28th Christmas

"God, I just don't know" Walter said softly as he stood with Curtis letting his husband adjust his collar before kissing him with that gentle way that always soothed. Curtis was like a fine wine… the aftertaste lingering in such a heady way that you wanted more.

"I am fine… we are fine. For goodness sake love… it was just a lamp." Curtis crooned, letting Walter have a moment to stew over the weird gift from the old studio.

I mean… seriously. A lamp? After what happened to Curtis? Was it a joke? A dig? Or were they so tone deaf that a lamp in the shape of a star was not considered poor taste?

Walter now knew his decision to break the contracts he had with the old studios and branch out on his own had been the right idea. Their poor attempts to control, manipulate and cajole left a different sort of taste in his mouth that he knew would remain there in the recesses for a long time. Still… they were coming out the other side and Walter knew his parents had a lot to do with things behind the scenes, guiding and supporting as good fathers do.

"I might send it back in pieces" Walter finally said, turning to seize Curtis and kiss him with as much vigor as he could and he knew now how terrifying his Tad's illness must be to his Dad. Don't get me wrong, as a son he was scared of losing his father to cancer, diabetes or some other act of the gods but now he knew how absolutely soul destroying it was to even consider losing your one true love and the way Jack looked at Ianto sometimes… he got it now.

"Hey… look at me. They tried. They did the best they could to try and smooth things over. It didn't work. If that gift is their idea of an olive branch… damn. Even the poor dove is poisoned by that one right? I don't care. We have our lives ahead of ourselves, our kids, our family and the new studio is doing great, the offers coming in are fantastic. Even Tom bloody Cruise wants us? Wow… they can stick their star up their collective arse… points out!"

Walter laughed as he hugged Curtis again and knew he was right.

Let it go, move on and above all else… be righteous.

He was Piney after all.

And the Sherriff always gets the bad guy, kisses the love of his life and as the sun goes down… walks away.

Fuck the old studio.

He didn't need them, didn't want them and sure as hell knew his sunset with them was nothing compared to the many sunrises he was going to share with Curtis.

Damn… it felt good to be a grownup!
