SUMMARY: Katsuki's sleep-deprived days just started and on the first night, he encountered someone who will affect his future decisions.
A/N: I was in Dotonbori when I visited Osaka last December. It was very crowded and there were a lot of stores along the street! Decided to use actual names of the stores in the area. Of course, Google map helped me find the correct names. To be honest, I was quite amused to find that bar's name that I used here. Kinda matches the seafood theme I have in mind.
The Night Shift
Katsuki slammed the bottle of water on the table a little too hard, the plastic crinkled in his tight grip. Sweat was dripping down his face and he wiped it off with a towel, wincing when he touched the bruise on his right cheek. He shivered at the chill embracing him as his sweat-soaked T-shirt clung onto his skin. He looked up as Kubo entered the infirmary with a black T-shirt and an ice pack.
"Here, this should help ease the bruise while we wait for Kikun. I hope the shirt's not too big. That's the smallest I could find," said the man, omitting the fact that it was from one of the ladies.
Katsuki accepted the items, "You have a mean left hook."
Kubo chuckled, "And yer right hook's ain't bad, kid."
Katsuki glanced at the bruise on the man's lower left jaw. He frowned and there was a twist in his guts, "I could've hurt you pretty bad. You should've told me."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell ya about that, I got too excited about our spar."
"I could've blown your head off…" said Katsuki quietly as he lowered his gaze, his shoulder hunching forward.
Kubo sat on the bed beside the boy, their hips close but not touching, "Yeah. But it won't be yer fault. It would be an accident because I forgot to tell ya that my head's not as durable as my body. It'll be my fault."
"You're an idiot."
The man smiled, "I wouldn't deny that."
They sat in silence for a few minutes then Katsuki sniffed before wiping the back of his hand under his nose. He sat up straight, "What am I supposed to do after sunset?"
"You'll be paired with Nemuii and he's probably gonna bring you along for his nightly patrol.."
"Patrol?"
"Alright, what do we have?" asked a tall lanky man as he entered the infirmary. He had crop cut light brown hair, thin eyebrows and narrow eyes with dark green iris. The coat and name tag he wore indicated that he's the doctor they were waiting for. His name was Kikumoto Akira and his quirk accelerates cell repair and growth.
Kubo grinned, "Good evening, Kikun! Mostly bruises and minor cuts, nothing major."
The man clicked his tongue. He approached Katsuki first and grabbed his wrists without warning. Katsuki instinctively tried to pull away but Kikumoto's grip was firm, "Hold still, kid."
The man's hands began to emit a greenish glow. Katsuki relaxed a bit and he briefly wondered about a certain green-haired nerd back in Musutafu. He hoped Izuku was keeping up with his training and didn't slack off. The green glow disappeared and Kikumoto turned his attention to Kubo who already had his arms raised. The doctor roughly grabbed his wrists.
Kubo chuckled, "Excellent bedside manners, as usual, Kikun."
Kikumoto glared at him, "Shut up."
Once he was done healing Kubo he released his hold on the man's wrists. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and turned his attention to Katsuki, "I've read your medical records, if anything feels off, you tell me immediately."
"Fine," said Katsuki, irked by the man's offhand attitude.
Kikumoto nodded, "Now get out of here. I have some paperwork to do."
Kubo led Katsuki out of the room, "Don't mind him, Bakugou-kun. He's always like that but he's actually a really nice man."
Katsuki rolled his eyes, "Whatever."
"Let's go get some grub! I'm starving!"
After a quick stop at the restroom so Katsuki could change his shirt they head down to the cafeteria. The cafeteria was quiet, far different from the lively ones he remembered back in Yoichi and Musutafu. Only two tables were occupied. Utsushimi and Ito sat on one together and the other was occupied by a man in a dark hoodie who seemed to be dozing. Ito spotted them and waved them over excitedly.
"How was the spar?" asked the woman as Katsuki took a seat beside Utsushimi. Kubo had wandered off to get some food at the counter. Katsuki shrugged, "It was okay, I guess. Well… except for the part where someone forgot to tell me his head wasn't affected by his quirk."
"What happened?!"
Katsuki leaned against his chair, "I nearly blew off the idiot's head."
Both ladies gasped. They glared at Kubo as he returned to the table with two trays of food. He froze at the attention, "What?"
"You nearly got your head blown off?!"
"Ah… yeah. Hahaha…"
"It's not funny Kubo-senpai!" said Ito, her cheeks puffing.
Utsushimi nodded, "You should've considered how Bakugou-kun would fe-"
"It's fine, he already apologized," Katsuki interjected.
Kubo placed one of the trays he carried in front of Katsuki. The boy muttered his thanks and surveyed at what was on his food tray; some rice, a small bowl of miso soup, vegetable tempura and beef teriyaki, and a carton of orange juice on the side. He glanced at what Utsushimi had on her tray and he couldn't help but grimace at the pile of cakes, cream puffs, pudding and a glass of what seemed to be a strawberry smoothie. Ito noticed his expression and giggled, "Kanna-senpai has a sweet tooth! She loves her desserts!"
"Aren't girls usually… you know? Watch what they eat to maintain their figure?"
"Oh, I don't really care. If you have a quirk like mine, you could cheat a bit on your image," said the woman cheekily.
Kubo tilted his head, "Where's Susumu? Still sleeping?"
"Yeah. I checked up on him on my way, he's still knocked out."
"Nemuii's pretty knocked out himself over there," said Ito as she looked over her shoulder at the lone man dozing at the other table.
"So that's Nemuii?" asked Katsuki curiously.
"Yeah. He works the night shift with Yoruhito-san."
"Eat up, Bakugou-kun! We got a meeting in half an hour!" said Kubo.
Utsushimi got to her feet, "I'm gonna go wake Susumu-kun. I'll see you guys later. Hana-chan, make sure to wake Nemuii-kun."
"Gotcha!"
"Why is he sleeping here and not at home? Didn't you say he works the night shift?" asked Katsuki.
"Oh, he's just too lazy to get home after his shift. We have some rooms upstairs where we could rest, but there's just like, four rooms. He must've dozed off after lunch."
"His neck's gonna kill him," said Kubo amused.
"So, Bakugou-kun. Let's get to know each other!" said Ito excitedly.
Katsuki froze. He groaned internally at the sparkle in the woman's wide curious eyes. Great . He didn't like to share information about himself with people he just met.
Nemuii and Susumu covered their mouth as they yawned simultaneously. Katsuki silently admitted, the two looked comical sitting half-awake in their seat with their hair sticking up oddly. Nemuii had dark hair, with choppy bangs hanging over his forehead and blue eyes. The dark bags under his eyes stuck out against his pale skin. Nemuii slid down his chair a bit while Susumu lay his forehead down on the table.
"Rise and shine boys. Brighten up before the boss gets here," said Kubo.
The two younger men groaned, "Five more minutes."
Nemuii blinked his eyes open and he gazed around before his eyes landed on Katsuki, "Oh, you must be Bakugou Katsuki. Greetings, I'm Nemuii Kei."
"I heard."
The man yawned again, "Okay."
Uchida entered the room and he frowned at the two sleepy agents, "Stay sharp you two. This is an important meeting."
Susumu groaned as he pushed himself to sit upright while Nemuii gave a lazy salute. The two obviously struggled to stay awake. They perked up though when Utsushimi entered the meeting room with two large mugs of coffee in her hands, "I have brought the elixir of life!"
"Senpaiiiiiii!"
"An angel! You're an angel Utsushimi-san!"
Uchida rolled his eyes and took his seat beside Kubo, "How was the test?"
"Oh, Bakugo-kun was remarkable! I haven't had a good spar in a while!" said Kubo.
"That's good to hear. We can't afford to waste any more money on this program."
Katsuki raised his chin challengingly, "Oh, I'll make sure I'm worth the money."
Uchida smirked but didn't say anything as he took out his laptop. He started doing work and talked with Kubo quietly. Katsuki glared at the man for a few more moments before diverting his attention to everyone else. The two sleep-deprived agents seemed more alert now that they have caffeine in their system.
Susumu was helping Utsushimi set up the projector and Ito was going through some files. Nemuii moved to sit beside Katsuki, "So, how long are you gonna be awake?"
"Three nights."
"Oof, good luck, man. Not being able to sleep sucks," said the man before taking a sip from his mug.
"Your quirk puts people to sleep, right? How does that work?"
Nemuii out his mug down, and pulled out a flute from his pocket, "I serenade people to sleep. I can put people to sleep immediately as long as they are within a fifty-meter radius. The duration of sleep depends on what tune I play. Like how the big boss can keep you awake for days, I can put you to sleep for days."
"So, your quirks are opposites."
"You could say so. Though I do wish I could put myself to sleep for days. I really need some sleep, man."
Katsuki raised a brow, "Does your quirk affect your sleep?"
"Nah, I'm just not built to work the night shift, man. Ahh, just my damn luck I got the night shift. Hey, Kubo, can we swap shifts?"
Uchida spoke up before Kubo could reply, "No. You don't have the skills to do office work. That's why you get the night patrols."
"About that, why do you go on patrols at night? Isn't that hero duty?" asked Katsuki.
"Heroes aren't the only one who walk the streets, kid. We have our agents out there gathering intel as well. Where do you think the heroes and police get their info from?"
"HPSC agents work behind the scenes. We do a lot more than managing heroes and the public. We have a small number of specially trained agents who do dangerous missions that heroes can't go to. Nemuii may not seem like anyone special, he doesn't stand out, but he's trained in espionage. He's one of our best spies and he's been gathering reliable information for a few years now."
Nemuii chuckled, "Aww, I'm flattered, Kubo."
"He's going to show you how he does his work," said Uchida. He glanced at Nemuii, "None of us knows how he does it, but he's always able to gather something when he goes out."
"Ah, I see everyone is here," said Imawa as he entered the room.
"Good evening, sir!" said Ito.
Everyone tensed when Detective Tanuma and a young officer entered the room as well. The policemen stood beside Imawa as they were introduced, "I'm sure you're already familiar with Detective Tanuma. This is his associate, Kurosawa Makoto."
Tanuma bowed slightly, "Thank you for having us."
"Alright, let's not waste any more time. Kubo, what have you found out from the surveillance footage?"
"Unfortunately, there's not much, sir. We can confirm that he indeed has a quirk that could disable Bakugou's quirk restraining gloves but that's all there is. He came in through the window on the sixth floor where Bakugou was. We assumed he must've jumped from the nearby building's roof, which is an estimated 30 meters gap."
"That's not humanly possible," said Susumu.
"True but we know this man, for an unknown reason, has multiple quirks. We went to the scene and couldn't find anything useful to us. Nothing that could help us determine his identity. He's pretty much still a mystery to us."
"Where did you find this guy?" asked Nemuii.
"According to the sighting reports; Taisho, Naniwa, Namba and then the encounter last night happened at Building WX in Chuo. The police received intel that there were some shady people doing business down by the river at a shipping company in Tsurumachi. When they ambushed the group, everyone scattered and those who were able chased the main suspect all the way into the city on foot."
"From Taisho to Chuo… he moves fast," said Nemuii thoughtfully.
"This villain shows he's got the stamina and speed to travel for a long distance," said Utsushimi un.
"Is it possible that he's a human experiment?" asked Susumu uncomfortably.
"There is a possibility. It's not the first time we've heard of humans who went through harsh procedures to strengthen their quirks or activate their innate quirks by force. Experiments involving implanting multiple quirks is not something we could rule out… There are those who have special quirks out there, unregistered, that could manipulate other people's quirk," said Uchida.
Katsuki frowned as he sat quietly and listened to them. Kurosawa finally took notice of him, "Hey, why is there a civilian in here?"
"Ah, he's our newest trainee," said Uchida bluntly.
"T-trainee? But he's just a kid!"
Katsuki grit his teeth and was about to share his thoughts when Kubo stopped him. The man stood up, "He's not just a kid . He's what you could say one of those kids in the express class in schools. He's very talented and we're training him to be a Pro Hero."
Kurosawa frowned, "But this case is-"
"Calm down, Kurosawa. He's a witness and he fought against the suspect last night," said Takeda.
The young officer's eyes widened, "He fought with the villain?!"
"And he didn't get a scratch on him," said Kubo proudly.
"Though, I wasn't informed that he would be here," said Takeda as he glanced at Imawa.
Imawa smiled, "Ah, I must have forgotten. I apologise. Anyway, let's continue."
Once the meeting ended and everyone had left for their own business. Nemuii pulled Katsuki along with him, the boy stumbling on his feet, "Oi! Let go! I can walk on my own!"
"Alright, be quick," said the man as he briskly headed for the elevator.
"What's the hurry?"
The man rubbed his head, "My shift's gonna start soon and I wanna catch a nap before we head out. You should take a rest and call your parents to check in on them."
"I can't sleep."
Nemuii looked over his shoulder, "I know but who says you can't lie down and daydream?"
Katsuki didn't want to admit it but he's already feeling the day exhausting him. He'll take up the man's advice and call his parents, "Fine."
They went up to the upper floor where the living quarters are. Nemuii led him to one of the doors and used his card to unlock the door. At a glance, you'd think you entered a hotel. The wall was painted a dark navy tone and the dark grey curtains were drawn, revealing a view of the opposite commercial building. The white bedsheet contrasted with the dark blue pillowcase and comforter. The floor was covered with light grey carpet that was soft.
Katsuki noticed a bag by one of the full-sized beds. Nemuii kicked off his shoes and headed for the bed and face planted on it. Huh, he guessed it must belong to the man. Katsuki took off his own shoes and put it neatly by the doorway. He went to the window and looked down at the heavy traffic below and the people going about their business in the late afternoon. He then went to the other bed and sat on it. The mattress was firm under him. He lay down on his back and fished out his cell phone. He had turned it off the whole day.
When he turned it on, the device vibrated in his hand as all the notifications lit up. He checked his texts first. There was one from his parents, one from Kitamura and then there's Izuku as well. He checked Kitamura's text first and it was a reminder that he had to email a report before he heads to Fukuoka as per the request of the manager, great.
Then he checked the ones from his parents. They were mostly about what they were doing that day; a business meeting, sightseeing and shopping. Masaru had asked which of the T-shirts he found he would like and the hag sent pictures of her meeting with some heroes on the streets. One of them caught his attention, it was of his mother and a dark-skinned beautiful hero. She was not in her hero costume but Katsuki could tell that she's Mirko. She's one of the few heroes besides All Might that he admired. He wondered if he would be able to meet her before they head down to Fukuoka.
Katsuki stared at the unread texts from Izuku. There were over a hundred. The nerd must've gotten excited over something again. He opened the text and his guess was right. Apparently the nerd got too close with a villain attack while in Hosu City and was saved by Manual. The text was mostly his commentary of what went down, who dropped in to control the situation and a few blurry videos. He got to take a picture of Manual and Katsuki was relieved his friend didn't get hurt. He typed in his reply and sent the text. It didn't take long to receive a reply from the greenette.
Deku: Kacchan!
Deku: Where have you been?!
Deku: I tried to call you!
LordExplosionMurder: Sorry, my phone was off the whole day.
Deku: Huh? That's not like you…
Deku: Anyway, how's your day?
LordExplosionMurder: Not as eventful as yours. All I did was follow my parents around. It's kinda boring.
Deku: Oh…
Deku: Did you find any All Might merch?
LordExplosionMurder: Not yet. I'll try to find some when I get to go around by myself.
Deku: It's okay if you couldn't find any.
LordExplosionMurder: Hey, I'll get you something for your birthday.
Deku: It doesn't have to be anything All Might!
Deku: I'm okay with anything! Really!
Katsuki rolled his eyes and sighed.
LordExplosionMurder: I'm gonna head out soon. Talk to you another time.
Deku: Okay. Take care, Kacchan!
LordExplosionMurder: That's what I wanted to say you trouble magnet! Watch your back!
Deku: I will.
Deku: Don't worry about me.
Deku: I'll see you soon!
Katsuki checked his emails and saved the ones related to his summer assignments. He sat up and dialled his father's number as he glanced at Nemuii who was snoring quietly on the other bed. Masaru picked up after five rings, " Katsuki? "
"Hey, dad. How's it going?"
" Oh, we're doing fine. I'm sure you can see from those photos your mother sent. "
"The hag can be all smug, I don't care."
Masaru chuckled, " How are you? We got a brief explanation about your training here… will you be alright? "
Katsuki sighed as he leaned forward and rest his elbows on his knees, "I'll be fine. Don't worry."
" As your father, I can't help but worry. "
The blond smiled, "My day was pretty busy with training and meetings. I'm on a break right now and then I'll be heading out with this guy named Nemuii on a patrol."
" Patrol? " asked Masaru curiously.
Katsuki noticed from his father's tone that he didn't know what happened yesterday. He would sound more alarmed if he knew about his encounter with the villain. Katsuki frowned but decided to keep quiet about the incident, "More like collecting information from the streets."
" I see. Do your best and don't be too hard on yourself, okay ?"
Katsuki's grip on his phone tightened slightly, "Alright."
" You wanna talk with your mom? I think she's done showering- "
"Nah. I'll talk with the hag next time."
He could hear the amusement in his father's voice, " She's not gonna be happy ."
"Then don't tell her I called," said Katsuki, smiling slightly.
" Call me tomorrow? "
"Yeah. Take care, dad."
Katsuki hung up and he sighed quietly. He glanced at Nemuii who was still sleeping. He didn't have his things so he wasn't sure what to do while he waited.
Who says you can't lie down and daydream?
The boy shook his head, he's not the type to sit around and relax. He prefers to busy himself. He stared at the floor. Maybe he'll do some workout?
Nemuii startled awake when his watch vibrated. He lifted his head up and rubbed at his eyes groggily. He glanced toward the other bed and was expecting to see Katsuki resting but instead he saw the boy doing push-ups on the floor, "What are you doing?"
"What does it look like?" replied the boy with a grunt.
Nemuii pushed himself up, "I can see that. I thought I told you to rest?"
"I'm just not used to being laid back."
The agent sighed, "Well, don't complain if you're tired later. I'm gonna go get changed. You… do you have any spare clothes to change into?"
Katsuki finished his rep and he sat crossed-legged on the floor, "I don't have my bag."
The man took his cell phone and started typing, "Alright, I'll ask Kubo to drop off some spare for you. At least take a shower before we go. You'll feel refreshed after a cold shower."
The boy nodded, "Thanks."
Nemuii was muttering as he headed toward the bathroom, "Can't believe they forgot. Who's in charge anyway?"
While Nemuii was in the shower, Kubo had stopped by to give Katsuki two pairs of black T-shirts, track pants and boxers. The man smiled apologetically, "Sorry forgot to drop these off earlier. We asked your parents for your measurements."
"Why not just ask them for my clothes?" asked Katsuki as he took the plastic-wrapped clothes.
"Well, we think it's better you get these. At least if you get them damaged in training, you can just throw them out."
"Fair enough."
"I'm gonna head home to catch some sleep. Stay close with Nemuii. I'll see you tomorrow."
Dotonbori was lit brightly and crowded with people, both local and tourists. There were some rowdy teenagers laughing at something, people taking selfies with the giant crab of Kani Duroku as their background and people lining up as they waited for their cheesecake at Rikuro's Ojisan. Music was blaring loudly around them along with bells ringing and shopkeepers were hollering their special offers.
Katsuki gritted his teeth at the noise and he had to keep his temper in check every time someone bumped into him. He glared at Nemuii who didn't seem bothered by the noise and crowd. The man was dressed in all black as well and he wore a white tenegui with a crescent moon printed on it.
Nemuii looked over his shoulder, "Hey kid, wanna grab some snacks? My treat."
"I thought we're supposed to be doing-"
"We are. We need to blend in with the crowd and listen in for something suspicious. People tend to gossip more in places like this. C'mon, there's this stall selling one of the best takoyaki in the area! You gotta try it!"
Katsuki grumbled as he followed the man. He flinched when a group of girls squealed in excitement and suddenly he was surrounded by three girls. One of the girls, a pink-haired girl with freckles, was in his face, "You're Mitsuki's son, right?!"
"Huh? What-"
Another girl, a brunette, was jumping up and down excitedly, "They look EXACTLY the same! It's like we're looking at a younger version of her!"
Katsuki scowled, "I don't look like-"
"He's as pretty as her!" gushed the one with strawberry blonde hair.
"Who are you calling-"
"Excuse me, ladies? What's going on?" asked Nemuii as he pushed himself between the teenagers and Katsuki, effectively separating them and shielding the boy.
"Who are you? His bodyguard?" asked the pink-haired girl.
"I'm this boy's uncle. I believe you have mistaken him for someone," said Nemuii smoothly.
The girls stared at them dubiously, "Uncle? You don't look alike!"
"Ah, yes, well, he took more of his father's features. So what's going on?"
"He's Mitsuki's son, right?"
"Mitsuki?"
"The model, Mitsuki! This lady!" said the brunette girl as she showed him a photo of Mitsuki with her phone.
"Oh my, she does look like Kozuki-kun."
"Kozuki?"
"Hey, isn't Mitsuki's son named Katsuki?"
"But that's not possible! Look at him! He's a spitting image of Mitsuki!"
Nemuii gave them a disarming smile, "I'm sorry but you have the wrong person. C'mon, Kozuki-kun."
"Mika-chan, maybe we were wrong," said the brunette girl.
Mika, the pink-haired one stuttered, "B-but he's-"
Nemuii grabbed Katsuki by the wrist and pulled him into the crowd. The girls let out a squawk but before they could catch up they lost sight of the duo. The agent led him into a packed clothes store and Katsuki sighed in relief, "Thanks."
"I didn't know your mother's famous," said Nemuii as he pretended to look at some clothes.
"Unfortunately, I'm in the fashion business too. I was hoping no one would recognise me," said the boy with a frown.
"Really? Well, in that case, we need to get you a disguise! How about this hat?"
Katsuki baulked at the bright orange beanie that looked like a crab, "No way! I'll pick one on my own!"
"This is kinda cool though."
"Your fashion sense is shitty."
"You're rude. Anyway, grab something for your disguise."
The boy rolled his eyes and browsed the store. In five minutes he had a tenegui with blue seigaiha pattern and a deep red happi with black trimming. Nemuii tilted his head at the boy's choices, "That's it?"
Katsuki clicked his tongue, "I ain't gonna go overboard with my disguise."
"Hmm, let's add this to hide your face," said the agent as he took a fox mask on display.
"Fine," said Katsuki reluctantly.
"Gotta be careful since you're famous . I'll get one myself," said Nemuii as he grabbed a Hannya mask for himself.
"Won't we stand out in the crowd?"
"Not really. If you noticed, we got people with mutant quirks walking around. And it's summer, so there would be a few people walking around with masks or costumes."
"Whatever. Let's just get going."
When they were at the register, the cashier seemed to recognise Nemuii. She smiled widely, "Hey, Kei! It's been a while since you drop in! What did you get?"
"Hey, Natsume! These for the kid, and these for me."
"He your family?"
"My nephew, Kozuki. He's visiting for the week."
"Oh, hello Kozuki-kun! I hope you have a great time here!"
Katsuki nodded and watched as Nemuii leaned forward and whispered to Natsume, "Say, heard anything interesting lately?"
Natsume glanced around before she leaned forward and spoke quietly, "You heard about the raid at the docks?"
"Yeah. I need to know who was there."
"I'm not sure… try asking to Sakaba. He might know. I heard him ranting about Kanidoge stealing his customers so he might have heard a thing or two about any suspicious activities down there."
"Thanks. I'll treat you to dinner if we end up getting new info."
Natsume grinned, "I'm holding on to that promise."
"Where might I find Sakaba at this hour?" asked Nemuii as he slid some cash to pay the things they bought.
"Hmm, he should be at The Drunken Clam."
"Appreciate the help. Will text ya."
"Good luck!"
Katsuki and Nemuii exited the store wearing their purchase. Katsuki adjusted his mask's strap so it didn't slide down his face since it's slightly oversized. He followed Nemuii to their next destination which took them about fifteen minutes on foot. Katsuki wrinkled his nose when he looked at the sign of the bar.
The agent turned to him, "Alright since you're a kid, you can't get in. You either wait here while I talk with Sakaba or you can wait at the Family Mart down the street. You should spot it easily if you look to the right."
"I'll take the Family Mart."
"Okay. I'll see you there. Don't talk to strangers!"
"What do you take me for?!"
Nemuii chuckled as he entered the bar. Katsuki grumbled as he walked away. There weren't many people compared to where they were before in Dotonburi. He looked around curiously at the old buildings. The street he was in had a number of bars and restaurants. As he was reaching the Family Mart store, there was a scream.
Katsuki instinctively ran toward the scream which led him to Ebisu Bridge. Panicked people were screaming and running away from a rampaging mutant. Katsuki assessed the situation and pondered if he should get involved. He had to dodge panicked people to not get swept away or fall down and get trampled.
The mutant quirk user took the form that resembles a lobster. He was shouting incoherently and seemed to be looking for someone in the crowd. Nearby people screamed as they were pushed aside by the man's large claws, "Where are you, you little punk?!"
Katsuki looked around, hoping a hero was nearby to stop the rampage before anyone was seriously injured. He stumbled when someone ran into him. He looked down at a boy who was wearing tattered clothes and covered in grime. What caught him off guard was the boy's eyes which were all white. The boy gasped and fell on his butt. He looked up at Katsuki fearfully, "Y-you-"
"Oi, you okay?" asked Katsuki as he reached down to help him up.
The boy flinched and raised his arms to shield himself, "DON'T TOUCH ME!"
"There you are!" said lobster-man.
The boy scrambled to his feet and tried to run away from the approaching mutant. Katsuki stood between them, "Leave the kid alone!"
"Get out of the way! That kid's quirk is valuable!"
Katsuki frowned. He rushed forward and slammed his palm against the man's shelled abdomen and released an explosion that sent him flying. People screamed in alarm at the explosion and in the confusion, Katsuki grabbed the boy and dragged him along. He ignored how the boy was trying to pull himself free.
They went to hide in a random alleyway and Katsuki pushed the boy to hide behind a dumpster as he peeked to make sure they weren't followed. After a few moments, he turned his attention to the boy who was trembling like a leaf. Katsuki sighed and took off his mask, "Why was that oversized lobster after you?"
The boy shook his head and whimpered. Katsuki sighed and knelt down on one knee, "Hey, you're safe, for now. I'll take you to a police station so you could get protection or whatever."
The boy remained silent and continued to tremble. Katsuki sighed again and took out his cell phone. He opened the map app to see if there are any nearby police stations. He was relieved to see there's one at the end of the street. He just had to convince the kid to follow him. He touched the boy's shoulder and the boy gasped, startled. His hand shot forward and smacked against Katsuki's face, over his eyes.
There was an explosion of colours and sound when the boy's hand connected his face. Katsuki saw many things that he couldn't grasp but he recognized Izuku, All Might, Endeavour and a number of Pro Heroes. There were teenagers around him, all dressed in hero costume. Everyone was saying something but their voices were muted. Everything around them was destroyed. Blood, fire, ash and dust surrounded him. He was covered in blood. Dead bodies littered the ground. A limp hand was in his. Clouded green eyes stared at him lifelessly. There was a shadow looming over them and he was filled with dread and despair. A hand shot forward toward him.
Don't let him touch you!
Katsuki gasped as his back slammed against the wall. He blinked and realized he's back in the alleyway. He stared at the boy across him with wide eyes, his breathing laboured, "W-what the fuck?"
The boy whimpered as he tried to make himself appear small, "Y-you saw it…"
"What the fuck was that?!" asked Katsuki as he got to his feet shakily.
"The f-future."
Katsuki froze. He growled and lashed out, "Like Hell it is!"
"I-it's my quirk. I can see possible futures and anyone I touch can see it too. T-that was the worst one I've ever seen."
"Y-you mean that could happen?!"
The boy nodded and curled into himself further, "I hate this quirk. I only see horrible things!"
Katsuki took in a deep breath and then exhaled slowly, "You said it's a possible future?"
"Yeah, the f-future changes when you change something that could a-affect the flow of events."
"So I can prevent that from happening?"
"M-maybe. I don't know. That… that looks like the end of the world! I don't know if you can stop that from happening."
"I'll find a way," said Katsuki firmly, "C'mon, let's get to the police. There's a station nearby. We need to move quickly."
The boy stared at him, "O-okay."
He got to his feet shakily but suddenly he turned away and vomited. Katsuki grimaced at the sight and waited for him to finish throwing up. The boy wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, "S-sorry. That happens every time after I get an intense vision. Ughh…"
"You okay to move?"
"Wait, give me a moment," said the boy as he wrapped his arms around his midsection. He breathed carefully for a few moments and then nodded, "I'm okay now."
"Let's go. Stay close to me."
"W-what's your name?"
Katsuki glanced at him, "Call me Kozuki."
"I'm Mirai."
Katsuki looked at the street and he didn't see the lobster-man. The street was quiet. He signalled for Mirai to follow him. They stuck to the shadows and it didn't take them long to reach Osakafu Minami Police Station. The clerk at the desk glanced at them then continued to do her work, "Please have a seat. Someone will see you in a moment."
Katsuki frowned and turned to Mirai, "I can't stay with you. I need to be somewhere. You okay on your own?"
Mirai nodded, "D-don't worry a-about me. T-thank you."
"Here. This is my number if you need to keep in touch," said Katsuki as he scribbled his number on a post-it he took from the counter.
Mirai held the paper firmly between his hand, "Thank you again, Kozuki-san."
Katsuki stared at him for a few moments, taking in his features so he could remember. He wasn't comfortable leaving the boy there when he remembered what the lobster-man said, but Mirai's not his problem. He should be alright now that he's at the station. Katsuki hesitantly exited the station and headed back toward the Family Mart store. He didn't have Nemuii's number but he hoped he didn't miss the man.
Nemuii was waiting outside the Family Mart. The man's arm was wrapped around his chest, "Where did you wander off to?"
"I sent a lost kid to the station."
"Well, that's noble of you. I heard there was a commotion at Ebisu Bridge ten minutes ago."
"Yeah?"
"The heroes took care of the situation. C'mon, I got a lead."
Katsuki sighed silently as he followed the man. His mind wandered back to the vision he saw. The image of lifeless green eyes stared back at him. He realized his hands were trembling and he clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into his palm painfully. He's not gonna let that happen! He'll figure it out and find a way to stop it from coming true!
He won't let Izuku die!
A/N: Ahhh, I wanted to update last week but I got sick. Still haven't fully recovered and these bouts of nausea are annoying! Anyway, I decided to catch up with the manga as soon as I'm done writing this chapter and HOOOO BOY! I AM IN PAIN! I LOVE THE CURRENT ARC! AND THE REVEAL WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! AAAARGH!
Ahem, I'm happy to get additional ideas for future chapters but I'm still far from the Paranormal Liberation War Arc. That's okay though! I want to take the time to develop my story. The anticipation to reach the canon arcs is giving me great motivation! The future vision Katsuki saw hinted at what I had planned for the future chapters and I'm seriously torturing myself and ya'll with anticipation right now! Hrrhhhhhh!
Thank you for reading!

He works the night shift with another agent named Yoruhito. Nemuii specializes in espionage and he knows many within Osaka. He collects information for the police and the Pro Heroes. On rare occasions, he would assist in capturing villains. He tends to avoid confrontation as he's always too tired to do anything he thinks needs a lot of work. He and Kubo are high school friends and he still gets annoyed at Kubo for calling him Kikun (a shortened Kiku-kun). His hobby is ikebana and his family owned a flower store which his sister now took over.
