What's up guys? I hope you enjoy this chapter! Once again, I apologize for the delay. I'm transferring colleges and it's been quite a bit of work organizing all of that. Also, my roommate constantly talks to me when I'm trying to write, and I rarely get any writing done before I have to start school work or go to classes/work/clubs.
Also a random question: Do any of you play The Old Republic? If you do, let me know in your review, and I'll add you on my account, which is just ScarletSecrets, and my character's name is Vavianne, and she's an Imperial Agent. I wanted to name her Serena, but someone already claimed that name :(. Anyway, I just started, and I'm loving it! (if you don't know what it is, it's basically a MMORPG set ten thousand years before the movies. It's free to download and play, so if you're interested, there's no harm in trying it out! )
Anyway, on with the chapter! :)
Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars. Only George Lucas—err, DISNEY— has those rights now. I only own my OC('s).
Chapter 7: Bespin
Luke was stunned. Dagobah was not the planet he expected it to be. It was a swampy, dirty planet, with an ominous and foreboding feeling emanating from further off. He wasn't sure if he could sense the darkness due to his limited Jedi training, or if it was his own imagination. Either way, he didn't like it here, and he could see that Artoo wasn't that happy either.
The poor astromech droid had managed to fall in one of the swampier sections of the planet, but managed to escape before anything had the chance to eat him. Unfortunately, his X-Wing was not so lucky. As soon as he exited the ship, he heard gurgling and turned in horror to watch his precious ship sink into the mud.
Now, he and Artoo were trapped here, and needed to find some way off the planet. He was beginning to doubt Yoda's existence the longer her remained here. Why would a powerful Jedi master choose this planet? He supposed it was remote enough, but he doubted anything would be able to survive aside from the terrifying natives here.
He sighed, and pulled out his equipment box, thinking about his friends. He hadn't been able to say goodbye to them, since the base was attacked. He frowned, wondering if they escaped from the Empire. He truly hoped they had.
Serena. He hadn't even been able to tell her anything. Yet…somehow he sensed that she was safe, at least for the moment, and that thought allowed him to relax. He could even sense Leia a bit, again wondering at the strange connection between the two of them. Han and Chewie were also there, but much fainter than the two girls. He wondered why they were so faint. He cared about them, as well.
Attempting to forget about his friends, he moved towards Artoo and began cleaning out the droid, hoping to clean off some of the remaining mud from the droid's unfortunate encounter. He fiddled around with the droid, familiar with it now that he'd had Artoo for so long.
"Alright, ready for more power?" He asked the droid as he fiddled with Artoo's power core. Artoo rebooted as soon as he activated the new power core, "There you go."
Artoo whirred happily, seeming to be in much better condition. Luke returned to his previous position, grabbing a can of processed food and preparing to eat, once more noticing his thoughts drifted to the safety of his friends.
He distracted himself by talking to Artoo, "Now all I have to do if find this Yoda…if he even exists." Luke sighed, feeling frustrated. Glancing around, he noticed how foreboding the forest was at the moment, and shivered slightly, "Still, there's something familiar about this place. I don't know…I feel like…"
"Feel like what?"
Luke jumped back quickly, startled by this new voice. He heard Artoo screech in terror. The Commander didn't hesitate in reaching for his blaster, determined to protect himself should this new creature prove to be a threat. He turned to face the potential threat, and was thrown off by the sight before him. This creature did not appear threatening in the least. It was small, only about two feet, and greenish. Luke thought it looked a bit like an imp, with its long ears, and small demeanor. He could tell that the creature was very old, by the wrinkles on its small face.
Still, he finally responded to the creature's question, "Like we're being watched."
As he waited for the creature's response, he had a sudden feeling that his trip here just got a lot more interesting.
Serena could hear Han's swearing from the cockpit as he saw the Imperial Star Destroyer. Wondering how they could have found the ship even after Han attempted to lose them through the asteroid field, Serena attempted to get up off her cot and find some way to help the others. She felt so useless, and seeing the Star Destroyer forced her into action. She leaned against the wall heavily, attempting to keep the pressure off of her leg, and hobbled forward.
A laser blast rocked the ship, she gripped the wall tightly, attempting to keep her leg up. However, she wasn't able to completely resist the blast, and she was forced to drop her leg down. As soon as she did so, she felt the pain flare up again, and winced. Clenching her teeth, she resumed leaning on the wall, slowly but steadily making her way to Han and the others.
Threepio saw her enter the main room, and rushed over to her, "Mistress Serena, are you alright?"
Still gritting her teeth, she nodded, "I'm fine, Threepio. Help me."
The golden droid seemed confused, "How? I was not designed for medical assistance, I'm afraid—"
"Not with that," She interrupted, as she grabbed the droid, using him to support her weight, "Just help me get to the cockpit."
Threepio gasped, "Oh, I do not believe that is a good idea. Master Han will—"
"Don't worry about him. Just help me get there."
He reluctantly allowed her to lean on him and escorted her to the cockpit. Though he was chattering away, she barely heard what he was saying. Instead, she focused on just staying steady on her feet. She was relatively successful in keeping her foot elevated with Threepio's help, though he wasn't exactly the most stable support.
Finally, they entered the cockpit, and she leaned against the wall. Han noticed her immediately, and didn't seem happy about her presence, "What are you doing here? Go back and lay on the cot."
"I can't just sit around and do nothing."
"You can if you're too injured to do anything else." Leia responded, helping Serena support herself as another blast rocked the Falcon.
"Let's get outta here." Han shouted, knowing arguing would be a pointless waste of time. He prepared light speed, and pressed the button, prepared to leave the Imperials in the dust.
But nothing happened.
"It's not fair!" He almost whined, and looked at Chewie for an answer.
Chewbacca growled, letting Han know not to dare blame the wookiee for the issue.
It would have been amusing if not for the fact that they were about to be captured by the Empire. Leia sighed, "No light speed?"
Han defended himself, "It's not my fault!"
"Sir, we just lost the main rear deflector shield," Threepio announced, "One more direct hit on the back quarter and we're done for!"
"That's reassuring!" Serena mumbled, as she struggled to remain on her feet. Leia was having difficulty holding up the wounded girl, and also keeping herself upright.
Han paused a moment, clearly debating something. After only a brief pause, he made his decision, "Get Serena to her seat. I'm turnin' her around."
Chewie growled, clearly questioning Han's orders.
"I said turn her around! I'm going to put all power on the front shield!"
"You're going to attack them?!" Leia shouted, clearly doubting Han's ability to survive a direct attack. He was a good pilot, but he wasn't that good.
"Just get my sister in her seat. This is gonna be interesting." Han once again ordered, clearly unwilling to listen to the other's protests.
"You're insane!" Leia shouted, hoping to dissuade Han from his current suicidal course. However, it seemed to have no effect on the smuggler, as he seemed content to ignore her, "Come on, Serena. Your brother's going to get us all killed!" She grumbled, as she helped Serena limp over to a passenger seat.
Just as Serena had down, they felt the Falcon swerve sharply to the right, and Leia nearly lost her footing. Serena tightly gripped her seat, digging her nails into the fabric. She heard Chewie roar something along the lines of, "This will never work"
Leia remained silent, looking as if she was already accepting defeat. However, the longer they waited, they realized that everything had going quiet. Almost too quiet.
Then, they heard the unmistakable voice of Threepio, who was clearly unhappy with their situation, "Captain Solo, this time you have gone too far."
She could barely hear, but it sounded as if Chewie told the golden droid to shut up.
"No, I will not be quiet, Chewbacca. Why doesn't anyone listen to me?"
Even through Threepio drew attention to the fact that no one listened to him, it seemed Han and Chewie still didn't care. They simply walked away from the droid to check on Serena and Leia.
As Han walked towards them, he spoke to Chewie, "The fleet is beginning to break up. Go to the back and stand by the manual release for the landing claw.
Chewie barked in acknowledgement and turned away from Han, walking through another corridor to the back of the Falcon.
Even though Han and Chewie attempted to get away from Threepio, it seemed the golden droid was not content being dismissed, and he followed them out of the cabin, "I really don't see how that's going to help. Surrender is a perfectly acceptable alternative in extreme circumstances. This Empire may be gracious enough—"
Leia stormed over to the droid, and cut him off mid-sentence by shutting him down for the time being.
Serena and Han both relaxed significantly now that Threepio was silent and muttered "Thank you" simultaneously.
"So, what's the plan?" Serena asked, curious to know why they weren't currently being interrogated by the Empire.
"I parked the Falcon on one of their Star Destroyers. We're gonna hide here for a little while."
"And how do you plan on getting us away from the Imperials, undetected?" Leia questioned, wondering if Han actually thought this through.
"Well, if they follow Imperial procedure, they'll dump their garbage before they go to light-speed…then we just float away."
"With the rest of the garbage. Then what?"
"Then we've got to find a safe port somewhere around here. Got any ideas?"
"No. Where are we?" Leia questioned.
Han moved towards the display in the center of the room and brought up the galaxy map. The Falcon's current position blinked, allowing them to know where they were currently located.
"Looks like we're in the Anoat system."
Serena shook her head. They'd only been here once before. There wasn't much around them, except—
"Well, wait. This is interesting. Lando."
Serena frowned at the thought. She remembered Lando Calrissian. They'd met once a while back before Han had the Falcon. Suffice it to say, Lando was the previous owner of the ship, and Han managed to take it from him after he'd convinced the man to gamble it away in a card game.
Lando had always been a little too charming for her tastes. He was certainly handsome, she supposed, but he made her a bit uncomfortable with his forwardness. She wasn't looking forward to seeing him again, though she supposed if he was their only option, it was necessary.
"Lando system?" Leia said doubtfully, clearly questioning the existence of such a place.
"Lando's not a system, he's a man. Lando Calrissian. He's a card player, gambler, scoundrel. You'd like him."
Serena looked at Han and Leia suspiciously, knowing something was going on between them. They were acting differently around one another, and Leia didn't seem as irritated by Han's latest remark. In fact, she looked a little thrown off her guard.
"Thanks." Leia rolled her eyes, looking more amused than anything.
Han turned back to look at the map once again, "Bespin. It's pretty far, but I think we can make it."
Leia looked at the planet, reading some of the information the map showed about system, "It's a mining colony?"
Han nodded, remembering what Lando told him about it after he'd swindled the previous owner to obtain the system, "Yeah, it's a Tibanna gas mine. Lando conned somebody out of it. We go back a long way, Lando and me."
"Yeah, I don't know if he'd want to see you, though, Han." Serena interrupted.
Han smirked slightly, "He's probably over it."
Leia looked at him suspiciously, "Are you sure we can trust him?"
Han shook his head instantly, no doubt in his mind, "No, but he has no love for the Empire, I can tell you that."
Serena also nodded, remembering how agitated the usually calm gambler got when somebody mentioned the Empire, "I guess it's our only choice. I say we go for it. Maybe he'll have some bacta I can use on my leg."
"That's what I'm hopin' for, sis. What do you say, Princess?" Han looked at Leia, hoping she'd see the logic in such a plan.
Leia smiled, leaning over to Han, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. While he looked stunned, she commented, "You do have your moments. Not many, but you do have them."
With that, she walked away.
Serena's jaw almost dropped when she watched Leia kiss her brother. Before they'd gotten on the ship, they'd been furious with one another, but not it seemed they'd gotten much, much closer.
I break my leg and apparently I miss everything. She mused, before smirking at her brother, "What was that you said about not liking her…?"
He snapped out of his happy daze and looked at his sister, rolled his eyes, and walked to the cockpit, clearly not knowing how to respond.
He must really like her, if he can't think of anything to say. She smiled, happy her brother finally found someone who would be good for him. They really were great for one another, when they weren't fighting all the time. Hopefully, this newfound fondness they both felt for one another would last. Leia was the first of Han's girlfriends that she actually approved of.
Still, seeing Han and Leia grow closer made her think of Luke. She missed him terribly, and worried about him. Who knew what happened? He could have been captured, or killed. Hopefully, when they got to Bespin, she'd be able to contact him and see that everything was alright. Somehow, though, she knew that maybe Luke wouldn't be as 'alright' as she thought. She bit her lip, wondering where that thought came from. Clearly, she was just exhausted, and worrying needlessly.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard a roar, "Hello."
Hating herself for starting to brood once again, she smiled as she saw Chewbacca enter the room, "Hey, Chewie."
He looked at her suspicously, "Is something wrong?"
The wookiee always seemed to know when something was bothering her.
"It's Luke. I can't stop thinking about him. I'm worried."
"He's a fighter. He will be fine."
"I know he's tough, but I can't help but worry about him."
"When we return to the Rebels, you will see what I mean. He will be alive, and you will have no reason to worry."
Somehow, Chewbacca always knew what to say to make her feel better, "Thanks, Chewie."
They both sat in silence, then, as they heard Han shout that they were finally able to get moving.
The flight was unexciting. She and Chewie just kept one another company, and she was glad for the time to bond with the wookiee. She hadn't seen much of him at the Rebel base, and she missed him. He'd been a part of her life for so long he was practically family. While Han was away, he'd attempt to teach her the basics of flying or repairing ships, but she never could grasp the concept. She still couldn't, to this day. Chewie had been a constant presence in her life ever since that fateful day Han rescued him from slavery. She could barely remember what life was like before the wookiee appeared.
Her thoughts about Chewbacca were cut short when a blast shook the Falcon. Instantly, Chewbacca was on his feet, and ran to the cockpit to help Han. Serena bit her lip, hoping that the Imperials hadn't followed them to Bespin.
Leia ran in the room, looking confused, "What's going on?"
"I don't know. Chewie just ran in the cockpit to find out." Serena responded, feeling useless once again as she looked at her useless leg.
Leia entered the cockpit, and Serena heard them shouting something, though she couldn't make out exactly what it was. Eventually, things calmed down and she felt the Falcon land.
Han and Leia, closely followed by Chewbacca and Threepio, exited the cockpit, and Serena immediately questioned them, "What's going on?"
"We just landed on Bespin, and I think Lando's coming out to meet us." Han said, looking a bit nervous.
Serena frowned at the look on his face, but didn't have the chance to say much since Han headed toward the exit of the Falcon, and with Leia following closely behind.
"Wait for me!" Threepio called out, and moved as quickly as he could behind them.
"Chewie, could you help me?" She asked, hoping to catch the wookiee before he left too.
Chewie nodded, and easily helped her stand up. He offered to carry her.
"No thanks, Chewie. Just let me lean on you."
The wookiee barely seemed to notice Serena's weight as she leaned against him for support. He helped her limp down the loading ramp, to where Han, Leia, and Threepio were watching Lando approach. He looked exactly as she remembered him, with his dark complexion and charmingly handsome face. His black hair was still cut short, and his mustache was neatly trimmed.
He was leading a group of his guards quickly toward where Han landed. He didn't look very pleased to see them.
Han moved back to Chewie and Serena, while putting up a brave front, "See. There's my friend." He said to Leia, though after he reassured the Princess, he turned to his sister and best friend, and muttered so only they could hear, "Keep your eyes open, okay?"
Chewie growled in agreement, and Serena felt for her blaster. Happy to see it was still at her side, she kept her hand on it, alert for any sign of trouble from their old 'friend'.
Han moved forward as Lando moved closer.
"Why you slimy, double-crossing, no-good swindler!" Lando shouted, and Serena gripped her blaster tighter, waiting for a sign from her brother, "You've got a lot of guts coming here after what you pulled!"
Han didn't seem to know what to do, and attempted to appear as innocent as possible, which was quite a feat for him. Lando moved forward threateningly, and Serena was about ready to shoot, when he suddenly immediately changed his attitude and instead hugged Han. Her brother didn't seem to know how to handle the situation, and just awkwardly laughed, patting Lando's back.
Lando was laughing now, and Serena relaxed her guard. She was relieved that he didn't seem to be holding a grudge towards them. Chewie also relaxed, but still watched Lando carefully.
"How you doing, you old pirate? So good to see you! I never thought I'd catch up with you again. Where you been?"
Han laughed, and responded. She wasn't paying much attention, instead listening to Threepio comment, "Well, he seems very friendly."
Leia looked suspicious, and Serena knew when Leia was suspicious, it was usually for a good cause, "Yes…very friendly."
"He's always been this way." Serena mumbled back, "We just need to stay here for a few days, then we can get outta here."
"I sure hope so." Leia responded, still watching Lando out of the corner of her eye.
After the two old friends caught up a bit, Lando asked, "What are you doing here?"
Han gestured toward the Falcon, wincing a bit when he saw the damage to his precious ship, "Repairs. I thought you could help me out."
Lando seemed a bit upset to see how Han was taking care of his ship, "What have you done to my ship?"
Han immediately got defensive, as he sometimes did when someone mentioned his ship, "Your ship? Hey, remember, you lost her to me fair and square."
As his attention turned to the ship, Lando spotted the others, he turned to see Chewie, "How you doing, Chewie? Good to see you!"
The wookiee returned a hesitant greeting, "Hello."
Lando moved forward when he spotted Serena, "Serena, you're looking lovely." He grabbed her hand and kissed it, "How are you?" He asked, while smiling charmingly at her.
She pulled her hand away, looking a bit uncomfortable, but trying to hide it, "Great, Lando. Nice to see you again."
"Indeed. How long has it been?" He asked, then noticed she was leaning on the wookiee for support, "What happened?"
"There was an…accident. I broke my leg. Do you have any bacta I could use?"
"I can do better than that. We've got to fully functional and equipped medical center. I'll take you there in a minute."
"I appreciate it." She smiled, glad to finally get her leg fixed.
He continued smiling at her for a moment, before noticing the beautiful Princess Leia standing next to Serena. Instantly, his attention was focused Leia, and he walked away from Serena
Serena rolled her eyes. He's still a ladies man.
"Hello. What have we here? Welcome. I'm Lando Calrissian. I'm the administrator of this facility, and who might you be?" He clearly was attempting to impress her.
"Leia." She responded hesitantly, backing away as Lando had gotten a little too close for comfort.
"Welcome, Leia." He smiled, and bowed to her, grabbing her hand and kissing it.
"All right, all right, you old smoothie." Han got defensive as he quickly grabbed Leia and pulled her away from Lando.
Serena couldn't help but grin at Han's obvious jealousy. She'd never seen him get like this over a woman before. She thought it was adorable.
Lando responded, but Serena stopped listening. She was just relieved they had managed to escape the Empire, and were safe on Cloud City...at least for the moment.
I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. The next one's going to be awesome, I promise! I'm soooo excited for that part! Thanks for reading!
Also, just as a question, is there anything specific you guys would want me to include later on in the story? I'm definitely open to suggestions, so if you leave a review, why not let me know what you want to see in the future chapters of the story!
Thanks again for reading! I really appreciate it!
