Note: The manhunt continues and then there are four chapters left after this one. I hope that you guys are ready for the end. Chapter twelve, here we go!
Chapter 12: A Suspect Is Named
Ralph and Melissa approached Cyril, having determined looks on their faces. The husband-and-wife team even had two impromptu, but useful, weapons: a chainsaw and a baseball bat.
"Decided to join the manhunt, have we?" Cyril asked.
"That's right." Ralph smiled.
"And we're not leaving until the monster plaguing the Evergreen Forest is dead!" Melissa said.
"Nice bat, by the way!" Cyril said, "I'm not sure what you would do with the chainsaw, though!"
"I guess that I could hack the rapist to pieces when we see him." Ralph suggested.
"Good idea!" Cyril chuckled.
"But shouldn't we unmask him before we kill him?" George asked.
"We should interrogate the creep when we catch him as well." Melissa said.
Cedric and Captain Pepper came out of the ammunition shop with three bags full of supplies.
"What's going on?" Cedric asked.
"Change of plans, Cedric!" Cyril stated, "We've decided to capture the rapist and interrogate him before his execution! Now that Ralph and Melissa have joined, the manhunt will be easier!"
"Mr. Sneer," Captain Pepper spoke, "keep in mind that we do not have a suspect who has been proven to be the culprit. I even had my fellow officers interrogate everyone who they saw as suspicious, with none of them turning out to be the rapist."
"What about Milton Midas?" Ralph asked.
"Not even a man like him would commit a crime as heinous as rape!" Cyril stated.
"He's been interviewed and was proven to not be the culprit." Captain Pepper said, "A test on one of the victims showed that the culprit isn't even from the Evergreen Forest."
Everyone froze in their tracks.
"What?!" George screamed.
"I can't believe it!" Ralph stated.
"Well, where is he from?!" Cyril asked.
"The test said that our culprit might be a man from Rhode Island." Captain Pepper stated, "The man in question is right around the age of Ralph and Melissa."
"Oh boy," Melissa said, "I don't think that he would come to the Evergreen Forest!"
"Who is 'he'?" George asked.
"My old pen pal from high school, Arnold Layne." Ralph said.
"Why would he come to the Evergreen Forest?" Cedric asked.
"He always would tell me about the dreams he had about girls he knew." Ralph stated, "In fact, he would even describe what went on in those dreams, such as tying up girls before having sex with them. He even said that he would do it in real life if he could. I'm not sure why he would come to the Evergreen Forest."
"He could be acting out his fantasies as we speak!" Cyril said.
"But Arnold often told me that he was going under therapy and was even proven to be harmless." Ralph said.
"The person he was seeing must have been a quack!" The aardvark said, "That pen pal of yours could have made his way to the Evergreen Forest in order to prey on random women!"
"We need to find him before he strikes again!" Melissa cried.
"Let's move, everyone, we have to look for the mysterious Arnold Layne before he can attack another unwilling girl!" Captain Pepper said.
"Agreed!" George shouted.
"Let's go!" Cyril yelled.
The group then ran off, continuing their search for the rapist who was in the Evergreen Forest. Now that they had a suspect, Arnold Layne, the search would now be shorter. If only they knew the truth they were about to be shown.
Bert watched as Lisa fell asleep, looking peaceful as she did so. The older raccoon smiled, knowing that she was feeling okay, especially after all that had happened to her. The two were engaged, but they weren't going to get married for quite a while. However, they still hadn't decided what they were going to do with the child that was forced into Lisa. Bert liked children, but he didn't know what to say to Lisa. Even if she had the child, Lisa would have to either lie to the child about its birth or give it up for adoption.
As Lisa slept, Bert walked out of the room. He then went downstairs, where he saw an envelope that had his name written on it. Seeing that it was for him, the raccoon opened up the envelope and read the note that was inside:
Bert,
I never thought that I would write to you, seeing as I was Ralph's pen pal when we were in high school. However, he might be busy, so I'm sending this letter to you. Ralph will be happy to know that I've grown out of those disturbing fantasies I had when I was younger, and it's all thanks to the therapy I underwent. I am now married with three kids, and I live in Flint, Michigan. If you see Ralph, can you tell him that I'm doing fine and that he's lucky to have friends like you? If you can, that would be wonderful.
Thanks,
Arnold Layne
Bert put the letter back in the envelope and decided to go back up to Lisa. He was planning to tell Ralph about the letter he got from Arnold Laynewhen Ralph and Melissa finished the manhunt.
Ralph will be excited to know that Arnold's improved his life! Bert thought to himself, And Lisa will be excited to know that the man who raped her was caught! If I could tell them now, everything would go back to normal, although Lisa would still be pregnant! Ah well, we're engaged and we can decide on what to do with the baby after our honeymoon!
Note: Well, it looks like Arnold is not the culprit. I named him after the Pink Floyd song "Arnold Layne", so sorry to someone who has an OC of the same name. Hell, I probably shouldn't have included a twist in the same chapter where a suspect was name. However, a later chapter will reveal the true culprit. What do you guys think about this chapter? Let me know when you leave a review or give a constructive criticism. Until next time guys, peace!
