Chapter 1:

The Starlight Guardian

Knight light ran his hand over the stone tablet he was reading. Knight light was currently in the royal library, enamoring himself with the stories of the past, from books to scrolls and even stone tablets. "I see…", he muttered to himself. "Knight light!" a voice behind him boomed. Knight Light rose immediately and stood at attention. "Captain Polaris, my apologies I was just…" Knight light began. "You were just abandoning your post, to read some dusty old books in the royal archives, again!", Captain Polaris scolded. "But sir, there is so much I want to learn of our history, like why we were separated from the other realms and-". "And that is the job of the historians and archivists, not an elite guard like you", Polaris cut him off "In any case, the king and queen requested your presence."

Knight light was surprised by this. "My presence?" "Precisely, now get yourself to the throne room pronto! Oh and don't go sneaking off like that again. If you do, well, then you better hope those wings of yours aren't for show." "U-understood sir", Knight light stuttered. He saluted his Captain and made his way directly to the throne room. Inside King Ptolemy and Queen Andromeda were seated on their royal thrones, with their royal advisor standing with them.

Knight light bowed to the two monarchs of the light realm. "My Lord, I was told you wanted to see me." "Indeed," said King Ptolemy, "I need to speak with you about something most urgent." Knight light felt concerned, fearing that perhaps the King and Queen heard about his visits to the royal library when he should have been training. "Yes my lord, What is it?" Knight light inquired, slightly fearful. "It would appear someone in the royal court is a traitor." "What?" Knight light said, shocked. The king only nodded solemnly. "We have heard whispers of someone in our court scheming to steal the starlight.", said Queen Andromeda. "No. That can't be true!", Knight light protested. "We can not take that risk," the queen replied, "If the starlight is taken, Radiant city will lose all of its power, and crumble into ruin." "Which is why we have selected you young knight light, to guard the starlight against this traitor.", The King declared.

"Me? But surely, there are many more experienced guards who would be up to the task.", Knight light said. "Indeed, he is nothing more than a mere squire! A knight in training your highness. Even my powers surpass his. I should be the guardian if you ask me!", The royal advisor finally spoke up. "Lumis, I believe knight light here has what it takes to defend our relic. I can sense he has a strong aura within him", the King retorted, "And besides, you are our royal advisor. Your abilities are exceptional, but we need you here, to help us govern the city!". The royal advisor, Lumis, sighs. "Very well, let the squire guard the starlight." "I don't know. This is a threat to our very way of life, sire. what if I fail…?" Knight light said worried. "Nonsense! You only fail if you believe you will, and I know Captain polaris trained you not to believe in failure", The king said, confident in the abilities of his young knight. "Tomorrow, you begin your new mission of protecting the starlight. Report to the armory in the morning, there is something important we must give you.", said the king. "Understood," Knight light replied. "Good. Now then go get some rest, you will need it for tomorrow."

With that, Knight light left the throne room and went back to his quarters. As he was laying in bed, he began to think about what the king and queen had said. "A traitor? But who could it be?", he inquired to himself. All the while, Lumis was spying on the young knight, before sneaking away back to his own quarters. "I was hoping the fool would let me guard the relic. Certainly would have made things much easier", Lumis mused to himself, "But I can work with this too. That rookie knight has no idea what he is in for. Pretty soon, they will all see the light."
