Rated K Family and Friends. Hurt/Comfort.
They didn't make a sound as they creeped up the stairs. One of them had already overridden the security system. Suddenly the bedroom door flew open as Fargo sat up with surprise and fear. Before he could reach for the gun he kept in his dresser drawer for emergencies, they held up their guns and without saying a word one of them threw a hard punch towards Fargo as the other two tied up his wrists. Fargo fought as hard as he could but they outnumbered him not to mention out gunned. The struggling, fighting, even the advanced security system. None of it had protected him that night. They had broken through his house and took him right out of his bed. Now they were on their way to where he had no clue, but he was terrified out of his mind. There was a gag over his mouth and a blindfold covering his eyes. He struggled trying to break free but found out the hard way that the people who held him had no problem punishing him physically to teach him a lesson. "Who are these people? What are they gonna do with me?", Fargo thought in his head with fear. They drove for about 10 minutes before the car stopped. Henry was in the alternate propulsion lab at G.D. with Zane working on a particle fusion exciter when his PDA buzzed. "Henry Deacon.", he said picking up the phone. "Hello Dr. Deacon.", said a voice he didnt recognize. "Hello, who is this?", he asked. "Someone who wants something. And I think you can help me get it.". "What do you mean?", Henry said looking at Zane curious. "I want all of G.Ds data and files.", said the voice over the phone. "And why would I do that?", asked Henry. "Because if you don't, your director will die a slow death.". Henry tried to keep his calm as he whispered to Zane to trace the call. "What have you done with Fargo?", said Henry as his blood boiled. Hearing those words Zane looked at Henry anxious to know what was going on. "Nothing much yet. Just a few cuts and bruises. But if you don't get that information soon, well let's just say your town will be looking for a new director. Im sending you an encoded message. Send the files through the archive in the message. You have 48 hours.". The phone hung up and Henry almost threw it down in anger. "Zane did you get their location?", Henry asked a little frantic. "Yea...its here at G.D.", said Zane surprised. Henry called Allison and Jack on his way out of the lab as Zane followed. Back in the car Fargo was ripped out of his seat and thrown onto the ground. He wore a t-shirt and boxer shorts. He felt his now scraped up face and arm sting from the harsh pavement. His jaw hurt worse now not just from the punch or two from before but when his face hit the cold hard earth. They now grabbed him by the shoulders and dragged him inside. He could feel the tip of the gun pressing hard against his temple. He recognized the number of steps and feeling of G.D. when they were inside. His friends turned in shock at what they saw. Fargo in a white t-shirt, light blue boxer shorts, and black socks being shoved by a man holding a gun to his head. He was scraped up and bruised and there was a tight gag around his mouth and a deep black blindfold covering his eyes. "Back off!", said one of the men to the security guards as he pushed the gun harder into Fargos head. There were 2 men and one woman in black military type gear, the leader wore business attire. "Now drop your weapons!". The guards did so when Jo nodded. When she saw Fargo she was beyond shaken, everyone was. Not to mention furious. Zane and Henry stood with Allison and Jack behind Jo. "Now if any of you move the director here is going to be tasting metal. I brought my handy little tazer along to ensure that.", the obvious leader said. "Why are you doing this!? What do you want?", said Jack angrily. "They want all of G.Ds data and files.", said Zane. "And if I had to guess...I'd say they work for Beverly Barlowe.", said Jack stepping forward a bit. "You're very intuitive sheriff. But she wasnt willing to go as far as we were to get the information we desire. And I think I saw you move sheriff.", said the man as he shoved the tazer into Fargos upper back. Fargo arched his back in pain and his face showed suffering. He breathed heavily as he dropped to his knees. The man just laughed as he watched him suffer. His hair was silver but he looked to be in his late 30s. Him and his team shoved Fargo along through G.D. to the elevator and continued to Fargos office. "Why are they going up there.", asked Jo out loud curious and terrified. "Well if Fargo gives them the passwords and codes they can access a lot of info from his computer.", said Henry. Fargo and them came into view up in the office. They pushed him into a chair and faced him near the window where everyone had a clear view. The blindfold and gag were still inhibiting his sight and speech. Jo ushered the few scientists out the front entrance. Jack, Henry, Allison, Zane, and Jo remained. They stood on the main floor watching Fargo and the unnamed bad guys. "Ok I called the D.O.D.. They said were on our own. Were on lockdown and in the end...the data is more valuable then Fargo to them.", Allison said upset and worried. "We've got to do something.", Jack said looking at his team of friends that hadnt failed him yet. Suddenly the blindfold and gag were ripped off. "Tell me your computer passcode.", said the man. "No?", Fargo said eyebrows raised. "Wrong answer.", he said jamming the hand held tazer into Fargos torso. His friends watched as he threw his head back and writhed in pain. They all cringed and wished there was something they could do. "Why don't we try giving them a fake file? Load it with useless information.", suggested Henry. "Yea that could work! I can encase the file with the G.D. access panel so it looks legit.", said Zane eagerly. The electricity coursed through his veins once more as Fargo still refused to give his passcode. The woman tried to get into his computer through backdoors. A punch came his way and he knew ducking would be useless. The prickly ropes around his wrists were tight and each ankle was tied to a chair leg. The frustrated punch from the man was so hard it knocked the chair over bringing Fargo with it. He was dazed for a second and his whole body ached. One of the other men grabbed the chair tipping it back on all four of its legs. His friends watched from down below with horror. Allison was crying silently and Jo wasnt far behind. Jack was so angry he wanted rip their heads off for what they were doing. Henry and Zane were focusing on creating the fake file. "This isn't going to end well for you anyway so why do you care!?", yelled the man. Fargos lip bled as he spit at the man in front of him. Rage filled the man as he punched his gut hard and tazed him again. Down below they couldn't believe their eyes. Jo wanted to yell at Zane and Henry to tell them to hurry but she knew they were working as fast as they could. The man called from Fargos PDA as Allisons buzzed. She picked it up as she looked the man she'd very much like to see dead in the eye. "Do you have what I want Ms. Blake? As you can see ive given you a good view of your friend so you an be properly motivated to work quickly. ". "Were working on it!", she said angry. Jack spoke into the PDA, "I swear to all that is holy im gonna shoot you.", Jack said looking at the man who didnt seem to care what the sheriff had to say as he hung up the phone. Jack, Allison and Jo turned to Henry and Zane. "Ok weve got it. And it's sent...now.", said Zane. They looked up to the man and gave him the signal that said the message had been sent. "Looks like your friends came through. Unfortunately that means you and I are gonna be departing. Let's have a proper sendoff.", said the man as he punched Fargo hard on his upper cheek knocking the chair over once again. He left him laying there as he kicked him hard in the ribs over and over. "Is there a breeze in here?", said Fargo trying to keep sane. "Haha very funny. Maybe you'll feel this.", the man said as he tazed him for the zillionth time. Fargo gasped as he tried desperately to catch his breath. Everyone including the man wondered why he hadnt passed out yet. One of the other men had set up a laptop for the incoming message. He typed for a couple minutes then spoke up. "Uhh sir? The file they sent is fake. They tried to encase the file with the G.D. access panel to trick us but our sensory curcuit output detected it.". The man looked down and shook his head as he laughed. He now noticed the intercom system on the wall and pushed the button. "Do you think im a fool!? This action will not go UNPUNISHED. Oh and...you're time has now been cut. You have 10 hours, USE IT WISELY!", He said as he stepped back and threw a vase that sat on the counter against the wall. Fargo flinched. He was now sitting upright again in the chair thanks to one of the men who began to get tired of picking him up. He felt like crying but was to tired. His mouth hung open and his sight was blurry. "What did he mean punishment?", Jo asked already knowing the answer. They watched in disbelief as the man pulled out a sharp blade. As out of it as he was Fargo clenched his teeth and screamed out in pain when the blade stabbed his thigh. "Oh my gosh!", Allison said watching Fargo be tortured with tears blurring her vision. Zane ran a hand down his face. Henry paced the floor trying to come up with a plan. "What are we gonna do?", Jo said with little hope. "Well we can't let the data fall into their hands but were also not going to let them kill Fargo.", said Allison seriously. "Looks like they already are.", said Zane. Everyone but Fargo in the office were turned looking at the computer trying to find a back door. "Wait!", Jack said to the group as he looked towards Fargo. Fargo looked at him. "I think he's trying to say something.", said Allison. He weakly motioned to the window. "No Fargo.", mouthed Jack as he shook his head. Fargo nodded looking determined. "Hes gonna jump through the window.", Jack said. Fargo looked back at the group in the office who were still distracted. He looked at Jack and nodded as Jack drew the gun on his calf aiming towards the group. Jo did the same. Just as Fargo pushed off the ground the man turned and pulled his gun. Fargo went head first through the huge window. Glass shattered and shots wrang through the air. All four people in the office dropped in seconds. Fargos body hit the floor still attached to the sturdy chair. He was unconcious surrounded by broken glass. His hair was wet with blood and there wasnt a place on his body that wasn't bruised. The blade remained in his thigh. "Fargo!", said Henry. Everyone stood shocked before simultaneously running towards their friend. Allison looked at him checking his pulse and breathing. Everyone watched anxiously. Zane and Henry untied the ropes around his ankles and wrists. As his body fell free from the chair Jo laid him down softly as she put his head in her lap. This all happened in a matter of seconds. As Allison was trying not to panic she continued to check his vitals. Her eyes widened as she felt a wet warm spot forming on Fargos upper sleeve. "Hes been shot in the arm. Let's get him to the infirmary come on!", said Allison afraid. Jack carefully but quickly picked up Fargo as they all rushed to the infirmary. The building was still empty so it was up to Allison to save their friend. They finally got there as Jack put Fargo on the closest bed. Henry helped Allison move the bed under the portable medical computer scanner. They scanned the screen that told them what was happening internally. "Ok lets get Fargo on immediate blood transfusions and into surgery!", said Allison to the others. Zane and Henry assisted Allison during the surgery that lasted more than 7 hours. Jo and Jack both watched from the observing room above. When it was finished the three of them plopped down for a rest into nearby chairs. "Well?", asked Jo eagerly. "It was rough. The gunshot wound caused a lot of blood loss. Not to mention the stab wound in Fargos thigh, multiple small breaks and fractures, broken jaw, five broken ribs, and minor scrapes and bruises. He also has some pretty serious rope burns on his ankles and wrists. He's all bandaged up though now and resting. Wanna help me move him out here so we can keep an eye on him?", said Allison looking tired. Jack nodded and followed her to the operating room. Jo, Zane and Henry waited as Allison and Jack rolled the bed out into the infirmary. G.D. was shut down for the day and the authorities had long came for the fugitives. Everyone sat around the bed talking and watching over Fargo. He was hard to look at actually. Scrapes and bruises, bandages and broken bones. Wires, tubes and monitors. His arm was in a sling, his upper leg was in a cast, his torso was wrapped, his face was bloodied and bruised, his hair was all ruffled up and there were stitches right at his hairline where he jumped through the window. Not to mention he was pale and looked past exhausted. They looked at him with huge pangs of sympathy and sorrow. "He didn't deserve this. Poor Fargo. He looks like he fell off a cliff and then was used as a human punching bag.", said Henry. They nodded and kind of winced at that, mostly because it was true. The groups attention went to Fargo as he began to stir. "Fargo?", said Allison. When he opened his eyes he put his somewhat good arm in front of his face. "No please stop!", he said weakly and visibly terrified. "Fargo its ok its ok your safe. It's just us.", said Jo as calm and softly as possible. He let his arm fall and sighed in relief. "Sorry.", Fargo said. "You have nothing to be sorry for. I've never seen anything so brave and selfless. You saved G.D. and probably our lives. Thank you. And don't try to move much ok, you've been pretty badly beaten.", said Allison. Fargo nodded and smiled as Allison grabbed his hand. "It was pretty James Bond.", he said with a weak chuckle. The group laughed and were relieved to see the Fargo they loved. "Oh and we got the guys. No data was lost, or lives so the D.O.D is satisfied. But I think were more concerned about how your doing Fargo, do you wanna talk?", said Jack. Fargo looked down and ran a hand through his hair. "Umm...I don't know.", said Fargo with a straight face. They looked at each other with concern then back at Fargo. Fargo saw their faces, "It'll be alright. Just need a little time.", he said as he laid his head on the pillow. Their looks of concern faded a little and they sunk back into their chairs. Fargos eyelids grew heavy as he gave into sleep. "Good night Fargo", Zane said as he patted his leg. "Sweet dreams.", said Jo sweetly as she kissed him on the forehead. He slept through the day until sunset when Allison woke him up to eat something. His mood got better when he saw his friends that were yet to leave his side. They laughed and talked for hours. Through the week his friends visited him often. It took 3 weeks before he was aloud to go home. Henry, Jack, Jo, Zane and Allison who was already there all met Fargo at the infirmary. He had to use a wheelchair which he really didn't want to use. "Ok fine. If you want we can just use it until we get to Jacks jeep, then you can use this high tech cane. And you always have one of us to lean on.", said Allison sweetly. Fargo smiled and thanked her a lot. Allison took his arm and helped him from the bed to the wheelchair. Fargos face contorted with pain. "Sorry Fargo.", said Allison sympathetically. He sighed and smiled. "Not your fault.", he replied. Jo pushed him through G.D. and to the front where Jacks jeep sat. Jack helped him into the passenger seat slowly and not painlessly. They drove to Cafè Diem and sat at their usual table. Fargo was still very obviously weak but was in a surprisingly good mood. They laughed and talked for hours. "Im glad to see you feeling so much better. I know how hard it's been but I hope we can make it easier.", said Allison as she squeezed his hand. "I couldn't have done it without you guys, quite literally. And im just happy to be here with you guys talking and eating. So..thanks.", Fargo said looking down a little. The group looked at each and smiled big. "No Fargo, thank you. To G.D.'s director, and it's hero!", said Henry raising his glass. Cafè Diem erupted with claps and cheers. There was toast after toast from friends and colleagues and Fargo beamed with happiness. His friends could tell how drained he was so Henry suggested that they headed home. They had to all take Jacks jeep as they headed to Fargos house. He was exhausted and fell asleep in the passenger seat. "Wow he looks exhausted. Were almost there thank goodness. He needs rest.", said Jo. They finally arrived and Fargos head still leaned against the window. Jack shook him a little. Fargo woke up and rubbed his eyes. "Sorry. Just dozed off I guess.". He walked to the door leaning on the cane with one arm and a little on Jack with the other. He would've felt a little silly if he wasnt so busy being exhausted. Fargo plopped happily onto his living room couch. "Oh yea thats nice.", said Fargo with a chuckle and a sigh. They all laughed. He really looked drained so they werent surprised when he closed his eyes right away. Before leaving Jo layed out a bowl, a spoon, and a cereal box along with some pain medication, vitamins, and iron supplements for his Anemia. Zane threw a blanket on him and Allison took off his shoes. Jack turned on the fireplace and Henry turned off the lights as they walked out the door. "I have Martha and a security guard coming in a few minutes to watch the house in case anything happens. Henry and I are gonna come by tommorow to put in a new security system that is impenetrable.", said Zane. They waited there until the security guard and Martha showed up. As they drove home they all worried about Fargo. They knew how strong he was but not many people go through something so physicaly and emotionally traumatic. They knew they would be there for him to lean on and would all help him get back on his feet. It was a long and painful recovery. Fargo had nightmeres for weeks and was constantly feeling weak and exhausted. All the different injuries took their own long and painful time healing. The new very flawless security system at Fargos house was installed by Zane and Henry personally. Jo, Jack, Zane, Allison and Henry all kept Fargo company as he healed. They were there for him like always and tried to keep a smile on their face for him. But for a while it was hard not to be haunted by the terrifying memory of that day. Though they knew it would fade with time like Fargo said. Eventually he was able to return to work and was practically giddy to do so. It was all smiles that night at Cafè Diem and they all finally felt at ease. Vincent opened some champagne and everyone laughed and talked and congratulated Fargo. Though he still used a cane he was almost totally healed. His body would hurt in some places for the rest of his life but he was becoming used to it. And maybe the physical scars would never go away, but because of his friends, the ones inside were soon gone forever.
