SUMMARY: Takami Keigo was told to discard his name when he joined HPSC's Hero Program. He'd never thought he'd want to be a hero before because of his condition but ever since he was saved by Endeavor, and saw the hero shine brightly, he wants to be just like him.

The hero who shines.

This story follows his journey to be one of Japan's top heroes and his dream to be a hero as bright as Endeavor. He meets a lot of people and made several allies and enemies. Will his dream to chase the sun be his downfall or will he be one of the stars in the sky?

A/N: A side story of my main fic "To be a Hero" where it will be Hawks-centric. The story will eventually converge with my main one.

PROLOGUE

The little boy tried to catch up with the men in black suits as they led him down the hallway of the building. He clutched onto the Endeavor plushie tight against his chest. He looked ahead in both apprehension and determination. They brought him here because they told him he had great potential. They told him that he can be a great hero, like Endeavor if he wanted to. This might be his only chance!

One of the two men escorting him slowed down to match his pace. He was probably in his fifties because he kind of looked like his grandfather, and he had greying dark hair and green eyes, the man smiled at him kindly, "Are you nervous?"

The boy pressed his face against the top of his Endeavor plushie as he nodded, "A little."

The man put a reassuring hand on his back, "Don't worry, Keigo-kun, I'll be in the room with you."

Keigo smiled shyly, "Thank you, Ishikawa-san."

"This first meeting is just a brief introduction. We'll get started on your training once arrangements are decided and approved. And then you'll be on your path to being a hero! Are you excited?"

Keigo nodded and looked at his plush toy with a smile, "Yes!"

They reached a room labelled 'Conference Room 1'. The other man opened the door and Keigo followed Ishikawa into the room. There were two men in similar black suits sitting behind a table. They stared at the boy with scrutinizing eyes. Keigo was led to stand in front of the table, facing them. He turned his head when Ishikawa took a step back to stand slightly behind him.

The two men behind the table stood up and approached him, one of them spoke, "Can you please introduce yourself to us?"

Keigo clutched onto his Endeavor plush tightly, "M-My name's Takami Keigo."

"Do you know why you're here, Keigo-kun?" asked the other man.

Keigo met his eyes, "I was told that I have potential. That I can be a great hero because of my quirk."

"And what is your quirk?"

The boy spread his wings to show them, "My dad called it Fierce Wings."

"Can you show us what you can you do with it?"

Keigo flapped his wings and floated a meter above the floor, "I can fly, and I can do this," he said as he sent some of his scarlet feathers flying around the room. He bit his bottom lip slightly as he concentrated on commanding his feathers to do as he imagined, "Dad says I should be able to control each and individual feathers if I have enough training. I haven't been able to train much with them but I think I can listen to people talking with my feathers."

"Fascinating. And what do you mean by that last part?"

The red feathers returned to his wings swiftly, "I can feel vibrations with my feathers. And since they're uhm, kinda connected to me tele-telepathically? I can understand the vibrations. It's like they turn into sound or words in my head."

The two men nodded, looking pleased, "That is a special quirk indeed."

Keigo smiled shyly and lowered his gaze to the floor. He turned his head slightly to have a glimpse at Ishikawa behind him. The man gave him a reassuring smile and a nod. His attention returned to the men in front of him when one of them cleared his throat.

"Listen closely, Keigo-kun. As of today, you have to say goodbye to your name."

Keigo's eyes widened slightly and he nodded his understanding.

"You're about to enter a special program to become a very special hero, okay? The training will be rough… Think you can handle it?"

Keigo stared at them and thought about why he decided to come here, far away from home. His family were reluctant to let him go but when he heard about the possibility of him being a hero, of being in the same league as the hero he admired, he had insisted he wanted this. They agreed to his decision when they saw the determination in his eyes.

Keigo nodded his head and raised the Endeavor plush in his hand to show them, "Can I be like him? Can I be a hero who beats the bad guys?" he lowered his gaze to stare at the plush toy fondly. He smiled slightly, "Just like how I was saved. Can I be a shining light for everyone?"

The men smiled at him, and he looked up to meet Ishikawa's eyes as the man stepped forward to put a hand on his back, "Yes, you can my boy. If you work really hard, you can be a hero like Endeavor."

Keigo grinned, "Then, show me how to be a hero."

A/N: I chose the name "Icarus" for this story because well, I have this image that Hawks is like Icarus (do read the story of Icarus in Greek Mythology if you don't know who Icarus is). He's flying high to become closer to the sun (Endeavor), willing to face danger but the end may be different for our favourite winged hero. However, there will be consequences to his decisions in his dream to shine as bright as Endeavor.
