"Wait-!" Marinette screamed holding out her hand desperately, trying to make him stay, stay with her, don't leave her, stay-

At the sound of his footsteps, she flinched; burying her face into her hands instinctively, Marinette sobbed weakly as he sped away, the boy heading in the opposite direction they had come from so that he wouldn't see her in return.

"…Chat Noir…" Marinette whined after his steps had vanished, raising her head, and staring at the emptiness in front of her, soaking in the silence around her, the lack of her partner. "No, no! Chat Noir! Come back!" Like on cue, she suddenly seemed to realize what happened. Marinette scrambled for the ring, clutching it to her chest tightly, ignoring when Plagg shimmered into view, the tiny Kwami already sobbing. "Chat, please!" She screeched down the tunnel, turning her head in either direction, trying to sense where he had gone. "It's not your fault; please! Just come back! Tikki, Tikki! Spots on!"

Tikki barely was able to open her mouth in protest before she was sucked into the earrings, Marinette's transformation washing over her, leaving Ladybug in her place. Ladybug's head snapped back and forth desperately, shaking quietly. "Chat Noir!" She very nearly called him on her bug phone before realizing that oh wait that won't work anymore because he's gone, he's gone-

"Chat Noir! Please!" Her phone chirped as she activated its automatic scan of the area around her; blueprints and 3D models decorating her screen. She struggled to keep her head clear enough to remember the path they had took into the sewers, trying to figure out which way he would most likely try to leave, and she even tried scanning for nearby biorhythms, but… oh, no, he was going to get away, he was going to flee, she was never going to find him ever again if he got away, she had to-

"Plagg!" Ladybug said immediately, turning to the left even as she ran, because that was the way Chat Noir went, right? the Kwami of Destruction flying right beside her ear, tears streaking down his cheeks, too, and stained across his eyes. "Tell me-tell me Chat Noir's identity, please! I have to know, so I can find him, and-and-"

Plagg opened his mouth, but all that came out were green bubbles. The sorrow and regret in his eyes would've broken Ladybug's heart, if it wasn't already shattered. "I'm… I'm sorry, Ladybug, but… but I'm not allowed to- I can't-"

"Chat Noir! Come back!" Ladybug interrupted with a howl, facing straight ahead as she did her best to ignore Plagg's words and eyes but they flashed in her mind, right next to the heartbroken expression Chat Noir had fixed her with the entire time she was yelling at him earlier, but… she hadn't looked him in the eyes afterwards. After Uncanny Valley… after the Cataclysm… she had ignored him. She had avoided his gaze, no matter how much he begged and tried to comfort her, she hadn't looked at him. She hadn't… the last words he said to her was that he couldn't hurt her. He wouldn't hurt her, wouldn't risk it again wouldn't even try-

"The best moments I have are the moments when I'm with you-" He had said that. He had. Two months ago, yes, but he had. And he had meant every word of it, because Chat Noir was nothing if not honest, this one time excluded.

The best moments. The best time of his life. He left it all behind. All because he thought she didn't want him-

But she had been right. He couldn't do that! He couldn't betray her trust, not without consequences! Not without her loosing her faith and trust in him. Despite all her warnings and repeating over and over and over again that the call was for emergencies only she never actually thought that he would ever actually not use it or not use it seriously. She never thought-

He would've been able to win her trust back so easily, she knew that, so why…?

Why. Why why whywhywhywhy-

She didn't mean for him to go so extreme, he couldn't- he couldn't…

He didn't even think it through! He just immediately chose to go through with it, he didn't try to discuss it with her, he just acted on impulse like always. But that's what she liked about him! He might've been simple and straightforward, but he was logically smart. What he lacked in common sense and wordly wisdom he more of made up for it with his own encyclopedic knowledge, so…

"Chat Noir!" Ladybug screeched again, but she knew it was pointless.

He… he wasn't coming back. No matter how much she screamed and shouted and ran… she wouldn't find him. Not if he didn't want to be found. She had learned that ages ago. When they first started, not even a year ago. She hadn't even known him a year, and he was already…

She would never...

Ladybug sunk to the floor, arms resting on her knees, sobbing bitterly into her arms. Chat Noir was gone.

She would never get him back ever again.
