(If you want my thoughts on the chapter, they are at the end)
Two people stood on a hill overlooking the seaside town of Foosha Village. The smaller was worn out from what looked to be training. The taller of the two, Dracule MIhawk, stood with his left hand holding his hat at his side, and his right hand on the shoulder of the kid next to him.
"It's about time I leave. If I wait to long, I'll miss who I'm looking for"
"Where are you going? You're looking for someone?" The kid asked, confused. This is the first time Mihawk mentioned looking for someone.
"I'm going to the city Loguetown. Fifteen years ago tomorrow, the former pirate king was executed there. The pirate 'Red Haired' Shanks will be there to pay respects to his former captain. I need to meet with him."
"He was on a crew with the pirate king, that's so cool." The child, Luffy, said. " Why are you looking for him?"
"I was tasked with capturing him"
"Oh. How do you know he will be there?" Luffy asked
"I've been friends with him for long enough to know he goes every year"
"If you're friends, why do you need to capture him?" Luffy puzzled with curiosity
"He is a pirate, so the world government hired me to."
"Aren't you a pirate too?" Luffy asked, confused.
"I am a pirate hired by the World Government to remove other pirates from the seas."
"Why would the Government want to get rid of pirates?"
"The World Government has set up a system where the people born into power have all of it, and everyone has to obey them. Pirates don't follow the laws, so the World Government views them as a potential threat. Pirates live free outside of the control of the Government, so they outlawed piracy as a result."
"If the government controls everything, why hasn't anyone tried to break free of them? No one likes to be controlled." Luffy wondered
"They have, but anyone who tries is put down."
"Why haven't you done anything to stop it?" Luffy wasn't trying to accuse Mihawk, he was just curious.
"I'd like to have the World Government as an ally rather than an enemy."
"Doing nothing to stop it, just makes the problem worse, doesn't it?" Luffy asked quizzically.
"Perhaps, but it's not my place to interfere"
"I'll do it then" Luffy said,
"You'll do what?"
"I'll break the control over the people, I'll let others live free. I'll become a pirate, a great one. A pirate who lives free, and helps others do the same."
"Be careful kid, The World Government is powerful. Don't rush into anything and get killed, train so that wont happen." Mihawk said serious
"I look forward to seeing you succeed" Mihawk's serious tone had faded, and his face was left with a smile

On the same hill as the one where he would train and talk with Mihawk, luffy was laying in the grass. A long while since has passed since Mihawk left. Luffy's plans to begin his journey were about to be put into action. He was debating on whether he should wait longer, though. He knew he should stop by town and say goodbye before he left. As long as He's wanted to go out to sea, he couldn't help but feel disheartened about leaving. What will he do after leaving. How should he go about forming a crew? Mihawk traveled solo, but he definitely didn't want to do that. Although, large numbers could be useful, he felt a smaller crew would be better. Quality over quantity in his mind. Before he could get a crew, he'd need a bigger ship. He had a small fishing boat, but he had big plans in mind. Taking some money from another pirate crew and using it to by a ship would be the easiest. 'I guess I might as well get going. Laying here thinking isn't gonna do anything'
Walking toward the small boat dock on the island, he saw the party bar. Turning toward the door of the bar, he walked forward. Upon opening the door, the scratch of the door on the wooden floors brought all the attention to him. He greeted the few customers he knew, and said hello to the even fewer he didn't. The bar didn't get busy until later in the days. The green haired bar worker was talking to the town mayor when he walked through the door.
"Luffy! How are you" She said, looking at the kid in the open door. "You have your sword with you? Are you planning on leaving today? I thought you wanted to wait, why the change of heart?"
Luffy looked down at his hip. He doesn't normally bring his sword with him, so it gave him away. Getting the surprise taken from him, he lightly deflated. He walked toward the pair and said hello.
"You ruined my surprise, Makino." Luffy said with a fake frown. "The weather is nice today, and the tides are calm. Its been seven years since Mihawk left, I think I've waited long enough."
"You still on about that swordsman? You hardly knew him, you know. I doubt he even remembers you." Makino said sternly.
"Makino, stop trying to dissuade him. You've said that same thing how many times, now?" The mayor sounded annoyed when speaking.
"He was the first person who heard my dream. It was talking to him that gave me my goals." This was Luffy's usual response to Makino. He didn't blame her, she just wanted to protect him, and he was thankful for it. "Plus, he taught me how to use a sword." Luffy added as an afterthought. Although it wasn't much, Mihawk did teach him the basics of swordsmanship, and Luffy would stay thankful for it.
"Luffy, I'm just worried about you. Good luck out there." Makino said, giving luffy a light hug before looking at him. He really has grown up since then. The lost and lonely kid had grown up, and now had a goal he was about to go fulfil.
Saying his, for now, final goodbyes, Luffy left the bar, and continued to the fishing dock. holding the boat with his left hand, he took the sheathed sword of his hip with his right hand and placed it in the boat. Slowly he got into the old fishing boat, moved the rows to the water, and rested his feet on the edge.
Speaking to no one in particular, Luffy looked up with a smile and muttered "Time to get going".
(The chapter this time was about 1100 words, compared to the 400-500 words of the first. As for my thoughts on the chapter, not much happened, but I feel it was a decent set up, and I like the idea of Luffy wanting freedom for others. During the dialogue half of the chapter, I tried to avoid the trap of using the word said 100 times. Nothing of much importance happened in the second half. I admit, I was just paralleling the start of Luffy's canon adventure. For how much Mihawk taught him, I'm thinking not much. Mihawk wouldn't teach a child anything advanced. Mihawk probably wouldn't teach a child anything, but oh well. I skipped the ASL part of the story because I dont think too much would change. For thoughts on Luffy as a character, I want to keep him close to canon, but I have some changes in mind which will become apparent later. He definity is not an idiot. I dont believe canon Luffy is either, just very exaggerated fun loving. Also no devil fruit Luffy, so that's cool.
Enough of my rambling.
If you find an issue I should change, dont be afraid to review and I'll fix it. Hope you enjoyed the first draft of my second chapter)
