It's two months since Hawks moved to Musutafu and as March approaches, he wanted to show his gratitude to the man who took him in.
A/N: I kinda forgot to post updates on this site. Sorry about that. I tend to post on AO3 first before I post my updates here.
OUR BONDS
It's almost mid-February, the temperature was still cool and everyone was wearing their jackets and scarves while they're outside. Hawks shivered in his oversized brown jacket. He tugged his green scarf up to cover the lower half of his face as he observed the people around him curiously. There was a group of girls giggling and talking about boys and then there was a group of boys teasing each other about their probabilities to receive a chocolate gift. The winged teenager hummed to himself in thought as he sat on the bench under a tree. He turned his head when he heard a rustle of plastic to see Ishikawa approaching. The man smiled at him and handed him a warm taiyaki, "Here."
"Oh, thanks!" said the teenager as he accepted the snack. He sniffed at it before taking a bite; it was filled with chocolate cream. He turned to his guardian, "Say, Ichiro-san. What's with all the buzz?"
"Hmm? What do you mean, Hawks?"
Hawks motioned to the group of girls looking at a bakery store display, "Those girls were talking about giving chocolates to their crushes. And those guys over there were talking about getting gifts from girls."
"Oh, it's because it's almost Valentine."
"Valentine?"
Ishikawa turned to his charge, eyes slightly wide, "You… don't know Valentine's Day?"
"Uhh, I've heard of it but I don't really know much… is it important?"
"Well, not really. It's only important to couples I guess," said Ishikawa honestly.
"What's it about?" asked the teenager as he took another bite out of his taiyaki.
Ishikawa tilted his head back to gaze at the sky, "I'm not gonna explain the history of it but in brief, Valentines is when girls give chocolate to the people they like romantically, or not. It's also a chance for them to confess their feelings to the person they like. That's the tradition in Japan. It's celebrated differently in other countries but you could say Valentines is a day for couples."
"Chocolates, huh?" asked Hawks as he stared at the advertisement being played on the large screen attached to a building. He leaned back on his free hand, "Well, I'd rather receive some yakitori than chocolates!"
Ishikawa chuckled, "Of course you would."
"So are you gonna get chocolates from anyone, Ichiro-san?"
"No."
"Why not? You're a good looking man! Charming, cool, classy and a really good cook!" said the teenager as he counted them on his fingers.
Ishikawa coughed behind a fist to hide his blush, "I appreciate those compliments but I'm not anyone's type, I guess."
"Maybe you just never noticed! I'm sure there's someone out there who likes you!"
"C'mon, Hawks. We talked about this before. You needn't concern yourself with the lack of romance or partner in my life. I am quite content as I am now."
Hawks pursed his lips, "Really?"
Ishikawa smiled, "I have you to accompany me."
"But I won't be around once I become pro… won't you be lonely?"
"Even once you become Pro, I'll be around you to make sure you do your job well."
"Aww, don't you trust me?"
The man chuckled and got to his feet, "Let's go home."
"Hey! You didn't answer me!"
"Oi, Hawks! You eat chocolate?" asked Katsuki as he glared at his locker as if it had done him wrong.
"Huh? Oh, yeah," replied the winged teenager distractedly as he pulled on a T-shirt.
Katsuki pulled out a paper bag from his locker, "Good. Help me finish these!"
"What is it?" asked Hawks as he approached his young friend. He took a peek inside the bag and saw some small boxes wrapped nicely. There were a few with bows and ribbons. He couldn't guess what was in the boxes but he did see a few chocolates in cute little plastic wraps.
"Chocolates!" replied the boy with a hint of annoyance.
"Oh! Did you get some for Valentine's Day?"
The boy scrunched up his face in disgust, which Hawks always finds amusing, "Yeah. It's too much for me and I don't really like eating too many sweets. It's bad for your teeth!"
"If you don't like them. Why don't you just throw them away?"
Katsuki stared at him like he was the biggest idiot he'd ever met. He sighed, "I can't do that! They spent some time and money making those for me so it's just… wrong to throw them away like that."
"Aww, how thoughtful of you!" teased Hawks which earned him a jab on his arm.
"Besides, the old hag will find out and I'm in no mood to get yelled at about lack of manners and being ungrateful."
"Your mom is scary," said Hawks. He shuddered at the memory of when he first saw the mother and son having a spat over something he couldn't quite recall when he visited the Bakugou household to hang out with Katsuki. Thank god Masaru was around to diffuse the two bombs, and for being his human shield.
Katsuki scoffed, "She's not that scary."
Hawks smirked, "Riiight. What about that friend of yours? The one who cries rivers? What was his name? Izuno?"
"Oh, you mean Deku? I already gave him some of the chocolates to share with Auntie Inko. I don't think they should eat a lot of sweets though," said Katsuki as he thought about how jittery the Midoriya can be.
"Maybe you should give some to the staff here? I'm sure they'll love the treat!"
Katsuki thought about the suggestion. He shook the bag and nodded, "Alright, that sounds like a plan!"
"I'll introduce you to everyone!" said Hawks excitedly.
"You know everyone who works here?"
"Not all, but I know most of them!"
"Whatever. Lead the way, feathers."
The two boys ended up spending some time going around the building. They stopped by each floor that they could access to hand out the chocolates. Hawks chatted with everyone cheerfully and Katsuki only spoke when spoken to. He got annoyed after a few of the staff started gushing over him, saying that he's adorable and such. Katsuki had to bite back his retorts as he didn't want to get in trouble. He glared at Hawks who had noticed his discomfort at the attention he received.
Hawks noticed that Katsuki was thoughtful enough to give Kitamura extra chocolates, he reasoned it was for the man's sons, and gave a small box to Dr Gorou and reasoned that the elderly man shouldn't be taking too many sweets.
"Alright! That's most of them! Guess we can head home now," said Hawks as he stretched his arms over his head. He yelped when Katsuki smacked his side, "Ow! What gives?"
"You didn't get your share, so here's for you and Ishikawa-san."
"Thanks! I'm not sure if Ishikawa-san likes chocolates though but I'm sure he'll be thankful for the gift."
Katsuki released a silent sigh as he gazed into the now empty paper bag. He folded the paper bag and stuffed it in a bin as they passed by one, "I hope I don't have to deal with this every year."
"Why not? It's free chocolates and this also means you're quite famous with the ladies, isn't it?" asked Hawks with an amused grin.
"The hag's gonna nag me to return the favour on White Day. I have to deal with a bunch of annoying girls!"
"What's White Day?"
"Are you serious?"
Hawks scratched his cheek, feeling his face warming up in embarrassment, "Y-yeah."
Katsuki narrowed his eyes, "Have they been keeping you under a rock or something?"
"Well, my dorm-"
"It's a rhetorical question, dumbass!" said Katsuki with an eye roll. He sighed and ran a hand through his spiky hair, "They should've taught you the normal things people are into… anyways, White Day is when the guys who received gifts from a girl return the favour. Since I got some chocolates for Valentine's, I'm expected to return the favour by giving them gifts a month after Valentine's Day."
"To all the girls who gave you chocolate?" asked Hawks, his eyes widening.
"That's the shitty custom. I think it's dumb that we have Valentine's and White Day. It's a waste of money and some people have false expectations on these days and wound up disappointed at the end of the day."
"Well, I guess I understand why you don't like them…"
"You didn't get any chocolates, did you?"
"Only got some from you! Oh, talking about gifts, I need a little help with that!"
"What do you mean?" asked Katsuki warily.
Hawks looked over his shoulder, "Let's talk while we're in the air."
The blond boy raised a curious brow but he didn't say anything. The two heroes-in-training scanned their passcard and exited the building. Katsuki yelped when Hawks suddenly grabbed him and took off into the air, "Give me a warning next time, won't ya?!"
"My bad! Anyway, about that gift. Ishikawa-san's birthday is coming soon and I want to give him something. What do you think I should get for him?"
"A gift for Ishikawa-san, huh?" Katsuki pondered as he crossed his arms, "Wait, do you even have money to buy him something?"
"The Commission gave me a monthly allowance."
"Really? Huh. Well, if you wanna buy him a gift, get him something he'll like."
Hawks chuckled, "Well, that's pretty obvious."
"Think about his hobbies or the things he likes. Is there anything specific that he really wants to get?"
There was a stretch of silence as Hawks went through what he learnt of his guardian. The teenager snooped around the man's room on the weekend while he was out on a meeting with Kitamura. There wasn't much that could help him figure out what interests the man. Ishikawa was a simple man. He didn't own many things as he had a minimalist mindset. Of course, he kept his games since those were the things he seemed to still be attached to, but the man barely spends his free time playing games, instead, he's always at the kitchen table, writing or sketching in a tattered looking journal.
"Oh."
"Did you figure it out?"
"I think I'll get him a new journal."
Katsuki frowned in confusion, "A journal?"
"Uh-huh, the current one he's using is really worn and he's running out of pages."
"Wouldn't he already have a spare?"
"He's been really busy lately, I don't think he's got time to go get a replacement. And he usually sends me to go buy his office supplies so he doesn't lose time on completing his paperwork."
"Well, if you say so. Let's get down over there, there's a bookstore there."
Hawks did as instructed and they startled a few pedestrians when they landed. Katsuki ignored them and began fussing over his windswept hair while his companion waved apologetically at the startled people. Katsuki grabbed Hawks' hand and dragged him toward a bookstore. They paused at the entrance, Katsuki didn't expect it to be packed that evening. He pointed at an aisle, "You should find some journals over there. I'm gonna check out the manga section over there."
"Okie dokie!" replied the teenager as he navigated himself through the crowd. He bumped into a few people and apologized immediately. He briefly wondered if he should fly over the crowd and shelves but the thought of an angry Katsuki dismissed the idea. He brightened up when he got another idea.
The people around him were startled when his feathers suddenly detached from his wings and floated over their heads. Hawks grinned to himself as he slipped through the crowd more easily to get to where he wanted, totally ignoring the shocked faces of the people around him as his feathers followed him above like a cloud. He saw a row of books on a shelf labelled "Diary/Notebook" and scanned the options on display.
"Oh man, I didn't realize there are many options," he muttered to himself as he rubbed his chin in thought.
Hawks spent about ten minutes looking at the journals when he felt a tug on his shirt. He turned to see Katuski glaring at him in annoyance. The boy hissed at him, "What's taking you so long?!"
"Oh, uhh I dunno which one of these would suit him! Help me, Kats!"
"Fine!" said the boy as he looked at the books on the shelves. He took a black notebook and a dark brown one, "Ishikawa-san's a very serious man. So it has to look plain, no decoration on the cover. And if he writes with inky pens like my old man, you gotta pick the ones with thick paper for the pages so the ink doesn't bleed through. Does he use lined, plain, dotted or grid paper?"
"Huh?"
Katsuki sighed, "Does he draw in his journal?"
"I think so. I saw him sketching in his book."
"Alright, so… let's take the grid one. I think it suits him."
"Whoa! You know a lot, Kats!" said Hawks. The boy never failed to amaze him with his knowledge and skills.
Katsuki turned away to hide his blush, "C'mon, let's go!"
Hawks came to like March because Ishikawa's birthday is in March. He couldn't stop grinning and he failed to focus on what his tutor, Hattori Ryuhei, was saying. The man sighed for the umpteenth time that day when he noticed his student wasn't paying attention, "Hawks!"
The teenager jumped in his seat, "Yes, sir!"
Hattori frowned disapprovingly, "Would you mind telling why you're very distracted today?"
"Ah, it's nothing! I'm sorry!"
"No, enlighten me," said the man as he narrowed his eyes.
The winged teenager cursed mentally, "Really, it's… nothing. I was just thinking about Ishikawa-san's birthday."
The man raised a brow curiously, "His birthday?"
"Yeah, it's this week. I wanted to give him a surprise!"
"Huh. I know he's your guardian but I didn't know you two are very close."
Hawks grinned, "We're like brothers!"
Hattori glanced at his watch, "Well, your time with me is up. We'll double your lesson next week."
Hawks groaned but quickly straightened in his seat when Hattori sent him a glare, "You wasted my time today so that's what you get."
"Yes, sir."
"Now, off you go and behave yourself."
Hawks quickly took his leave. Hattori is one of the few agents that he doesn't like in the facility. The man is always so serious and never appreciates Hawks' jokes. He's such a killjoy and his monotonous voice bores him. The teenager headed down to the cafeteria to have his lunch. He has two hours break and then he'll have a class with another agent before his physical training. He couldn't wait for 4 pm to start his physical training with Katsuki.
He spotted a familiar face and beamed, "Mera-san!"
The ever tired-looking man looked up from his tray of food, "Oh, Hawks-kun. It's been a while. How's life here?"
The teenager plopped down on the empty seat in front of the man, "It's great! There are so many interesting things here! Oh, and I made a friend!"
The man nodded, "I heard. What do you think of the Bakugou kid?"
"He's awesome! He's got a temper and a potty mouth but he's a really good kid! He can be kinda funny too!"
"I'm glad. I heard about the boy's callous attitude and was worried you won't get along."
"He's really not that bad! He just acts tough and uncaring but he cares! He's actually a big softie!"
"He'll blow you to smithereens if he hears you say that," said Kitamura with a chuckle. The man sat on the other empty seat beside the teenager. He nodded at Yokumiru as a greeting, "Bakugou-kun is what you could call a tsundere . Don't tell him I said that! So, how's it going with your branch?"
The messy-haired agent groaned, "We're so overworked there thanks to a surge of villain activities. We requested for more heroes to be sent over to Aichi. It's the third city with the highest crime rate after all."
"But it's not as bad as Osaka, right?" asked Kitamura as he watched Hawks get up to go get some food.
"Osaka's the top when it comes to crime rates. So, anything interesting going on here?"
"Well," Kitamura glanced at Hawks and then leaned forward to whisper, "You heard about Endeavor's eldest boy training here?"
Yokumiru nodded, "Yeah, how's it going?"
"Not good. The kid's got the skill and is competent but the problem is his quirk."
"What about it?"
"Apparently, his quirk heats up his body too fast and he's literally burning himself from the inside out. It's a double-edged sword that's causing more harm to him the longer he uses it."
"What a shame. How'd Endeavour take it?"
"Not well. I heard he's been training his son since his quirk manifested, and to finally realize that boy couldn't be his successor… must be hard for the both of them. I heard rumours from his sidekicks that he didn't take it too well and has frequent fights with his son."
"Wait, wasn't there words that he's training his youngest son now?"
"Yeah, he just started a few months ago."
"I bet the eldest wouldn't take it very well."
"Dr Gorou mentioned that the kid had a meltdown when his father told him that he should stop training to be a hero."
"What's with the serious face?" asked Hawks as he returned.
Kitamura waved a hand dismissively, "Oh, you know. Work. It's always grim and stressful."
"You guys should lighten up! Say, do you think Ishikawa-san likes parties?"
Yokumiru raised his brows in surprise, "Ishikawa? Parties? No way."
Kitamura shook his head, "He usually rejects party invitations. Why do you ask?"
"Uhh, I was thinking if we should celebrate his birthday this weekend."
"Oh, right. Well, he's not the type to celebrate his birthdays though," said Yokumiru as he took a sip of his now cold coffee.
Kitamura rubbed the back of his neck, "I'm not free this weekend though. I promised the boys I'll take them down to the park."
"And I'll be catching up on some sleep. So, no plans of leaving the house for as long as I want," said Yokumiru as he stifled a yawn.
"Aww…"
"Why don't you ask Bakugou-kun?" said Kitamura.
"You think he'll come?"
"I don't know. You can ask him."
Hawks chewed at his food quietly as he thought about the man's suggestion. Katsuki doesn't seem to be the social type though but then again he did plan the party to be a simple one with only a few people. He might come to the party. The teenager nodded as he made his decision, "I'll ask him later."
Yokumiru sent Kitamura a look and the other man smiled behind his mug of coffee. The dishevelled agent got to his feet with a sigh, his food tray in his hands, "I'll see you guys around. Oh and it was nice to know you're doing well here, Hawks-kun."
"You take care of yourself, Mera-san!"
Kitamura rested his chin on a palm and took a bite out of his sandwich, "You'll have class with Munakawa-san later, right? How's it going so far?"
"Muna-san is okay. His classes can be kinda fun. Hattori-san's class on the other hand…"
The agent chuckled, "I understand it can be hard to stay focussed in that man's class. If it'll make you feel better, I even have problems concentrating when he gives briefings. He's just so-"
"-monotonous and boring!" said Hawks, arms flailing.
"What was that about me ?"
Both Hawks and Kitamura froze in fear. They turned around and were relieved to see Ishikawa smirking mischievously at them. Hawks patted at his chest, "Ishikawa-san! You scared us for a moment there!"
"Was my impression of Hattori-san that good?"
"Not gonna lie, you sounded just like him!" said Kitamura.
The light-haired man took a seat in front of his charge and narrowed his eyes, "I had complaints from him. You weren't paying attention in class again, Hawks-kun."
The teenager ducked his head, "I'll try to be more attentive next time, promise!"
Ishikawa sighed, "You better be. I don't want to hear any complaints from any of your tutors if that's possible. If you have problems with any of them, talk to me."
Kitamura grinned, "Whoa, you already sound like a father there, Ishi-san."
Ishikawa felt his cheeks warming in embarrassment, "I'm not his father… but I am in charge of him."
"We need to find him a wife so he can have his own kids!" Hawks joked. Kitamura sniggered beside him. The two ignored the half-hearted glare that Ishikawa sent their way. Ishikawa tried to ignore how his cheeks are probably red, "I've said this many times. I'm not interested in having a relationship. I'm just too busy."
"That's the problem with you, Ishi-san! You're too obsessed with work! You'll need someone to take care of you. besides, you're not getting any younger."
Hawks grinned in amusement at his guardian's flushed face. It was rare to see him get flustered and he finds it funny when he does. He then returned his attention to his meal and wasn't really paying attention when the two men started discussing work over their meals.
"Tell me again, why am I here?" asked Ishikawa nervously. He hoped his charge didn't notice his discomfort.
Hawks looked up from his cell phone, "Because you're invited too."
"B-but I'm not very close with them. Why would they-"
"Kats requested it."
Ishikawa kept his mouth shut. He didn't understand why the Bakugou would invite him over for dinner with them at their place. He's not that close with any of them. He and Katsuki aren't even friends, more like acquaintances. He tugged at his scarf nervously. It has been a while since he was invited to anyone's home. The last person who invited him over was Kitamura for New Year's dinner together. The man could be so persistent and it didn't help that Hawks really wanted to go there too. He smiled at the memory of the teenager having fun playing with his colleague's children.
"We're here!" said Hawks excitedly.
Ishikawa quickly pulled him back before he ran to the door, "Wait, your hair's a mess."
"Huh?" asked the teenager confusedly as Ishikawa brushed his hair back with his fingers. He watched the man tug at his jacket and adjusted his scarf. He grinned slyly when he realized what he was doing, "Ichiro-san… are you stalling?"
Ishikawa stepped back, his cheeks pink, "I'm just… not used to this…"
"And that's why we're here. You need to be more sociable! So you could get yourself a wife, maybe a husband, one day!"
"Hawks-"
The door swung open and Katsuki greeted them, "What are you two doing standing around? You'll freeze your asses. Get in."
"Katsuki! Don't be rude to our guests!" said Mitsuki as she smacked her son. She beamed at the duo at the door, "Welcome! You're just in time for dinner!"
"Thank you for having us, Mitsuki-san!" said Hawks with a wide grin.
"Hello, Hawks-kun! We made sure to have your favourite! Katsuki said you like chicken."
Hawks shrugged his jacket off and grinned at his young friend, "Aww, didn't think he'd remember."
"You never shut up about it!" snapped Katsuki as he grabbed the teenager's jacket to hang on the hooks by the door.
Masaru turned his attention to Ishikawa, "Ah, and Ishikawa-san! It's been a while since we last met."
"And this time for an informal meeting," said Ishikawa.
"Oh, you don't have to be formal with us. Relax!" said Mitsuki as she waved a hand dismissively. She grabbed her son and dragged him to the dining area, "Brat! Help me set up the table!"
"I can walk on my own, hag!"
Ishikawa blinked as he stared at the mother and son. Hawks nudged him and grinned, "Don't worry, this is normal for them."
Masaru chuckled embarrassedly, "I'm sorry you have to see this side of my boy."
"Ah, it's alright. I'm honestly not surprised," said Ishikawa. He had heard a lot about the temperamental boy from his charge. Hawks talks about his young friend every day and sometimes he even talks about the boy's parents.
Ishikawa followed Hawks, who was quite familiar with the Bakugou household by now, to the dining area. The table was set up and he saw Katsuki coming in with a large tray of roasted chicken. The boy nodded at him, "We tried to follow your recipe the best we can. I hope it's good enough for you guys."
"I'm sure it is! You're always good at whatever you do!" Hawks praised.
Katsuki's face flushed at the praise. He quickly stomped off to the kitchen after placing the food on the table. The teenager turned to Masaru in confusion, "Did I say something wrong?"
The man grinned and patted his back good-naturedly, "He's just embarrassed. He rarely gets praises from other people."
"Huh."
"Have a seat. Dinner will start soon!"
"Oh! I'm gonna go see if they need help in the kitchen!" said Hawks as he headed to the kitchen, leaving his guardian with Katsuki's father.
Ishikawa took a seat and tried not to show signs of anxiousness around the older man. Masaru gave him a friendly smile as he took a seat, "You don't have to be nervous around us."
"Ah, I'm sorry. I'm just not used to being in the company of others casually."
"Katsuki told us about that. Hawks-kun talked about your uhmm, lack of social skill with him. That boy is really trying his best to help you."
Ishikawa smiled, "Yes. He's always like that. his persistence can be a little irritating though."
"Well, at least your boy is well mannered. My Katsuki on the other hand…"
The agent chuckled, "He must be quite a handful."
"Oh, he is. We try to make him stop cussing and reign in his temper but well, I'm sure you know where he gets it from…"
"Kids tend to imitate the people around them."
Masaru sighed, "I wish he'd imitate me more than Mitsuki."
There was a moment of silence before both men burst into laughter. Ishikawa fell into a comfortable silence, a smile still on his lips. Masaru cleared his throat, "I know you're not his father but you raised a good boy there. I'm sure Hawks-kun will be a good hero."
"T-thank you, Bakugou-san."
Ishikawa jumped in his seat when Hawks' voice rang out loud as he sang the "Happy Birthday" song with Mitsuki and a reluctant Katsuki. He turned in his seat to see his charge carrying a small cake with three lit candles on it. Hawks grinned widely as he brought the cake to the table, singing off-key. He stopped in front of his guardian as he ended the song, "Happy birthday, Ichiro-san!"
Ishikawa blinked his eyes in disbelief. He looked at the Bakugous who were smiling at him, even Katsuki himself. His eyes returned to his charge's hopeful gaze, "So this dinner invitation-"
"It's actually a surprise party for you! Surprise!" said Hawks excitedly.
"I tried to discourage him about the party but he keeps whining about it," said Katsuki.
The agent felt tears sting his eyes. He was used to not celebrating his birthdays since his father passed. A warm feeling bloomed in his chest. He smiled at Hawks, "Thank you, Hawks. I appreciate it."
"Make a wish!" said the teenager as he moved the cake closer to the man's face.
Ishikawa stared at the candles for a few moments before blowing out the flames. Mitsuki and Masaru cheered and clapped their hands as their son moved to take a seat beside his father. Mitsuki instructed Hawks to put the cake on the table so she could begin slicing it for everyone. Ishikawa smiled as he watched everyone move about, putting food on their plates and talking animatedly.
Hawks plopped down on the empty seat beside him, grinning proudly of himself, "You look like you're enjoying this party, birthday man!"
"Well, it's a small party… I could get through this."
"See? I told you he'll like it!" said the teenager as he turned to his explosive friend.
"Yeah, but it was my idea to make sure it's a small one. Did you know this birdbrain planned to invite everyone at the agency?" said Katsuki.
Ishikawa smirked in amusement, "Really?"
Hawks flailed his arms frantically, face flushed in embarrassment, "That's not true! I was just asking everyone if you like parties!"
Katsuki grunted and started eating his meal. Hawks sent him a glare which he ignored and Ishikawa couldn;t help but chuckle at their interaction. He cleared his throat, "I guess I have you to thank too, Baku- Katsuki-kun."
It was the explosive boy's turn to get flustered, "You don't have to thank me! I was just making sure the idiot didn't go on with his plan!"
Mitsuki smirked impishly, "Awhhh, look at our brat! He's blushing!"
Katsuki turned his attention to his mother and they two started shouting at each other. Masaru tried to placate them, reminding the two that they have guests over. Ishikawa sent a pitiful smile at the man's way when their eyes met. He turned his attention to his charge when he felt the teenager tap his shoulder. Hawks handed him something wrapped in black paper and decorated with a golden bow.
"I hope you'll like my gift! Katsuki, helped me choose this one!"
"Really? Hmm, what is it?" asked the man as he took the gift. It's not big, it's the size of a book. He looked up to meet the teenager's eye, "Is it a book?"
"Why don't you see it for yourself?"
"Hmm, I'll open it when we get home."
He notice the teenager's excitement faltered before it returned, "Let's eat! I'm starved! Hey, Kats! Pass me that chicken!"
"Where are your manners?!"
"Uhh, please?"
"Brat! That's not how to talk to our guests!"
"And this is not how to behave in front of our guests!" said Masaru, raising his voice slightly as his patience wore thin. He felt proud of himself when his wife and son finally shut up and looked sheepish. Masaru crossed his arms and straightened his spine, "Now, apologize to our guests!"
Both mother and son turned to their guests and mumbled their apologies. Masaru clapped his hands and smiled, "Alright, now let's enjoy the meal."
Hawks leaned closer to his guardian and whispered, "Masaru-san can be scary too."
Ishikawa chuckled, "All of them are, don't you agree?"
The teenager chuckled, "Well, I guess they're called Bakugou for a reason! Katsuki!"
"What?!"
"This chicken is so delicious!"
"O-of course! I followed the recipe!"
"Hah! You're blushing again!"
"Hawks, you shouldn't-"
"I am not blushing!"
Ishikawa sighed and ignored the noise. He enjoyed his meal and had a pleasant conversation with both Masaru and Mitsuki while enjoying the sight of the two boys in their own heated conversation. Ishikawa felt relieved, it was a good decision, after all, to move away from Fukuoka. Hawks seemed happier here. And a happy Hawks is a happy Ishikawa Ichiro.
Later that night, in the privacy of his room, Ishikawa couldn't hold back the happy tears as he read the short message Hawks had scribbled on a piece of paper that he had stuck in the journal. he rubbed the back of his hand against his eyes and sighed, "Thank you, too, Hawks-kun."
Thank you for being my family.
You made me feel less lonely.
A/N: "Well, I guess they're called Bakugou for a reason!" When Hawks said this part, he's referencing to the first kanji in the family name that is also the first kanji that's used in the kanji for "explosion". The '"Baku" also means bomb. So, he's saying they're a loud, explosive family. LOL.
