Jay never knew what would happen that day, all that he was doing was having a normal drive that he usually did to the precinct. He never knew someone was chasing him, or even that someone was watching him. Someone then sped up to the side of his truck and then ran him off the road. His world then went black, but what he didn't know is that the one that ran him off the road would also cut him out of his truck and kidnap him. The one who kidnapped him also had someone else driving a 3rd vehicle, so that made it easier for the escape. Truck 81 and Squad 3 were then dispatched out, the only person who knew who's truck had crashed was Severide. "Casey! It's Jay Halstead's truck." he said. Severide then ran down to Jay's truck and noticed no sign of Jay in the truck. "Casey, Jay's not in here." he said into his radio. "There's no one in the 2nd vehicle as well." Casey radioed back.

"We're going to have to call Voight, there has to be something behind this." Severide then said. "I can tell Tony to make a detour to the 21st so I could talk to Voight." he said. They then cleaned up the accident and Casey and 81 went back to quarters and Severide and Squad 3 to the 21st. Trudy then saw Severide walk in. "Kelly, what do you want now? Or is it Mouch?" she asked. "No, it's not Mouch, I came to talk to Voight about a call we were just on." he said. She then called Voight down, and he noticed who was standing there and waiting for him. "Severide, Trudy told me that you needed to tell me about it?" he said. "Yeah, let's go somewhere that's private." Severide said. Voight then led Severide into a private room. "So, now continue." Voight said. "We responded to a 2 vehicle crash, a car vs truck; and the truck belonged to Jay, so I went down there with Cruz and Capp and I found that he wasn't in there, so Truck 81 checked the other car and no one was in there as well. So either he was kidnapped, or he ran away from the scene." Severide said. "Let's go up to the bullpen, so you can explain to the others." Voight said.

They then walked up the bullpen stairs and the others were questioning why Severide was up there. "Listen, we have a missing person case, and Lieutenant Severide will explain." Voight said. "Ok, Squad 3 and Truck 81 responded to a car vs truck earlier today, the truck was Jay's but there was no sign of him in the truck. Truck checked the car, and the occupant wasn't there either. So either Jay's missing, or left the scene." he said. "It's not like Jay to run away from a scene, even if he's trapped." Ruzek said. "But, I did notice that the window was already broken, so someone had to have dragged him out, but then no sign of him anywhere." Severide said. His radio then went off, so that was his cue to leave. "Severide, thank you for telling us." Voight said. Severide nodded and walked down the stairs. "Severide also gave me the address for the accident: Elm and 43rd, let's go." Voight announced. They all then stood up and went to the scene, but before they left, Ruzek pinged Jay's phone, "Sarge; his phone's not pinging." he said.

So that meant that Jay was taken from the scene, but they don't know where he would go. "Atwater, Rojas; you 2 stay here and check all PODS and surveillance in that area." Voight said. They now finally left and headed to the scene. "Severide was right, his window was broken." Burgess said, pointing at the window. "Look around, see if you can find skid marks, there has to be a 3rd vehicle." Upton said. "There's a 3rd vehicle, I just found skid marks." Ruzek said. "I just went through his truck, his badge and gun are still inside." Burgess said.

"It's not like Jay to disappear from a scene like that." Upton said. She then went to the car and started canvassing the other car. She found nothing in that car except for a gun, so she grabbed it with a glove and picked it up and placed it in a evidence bag. "Hey Sarge, I think our occupant in the 2nd vehicle is who took Jay with the 3rd vehicle." she said, holding up the gun. She then looked down in the vehicle and found a wallet sitting on the floor. "Sarge, the suspect's Victor Hernandez." she said, looking at the wallet. Voight then knew that Jay had a past with him on a case they had 5 years ago.

"Listen up everyone, Jay has had a past on Hernandez. He was taken into Stateville 5 years ago for assault and battery, and a few drug uses." he said. "We find Hernandez, we find Jay." he then added on. They all then got in their vehicles and went back to the 21st. When they walked in, they saw Atwater and Rojas still at work with the cams. "Did you find anything?" Ruzek asked. "We did, around 9 am when the crash happened, the 2nd vehicle ran Jay's truck off the road and then a 3rd vehicle came up behind them and stopped and the suspect in the 2nd vehicle got out and went to Jay's truck, so there's 2 suspects in on where Jay is." Rojas said. "One of the suspects has a history with Jay; Victor Hernandez." Voight announced. Upton then ran a mugshot of Hernandez and placed him on the board.

"So now to find the 2nd one." Atwater said. "Look at Hernandez deeper, go through relations to him, find ones that work with him." Voight said. They all then got to work. Meanwhile, Jay was still unconscious; he kept going back and forth because he was in the 3rd vehicle still. The car then halted to a stop, by that time Jay had slowly come to, but he didn't know where he was. But what he didn't know was that he would get tortured and drugged and then dumped off somewhere.

But they would only keep him for 24 hours and then dump him, that's what they usually do with someone they kidnap. Back at the district, Burgess then eventually found a connection between Hernandez and Carlos Santiago, they both were at Stateville for the same amount of time and the same drug charge and they even ran with the same group over in Englewood. "Hey Sarge, I found a connection between Hernandez; meet Carlos Santiago, they both ran with the same drug group over at a house in Englewood until they were busted with drug charges, almost identical years spent at Stateville." she said, placing a mugshot on the board.

"So this prick KNOWS where Jay is being held." Voight said. "And he has an address listed at a house in Canaryville." she said. "Hit it." he said. They all then got up and went to their cars and got in. "CHICAGO PD." Atwater yelled, while kicking down the door. Burgess was covering the back in case someone jumped out at them and went through the back. They then cleared the house, but Upton found a room that had all sorts of pictures of Jay doing different things. "Hey Sarge, come take a look at this." she said. Everyone then walked in the room and saw the same thing she saw. "So Santiago is working with Hernandez." Ruzek said. "Yeah, but where would they keep him?" Rojas mentioned.

"Dig deeper, find any abandoned churches, houses listed in either Santiago's name or Hernandez's." Voight said. They all knew that this would take them a while to find Jay. It had been 12 hours since Jay was taken from a scene, he was now fully alert but was dazed due to the drugs that was in his system. Hernandez had fully tortured him enough to where welts were now forming on his chest and back, and now his arms. The others had still found no churches listed in either of the names, so now they were at a dead halt and they didn't know what to do.

Hernandez had finally figured out where they were going to dump Jay, he knew one of the firefighters from 51; Joe Cruz. So that meant that Jay's limp, and beaten body would be dumped at Firehouse 51. It had been 24 hours since the accident, so that meant it was time for Jay's body to be dumped. They would dump Jay's body out in the back and by the trash bins, they then left the scene once his body was dumped. Once they were gone, now came the waiting game to see who would find Jay first. They were all in the kitchen at the time, except for Boden. Casey then noticed the trash bag was getting full in the kitchen so he decided to take the bag out into the trash, once he got the trash into the bin, he noticed a limp, and beaten body laying beside the bins.

He then got a few feet closer and turned the limp figure onto his back, he noticed that it was Halstead. "Oh god." he whispered. He then felt for a pulse, it was there but weak, he then noticed a couple puncture wounds on his left arm so that meant he had to be drugged because his breathing was also shallow. Severide then walked out to see what was taking Casey forever to get back inside. "Matt, you know taking the trash out takes you…" he said, now looking at what Casey saw. "What the hell, how did he end up here?" Severide then asked. "I don't know, he must have been dumped here, get Brett and Mackey." Casey said. Severide went inside and then laid eyes on Brett. "Sylvie, come out here." he said. Mackey happened to be beside her at the time so she ran out to the apparatus floor and grabbed the bags.

Brett was the first one outside, and she saw Casey kneeling next to a limp and beaten Jay Halstead's body. "What the hell happened?" she asked. "I found him like this, he must have been dumped here, he's been drugged." Casey said. Mackey then walked out with the bags, Brett then kneeled down and said, "We need more room to work, let's get him out of here." Severide and Casey then lifted Jay up and took him towards 61, but they didn't go through the firehouse, they went around. Mackey had already pulled out 61 so they didn't have to go through the hassle of everyone seeing what was going on.

The doors were then closed by Severide so no one that was inside could see anything. "Grab the intubation kit out of the bag, his breathing is ragged and shallow and we need to intubate now." Brett said. Casey then reached in the bag and grabbed the kit and handed it to her and she then intubated and handed the bag to Casey to start pumping, but something halted the pumping, 81 and Squad 3 were now called out on a fire, but 61 couldn't go and they were out of service now. "Casey! Tell Boden to take 61 out of service for now." she yelled. "Ok!" he yelled back.

61 was now out of service, now came the hard part of getting Jay to Med. "Mackey, go find Hermann or Ritter." she said, still working on Jay. Mackey then eventually found Ritter, standing on the apparatus floor doing overhaul on the truck. "Ritter, we need you to come here." she said. "What for?" he now asked. "Just come on!" she exasperated. He then followed her to 61 and she then opened the door and he saw Brett, standing there, over a limp body that wasn't moving. "Now, what do you want me to do?" he asked. "Drive the ambulance, I need more hands in the back." Brett said. "Who is this?" he asked. "Jay Halstead, he was dumped back by the trash bins." she said. Ritter then got in the front of the ambo and Mackey hopped in the back and started bagging.

The lights and sirens were then turned on, Ritter sped to Med as fast as he could. Jay was getting worse by the minute, his heart rate was now down into the 70's. "Ritter, how far are we out?" Brett asked. "2 minutes!" he said. "Make it 1!" she yelled. Meanwhile at Med, Choi and Marcel were preparing for arrival. 61 then stopped outside Med and Marcel and Choi were waiting, "What the hell? What happened." Maggie asked. "He was dumped at our station, who knows who flipping dumped him." Brett said. "You're going to Baghdad." Maggie said to Choi. Brett then filled them in more and then they transferred him onto the bed and 61 got a new sheet for the stretcher and more supplies and left.

Once Squad and Truck were back from the fire, Severide then dialed Voight's number, they had still been digging into where Jay would be. His phone then vibrated in his pocket, he pulled it out and saw Severide was calling him. "Voight." he said, walking into his office. "Voight, I was calling to tell you that Halstead wound up dumped back by our trash bins earlier today, he had to be injected with something, he's probably at Med by now but that's all I know." Severide said. "Ok, we're going to head to Med now, and thank you for calling." Voight said. "No problem." Severide said. They both then hung up and Voight stepped out of his office.

"We need to get to Med, now." he announced. "Why?" Ruzek asked. "That was Lieutenant Severide on the phone; Jay wound up dumped at their station, and he also mentioned that he was injected with something, but they don't know what, so now it's our job to find Hernandez and Santiago and FAST." Voight said. They all then got up and went to the separate cars and drove to Med. Meanwhile, Marcel had finally got Jay situated in an ICU bed, they had already pumped him in the ER because they finally found out what was injected into his system.

Upton had already decided then and there that she would be the one to stay in the hospital because Jay was her partner and she knew that. Once they arrived, Maggie made eye contact with Voight and said, "ICU." he nodded in affirmation and walked towards the elevator, with the others behind him. They then reached ICU and Marcel made eye contact with them. "Jay's condition as of right now is critical; he has several broken ribs, even had a punctured lung. His spleen was bruised a little but not a lot but the one thing I had to go in and surgically repair is his aorta because when he was beaten, it had been hit so hard that he started bleeding internally." Marcel said. Upton was the first to walk in, she then took in the picture that she couldn't even realize it was Jay. He had been so bruised and beaten that his face was hard to notice.

The others then walked in after about a couple of minutes of still talking to Marcel. She had tried to hold back the tears because it was hitting her harder than it was the others, but Voight then got a call that they got a lead on Hernandez so she said, "Go, I'll stay here." Voight nodded in agreement and left with the rest of Intelligence. Now she could cry, but she did it softly so no one else could hear her. But one familiar nurse heard her; April. "Hailey, you ok?" she asked softly. "Yeah, I'm fine." she sniffled. "No you're not fine, I know you're upset about Jay; he'll get through it, he's tough, you know that." she said. "I know that, but he's my partner; he's always the one getting hurt and protecting me from getting hurt." she said, wiping the tear from her eye.

April then gave her a hug and said, "It's going to be ok; you're going to get through this stay strong." Upton then nodded in agreement and wiped the tears from her eyes. April then left the room and left Upton by herself, Burgess then came an hour later and told her that they caught Hernandez and Santiago. It had been a week since he was found by 51, things have changed a lot; Jay had to be intubated because his breathing was getting worse. So that machine added on to the ones that were surrounding his bed. Upton had been there since day 1 ,Voight had given her time off because he knew the same exact thing she did; that Jay was her partner and she had to be there for him.

She had also known that Jay was stubborn, he was always according to Will, hell even everyone at the district knew that. She was always either sleeping, or keeping an eye on Jay's chest rising and falling. By week 2, Jay had been off the vent and was now breathing on his own. There was still no sign of him waking him but Upton watched him almost every second to see if there was anything that was showing a sign of him waking up. 3 weeks had passed, she had noticed a sign that he was waking up, but she didn't know if he would wake before the 4 week mark. Sure enough, Jay did wake up before the 4 week mark. "H-hailey." he rasped. "Ssh, I'm right here." she said, sitting on the edge of the bed. "What happened?" he asked. "You were kidnapped right from a scene, you ended up being dumped at 51." Upton said. "Lay with me." he said. She then obeyed his orders and got on the bed with him and he fell asleep once she was in his arms. Once Jay was asleep, she snuck out of his arms and went to his apartment to get him a bag packed because she wanted him to stay at her apartment.

After about a couple more days in the hospital, Jay was finally released, but Upton didn't want him alone in his apartment so she asked, "Do you want to go to my place?" he shook his head yes so they made way for her apartment. Once they got inside the apartment, the first thing Upton did was start to make dinner. By the time dinner was done, she looked over and saw Jay passed out on the couch, she then walked over and grabbed the blanket that was next to her and covered him up. She then stored his dinner in the fridge so he could have it for later. After about a couple weeks rest, Jay was finally able to come back to work, when he walked in, the others greeted him and Ruzek tried to joke with him, so he did it right back.
