Title: I'll get even

Chapter: 19 Nightmare island

Rinka read her book in the silence of the infirmary.

Law was sitting behind his desk, working on his research. Lately he was trying to figure out the quite mysterious bones he took out from Rinka's body. The bones that he carefully pulled out from her body had really interested him. The bones were hard like steel but still had the properties of a regular bone. But what really confused him was that the bones were also sharp as a blade as well.

But lately, he had more pressing matters such as fighting marines and saving his crew members.

But finally though, he managed to get some time of his own to study the peculiar item.

Then Law left the infirmary room to probably go eat in the galley like the rest of the crew since it was lunchtime after all.

Rinka rolled a few times in her bed, hissing in slight pain when she rolled on her back, forgetting the injuries that put her there in the first place. You wouldn't think a person would forget it, but currently her mind could only think of one thing...Boring! She was bored as freaking hell! She had been in the infirmary room 3 days and her wounds more or less healed; not completely, but enough to not reopen again. She wants to fight, she wants to train, she wants to do something useful in the sub and not just laying on her lazy ass all day.

The doors suddenly opened and she saw Logan with a clipboard in his hand. "Alright, captain told me you're free to leave the infirmary."

He didn't even have to finish as Rinka hopped from the bed and started looking for her clothes. She smiled and found a pair of plain black jeans that were left for her once she recovered. She straightened her blouse and slipped on her brown boots, pulling the jeans over them.

"But you are still not allowed to participate in any activity that will exert yourself for a few-" Logan was cut off by Rinka almost running out of the room.

"Yeah, yeah, catch you later," After she left the infirmary room Rinka showered and went to dinner where she met up with her friends again.

Another day had already passed when Rinka had finally left the infirmary room. It was about midnight now. The sea was calm but at the moment something strange was happening onboard the Heart Pirates submarine. Law's eyes shot open and he sat up. His calmness returned when he noticed that it was only a nightmare. No matter how much he tried he just couldn't fall asleep.

So, since he obviously wasn't falling asleep anytime soon, he decided to get a glass of water from the galley. To his surprise there were already half of his crew awake as well. "Oi, you too captain?" It was Logan who spoke up when he realized the tired man entering the galley. Everyone else who was there turned to see their captain.

"What is going on?" Law asks Logan. Even if he didn't want to talk about it, it just seemed way too convenient that they were there. It wasn't exactly everyone but more like 5 of his men sitting at tables in the galley with the same tired expression on their faces

"Did everyone have some kind of nightmare or something like that?" Law thought to himself with an uncertain look on his face.

Deciding it was all just a weird coincidence, Law took a glass of water and sat down beside Bepo and Logan.

"You guys too?!" Law asked incredulously.

Penguin and Shachi nodded. "Yep, almost everybody in the crew. Some just stayed in their rooms who were not disturb that much by their nightmares and went back to sleep, while others came here for a drink of water."

"Alright there gotta be some reasonable explanation on why everyone is having nightmares on the exact same night. Right?" Law pondered in wonderment.

Even though it was some sort of issue it was still quite interesting to him.

"What the hell is going on? This is too strange even by my standards."Law mumbled to himself while taking another sip from his glass.

"I'm going back to bed," Law said with a sign and others got up and decided to do the same.

"Land ahoy!" Shachi shouted as he pointed at the rising silhouette of an island before them. It was kinda pointless to call out the obvious since everyone had already been up on deck, while the submarine smoothly sailed through the waves.

As soon as the mechanic shouted "Land ahoy", the other pirates also ran up to the railing in a line, and leaned over it, while watching the island they were approaching.

It was a rather small island, where everything seemed clustered together, with narrow streets between houses and shops.

Rinka strolled down the village street , happy to finally be out of the submarine.

This time the group of pirates was a bit smaller though, only the captain, Bepo , Thorn and her since the rest had work to do in the sub. Rinka only narrowed her eyes in a deep scowl as an unpleasant look crossed her face when she heard they were all coming as well, but she knew she had no choice.

When she turned around, back towards her group, she was surprised to see there was no sign of Thorn and Bepo. Instead only Law was standing there with his nodachi resting on his shoulder. She blinked in puzzlement and went to him.

"Where are the others?"

"Thorn wanted to get some personal supplies and I sent Bepo with him just in case.

Besides, I needed some medical supplies so they wanted to take care of that too." Law explained, saying more than he did all morning.

Pushing open the doors of the bar, the 2 were surprised to see it was completely empty, except for the bartender. A bar with zero customers was rare, especially at this time of the day. Apparently the feeling of surprise was mutual, as the bartender stopped polishing the glasses to stare openly at Law and Rinka. He looked like he was in his late thirties, and had dark circles around his eyes like he hadn't slept in weeks.

"It's so unusual for anyone apart from myself to enter this establishment." The bartender stated, and Rinka thought he sounded upset, sour even. Working up a smile, Rinka introduced herself as new to the island, sat down and ordered a glass of sparkling water. Before Rinka could say anything else to the bartender she suddenly fell asleep.

Before the bartender was about to freak out from the unconscious girl, Law held up his hand to him signaling everything was fine. "Don't worry this is normal, she has narcolepsy." Law stated with a calm tone.

"Oh..thank god, I thought the sparkling water had somehow killed her."The bartender responded with a heavy sigh of relief.

When Rinka woke up a few minutes later from her short nap, she was shaking and panting like she had a terrible nightmare.

The bartender began to chuckle at the distraught swordsman, knowing exactly how the girl is feeling. "Had a nightmare I guess."he said with a smirk.

"Yeah, but how? I was only asleep for a few minutes. How can I get a nightmare in such a short amount of time?"She exclaimed while still shaking a bit.

"You see...this island actually has a curse."The bartender said while cleaning an empty mug.

Sparking Law's curiosity, he joined the conversation as well. "What kind of curse are you talking about?"

"Well for starters just being in the water near the island you begin to have your own terrible nightmares. For the most part they're usually nightmares of your past, maybe something tragic that happened or something that you've always wanted to forget. If it isn't a dream of the past then it's just the thing you fear the most at the moment."

"Well that explained everyone getting nightmares the other night."Law mumbled quietly to himself.

"About 2 years ago the village was pretty normal, believe it or not all of the villagers who used to live here were all happy and outgoing and didn't have a care in the world until one day. Then all of the sudden no one could even sleep for 1 second because they keep on having such horrible nightmares. It got so bad to the point that almost everyone just decided to leave the island . That is why this village is pretty much a ghost town, and some people who didn't leave like myself, just tough out the bad dreams. "

Rinka widen her eyes in shock, not able to have a good night sleep for at least a second sound like torture to her.

"How long does it take for the log pose set?" Law asks, hoping they don't have to be stuck on this island for too long. Not wanting to have anymore nightmares then he already did.

"About 12 hours." The bartender responded.

When they finally reached their submarine, they could already see the rest of the Heart pirate crew working at the docs as they loaded crates and boxes or cleaned the sub's deck. Rinka didn't want to stay long though. Honestly, she is quite curious about the island's strange curse and in a store that might sell swords.

"Bye I am leaving." She subtly turned around to walk away from the submarine, but a low voice stopped her before she could get very far.

The girl stiffened a little, but put on her best innocent facade as she turned around towards Law.

"Where do you think you are going?"Law asked with a smirk.

"Well I wanted to see if there are any sword shops here so I was heading back to the village."

Law crossed his arms on his chest and raised an eyebrow. "Okay, and?"

Rinka's straight face faltered for a second and she cleared her throat. "And, what?" She asked.

Law's face remained serious as he walked over to her. They were a bit further away from the rest of the crew now, who were busy with their own task anyway, so Law and Rinka were left with complete privacy. Law walked a bit closer to her, thankfully didn't invade her personal space. "Miss Rinka, As your captain I would like to know what and where my subordinates are doing and that includes everything."

Rinka sighs knowing she has been caught. "Fine you got me, I actually wanted to investigate more about the strange curse on the island. I mean do you think it's kinda strange it only suddenly appeared 2 years ago. There has to be a reasonable explanation behind it."

Law didn't want the girl to get into any type of trouble while she was still recovering. "No!

"Awww...but why?" She asked with a small pout.

"Because you're not allowed to get into any type of situations that might involve fighting while you're still heavily bandaged.

Rinka rolled her eyes then started unwrapping her bandages right on the spot from where Law was standing.

"What the hell are you doing!?" Law shouted with widened eyes.

Rinka responded with a smirk. "You said it yourself, I am not allowed to do anything fun while I'm still bandaged ." She bluntly stated, happy to find a loophole from Law's rules.

Law tilted his head and folded his arms on his chest. He tried to hide the irritation which rose inside of him from Rinka's actions.

"Stop that immediately, you know what I meant. Now I want you to get your ass back to the infirmary room and stay there until I redo your bandaged!"

"I don't get why you're so bend out of shape, I'm perfectly fine ...I don't need these stupid bandages anymore." She retorted with narrow eyes.

"Please." Was the only word Rinka could hear from Law's quiet tone.

Rinka was truly shocked. Out of all of the words Law could say. And all of the ways he could say it, Rinka didn't expect the word "Please" in such a real and sincere tone.

With no complaints she nodded her head then started heading back to the sub.

After Law was done redoing her bandages, Rinka was sprawled around her bed looking at the metal ceiling and was alone with her own thoughts. She wanted to go out, do something interesting, but most importantly find 2 swords that were just as great, or maybe even a little better just like her old one's.

But that was going to be a challenge. Her old sword ",Yato" was also Rinka's master's favorite sword and it really meant a lot to Phyllis. And yet her master gave that sword to her little apprentice on Rinka's 9th birthday. It felt like it was only yesterday when Rinka held and swung her first real sword.

That particular sword was pretty much unplaceable to Rinka, that was her first sword she fought with. And the same sword she almost died with but now it's no more but little pieces of steel. She needs at least one good quality sword, she doesn't care that much about the second sword quality she just needs 2 swords for her nitoryu fighting style.

To pass so time she decided to read a book she borrowed from Law a few days ago until the log pose was set . She then soon drifted off to sleep slowly while still clutching on to the book.

"Aaron please don't die, please don't leave me alone with mother. I don't like her that much, she is mean and not nice. Promise me you will get better." A very young Rinka pleaded to her very sick older brother. The boy patted his baby sister's head and gave her a warm comforting smile. "Don't worry, I am never going to leave you. Now let me tell you another story about our father."Aaron said reassuring her that she has nothing to worry about. Rinka climbed up to his bed and snuggled up to her big brother and carefully listened to his great tales about their father.

"Our country has many great heroes and strong warriors, but one man in particular stands above them all : Alexander Roland. This legendary hero showed the world that music, art and anything beautiful in life can exist even amongst war and violence. Roland was a great warrior and leader who ruled far and across the land. He protected his kingdom and most importantly, his people from getting invaded and destroyed by pirates or any other bad people in the world.

Hondo Volker was Roland's archenemy. He was a great leader and warrior too, but he never succeeded in defeating Roland. In fact, no one succeeded in defeating Roland in battle, earning him the reputation as "the emperor who never lost a battle." That's how awesome of a hero he was.

Though he was a superb warrior, Roland didn't devote most of his life to fighting. He was actually a musical genius and a scholar. And here is another fun fact about our father, without even touching a person he can knock them out in an instant." Aaron finished off with a large and proud grin.

Rinka had stars in her eyes after hearing that story. "I wish I got to meet him, he sounds like such a cool person."

"Alright young miss, I think you should let your brother get some rest." One of Aaron's nurses said to Rinka with a sweet smile.

"Okay!" Rinka responded with a cheeky grin.

Rinka was kneeling on her big brother's gravestone with tears running down her face.

"It's my fault..I-It's all my fault…If I wasn't ever born then you will be still alive." Rinka said in between sobs.

Rinka suddenly woke up with a book covering most of her face. "What the hell, why did I dream about that?! After a while her shaking had completely stopped by now and she just lied there in complete silence.

"I knew I sensed some strong nightmares~" an eerie voice reached her ears. Rinka took her head out from the covers and looked around. She saw no one but knew that something, or more like someone, was here.

"What the hell are you?!" even though she couldn't see it she still spoke to it. A strange high pitched laughter came from the unknown creature.

"Yes, yes perfect. I've finally found someone that I can toy with," the voice came again.

"Ah... So you're the one who cursed this island," Rinka said in quotations.

The voice began to chuckle once more. "You really are interesting and quite the beauty as well. Playing with you will be fun,"

The person who was talking to her wasn't far away since her observation haki knew exactly where the strange person was located. Everyone who saw the girl running through the halls were slightly confused and some even tried to stop her.

She suddenly stopped from where she was running when she heard a deep and familiar voice. " Rinka, where are you going in such a rush? The log pose is going to set in about 2 hours." Law stated .

"There's no time, just follow me, I'm pretty sure I figured out a way to lift the island's curse." Rinka shouted without even looking back.

After Rinka jumped off the sub and onto the island, a slight breeze caused her hair to sway just a little.

After she ran around in the thick fog for about 10 minutes, by now. And Rinka still hadn't stopped running and anyone else who had followed her didn't stop as well. By this time Rinka was using her observation haki and was really focused on where she was going. Soon enough she tripped into something and then fell to the ground. "Damn!" She grumbled as she rose to her feet.

Not bothering to pay any attention to those who were staring at her, she looked around for the person.

"Why are we out here Rinka!" Law asks just as confused along with the rest of his men .

WIthout saying a word, Rinka started pointing her hand to where a tall silhouette was standing. As the group made their way towards it , the fog began to thicken less and everything was a lot more clearer. What now faced the Heart Pirates was a man who looked to be in his late 20s and had a wicked smirk plastered on his face. The man began to clap at the group of pirates but slowly, kinda sarcastically. "Great great, you found me. But what you didn't realize is that this is actually a trap all along." The mysterious man stated with a smirk.

Thank you for reading.
