Chapter 28
Greetings readers! I hope that all of you enjoyed the previous chapter! First of, I want to thank the guest reviewer for your supportive review! Thank you for your support!
Responding to PerseusJackson's review, I am glad that you like this style of writing. I hope that you enjoy this chapter as well! Thank you for your continued support!
Answering SonGoku76's review, I know that I made it seem like there will be a battle at the end of the previous chapter, but I decided not to, you know just for mixing things up :) I hope you enjoy this chapter as well! Thank you for your continued support!
Responding to Achilles' review, I am glad that you liked this chapter. And yes, it seems like we're in the middle of another wave so I hope all of you are safe! Thank you for your continued support!
In response to John's review, I totally get how you are feeling. Including this chapter, this story probably only has three chapters left and that's it, it'll be the end of a comparatively long journey. But I am glad that you are excited for the next two that will follow. Thank you for your continued support!
Responding to hawkeyestratos1996's review, Ultra Instinct sounds like a good idea. Maybe, I will play around that idea a bit and use it as an inspiration for something more original in my final story. Thank you for the input and thank you for your continued support!
In response to IneCNal9886's review, I am glad that you liked the emotional depth that I have tried to incorporate into this story. The Calypso Arc is honestly my favourite because in my opinion, that's the arc that humanized Percy and made him seem more like a human and less like a robotic overpowered machine. However, as compensation for the heartbreak in that arc, the next story will have a lot of heartwarming moments between Percy and Athena. So stay turned! Thank you for your support!
Responding to Okoh's review, you perfectly worded what I was trying to portray in the previous chapter. I have tried to show Percy almost completely assimilated into Olympus. Also, I haven't named any of the banes of the minor gods or haven't even shown them on screen (on page?) because I don't have any names for them. It's just a little add-on to make the fight a bit more even. Thank you for your continued support!
Referring to Gabe1234's review, I am thrilled that you liked the previous chapter. I am also happy that you like the direction this story is taking. Answering your question, yes, I will be taking this story to canon but I am not sure whether it will include the Second Gigantomachy. However, I definitely will be taking this story to canon at least until the end of The Last Olympian. I will give a clear and detailed answer once this story is over! I hope you enjoy this chapter as well! Thank you for your support!
In response to ItsYaBoi325's review, I am glad that you liked the previous chapter. I had actually planned a small battle sequence but I then decided not to include because I thought that it's better to let this chapter handle all the action. I hope the action in this one compensates for the lack of action in the previous one :) Thank you for your continued support!
Answering ShadowThanatos' review, I know that it has been a long time since you started following this story and it means a lot to me that so many of you are still with me in this journey. It's totally fine! I am really grateful that you and all the other reviewers take the time to just interact with me. I have loved every part of this process. Whether it's writing the story, responding to reviews or planning ahead for my next ones and I plan to maintain this uniformity in quality to the very end of the last story.
Honestly, I don't know if I will have any ideas left once I finish this trilogy because I have practically used every possible inspiration for this behemoth trilogy that I have planned. Maybe I'll try my hand at a few unconnected one-shots while scouring for new ideas but that's a bridge that we'll cross later. For now, my focus is on making this trilogy as good as possible. Thank you for the compliments and thank you for your continued support!
In response to Ryan Fowler's review, to be honest, I got a bit emotional after reading this review, I mean the fact that you liked this story enough to join fanfiction really tells me that all that effort has payed off. And the fact that this story cheers you up makes me even happier. That's one of the greatest joys of writing. I am really glad that I could cheer you up and thank you for your continued support!
Responding to Icefire99's review, I am stoked that you liked the previous chapter. I understand what you're saying, it just feels better to read about a more positive approach to the Olympians. Of course, I am not taking a shot at anyone but I personally like stories where the gods are good more than the ones where the gods are bad. However, I have also read amazing stories portraying the gods in a negative light.
Trust me, the pleasure has been mine. This has been a very memorable experience for me as well and I hope to successfully engage you to this, or possibly an even greater extent in the next two stories. I will definitely do my best to give all of you something that you would like to read! Thank you for your continued support!
All credit for the characters goes exclusively to Rick Riordan.
Unlike the rest of the Olympian forces, Percy materialised a few hundred feet above the ground, which was because he, Athena and Ares had planned a surprise pre-emptive first strike. If this strike worked, they would be able to take out two gigantes at the very start of the battle, giving them a great advantage against the enemy forces.
A second later, two SKEANs materialised in his hands and he hefted them onto his shoulders, preparing them in a launching position. He sent the mental message to Athena and Ares and was waiting for them to execute the first step of their plan.
Hundreds of feet below, as soon as they materialised, Athena and Ares received the message and ordered Artemis and Apollo to notch their arrows. Ares took a deep breath and roared out a war cry.
"FOR OLYMPUS!" Ares bellowed with his arms stretched out.
Instantly, a blood red barrier covered all the Olympian forces. The assembled gigantes seemed confused when, in the blink of an eye, two SKEANs zipped through the air and struck against the armoured torsos of Otis and Ephialtes. Lazily, a sonic boom followed the missiles.
The resulting shockwave blew Otis and Ephialtes into pieces, splattering ichor everywhere. The two successive shockwaves that followed the initial one caused all the gigantes to lose their balance.
A moment later, the blood red barrier went down and one golden arrow and one silver arrow struck the half decapitated heads of Otis and Ephialtes, causing their different body parts to dissolve into masses of reptilian skin and grapevines.
Not willing to give their banes any respite, the gods and the heroes dashed towards their dazed opponents. Most of the gigantes were able to block the strikes, but a few of them were not fast enough to dodge and were impaled or slashed. The battle had begun and it had been begun firmly in favour of the Olympian forces.
Once he poured two large jars of Nectar over his sprained shoulders and ate two large squares of Ambrosia, Percy felt the slight numbness leave his upper extremities. He flexed his arms a bit before descending upon the engaged gigantes.
He saw that Polybotes was fighting his father and decided to attack him first. He sent a shockwave at the unsuspecting gigas, which propelled Polybotes away. However, to the gigas' credit, he quickly recovered and managed to block a strike from Poseidon's trident.
Unfortunately for him, he could not block the incoming twin slash from Percy and the result of that were two deep gashes along his neck. He was pushed back a few feet when he was kicked simultaneously by both father and son. He came to a halt and murderously glared at both Poseidon and Percy.
"This must be my lucky day. My brother Thoon has gifted me with the opportunity of obliterating both my bane and his spawn." Polybotes declared with a cruel laugh.
"I don't have time for chit-chat, Uglybotes. After all, I plan to kill the rest of your brethren as well. Now be a good boy and die without making too much of a fuss." Percy taunted.
"Your taunts will not work this time, godling. I have trained every day for the past two years with the sole purpose of harvesting your ichor. Your tricks will not catch me off-guard this time." Polybotes darkly declared.
"Big words from a fool about to die." Poseidon stated with a predatory smirk that was identical to Percy's.
Before Polybotes could respond, Percy sent a small shockwave at him. Polybotes launched a poisonous green beam of energy which neutralized the shockwave. Poseidon sent his own teal blue beam of energy at the gigas. Polybotes deflected the beam with his trident and clashed with father and son.
Even though Polybotes remarkably managed to momentarily hold his ground against the deadly duo of hydrokinesis masters, it became aptly clear that he was being pushed back. While the duel had just started, he kept losing so much ground that Gaia decided to intervene.
Dozens of stone pillars were launched in Percy's direction but all of them were destroyed by a radial blast of energy from Poseidon.
"You will not touch my son, Gaia, not while I am here." Poseidon fiercely declared with his eyes darkening in determination.
Percy nodded at his father in thanks and launched a large shockwave at Polybotes. The gigas tried to neutralize it but he underestimated its strength and was struck when it overpowered his energy beam.
Percy decided that he was tired of dilly-dallying and unleashed his full potential upon Polybotes. His father occasionally struck Polybotes but constantly cleared out the earthen pillars and fists heading his way, something that allowed him to focus on pummelling the giant.
He observed that Polybotes had gotten stronger and more skilled but he himself had not lazed around. He had spent most of the past four years in honing his skill, in improving his strength, in providing more finesse to his elemental abilities and had taken his speed, endurance and agility to unprecedented levels. Of course, Polybotes still possessed the advantage in strength but that was a grossly inadequate exchange.
He slashed, feinted and impaled the gigas without any fear and without picking up a single injury. The gigas tried his best but admittedly, he was far too slow and hopelessly outmatched in agility as well as in endurance. By now, even the Earth Mother had given up on helping him and he bore the brunt of a brutal onslaught by father and son.
Without the Earth Mother helping him, Polybotes was struck and tossed around like a ragdoll with alternating strikes from Poseidon and Percy. Their attacks flowed in perfect synchronization and, in no time, Polybotes was on the last ropes.
Deciding to end this unfalteringly dominant display together, Percy's trident replaced his sword and simultaneously, he and his father drove their respective weapons through Polybotes' head. The gigas instantaneously dissolved into a stinking mass of seaweed, poisonous goop and reptilian skin.
"My son, you have given me so much pride that I cannot put it into words. I will not hold you back as I know you have other people to help. However, I will always have an eye on you during this. Fight bravely my boy, fight fearlessly. Your old man will destroy every earthen pillar, fist or projectile that comes in your way. You will be undeterred in your victory. Go my son, go and claim the eternal glory that you deserve." Poseidon passionately declared with fatherly love and pride saturating his eyes.
Percy beamed at his father before disappearing in a blue mist. He had already picked out his next target.
Percy know that he had to take out Alcyoneus. Even though it seemed that Hades was on the front foot, he knew that the gigas' pesky trait of being infallible in his home territory could quickly turn worrisome. This would also free up his uncle who conveniently happened to be one of the three strongest gods. However, there was one problem. He did not know how to drag Alcyoneus out of here.
Dragging him into Olympus was not a plausible plan as he was suddenly aware of and could sense a metaphysical barrier around them that prevented any divine teleportation from taking place. This meant that his pearls were useless.
Even dragging him to the sea was not an option. The gigas was far too large and he would waste too much energy in that endeavour. He had to get creative. If there was one thing Percy had learnt in the past four years. it was that everyone had more than one weakness.
He liked to call it the hidden weakness and he knew that Alcyoneus was no different. The gigas wasn't invincible. For gaining one thing, everyone had to give up something else. He knew that Alcyoneus could be single-handedly killed once he was out of his homeland. But he also knew that Alcyoneus was not infallible in all of Greece. There was another weakness and Percy intended to find that out. Not wasting any more time, he sent a large, pressurized jet of water at the unprepared gigas.
Alcyoneus was duelling with an invisible Hades when suddenly, an acute pain shot up along his neck and he skidded back a few feet. Instantly, Hades' staff slammed into his side. A moment later, he felt two deep gashes open up along his arms.
He swung around his pole to put some distance between himself and his opponents, which gave him the much-needed time to recuperate. When he saw the son of Poseidon with an infuriating smirk on his face, he roared in unrestrained anger.
"I will kill you godling. I have not forgotten our previous encounter. I will put you through unimaginable horrors, inescapable-" Alcyoneus started but he was cut off by half a dozen Celestial Bronze javelins heading his way.
In a show of skill, he managed to deflect all of them, though he failed to realise that Percy had never intended for his throws to land. Before he could react, Percy materialised below him and delivered a glowing boot to his chin.
The mini shockwave caused by the kick launched Alcyoneus into the air and Hades smashed his staff right into the centre of his face. The attack broke his nose and caused him to roughly land on the ground.
Instantly, a protective earthen dome covered him but Percy shattered it into pieces by slamming his foot and causing a tremor. When Alcyoneus emerged, all his injuries except his broken nose were healed and, in a flash, Percy realised his opponent's second hidden weakness. The gigas' invincibility only existed when he was in contact with the earth.
Percy quickly conveyed this message to his invisible uncle and together, they devised a plan.
"What's the matter gigas? It seems like mommy didn't kiss all your boo-boos. You still have an ugly blotch on your hideous face instead of a nose." Percy baited.
As expected, the gigas had become so blind with rage and hate, that he recklessly charged forward to attack Percy. In this process, he had forgotten that there was another invisible opponent that he was fighting.
Percy did not budge from his position and this gave the gigas even more incentive. But, as soon as he was a few feet in front of his desired target, Hades' staff was slammed into the back of his neck and he was forced to kneel in pain. Without wasting a moment and mustering all his divine strength, Hades slammed his staff into Alcyoneus' bent torso and the gigas shot up into the air like a missile.
However, Percy was not sitting by idly as, by then, he had already readied his ethereally glowing Celestial Bronze spear for the kill. As soon as the gigas was forced into the air, he launched the spear at him and the deadly instrument did its job. Like his brothers, Alcyoneus was obliterated into pieces and thus, Percy took his fourth kill of the day.
Courtesy of his uncle, he was protected from the resulting shockwave by a pitch-black barrier which dissolved into the shadows once the shockwave subsided.
Percy was eating a square of Ambrosia to regain some of his energy when he saw his surprisingly pleased and very much visible uncle who seemed to have a small, proud smile on his face.
"Nephew, you have done the House of Hades a favour not once but twice. As a result of that, you will be rewarded by me personally at the end of this battle." Hades sincerely promised.
"Uncle, I only carried out my duty. Besides, you did most of the work, I only delivered the killing blow. Anyone could have done that. I will take my leave now as it seems that I am needed elsewhere." Percy honestly stated before vanishing.
Hades shook his head in disbelief. For the love of Chaos, he could not find a single flaw in that man and he had tried very hard to. He had never thought it was possible for someone like this to ever exist, yet Percy seemed to throw that notion out of the window.
He looked around and noticed that a few minor gods seemed to be struggling against their banes and in a rare streak of generosity, he decided to help them out and vanished in a swirl of shadows.
Leon was proving to be very troublesome for Apollo. While the gigas himself was not that much of a challenge, he had to constantly move around in order to escape the numerous earthen projectiles that came his way and thus, he was unable to press his advantages. However, that dynamic changed as soon as Percy entered the fray.
Apollo and Leon were locked in a standstill when Percy made his entry in style by barrelling his greave-clad knee into the lion headed gigas' head. The force behind the attack propelled the gigas tens of feet away where he came to rough halt.
Leon wanted to make a declaration of his own but he was silenced when Percy sent a dozen jets of highly pressurized water at him. This gigas was faster than the rest of his brethren and managed to avoid most of the jets.
However, he temporarily faltered when a few jets hit him and he fell prey to Percy's trap. He was forced off his feet and suffered grievous injuries when the arm of a massive hurricane collided into him.
Percy launched the gigas at Hippolytus and the resulting collision sent both of them reeling. Quickly capitalizing on this opportunity, Percy materialised above them and drove his swords through their heads.
Not wasting any time, Apollo fired two golden arrows at their heads and the gigantes dissolved into masses of reptilian skin, poisonous goop and white feathers.
"Great job, cousin. Thanks to you, it seems like we have already secured the advantage early into this battle." Apollo complimented with a wide smile.
"Perce, I have arranged for the three of us to attend a play at the Olympian theater this Sunday. Apollo and I are looking forward to introduce you to some new people." Hermes mischievously suggested.
"I will attend the play Hermes, but I have no interest to be a part of your frivolous romances with the artists that will surely follow." Percy dryly and firmly replied.
"Cousin, you have to throw us a bone here. We have been trying to set you up for the past year but you always manage to slip away before we introduce you to someone." Apollo muttered.
"Apollo, Hermes, this is not the place and time to discuss my love life." Percy sternly reprimanded.
"You have been spending way too much time around Athena and Ares." Hermes commented.
Percy sighed in resignation before noticing that Hecate seemed to be struggling against her bane. He nodded at them before disappearing in a blue mist. He had work to do.
Clytius was proving to be very troublesome for Hecate. He seemed to be much more skilled and far more agile than the rest of his brethren. To make matters worse, she was forced on the defensive by being constantly attacked by the Earth Mother.
As the battle progressed, she was suddenly caught off-guard by an earthen pillar smashing into her side. As soon as she landed on the ground, she was immobilized by a set of earthen hands.
Instantly, Clytius was upon her with an intent to cleave her in half with his massive Stygian Iron broadsword, but his attack was stopped midway by a tall, muscular man with piercing sea green eyes.
In a show of his divine strength and to Clytius' utter disbelief, Percy pushed Clytius back a few feet with comparative ease. He then slammed his foot on the ground and all the hands immobilizing Hecate shattered.
Percy pushed forward with his characteristic relentless offense but this time, it was his turn to be surprised. The gigas in front of him was smaller than most of his brothers and was thus able to at least keep up with him. He was also admirably skilled in wielding his broadsword. Ultimately though, he was no match for the combined might of Percy and Hecate.
Percy and Hecate eventually gained the upper hand when Percy landed a crushing blow to Clytius by striking his ethereally glowing swords against the gigas' sides. The gigas' insides imploded and he coughed up a large amount of ichor as he fell to his knees.
Just as Hecate was about to land the final blow, a large hole opened up beneath Clytius and attempted to swallow him. Before that could happen, Hecate threw a flaming torch at him and the gigas was set alight. With a final scream of agony, Clytius dissolved into a mass of reptilian skin accompanied by a black mist.
"Thank you, Perseus. Had you not helped me, I would probably be in the process of reforming now." Hecate thanked.
"You too are family Hecate. You have helped us at critical times in this war. It is only fair that we return the favour." Percy replied.
"Come by my palace sometime Perseus. I could teach you a few special applications of the Mist." Hecate offered with a smile.
"That's very gracious of you Hecate. I shall take you up on that offer once things have settled down." Percy replied with a grateful smile.
Suddenly, the earth rumbled and five dozen giants who were eight feet tall with six arms emerged from the earth. These giants seemed to be carved out of rock and in their hands, they held boulders with pointed ends. A moment later, all of them launched the boulders at Percy.
Out of thin air, Poseidon materialised in front of his son and released a monstrous blast of divine energy at them. The beam of energy was so huge that it swallowed all the boulders before proceeding to obliterate all the rock giants.
"No one touches my son while I am here." Poseidon stated with darkened emerald green eyes.
He reflexively caught the rather large square of Ambrosia that his son threw at him. With a grateful nod, he ate the godly food before noticing that Percy seemed to be a little winded up. Without a second thought, he decided to give him a little boost of energy and shot a dim beam of sea green energy at him.
The result was instantaneous. Percy immediately felt all his fatigue and soreness go away and he felt like he was back to optimum strength. He looked at his father with a mix of curiosity and gratitude.
"I sensed that you were winded out son. So I infused a bit of my own energy into you. That should give you enough fuel to power through to the end of this battle." Poseidon replied. Percy gave his father and Hecate a final nod before taking off in the direction of Gration and Artemis.
It was business as usual for Percy as he rammed into Gration's side and then proceeded to double-team him with Artemis. All this while, Poseidon hovered near Percy as he destroyed all the earthen hurdles that the Earth Mother sent at his son.
In no time, their combined strength won out as Gration overextended his strike, which resulted in Percy driving his swords through the gigas' forehead. Promptly, Artemis impaled her hunting knife into his head and the gigas dissolved into a mass of bear pelt and reptilian skin.
"You're not half bad for a man. Perseus." Artemis complimented with a small smirk.
"Well, I learnt from the best." Percy replied with a smirk of his own.
"Then maybe you should spar with me." Artemis challenged.
"Name the place and the time Artemis. I'd never say no to a good fight." Percy stated with a proud smirk before vanishing in a blue mist.
The battle progressed for a long time and the Olympian forces had firmly gained the advantage. Along with the minor gods and with the aid of the other major gods, Hercules and Dionysus had managed to defeat almost all the banes of the minor gods with only the banes of Iris and Nike remaining.
Percy hadn't been idle himself. He had dealt with the banes of his aunts and had then moved to help Aphrodite. With the goddess of love who was surprisingly proving to be a fierce force to be reckoned during battle, he had quickly overwhelmed the female gigas and had successfully sent her on a one-way trip to Tartarus.
Aphrodite gave him a quick hug as a thanks and he gave her a wide smile. After that, he noticed that Ares and Hephaestus were on the verge of victory and he immediately joined the battle.
His swords were replaced by his spear as he took aim at the gigas. He used his left arm to aim and his right arm to throw the spear. His stance was the perfect position to transfer all his strength to the spear and his jaw was set in concentration as his brilliant sea green eyes followed the fast-paced battle. Finally, he found the right spot and with a mighty throw, he launched his spear at the gigas.
The spear precisely passed through the side of Mimas' head and the gigas fell to his knees as his eyes rolled over. To wrap things up, Ares swiftly decapitated the fallen gigas and like the rest of his siblings, he dissolved into a mass of reptilian skin and scraps of Celestial Bronze. It was only then that Percy noticed that he had never encountered Ares' bane. He materialised near Ares and questioned him
"Ares, where is your bane?" Percy quizzed.
"Well, according to the gigas I fought, apparently, my bane refused to fight me because he is a pacifist." Ares replied.
"I guess that makes some sense. You are the God of War, so if your bane is supposed to be your antithesis, that also means that he's an antithesis to war, which is peace." Percy commented.
"Seems like he was too much if coward to fight me. Eh, I will settle for pummelling these other fools. It looks like the two punks that are my half-brothers could use some help. Seriously, they are not even fighting at this point. They're just letting the gods do all the work and then shooting arrows. I'll have a chat with them later on." Ares stated with a bloodthirsty smirk before disappearing in a puff of red smoke.
"Sometimes I can't help but feel that he likes violence way too much for his own good." Percy dryly stated.
"Trust me, this is barely the tip of the iceberg." Hephaestus muttered. Percy chuckled at the forge god's tone before giving him a nod and disappearing to deal with the penultimate gigas on his checklist.
Athena had pushed her bane into a corner. Unlike their previous encounter where she and Percy had caught him by surprise and had made quick work of him, this time, her bane had put up quite the fight.
He was smaller and not as strong as his bigger brethren. But he was also surprisingly fast and agile. She also had to grudgingly admit that he was very skilled. He wielded his spear with a precision that rivalled her own. However, she had the technical finesse that made her the best spear wielder in the world.
Thus, it was no surprise to her when her opponent slightly overextended himself and exposed his side. She slammed Aegis into his side and when he momentarily lost balance, she impaled her bane's head by driving her spear through it.
Almost as if telepathically coordinated, Percy showed up and with a swipe of his swords, decapitated the impaled gigas who dissolved into a mass of reptilian skin and owl feathers. As she observed the dashing young prince in front of her, her thoughts wandered a bit.
While Percy and even Ares were strong contenders for the title of being the best spear wielder, neither of them used the spear as their primary weapon. Thus, in all their spars in which they had used spears, it had always been Athena who had come out victorious.
Of course, Percy always gave her a very strong challenge with his superior strength, supreme durability and a battle speed that surprisingly matched her own, but her superior agility combined with her extensive experience ultimately triumphed. In the fights he used his swords though, he was a far, far more dangerous opponent.
Even though Athena was arguably the strongest second-generation Olympian, she had only won half of the spars that she had engaged in with Percy.
She knew a lot about Atlas. That was partly due to him being acknowledged as the greatest spearman of all time and partly due to how much her father and his siblings loathed him.
In fact, she knew more about him than any other Titan, bar the Titan Lord himself. And everyone who had seen Percy fight would unanimously agree on one thing. That was the baffling similarity between his fighting style and Atlas'. Her aunts, father and uncles had confirmed that bit of information.
Percy pressed and pressed and pressed until his opponent either dropped down from exhaustion or made an unavoidable mistake. He was unlike any other opponent she had ever fought. Someone who was stronger than her but at the same time, was as fast as her in battle.
Someone whose endurance was so great, he was capable of consistently engaging in long battles and overcoming his opponent even if they held an advantage over him in many aspects.
Barring Artemis, none could match her in battle speed yet, Percy managed to not only keep up with her but, on some very rare instances, he even managed to outpace her. Only her millennium of battle experience had managed to offset this to a certain extent. Percy's voice broke her out of her thoughts.
"Are you alright Athena? You seemed to zone out a little." Percy questioned with worry.
"I am fine Percy. You have done a startlingly fantastic job, all the gods have done their part and even my two half-brothers have done a fairly decent job. It seems like we are on course to victory." Athena stated with a wide smile.
"Yes. It seems like this accursed war will finally end but it's better to be cautious when the Earth Mother is involved. We both know that she will not go out without a final bang." Percy soberly replied before continuing.
"However, it seems like the tide is in our favour and it seems like we will not be missing the play at the Royal Atlantean Theatre this Saturday after all." Percy ended on an optimistic note. In response, Athena gave him a soft smile.
In the year that she had spent with him, she had had the pleasure of knowing the man behind the warrior. And she had definitely liked what she had seen. He was so different from others but in a very good and endearing way. In fact, she had grown to enjoy his presence so much that, she was positively thrilled whenever he was on Olympus. Once again, her train of thought was broken by Percy.
"Athena? You zoned out once again." Percy asked with his eyebrows furrowed in worry.
Athena gave him a reassuring smile to alleviate his concerns before pointing in the direction of her father.
"Of course, I was saving him for the last. I still have to repay him for that spear injury." Percy stated with predatory smirk before disappearing in a blue mist. He was intent on destroying the King of Gigantes.
Porphyrion knew that they were losing. He had painstakingly seen all his brethren killed one by one and he had been helpless to do anything as his opponent, the mighty King of gods, had engaged him in a fierce duel.
Zeus had unleashed the wrath of the skies upon him and with his Master Bolt, he had sent bolt after bolt of sizzling and deadly lightning at him. Even though he had resistance to lightning, this was pushing it even for him.
He had actually managed to keep up with his opponent at the start and had even managed to push him back at a few instances. Unfortunately, lack of support from his mother and a gradual reduction in his form meant that he had steadily lost ground to Zeus.
Now, he was on his last legs, he was exhausted, most of his body was charred and the god in front of him showed no signs of slowing down. But the decisive blow did not come from Zeus.
Out of nowhere, a Celestial Bronze spear impaled his thick neck and Porphyrion's body went limp. Instantly, a figure in black armour materialised in front of him and broke the right side of his face with a brutal right hook.
Before Porphyrion could even cry out in pain, the figure decked him with another jaw-shattering left hook and broke the other side of his face. He could only numbly stare at the cold emerald green eyes of his attacker when said attacker forced his head up by harshly pulling his braided hair.
"Tell me gigas, how does it feel to be blindsided by a spear? Painful isn't it? This is me clearing your debt. I hope you enjoy an eternity of pain. That's all you were ever capable of achieving." Percy mocked with an infuriating smirk.
"Lord Zeus, if you could send this piece of moss back to where it's meant to be, we could end this dreadful war." Percy respectfully stated while stepping back.
"With pleasure, nephew." Zeus stated with a victorious smirk before driving one of the sizzling ends of his Master Bolt through the gigas' forehead.
Instantly, the King of the Gigantes burst into a shower of sparks leaving behind only his gargantuan spear and a mass of reptilian skin.
"Keep the spear as a spoil of war, nephew. You deserve it after the extremely impressive effort. You have achieved what no one else ever has and I, along with the rest of the gods, am proud of you." Zeus stated with a warm smile.
"I have only fulfilled my duty, Lord Zeus." Percy stated with a respectful bow.
"Now now Perseus, is that any way for a nephew to address his uncle?" Zeus rhetorically stated with a small smile.
Before Percy could reply, suddenly the earth rumbled and he heard a frantic shout from his father. A moment later, he was roughly shoved aside and he heard a loud noise as a cloud of dust was kicked up.
When the dust settled, Percy could only watch in horror as his father lay unconscious on the ground with an unrecognizable spear laying next to him.
Hey guys! So this chapter was based exclusively on Percy and his perspective during this battle. I have also tried my best to make sure that the fights aren't boring and repetitive. I have tried my best and I would like to know your opinion on it.
I know that it may seem like the gigantes are way too weak but honestly, I don't think Rick Riordan ever meant to portray them as actual challenges to the gods. They were more like henchmen to the big bad that was Gaia and I have used that. I mean they might be strong but they are much, much inferior to the gods in all other attributes.
Nonetheless, I have tried to not make the fights seem too handicapped by adding in regular interference from Gaia but, when there's a crazily overpowered Percy fighting against a gigas along with an Olympian god, it is a tad bit hard to make gigantes feel strong. I have also included a few non-battle moments to break up the monotony of the chapter.
Also, I have tried making Apollo and Hermes seem like those two really good and chill friends who are really fun to hang out with but are also really annoying due to the fact that they keep on trying to set you up with different people.
Those rock giants are Geigenes or Earthborn. They are shock troops for the Gigantes.
This chapter also brings back the warrior in Percy. You would have noticed that he's become cleaner and less brutal in all his battles except the one with Porphyrion. That was intentional. It was to show how dangerous and ruthless Percy could become if he ever held personal vendetta against someone. Even though he's mellowed, he still has the strength to dish out his revenge.
I know that Hera, Hestia and Demeter really don't have any banes. Neither do Iris, Nike or for that matter, any of the minor gods. But as I said in the headnote, it's for the sake of the plot. So just assume that a fight has taken place off-screen.
Finally, there's a cliff hanger :) I was not satisfied with handing the gods and Percy a straight up victory. So I decided to mix things up a little bit and try to bring some more excitement to this chapter.
Read and review, I hope that all of you enjoyed this chapter! Have a great day!
