Chapter 13
Greetings viewers! I hope all of you enjoyed the last chapter. This chapter has a lot of violence. So a warning. There's no torture and stuff, but it's the usual warlike theme.
Also, this story will be followed by two others. So I'm going to be writing a trilogy.
I'd like to thank the three guests, freakofnature65, DaMonkey0706, football78, and The Last Kid for your supportive reviews. All your reviews and suggestions are instrumental in making this a better story.
I'd like to thank Hippie Painter and JoJo Jesus for your continued support! I have a broad idea for a good romantic arc between Percy and Athena and I hope all of you will enjoy it.
In reference to ShadowThanatos' review, I announced the pairing because I had already delayed it enough and I wanted to start working towards the pairing before I changed my mind once again. I'm happy that you enjoyed the little light moments I try to put in my chapters. Thank you for your continued support!
In reference to Perseus04' review, I have only one thing to say- No spoilers :) I have a few wild ideas, but they'll take time to develop. Thank you for your continued support! You were this story's first reviewer and I'm happy that you're still following this story.
In reference to Sidaqlotay07's review, I am a huge fan of Percy X Calypso pairing too, but, I feel that the warrior mentality I have given Percy in this story, is more suited for Athena. However, after this trilogy is over, I plan to write two more stories, both of those will be a Percy X Calypso. Thank you for your continued support!

Athena could sense a general feeling of worry and anxiety stifling the air in the Olympian throne room. Helios' report had unnerved everyone. Even Ares and Apollo, who were usually the most boisterous of the bunch, seemed quiet and subdued. All of them, including Hades, were waiting impatiently for the arrival of Poseidon. Her father seemed to be deep in thought and was about to say something when the smell of sea breeze filled the room, followed by the arrival of Poseidon. Though, they were all surprised that Poseidon was not alone.
Behind him was a man who put even the gods to shame in terms of appearance. He was tall, extremely well-built and was wearing the same sea green robes as the Lord of the sea, which could only mean he was someone from the god's inner circle. He had jet black, windswept hair, aristocratic features and eyes the vibrant, piercing green of the sea on a peaceful day. Something was off about him though, his aura seemed to be that of a weak demigod's and yet, similar to a major god, his very presence seemed to exert a subtle pressure on her.
The mysterious man immediately bowed to her father. "Lord Zeus."
Her father gave a quizzical look at Poseidon who just smirked and declared "Brother, this is Perseus. My second son and second in line to the throne of Atlantis."
Realisation dawned on her father and awe was visible on the faces of the rest of the gods present in the throne room.
"What is the purpose of bringing him here, Poseidon?" Her father questioned.
"Lord Zeus, I am here because I have information about one of the Gigantes." Perseus rose and answered on behalf of his father.
"I did not ask you to rise, boy." Her father reprimanded him with narrowed eyes. He seemed baffled when the prince did not even flinch a little but instead just nodded at his father.
"Zeus, now is not the time for formalities. My son defeated three minor gods today and he has gathered some important information from them." Poseidon answered.
"He defeated three minor gods? Don't take this the wrong way Uncle Poseidon, but his aura seems to be that of a weak demigod's. I find it a little far-fetched that he could defeat anyone with godly blood in their veins." Artemis voiced her suspicions.
Poseidon just smirked at his son and immediately a wave of raw power pushed Athena back into her throne.
Her eyes widened as she realised that it was emanating from the prince in the centre of the throne room. His eyes were glowing but, unlike before, they seemed to mirror a violent sea storm. She could not fathom how this man, who supposedly wasn't even a god, could radiate as much power as her, one of the strongest second-generation Olympians.
"Lady Artemis, if that's proof enough for you, can we please talk about the problem at hand?" Percy asked Artemis. Unable to form any words, the moon goddess numbly nodded back in consent.
"As my father was saying, I overheard some information from the gods I was sent to capture, and it seems like they were serving an immortal named Polybotes. I am certain that he is one of the new generation of immortals birthed by the Earth Mother to wage war against Olympus." Perseus laid out all the information he had gathered. Everyone, including Zeus, slightly paled at this bit of information.
"Helios has confirmed that a new immortal is roaming through the countryside and is gathering an army of monsters." Athena repeated Helios' report to them.
"That is not all. Selene told me that she spotted the Chimera roaming the wilds." Hestia informed.
"The Chimera has not been spotted since Bellerophon killed it. It being back can only mean that it's aiming to join the ranks of this immortal." Athena deduced.
"Yes, the Chimera poses a problem. The consequences will not be good if it meets up with this immortal. I need to hunt it." Artemis declared.
"No daughter. All of you need to hunt the gigas. I will order one of the minor gods to hunt it." Zeus ordered.
"Brother, the Chimera is attacking mortals and the minor gods are not allowed to interfere in mortal matters. Artemis is the only one who has both the power, as well as the jurisdiction to hunt it unless you are willing to lift your decree." Hestia explained and suggested.
"Absolutely not. I will not let the decree be lifted." Hera venomously opposed, she would not let the only thing that was holding back Zeus from being even more unfaithful to her to be abolished.
Before any arguments could begin, Perseus interrupted them. "I will hunt the Chimera." he fearlessly declared. At this all the gods looked at him in disbelief.
"Cousin, this is the Chimera, not a simple hellhound. You may be invulnerable, but the Chimera can breathe fire. Are you sure about facing it alone?" Hermes asked.
Percy just smiled at him and turned to Hestia "Lady Hestia, I request you to send a torrent of flame at me." Percy asked his aunt. Hestia seemed unsure, but at the reassuring smile Percy gave her, she sent a pillar of fire at his torso.
The pillar hit him right in the chest and due to the power behind it, he skidded back a few feet and smoke obscured him from vision. When the smoke descended, it appeared that Percy was unscathed.
"As you can see Lord Hermes, I am immune to fire. This is a result of my father's nature and my invulnerability." Percy clarified.
"Alright boy, you have been tasked with killing the Chimera. For your sake, I hope you have what it takes to kill it. Get the whereabouts of the Chimera from Selene." Zeus ordered Percy who bowed.
"The rest of you have your orders. Follow them. This meeting is dismissed" Zeus disappeared from the throne room in a blinding flash of lightning.
All the Olympians except Poseidon, Ares, Hermes, Apollo and Athena flashed out of the throne room. Ares was the first to approach Percy.
"Invulnerable and divine, huh? I will have to take you up on that challenge." Ares declared with ferocious smirk. He seemed a bit startled when Percy just laughed in response.
"You are welcome to try, Lord Ares." Percy replied with a smirk of his own
Ares grinned. He liked this man. He had used all his powers to rouse as much anger as possible from the man, but it seemed that he was impervious to his machinations.
"Call me Ares. I look forward to killing immortals with you Perseus. For now, farewell." Ares said with a hint of respect before vanishing in a cloud of blood-red smoke.
"You seem like a nice guy, cousin. I reckon it will be fun to have you around." Apollo beamed at Percy and vanished in a bright flash of golden light.
"Perseus, you are officially invited to join Apollo and I in our excursions to the mortal world." Hermes mischievously suggested.
"Hermes." Poseidon warned from behind Percy. Hermes just winked at Percy before vanishing in flash of white light.
"You are a biological marvel. I did not trust Chiron when he told me about your prowess. But now that I feel your aura pulsating, I see that his boasts were not false. I hope you succeed in your hunt." Athena said with an almost undetected amount of awe in her voice. There was something about this man that intrigued her.
"Thank you, Lady Athena. I wish you success on your hunt as well." Percy replied with a broad smile and a tilt of respect.
Athena returned his smile with a small one of her own and vanished in a grey light.
Percy then turned to his father and addressed him " I shall meet Lady Selene father. Even when I am on the hunt, if there is a problem under the seas, inform me. I will immediately return to defend my home."
"Focus on your hunt, son. You have already dealt this Polybotes a deadly blow. For now, don't worry about the seas." Poseidon reassured. Percy nodded at his father and they both vanished in a blue mist, with different locations in mind.
Percy had been roaming the Kekropean countryside for the past week in search of the Chimera. Selene had told him that she had last spotted it here and he was decked in his armour, spear in hand, ready to strike the monster as soon as he spotted it. No matter where he looked though, the Chimera had eluded him.
All of a sudden, his advanced hearing picked up the soft rustling of grass due to the movement of a heavy animal and he immediately sprinted towards the source of the sound.
His suspicions were confirmed as he spotted the Chimera in a clearing. Mustering all his strength, he threw his spear at it but the Chimera seemed to be expecting him and it immediately twisted out of the way before launching a torrent of flame at him.
Percy was prepared for this outcome and had surrounded himself in a miniature hurricane. The flames extinguished as soon as they hit the outer layer of the hurricane and mist filled the clearing. Percy's swords materialised in his hands and they took on the familiar glow as he struck them against each other. Instantly, a large shockwave propelled the unsuspecting Chimera through an entire sector of the forest.
Percy dashed towards the monster and brought down his swords in a wide arc in an attempt to behead its lion head. The Chimera blocked the swords with its razor-sharp claws and its snake tail came from behind to bite him.
The moment the snake tail tried to bite his arm, its fangs shattered, much to the Chimera's shock. Capitalising on this, Percy kicked the Chimera on its underbelly with an ethereally glowing boot.
The Chimera let out a cry of pain and Percy decapitated its snake tail. In response, the wounded beast swatted Percy with a monstrous paw and he crashed into a tree. The Chimera followed this by unleashing another torrent of flame at Percy.
The torrent of flame hit Percy square in the chest but, before the Chimera could rejoice in victory, two pitch black swords were buried to the hilt in its sides. The monster gave one last silent scream as its essence was ripped out and absorbed by the pitch-black swords. No one would be seeing it again for the next few millennia.
Percy was wiping his sweat as he tried to catch his breath when he was hit with a large boulder, which sent him flying into a tree. Immediately, a dozen boulders flew in his direction, but before they could crush him, Percy vanished in a blue mist. When he rematerialized, his eyes widened at the sight in front of him.
Standing before him was an army of a wide array of monsters. Laistrygonian giants, dracanae, hellhounds and Cyclopes were present in dozens. Before the Laistrygons could throw the next wave of boulders, Percy's short javelins appeared in his hands and he threw six of them in quick succession, disintegrating the first line of giants. He then dashed fowards and beheaded the first Cyclopes that attempted to club him and tore through the next line of monsters.
The dracanae archers attempted to shoot him, but his armour took most of the arrows without harming him in any way while the few that went through bounced off of his skin.
He simultaneously decapitated two dracanae and then sent a hard kick at a Cyclopes, sending him flying into the monstrous maw of the hellhound behind him. Percy willed a hurricane to envelop him and its rainbands ripped apart any monster that attempted to come near him.
He then condensed the water vapour around him and sent two large, pressurised jets of water at the monsters, tearing through a dozen monsters each. As he impaled a Laistrygonian giant, he surveyed the damage he had caused. More than two-thirds of the monster army had been destroyed before Percy vanished in a blue mist.
When he rematerialized a hundred feet away, his spear was in his hand and it was aimed at the centre of the monster army. The tip of his gleaming Celestial Bronze spear took on a bright ethereal glow as he threw it and he vanished from the area as soon as it left his hand.
As the spear pierced through the head of the hellhound that Percy was aiming at, a large, radial shockwave erupted from the tip of the spear, accompanied by a loud roar. As the shockwave spread through the monster ranks, a mix of monster dust and debris covered the entire area.
When the dust settled, in place of an army of monsters and a dense forest was a mile long, barren crater.
The Atlantean Royal Family had gathered in the dining room for lunch. Poseidon and his sons were discussing their next course of action in the ongoing war and Amphitrite tuned out of the conversation.
Amphitrite was proud, shocked and terrified all at once. A few weeks ago, when her son had returned from his successful hunt with only a few large bruises and other small ones, she had been surprised that he had so easily accomplished something that was a daunting task for anyone except a major god. But she had learnt that killing the Chimera was not the only thing Percy had accomplished.
Selene had borne witness to and had spread the information of Percy's decimation of a monster army of two hundred monsters. Amphitrite had always known that Percy was on par with Triton and the younger Olympians, but that information had never registered until the she received news of the crater he had caused. His seismokinesis made him a very dangerous foe and she had never been happier that he showed as much restraint as she had taught him to. Her thoughts were interrupted by a frantic Delphin.
"Forgive me for interrupting Lord Poseidon but I bring grave news. Three massive armies of thousands of sea monsters and rebel mermen have gathered and are attacking Atlantis, Pearl and Clam." As soon as Delphin finished his statement, all the members of the Royal Family shot up from their seats in alarm.
"I want Narsus and Bellaurus to guard Atlantis with their contingents. Send Austus' and Ourus' contingents to Pearl and command Faurus and Norus to head to Clam. Me, Triton and Percy shall personally lead these armies." Poseidon declared
"I have another piece of information my lord. The armies attacking Pearl and Clam are smaller but they seem to be led by minor gods. The army that is attacking Atlantis is much larger, however there does not seem to be any god leading it." Delphin revealed.
"Then let Poseidon defend Pearl and let Triton defend Clam. We will have Percy protect Atlantis. Poseidon and Triton cannot directly fight alongside our armies if there is no god on the opposite side or unless someone in the opposing army challenges you to a fight, which they won't do. Having one of you here will be of no use. Percy on the other hand has no such limitations to bind him. Let him defend Atlantis and, if an immortal is involved, my sisters and I can always jump into the fray." Amphitrite advised.
Poseidon deeply pondered over this suggestion. Narsus and Bellaurus had the largest contingents and Percy was well equipped to deal with an army, if his previous feat was anything to go by. It was certainly a better idea than not participating.
"All right Delphin. I want you to report all this to the Generals, the three of us will join you in a moment." Poseidon commanded. Delphin bowed and teleported out of the room.
"Father, are you sure about letting me defend Atlantis instead of you?" Percy asked his father.
"I have full faith in you and your abilities son. You are a Prince of Atlantis. Defending your home is your birth right. Good luck son." Poseidon reassured, Percy looked at Triton for his consent and even Triton smiled in confirmation.
Simultaneously, Royal Armour enveloped all four members of the Royal Family and they vanished in a blue mist.
Percy was anxiously starting at the attacking army along with Narsus and Bellaurus. He had never seen such a large army of monsters and mermen. There seemed to be thousands of sea monsters, marine life and rebel mermen.
Even though his armies outnumbered the enemy almost four to one, there were sea monsters so ancient that even the Atlantean library had few details about them. This was puzzling - never before had these ancient beasts rallied this efficiently. There was something that he did not know, and he intended to find it out. That was a thought for a later time though; for now he turned his attention to the generals accompanying him.
"General Narsus, I want you to lead the cavalry charge on their right flank and General Bellaurus, I want you to lead a similar cavalry charge at their left flank. I will lead the infantry charge at the centre of their army. Once you have broken the flanks, encircle the enemy and we will deliver the killing blow from all sides." Percy commanded, the generals bowed, mounted their hippocampi and shot off towards their respective cavalries.
Percy put his helmet on and roared "FOR ATLANTIS!" all the soldiers repeated after him and Percy's spear materialised in his hand as he drew back, carefully throwing it at a sea serpent.
The spear nailed the sea serpent exactly inbetween its eyes and it disintegrated into gold dust. His troops cheered and that was exactly what Percy had wanted. He knew that maintaining troop morale was just as important as any other significant tactical advantage. Percy then shot off in a geyser towards the attacking army.
Percy disembowelled the first merman he met before kicking the second one into the third. A sea serpent attempted to bite him from behind, but he flipped just in time and drove both of his swords deep into the serpent's skull.
Percy's swords were replaced by his javelins and he impaled dozens of mermen with them. Then, his trident materialised in his hands, which he used to shoot a beam of blue energy. The beam disintegrated an entire line of the monster armies. The young prince then swirled the sea around him to form a large whirlpool and he descended on the enemy ranks.
The battle continued for hours with the Atlantean army slowly and continuously pushing back the attacking army. A loud cheer from the right, followed by a similar cheer on the left signified that the generals had managed to break the enemy flanks. Percy solidified the water above him into a large fist and brought it down on the ranks that had gathered in front him. The fist crushed hundreds of mermen and monsters and sent the rest fleeing in fear.
Percy's swords took on an ethereal glow as he was about to deliver the final blow, but he sensed a presence that made him feel weak in the knees.
A hundred feet in front of him, was the ugliest being he had ever seen. It was forty feet tall with grey and scaly reptilian legs. He was wearing a blue and green breastplate shaped with the face of monsters and he had wild green hair that seemed to be made out of medium-sized basilisks. He was wielding an equally large trident along with a Celestial Bronze net. Most of all, he radiated a poisonous aura.
Deciding to act, Percy struck his swords and a shockwave made it's way towards this newcomer but the monster detected the shockwave and neutralised it by sending back a poisonous green beam of energy.
"Ah, we finally meet, Perseus, the famed Prince and second in line to the throne of Atlantis. So, Poseidon ran away and let you defend Atlantis. How pitiful." The newcomer loudly stated with a dark smirk.
"Who are you? Tell me before I split you in half." Percy commanded with a steely voice.
"Split me in half?" The newcomer laughed and continued "You are not even equipped to fight me, pesky prince. I am Polybotes, Son of Gaea and Tartarus. I am the bane of Poseidon and I am here to fulfil my destiny and conquer Atlantis." Polybotes loudly declared.
Percy's eyes widened to the size of saucers at this bit of information, he was in no way equipped to fight one of the Gigantes with a weakened army.
"FALL BACK. DON'T ENGAGE HIM." Percy bellowed out orders.
"It's too late for that, son of Poseidon. One of your soldiers thought that I was a sea monster and challenged me. Admittedly, that didn't work in his favour." Polybotes replied with a sadistic smile as he showed Percy the head of a lifeless merman soldier.
Percy shot a gigantic jet of pressurised water at the gigas. But, to his absolute shock, the crystal blue water turned into a venomous green poison as soon as Polybotes touched it with his trident. He then directed the same poison back at Percy who used the currents to change its trajectory.
"Shocked? I was born to oppose your father, it's only logical that I can turn water into poison. Come on Prince of Atlantis, attack me if you dare." Polybotes taunted.
Percy knew his hydrokenesis was useless against this gigas. But he had to have some weakness. If Percy called for the aid of his mother and his aunts, there was a good probability that the gigas would flee. This was an opportunity to gain an advantage early in the war so he decided he would battle the gigas alone, at least until he found out his enemy's weakness.
"Oppose my father? Don't make me laugh Gigas. You cannot even beat me without turning water into poison." Percy baited.
"I will kill you and impale your head on a spike to break your father's spirit." Polybotes declared with a look of fury as he slammed his trident on the sea floor and instantly, a large air bubble enclosed him and Percy.
Percy smirked. The gigas had taken the bait, Narsus and Bellaurus would take care of the rest of the monster army. He just had to take care of the gigas.
Percy vanished in a blue mist and reappeared above Polybotes, bringing his swords down on his head. Polybotes blocked the attack with his trident and tried to capture Percy in his net. Percy twisted out of the way, flipped and buried his swords in the gigas' neck.
Polybotes roared in pain and tried to swat Percy away with his trident, though Percy vanished in a blue mist before that could happen, he was shocked that the wounds had started healing as soon as his swords were removed.
Polybotes looked at the incredulous look on Percy's face and smirked in a predatory fashion. "You cannot kill me, son of Poseidon. Even if you lethally wound my head, heart or any other vital organ, it will be a futile effort. I am invincible to all divine and mortal attacks. I can only be killed by a combination of mortal heroes and divine immortals. Ironic, isn't it? You would have been more useful as a lowly demigod than the immortal god that you've now become." Polybotes arrogantly boasted. Little did he know, that arrogance would cost him his life.
"Mother, I want you to be ready with your trident. As soon as I pray to you again, I want you to deliver the finishing blow to the gigas in front of me. He can only be brought down by our combined efforts." Percy mentally spoke to his mother. The gigas had played right into his hands.
"What?! You are fighting a gigas? My sisters and I will be there immediately." Percy heard Amphitrite's reply.
"No mother! This is a chance to eliminate a very dangerous opponent. If you and your sisters materialise, he will flee. Please wait for my signal." Percy replied. The line was silent for a few seconds.
"Alright. I will wait for your signal. Stay safe, my son." Amphitrite voiced her agreement through their mental link.
"What is the matter, oh brave Prince of Atlantis? Are you so paralysed in fear that you have been left speechless? If that is the case, I will do you a favour and sever your head in a single stroke, ridding you promptly of this existence." Polybotes cruelly declared.
"Paralysed? I am so repulsed by your appearance, that I could not even comprehend how someone as ugly as you could be born. I doubt that you can even move around in that fat ugly body of yours. You should have been named Uglybotes instead of Polybotes. In my opinion, that describes you far more accurately." Percy taunted with a predatory smirk.
Polybotes bellowed in anger and charged at Percy. He crossed the large distance in between them in only a few steps and wildly swung his trident at Percy in a downward arc.
To Polybotes' disbelief, Percy blocked the attack with his two swords, albeit the strain was visible on his face. Using his opponent's shock, Percy jumped, channelled his seismokinetic power through his swords and struck them against Polybotes' armour.
The resulting shockwave blew Polybotes a good thirty feet backwards. When he came to a stop, his arms and his exposed neck were bleeding ichor.
"You will pay for this son of Poseidon. I will give you a fate worse than death." Polybotes darkly announced.
"You're full of hot air and false claims gigas. If you are losing against me, how do you even hope to match my father? You should just crawl back to where you came from." Percy took another jab at Polybotes.
Polybotes slammed his trident down and Percy was hit by a wall of force which pushed him a hundred feet backwards and he crashed into a rock which shattered upon impact.
By the time he recovered, Polybotes was upon him and furiously tried to impale him with his trident. Percy managed to deflect the attack just in time and the two of them engaged in a vicious duel.
The intricate dance of blades continued for some time. While Polybotes had the advantage in strength, it was neutralised by Percy's agility and superior skill. In frustration, Polybotes tried to stab Percy, but Percy managed to twist out of the way and struck his faintly glowing swords at each other in front of Polybotes' face.
The shockwave momentarily stunned Polybotes and Percy used that moment to bury his swords in Polybotes' eyes. Two fountains of ichor spurted from his eyes as Polybotes bellowed in pain.
"Mother, NOW!" Percy mentally shouted and immediately Amphitrite materialised with her trident. Before Polybotes could comprehend what was going on, she stabbed him in the neck. Immediately, Polybotes went rigid and dissolved into a mass of seaweed, poisonous goop and reptile skin.
Outside the air bubble, the Atlantean armies had defeated most of the attacking army and the tiny fraction that was left, had escaped after the death of their leader.
Percy fell to a knee as he caught his breath after the exhausting fight. Amphitrite was at his side as she softly caressed his cheek.
"Rest my son. You not only managed to hold off the gigas alone, but you also outwitted him and have figured out the greatest weakness of the Gigantes. You killed an immortal born to oppose your father. I am very proud of you." Amphitrite proudly stated. Before Percy could reply, Poseidon and Triton materialised next to them. Instantly the air bubble around them dissolved.
"What happened here? Why is Percy covered in ichor?" Poseidon asked in worry. Amphitrite patiently explained the whole battle in detail to him and Triton.
"My son, you have done a great job in protecting Atlantis. You have beaten my bane and that is your greatest feat." Poseidon stated with pride evident in his eyes. By now, all the generals and soldiers had gathered around the Royal Family and were intently listening to their king.
"For all these reasons, I confer upon you the title of Champion of Atlantis. All hail Prince Perseus, Son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, Champion Of Atlantis." Poseidon bellowed.
Immediately, everyone except the Royal Family fell to one knee as they bowed to Percy.
It was at that moment, that they heard Zeus' frantic voice from the other side of an iris message "Poseidon. Come to Olympus immediately, two of the Gigantes are trying to get to Olympus by stacking three mountains and we have to deal with them."
Poseidon's eyebrows shot up in surprise. He nodded at Triton and Amphitrite and placed his palm on Percy's armour-clad shoulder, both of them vanishing in a blue mist.
Hey guys! Now I know this chapter may feel like it's paced very fast, I did that to give the first Gigantomachy a more warlike beginning and try to express the sense of urgency in the beginning of a war.
Kekropea is Athens before having Athena as it's patron god.
I know you may be thinking that Polybotes is supposed to approximately be on Poseidon's level and yet Percy managed to beat him alone. I wanted to clarify, Percy is not stronger than Polybotes, at least not yet. However, he is much smarter than Polybotes. So he goads Polybotes into revealing his weakness and also makes him lose control by constantly taunting him. Even Polybotes does not take Percy seriously and he thinks that Percy is a god, so Percy uses that and a surprise attack from Amphitrite to kill him. Their next clash, won't be this easy.
Read and review, this is my first legitimate fight scene and I hope all of you liked this chapter. Have a great day!
