This is from Sonic Boom; Season 1 Episode 1

(:)

"Tails!" Sonic screeched, eyes widening as he watched the plane crash, his heart thumping loudly in his chest. There was no sign of anything – or anyone – in the sky, aside from clouds, but ordinarily he would see Tails hovering down, using his tails as helicopters. Which meant that Tails was still stuck in the Tornado. "No!"

Then, Sonic did what he did best. He ran. He didn't run towards the danger, as normal, but away. Away from everything, away from Eggman. He went to Tails. He ran as fast as he could, ignoring everything but the desperate need to help his friend, to save his friend.

If he wasn't paying such close attention, Sonic was fairly certain he would've overstepped his bounds and perhaps run straight back to the Unnamed Village. Yet, for once, he did pay attention, and he stopped besides the plane, diving into the wreckage.

The cockpit had collapsed around Tails' legs, and Sonic choked in horror as he assessed the damage, glancing around the Tornado desperately. It didn't look like it was going to explode like last time, so Sonic was free to safely – as if that mattered while Tails was in danger – clamber on top of the rocket, pulling desperately at the metal pressing down on Tails. With any luck, he wouldn't need to amputate Tails' legs – the thought of amputating… oh gosh, oh gosh, he couldn't do that to his own best friend, he couldn't… even if that saved his life, he didn't know if he could – and was able to just pull him free. And even if he wasn't, he'd rather run and grab Knuckles to try, then have to… to…

Sonic gasped in surprise as the cockpit cover came free in his hands, but he was quick to recover and settle the metal off to the side, leaning over to yank Tails out of the ship as well. He didn't climb too far out of the ship before resting Tails on the ground, pressing his ear against Tails' chest.

He found himself holding his breath for several heart wrenching seconds, listening intently for a pulse. At the sound of the heartbeat, Sonic relaxed and released a shuddered breath of relief. Sitting up, Sonic took a moment to steady himself before reaching for Tails. It had been slow and weak, but had been a heartbeat nonetheless. Sonic would fix Tails right up. (He had fixed his own battle wounds more times then he could count, or Tails had tended Sonic's when he wasn't fully coherent. He never wanted it to come to this, but Sonic supposed it was time to pay his best friend back.)

"Keep resting, pal." Sonic told his friend, lifting him up carefully. "I'll get you home." He shook his head at Tails. "I promise I'll never let anything like this happen to you again."

Once more, he ran. He gritted his teeth together and held Tails close, blocking out everything except the desperate need to protect. Save. Help. Faster and faster he went, barely managing to dodge tress on the way back to Tails' house. He was acutely aware that moving Tails was dangerous, but leaving him be while he went to catch help was even more so. He couldn't just sit there and do nothing. That wasn't in his job description. Rings, it wasn't even in his life description.

"Hold on, Tails." Sonic hissed as he exited the forest floor, landing him on the outskirts of the Unnamed Village. Tails' house was on the opposite side of the town, but it would take him no time at all to reach it. "I'll get you home."

People stumbled to the side as he burst past them, a few staring in confusion as the blue blur passed them. They probably wondered what was going on to make Sonic be in such a hurry, but they weren't going to try to stop him while he was in such a hurry. There would be questions later, questions Sonic wished he didn't have to answer, but that wasn't his priority right now. His priority was getting Tails to safety.

And after that was done? What was his priority then?

Well, make sure Tails stayed safe. Stayed out of danger. It was the only way to ensure that Tails didn't… that this didn't…

Tails wasn't just his sidekick. Tails was his best friend. And best friends don't let each other get hurt.
