Hey guys! Sorry this chapter took so long to put up! I've been pretty busy with the college life! It takes up more of my time than I thought it would! Hope you all enjoy this chapter, regardless!
Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars, but I do own my OC('s).
Chapter 6: Hide and Seek
Serena closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, attempting to calm her nerves. She felt so useless with her broken leg, and once more attempted to move it. Even though she barely moved it, her leg throbbed with a sharp pain and she hissed before abandoning the attempt. She doubted Han, Chewie, or Leia would be pleased if they saw her aggravating the injury.
"Keep me in the loop." She muttered into her comm, hoping they were listening for her.
"Kinda busy here, sis." Han quipped back.
She glanced out the small window to see what was going on outside the Falcon. To her horror, she watched a Star Destroyer slowly approach the ship. Understanding why Han didn't want to be disturbed, she did not respond. As she continued to watch from her window, she felt her heart beating frantically once again. Wishing she could do something, but knowing that would not help anybody, she just watched the battle.
Han was in top form, dodging the TIE-fighters who were flying around the Falcon. Even though the Millennium Falcon was still damaged, he was a more impressive pilot than any of these Imperials, and Serena was grateful that he had those skills. Without him, they would have surely been captured.
Moments later, though, it seemed Han's skill wasn't enough. The TIE-fighters finally managed to hit the ship, and Serena was almost thrown off her cot during the blast. The Falcon rocked violently and veered slightly to the right. She heard Han's cursing from the cockpit.
Why aren't we going into light-speed? She thought, and bit her lip in nervousness. Han and Chewie must not have had time to repair the Falcon fully. They were in trouble.
"Someone tell me what's going on!" She practically screamed, her nerves finally getting the better of her.
"Your brother's insane! He's taking us through an asteroid field!" Leia remarked through the comm, sounding stressed.
Serena glanced at the window and her eyes widened when she saw that they were moving closer and closer to an asteroid field.
"What the hell are you trying to do?" She attempted to knock some sense into Han, "We'll never make it through there!"
"Just trust me, will ya?"
She closed her eyes, bracing herself for something, whether it be an Imperial tractor beam, or the feeling of an asteroid crushing the Falcon. She remained this way for a while, but hesitantly opened her eyes when she realized that nothing happened.
Glancing out the window for what seemed to be the hundredth time, she watched as the Falcon gracefully flew by the asteroids, both large and small. The course seemed very dangerous; she watched the asteroids slam into one another, causing smaller debris to break apart and make the course even more difficult to maneuver. She watched the TIE-fighters who daring pursued them explode as soon as they came in contact with the asteroid, and even though the Millennium Falcon was much bigger than those ships, Han managed to dodge every asteroid. She couldn't help but be extremely proud and grateful for her brother in that moment.
However, the longer they remained in the asteroid field, the less confident she felt. Especially when she saw Han moving closer to the largest asteroid in the area.
"Han…?" She questioned nervously.
"He seems to think it's a good idea for us to get closer to the big asteroid."
"Closer?"
"That's what I said."
However, it seemed Han's plan wasn't as ridiculous as they all thought. He skillfully managed to land the Falcon on the asteroid, and by doing so, he was able to protect the ship from further damage, and plan what to do next.
They all entered the room where they left Serena, glad to finally have a moment to breathe.
"You alright, sis?"
She nodded slowly, "Yeah, perfectly fine."
Chewie looked at her seriously, "Your leg doesn't look fine."
"I just need some bacta and I'll be as good as new. Do we have anything on here?"
Han shook his head, looking angry with himself, "I left it at the base. They said they were runnin' low on the stuff."
She frowned, and cursed her luck. Typically, this would happen to her when they were out of bacta or any other medical supplies.
Leia kneeled down, examining the leg, which was bruised and severely swollen, "It must have been the impact of the beam hitting your leg. It's probably just cracked. As soon as we get some bacta, it'll heal in no time."
"That's a relief." Serena sighed, "Where are we anyway?"
Before they could answer, Han realized something, "Damn. C'mon. I need to shut down the power systems. That'll ensure the Empire won't be able to find us."
Leia and Chewbacca immediately began shutting down the systems, ensuring that only the emergency power systems were left running, in case of necessity.
Shortly after they shut down the power systems, a loud rumble was heard, along with a quake that shook the entire ship. Serena closed her eyes, hoping they didn't find more trouble than they already had.
After the first quake, Threepio immediately felt the need to comment, "Sir, it's quite possible that this asteroid is not entirely stable."
Han wanted to strangle that damn droid, "Not entirely stable? I'm glad you're here to tell us these things." He muttered sarcastically, but sadly the sarcasm was lost to the droid. He instead chose to just get the droid away from him, too tired to deal with his comments, "Chewie, take the professor in the back and plug him into the hyperdrive."
Threepio seemed almost offended as Chewie started to lead him out, "Oh! Sometimes I just don't understand human behavior. After all, I'm only trying to do my job in the—"
Thankfully—mercifully, he was cut off by the sliding door. Han was only offered a brief moment of peace though, before the ship lurched once again. Han was mostly prepared and braced himself properly. Leia, however, was thrown from her spot right into his arms. Caught by surprise, Han tightly gripped her as he waited for the blast to stop.
When they both realized the position they were in, Leia struggled to break free of his grip, but Han preferred to keep her there and held her tightly. For such an intimidating woman, he never realized how small she was until she was this close to him.
She cut off his thoughts when she struggled once more and said, "Let go."
"Shh." He shushed her, not releasing her grip. Clearly, their proximity was affecting her, he figured he'd let her squirm a little.
"Let go, please."
He didn't notice her slight flush.
Still, Han, unable to help himself, ruined the moment as quickly as it started, "Don't get excited."
Leia's embarrassed flush turned into one of anger. She struggled more now, "Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited."
Han was slightly offended by the comment, but kept his snarky attitude in check, "Sorry, sweetheart," He said as he released her, "We haven't got time for anything else."
With that, he left the cockpit, leaving behind a flustered and confused Princess behind.
Serena stared at the ceiling, bored and wishing she knew what was going on. So far, no one had stopped by since the quakes. No doubt they were trying to find out what caused them, and attempting to get out of here in one piece.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a flustered looking Leia, who entered and immediately went on a tirade, "What kind of man does he think he is?! How dare he say that to me? Does he have any idea how shallow, self-centered, and—"
"Uh, who are you talking about?' Serena asked, though she only knew of one person who could get Leia so riled up.
"Your idiot brother of course. He's got some nerve, I'll give him that."
Curious, Serena asked, "What happened?"
This got Leia to stop talking. She flushed slightly, "Nothing significant. He's just so—"
"Dreamy?" Serena laughed, realizing what Leia was feeling.
That caused Leia to stop speaking and glare at Serena threateningly. She'd never seen Leia look so intimidating before. The former smuggler shrank back.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I don't even know why I came to you, anyway. You're just as bad." Leia then stormed out, leaving behind a very confused—and slightly intimidated—Serena.
Great idea, Leia. Go to his sister for advice. What were you thinking? Leia berated herself as she got to working on welding some of the valves on the ship in an attempt to get the Falcon repaired more quickly. She was getting tired of being stuck with that arrogant, no good—
She muttered angrily to herself as she struggled to remove a valve to no avail. She spotted Han out of the corner of her eye, but ignored him. That is, until he attempted to help her. When he got close enough she pushed him away harshly, causing him to back off.
"Hey, Your Worship, I'm only trying to help."
She calmed down significantly as she heard him speak. She didn't understand it, "Would you please stop calling me that?"
He smirked, "Sure, Leia."
She couldn't help but be irritated by his smirk and tone, "Oh, you make it so difficult sometimes."
"I do. I really do. You could be a little nicer, though." He stared at her intently, watching for a reaction. "Come on, admit it. Sometimes you think I'm alright."
Leia released the valve, rubbing her sore hand. She was tired of arguing with him, and adopted a more playful tone, "Occasionally…maybe. When you aren't acting like a scoundrel."
Han laughed, and Leia felt her heart skip a beat. He was rather handsome, now that she thought about it, "Scoundrel? Scoundrel? I like the sound of that."
While she was distracted by his handsome face, Han took the opportunity to take her hand and gently massage it. Her hands were soft, and small, and slightly dirty from the work she was doing.
Leia attempted to back off, feeling nervous and helpless, "Stop that."
"Stop what?"
She flushed, feeling conflicted, but kept attempting to get him to leave. She wasn't ready. She did not feel anything for this arrogant smuggler, "Stop that! My hands are dirty."
Han was not deterred easily, "My hands are dirty too." He couldn't resist baiting her a bit, "What are you afraid of?"
Leia couldn't resist responding to the question, "Afraid?"
Han looked her straight in the eyes, and she felt herself melt at the expression. He never looked so handsome, confident, or dashing before. Her heart began to pound, especially as he moved closer to her. She could feel herself trembling slightly due to his proximity.
"You're trembling." He said as he continued moving closer to her. Leia backed up, afraid of where this was going—where this would lead.
He continued, still drawing himself closer to her, "You like me because I'm a scoundrel. There aren't enough scoundrels in your life."
Leia found herself playing along, unable to resist drawing a little closer to the man she claimed to despise, knowing that everything she was saying was a lie, "I happen to like nice men."
Their mouths were nearly touching now. They were so close, she could feel his breath on her face.
"I'm a nice man." He insisted, moving in.
"No you're not," She said breathily, hardly able to breathe with him standing so close to her, "You're…"
It didn't matter what she had to say. Han finished his move, meeting his lips with hers. He kissed her slowly, longingly, as if he had all the time in the world. Leia eagerly responded, practically melting into him as she felt him gently wrapping his arms around her. She was never kissed like this before, and now that she has been, she never wanted to stop—
"Sir, sir! I've isolated the reverse power flux coupling!" Threepio shouted, entering unannounced.
Han released Leia from his grasp, and she caught her breath. Attempting to control her frantic heart, Leia quickly snuck away from Han, unwilling to speak with the smuggler after that moment.
Han finished arguing with Threepio, and turned back to Leia. However, after realizing that she left, he glared at Threepio as he marched out of the room, realizing that the golden droid spoiled the moment.
Through all of the events going on in the Falcon, Serena simply laid down and stared at the ceiling. She looked out the window once, but only saw darkness, and gave up. She was alone with her thoughts, and so she constantly thought about Luke.
She was worried about him, because even though she felt his presence and knew he was still alive, she wanted to see him and make sure he was safe. She didn't trust in her senses because she never had any training, despite a few short ones with Luke as he taught her the few things Ben taught him before the old man's untimely death.
The Falcon was oddly quiet. She hadn't heart a peep out of anyone, and that was strange considering Threepio was on board. She couldn't help but wonder if they left the ship to go explore the asteroid—to make sure everything was safe. It certainly didn't seem stable here, though she was grateful that the rumbling had stopped, at least for the moment.
Of course as soon as she thought about peace and quiet, she heard a blaster shot and felt the cavern suddenly shake once more. She slid and slammed into the wall next to her, groaning at the unexpected action. Suddenly, the peaceful quiet was interrupted as she heard shouts coming from Han, Leia, and Chewie. They were in a hurry to escape, and Serena didn't even attempt to question them. She felt the Falcon power up and move swiftly through the cave. It took them no time to escape, and as Serena glanced back from her window, she saw the reason the others were so eager to escape. The cave was not actually a cave at all. They had entered the stomach of a giant space slug. She only knew this due to the fact that it attempted to snap at them as they escaped. Feeling uneasy, Serena moved away from the window. Nothing was going right for the group today, and she doubted it was going to get much better as Han flew through the asteroid field once more.
Hi guys! So sorry this chapter took so long to come out, and sorry it's not as long as it should be! I really wanted to give you guys a chapter since I know it's been waaaay too long since I updated, so I figured at least this would be something! I promise the next chapter will be much more exciting, and I'll try not to take as long this time! Also, I apologize for the lack of Luke/Serena moments, but it didn't make sense to send her with him to Dagobah with Yoda. Plus, it'll get very angsty when we get to Bespin, and I love angst! :) Love you guys and thank you for reviewing and supporting this story! It means a lot!
