Title: I'll get even

Chapter 17 : I'm leaving

The streets were lit and decorated with string lights and fun colorful decorations were hung up as well. The main street was filled with delicious food booths and games where you could win little prizes and all kinds of cool stuff. A group of villagers were singing and playing on Tubas, Trompetes, Accordions, Horns and large drums. Lots of people danced in the big village square with a beer stein in their hands.

Rinka looked around the big cheerful town with a wide grin as she enjoyed the music, the pretty decorations and the smell of the tasty food coming from the stands. She could see everything from multiple pretzel booths and the many different types of sweets she hadn't eaten since forever.

"Everyone looks so happy and alive," she noted as she glanced at the dancing crowd.

The men looked at each other and smiled.

"Oh yeah, let the fun begin!" Shachi exclaimed, as both him and Penguin took her under each arm and into the cheerful crowd. Rinka was a bit taken by surprise, but let herself be taken away by the 2 goofballs and into the swirling and chatting people and the bright lights as well.

She could see there were a whole lot of other Heart Pirates having fun at the festival already. Some of them were already flat out drunk, while others tried their luck with the ladies, and some were engorged themselves next to the long tables of food or playing and winning festival games.

Meanwhile, Rinka was eating on a mountain of ice cream in her small cone with a bit of whip cream on top while watching Shachi and Penguin trying to hook up with 2 girls. After Shachi got kicked where the sun doesn't shine and Penguin got a drink splashed in his face, that's when Lucas swooped in and stole the 2 babes from the 2 mechanics. Rinka couldn't help but to laugh at the now soaked Penguin and the injured Shachi after that little scene went down.

Rinka scanned around the huge crowd of people and saw Law sitting on a nearby stool with a glass of beer in his right hand. She was happy to see even the workaholic captain can still enjoy himself once in a while.

Lost in her own thoughts for a sec, she didn't even notice she was being picked up by a tipsy Shachi and Penguin all of a sudden. "Hey.. Rinka, I saw a cool contest you might like." She stared at him interestingly when he mentioned the word contest. Ignoring his slightly pinkish face colored because of the alcohol, she gladly let him lead the way.

The 3 find themselves in front of a large stall that has a sign that says " keg tossing contest." The contest was pretty simple, whoever throws their keg the farthest is the winner. While she was standing in line waiting for her turn, a group of buff-looking guys started taunting the girl. "Hey miss, last time I checked this is a test of strength, not a freakin tea party." One man said and all of his friends laughed at his comment. "What is a fine piece of meat like yourself even doing here?"Another man commented. But Rinka just rolled her eyes from all of the pig-headed men that surrounded her, knowing they won't be laughing anymore after she shows what a female warrior can do.

Meanwhile Shachi and Penguin were standing behind the wooden fence that surrounded the keg tossing booth. "Hey! Check it out, a woman is actually competing." A bearded man loudly stated to one of his friends. "I bet she can't even lift the damn thing." His friend laughed out while taking a large gulp of his beer.

Penguin and Shachi, the gambling duo, instantly made a betting pool out of it.

"Everyone place your bets on who's gonna win." Penguin shouted.

"Yeah, because we each bet 100,000 beri on the only woman who is competing in the contest ."Shachi added. Then all of a sudden people from left and right came to the duo and placed their bets, or rather simply gave their money to them.

When it was finally Rinka's turn she grabbed the heaviest-looking kag then with one hand she threw the huge thing with all of her strength. She might have gone a little overboard because the keg went flying up into the starry sky and never to be seen again.

"Oops… my bad," she said with a cheeky grin.

At that moment both mechanics easily took money from the betting locals who didn't know the woman's monstrous strength.

"H-h-how is that even possible, that was an 18 tons keg that was only meant for decoration and she easily threw it up into the sky with just one hand." A man who worked at the booth loudly exclaimed with shaken knees.

After teaching the men a lesson for underestimating her , she quickly headed to where a big group of people were dancing and cheering or overall just having fun . Rinka was dancing with one guy after another since it was a type of dance where you switch partners at every ring of the bell. But this time Rinka's dance partner wasn't just some random tipsy guy who had a little too much to drink. The hand on top of hers had a darker tan than hers, showing some contrast in their skin tones, and was of course the word DEATH there, spelled by the tattooed letters on each of the fingers. And not to her surprise she saw it was her smirking captain that also had his other hand onto her waist. "Well, well it looks like even the Surgeon of Death can also be good at dancing as well ." Rinka exclaimed with a smirk.

"What can I say there's lots of stuff you don't know about me?" He responded with a grin rather than his classic smirk.

Rinka's eyes narrowed warningly. "Don't you think you're a tinnnny bit too close?" Her voice was full of sarcasm since it was pretty obvious Law was getting a little too touchy , making the girl a tab bit too uncomfortable . And it's not like when he would get close to her and mocked her when they were all alone which has been happening too much lately. He was doing it in public like he was claiming her as his own, not by captain and subordinate but something a lot more deeper than that. She hoped the crew wasn't anywhere near to see this..especially not any of her closer friends, or else she faced their wrath of non stop teasing.

Rinka tried to mask the upcoming blush that was about to show on her cheeks.

She let out a sigh of relief when she heard the ringing of the bell which meant it was time to switch partners. However Law didn't really feel the same way, but still went with the flow and started dancing with a blushing blond girl that had on a revealing Dirndl dress which showed off her very large cleavage.

Knowing Law was distracted she quickly disappeared from where all the people were gathered and started following this strange presence that has been bothering her ever since day one of this excavation. The shadowy figure stopped in a dark alley where no one could see the two.

"Oh we meet again, wouldn't you say old friend-ya." The man said after taking off his cloak.

"Don't you even call me that. We stopped being friends after you betrayed and watched everyone die who considers you as family, right Malachite! You deserve to suffer and die just like you made everyone else did! And by the way, couldn't you mask your presence a little better since it was so easy for me to find you?! " She shouted in pure rage.

Malachite began to laugh like he lost all of his sanity. "Sorry to disappoint you but I didn't betray anyone. I'm not supposed to tell you this but since you are going to die soon anyway why not.

I have always been in the Beast Pirates, in fact I am one of Kaido's most favorite crew members; he even promoted me after I accomplished my 5 years undercover work to gather intel about the weaknesses of Vernal kingdom for him. I played you and everyone in Vernal kingdom as dumb fools. And spending those 5 years with you, I know you are wanting to fight and even take my head. Even knowing that is pretty much suicide and in some kind of miracle if you managed to actually defeat me. I'm pretty sure Kaido wouldn't like it if one of his loyalist crew members was killed by a rivaling pirate crew."

"But why did you reveal yourself now, I knew you were stalking me ever since I sat down at that old bar with my crewmates?" She exclaimed with gritted teeth.

He began to laugh even more like a mad man. "You still don't get it...Fine let me just spelled it out for you. You are nothing more than a toy to me, but you became less of a fun toy lately . But if you're really serious about fighting me. Then I'll be waiting on the biggest tree in the forest exactly on the same day when you guys' log pose is supposed to be set . If you decide not to come to our meeting place, that is fine by me, I don't care either way."

With a blink in an eye he was gone without a single trace. Rinka clenched her fists in anger ,knowing this was going to be the toughest decision she had to make in her entire life.

Coming out from the dark alley she saw her goofy and drunken crewmates, which brought a smile to her face once again . "Hey, Rinka , hick guess who won the title of the heaviest drinker ." Thorn proudly exclaimed with a cheeky grin.

Before she could think more about what Malachite had offered, she was once again pulled by Shachi and Penguin to look around at the festival more. And after seeing more stands, taste testing different types of beers. Rinka found herself in front of a stall where you shoot a pellet gun to win the prizes on the wall by knocking them down. While the worker was reloading the gun for Rinka, a certain smirking captain also asked for a gun as well. "Let's find out who is the best markman." Law jokily said with a smirk. Rinka responded by rolling her eyes. "Yeah, like I'm going to lose to you." Then one pellet after another Rinka and Law completely clear off the shelf by winning the many prizes, not wanting to be out shine from each other.

"huh...you're not as bad as I thought."Rinka admitted with a smirk.

Law ignored her comment, but hisamused stare never faltered. There was also something else in his eyes that he couldn't really decipher.

After the 2 almost completely cleared off the shelf by knocking down the boxes with their guns, they both came to a stop when there was only one box standing right in the middle of the display. In perfect timing both pellets from their guns shoot down the box with ease. The booth owner started dripping sweat from his forehead since the 2 pirates completely cleared off his prize shelf. "Haha..ha..You and your boyfriend are quite good snipers." The man said with a sweat-drop to Rinka.

Rinka snickered. "Yeah, like I ever considered this bastard to be my boyfriend."

The worker smiled with a light tint of red on his pale face ." Oh, so what you are saying is that you're single."

In a split second Law grabbed Rinka by her arm then brought her body close to his.

"Sorry but she belongs to me."Law declared with a smirk.

Rinka blushed from either the way he claimed her as his own or the way his warm breath that came from that statement tickled the back of her neck, indicating the person was very close to her, and also had his other hand that rested on her hip as well.

Rinka just did nothing, instead she just stood there still frozen in shock, not knowing what to do next. Yes ,Law had done multiple things like this in the past but only in a teasing way. But somehow she liked it, she doesn't feel uncomfortable or anything like that. By the way Law is touching her, it somehow felt right. Collecting her thoughts she gently pushed away Law back a few inches and turned her head with a smirk. "Well Law, it seems you forgot that I belong to no one," she said teasingly.

Law didn't answer though, only smirked in return. Rinka noticed his lack of response. He was always closed up and private, a guy that she will never understand and yet that's the reason why she wants to learn more about him.

The man at the stall gave Rinka and Law the prizes that they won and she thanked him with a smile. Then run back to Law and show him the big bag of prizes she won with a big proud grin of an innocent child, which he returned with a smirk.

Suddenly a familiar tune filled the air and Rinka's ears hefted up. "I love this song. I used to listen to it a lot in my childhood. " She turned towards the cheerful group at the big village square that was filled with drunken but also happy dancing people. Then she turned back to her captain and gave him her big bag of prizes before he could even protest. "Be a doll and hold this." Before he could retort or even complain about her ordering him around, Rinka ran off into the crowd, letting her braided hair down in the process.

The music started steady, then got faster with each beat of the note and Rinka twirl and move with the melody remembering every single move of the dance that she was taught at a young age. The people around her moved the exact same way, clapping their hands at the right time when the song played a certain part. She saw Shachi and Penguin laying on the side, still a little bum out for not scoring with the ladies. She ran up to them and before they could complain, pulled them up from their sorry asses and into the square among the cheerful people.

While she was dancing, Rinka saw Zane standing next to Law and that's when she lunged toward the 2.

"You're coming with me," she demanded happily to Zane, which made him blush a bit.

She pushed Zane into the circle and grabbed under his arm as they swirled together. Then they change partners and she spins around with Penguin and the cycle keeps on going.

She saw Thorn as well, but was completely passed out by the amount of alcohol he consumed in his small body. As she was chuckling at the sight, her eyes made contact with her smirking captain, who was sitting down on a bench while drinking some beer.

Law watched his female swordsman dance with a smile on her face. But that smile somehow felt off, Law being the observant man he is, knew there was something bothering the girl, and she only masked her true emotions with a warm but also fake smile. Since he couldn't exactly put his finger on why she would do it. He came to the conclusion that his mind is just playing tricks on him and he decided to ignore all those negative thoughts and doubts he had but only for tonight.

Law not wanting to be left out of all of the fun, slowly made his way to the circle.

Suddenly she saw a hand in front of her and saw Law reaching out and asking for her to join him, his hand outstretched for her to take it. He had his classic smirk on his face. For a while Rinka just blinked in slight bewilderment, but then smirked back and took his hand slowly as they disappeared in the crowd to enjoy the festival together.

No matter how tired and exhausted she was, these terrible thoughts almost kept her up all night.

"What should I do? How am I going to tell Law that I'm leaving his crew. Can I really do it? Can I really just betray him and everyone else in the Heart Pirates who gave me a home and treated me like family. "

Rinka was in conflict with herself; arguing and thinking of arguments for both sides. " It is the only way, it can't be helped. It is the only way to protect them, they shouldn't be involved with your problems and besides they can always get new and even better swordsmen. " She began biting her bottom lip in anger. "He must pay...I'm coming for you Malachite!"Rinka softly mumbled to herself before drifting off to a deep slumber.

Rinka finished showering and getting dressed, and went to the galley for breakfast. She quietly ate her breakfast trying not to make any type of eye contact with her soon-to-be ex crewmates.

"Hey Rinka, have you seen a ghost or something? You've not acted like yourself lately, "Penguin exclaimed with a hint of concern in his voice.

She put on a fake smile. "Nah, I guess I had a little too much to drink last night." She insisted with a light chuckle. "Are you sure, you seem kinda off." Shachi added. "Yeah, I'm perfectly fine," she claimed, even managing to smile at him to ensure he has nothing to worry about. Throughout most of the day Rinka avoided all of her crewmates just like if they had the plague. While watering her plants for the last time, a few tears managed to escape from her eyelids But still kept a brave face, not for her but for her crewmates, her friends, and her nakama. For Rinka's final gift to her captain she wrote down all of the directions or any type of important information for each medicinal plant in her greenhouse. Because taking care of medicinal plants is a lot more complex than one might think.

Every page she scribbled down every single piece of information about each plant she grew in Law's submarine was wet from all of her tears that escaped from her eyes.

After finishing her thick book of medicinal knowledge, she slowly made her way to the galley since it was dinner time. She walked to where Law was sitting and with a straight face, she handed Law the book she had been working hard on all day. Law being confused just straight up ask.

"What is this?"He narrowed his eyes in suspicion.

Her heart started beating faster than she expected and putting on a straight face became a whole lot harder. "That is my thankyou and goodbye present….I'm leaving your crew."
