Chapter 9: The Haunting Past

Elder woke up early the next morning and started to get everything ready for his, Spyro's, and Cynder's trip to the chronicler realm. He knew that if anyone would have any information on what happened during the creation of Avalon the chronicler should know.

He walked into the portal room in the basement of the temple and looked over the portals. He remembered when Spyro and Cynder were being sent to the other realms, so they could stop the shadow dragons from taking over. They have been very quite, however since Inu took over Warfang. All of them were shut down when Inu took over, so the other realms would be protected from him. Elder did, however, know of one portal that was still active.

He walked to the back of the portal room and put his paw onto one of the stones on the wall. He pressed in on it, and the wall started to shake. He stepped back as he watches the two parts of the wall split open, and move to each side. Elder then saw a dull purple light coming from the room and started to walk towards it. He reached the source of the light and looked the portal over. It was still active and flowing with energy. This was the portal to the chronicler's realm. Elder had to use it before to get Ignitus' help on a problem that has come up before, but now he was going to have to use it to get answers about Cynder's dream.

Elder turned around and walked back up to the main hall, as he reached the main hall he could see Lyat looking at him.

"Good morning my love," She said as she stood up and greeted him.

Elder just looked at her and smiled. Then his smile went away, and Lyat could see a look of worry on his face.

"What's wrong dear?" she asked him.

Elder just lets out a sigh and started explaining to her what Cynder had told him. Lyat just stood there listening closely to every detail.

"That is pretty much it," Elder said as he finished telling her about Cynder's dream.

"That's horrible," Lyat said back to him as she looked into Elder's eyes.

"I know. I have to help them somehow. My thoughts were to head to Ignitus, and see if he has a book on what happened back when the world was created."

"Why him?" Lyat asked a little confused.

"He's the current chronicler, so he should have access to all the books. Maybe there is one about the fall of the demons and the great war for Avalon."

"Oh how I would love to see my son again," Lyat said.

"Why don't you come with us. I'm sure he would love to see you as well."

"Do you think he will remember me?" she asked.

"He's been chronicling everything that's been happening now. I'm sure he would love to see you."

"All right then. When do we set out?"

"As soon as I wake Spyro and Cynder, and make sure they are ready for the trip," Elder replied.

"All right then. I will be waiting for you in the portal room," and with saying that Lyat started to walk off towards the room.

"Now then. Time to go wake Spyro and Cynder. I hope this is the right thing we are doing," Elder thought to himself. He shook his head and cleared the thought out of it. He then walked over to where Spyro and Cynder lay sleeping.

"Spyro. Cynder. Time to get up, so we can go talk to Ignitus."

Both Spyro and Cynder started to stir, and slowly open their eyes. Spyro looked up at Elder and started to move his legs. Getting his legs under him, Spyro stood up and looked at Elder. It took Cynder a little bit longer to fully awaken. She stood up and stretched her body out, before looking up at Elder and Spyro.

"Good morning guys," Cynder said as she stood up.

"Good morning Cynder. I hope you slept well," Elder replied.

"Could have been better. Now, what are we going to do?" Cynder replied

"We are going to see Ignitus. He should know what is going on with the demons. He should have a book about them in the library," Elder said.

"All right then," Cynder said.

"Good. Now follow me," Elder said as he started walking towards the portal room. Behind him was Spyro and Cynder.

It didn't take them long to get to the portal room, and Spyro and Cynder looked at the portal behind the wall. Layt was already standing there looking at them as they entered.

"Is this the way we are getting to the chronicler's room?" Spyro asked.

"Yes, it is. This portal is the only way to the realm, so let's go," Elder said as he stepped to the side, "You and Cynder can go first."

Spyro and Cynder looked at each other then stepped into the portal. They could feel the magic flowing through their bodies, and felt their bodies being warped somewhere. They opened their eyes, and saw that they were now in the library, but something didn't look quite right to them. Spyro and Cynder stepped out of the portal and as soon as they did. Elder and Layt appeared behind them.

"Ignitus," Elder yelled out, but there was no answer.

Elder took the lead as the party started walking down the hallway. Elder looked around and noticed a lot of burnt books and bookcases that had either been burned or knocked over.

"What happen here?" Elder question to himself, and as he completed the thought he saw Ignitus walking up from a corner hallway.

"Ignitus!" Elder called out as he walked over to him, as Layt, Spyro, and Cynder followed him.

"Oh. Father. What brings you here?" Ignitus asked with a smile on his face.

Elder saw through his fake smile and asked, "What happened here?"

Ignitus smile left him and his face became more serious. He then sighed and said, "You know about the four demon books that held Oni and his demon brethren right?"

"I do," Elder replied back.

"Well. Inu came here a few months back and was looking for the last book that held Oni himself. See the chroniclers always protected Oni's book, and the rest were sealed away in temples all around Avalon. Somehow he had found the other three and he only needed the fourth one to complete the summoning," Ignitus explained.

"That's terrible," Cynder said.

"It is Cynder," Ignitus replied back, "Since he now as all four books. He can summon the demons once again; however, he is still missing one more piece."

"What is it?" asked Spyro.

Igintus walked over to a huge book and flipped the page. He then said, "It a special decipher. The demons were sealed with an ancient language that no one but the gods themselves knew. If he gets that then everything is lost, and he will be able to summon the demons to this world."

"Maybe that is what your dream meant," Spyro said over to Cynder.

"What dream?" Ignitus asked.

Cynder explained the entire dream to him.. How Kami wants her and Spyro's help to stop Oni. How there would be a great war coming up, and other things.

"Hm. The war sounds familiar. I was just reading up about the last demon war, and Oni and his brethren were sealed at the end of it," Ignitus said

"Do you think that this may be connected to that?" Cynder asked.

"I don't know yet. I do know that if Kami told you this. Then it is very important."

"Okay, but what should we do about it? We have no clue when the war will start, if Inu as summoned Oni, or what this magic item that we have to keep away from Inu is," Spyro said.

"I think I know where the item is that you need to get; however, I don't know of a way to get there as of yet."

"Where do you think it is then?" asked Cynder.

"The Heaven Realm," replied Ignitus, "Where else would you keep an item that as that much power?"

"That means it's safe from Inu," Spyro said with a sigh of relief.

"Not exactly. Inu may not have the means to summon the demon king right now, but since he has all four books. He can still use his power to defeat Kami and take the decipher away from her."

"Ugh. So how do we get to the Heaven Realm then?"asked Spyro.

"I think I know how, but I will have to find the book on where the portal is," replied Ignitus.

"Well while you research where the portal is. I guess we need to head back and prepare for the battle," said Elder.

"That would be a good idea," replied Ignitus.

"Let's go back then," Spyro said.

All of them turned around and started to walk back towards the portal. Well all of them except for Layt.

"I've missed you Ignitus," Layt said to him.

"I've missed you as well mother," Ignitus replied back.

Layt started to cry as she ran up to Ignitus and hugged him. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you. I couldn't let the darkness that took Malfore take any of y'all. I had to hide out, so it wouldn't find me."

"It okay mother. I know all about it," Ignitus said as he comforted her.

Elder, Spyro, and Cynder just stood there as they watch them talk. Elder was happy that his son and his wife were finally able to see each other. Fifteen minutes past before Layt broke the hug and just looked at Ignitus.

"Take care of my brothers and father," Ignitus said with a smile.

"I will," Layt said with a laugh.

Elder, Layt, Cynder, and Spyro walked towards the portal with Ignitus following behind. They said their good-byes to the chronicler, and one by one entered the portal. Layt was the last to enter, and just looked back and smiled at her son. She was so proud of him, and as the magic teleported her away she thought she could see a tear roll down his face.

They returned back to the temple, and Elder closed the wall to the portal room. There Elder, Layt, Spyro, and Cynder started to think about what Ignitus had told them.

"Do we really have to wait?" Spyro asked a little impatiently.

"We do," Elder replied back.

"Well what do we do now?" asked Cynder.

"I don't have a clue," Spyro replied.

"Let's head to the main hall and see if everyone is awake," Elder said.

All four of them headed towards the main hall. Still pondering what may happen to them. What they needed to do? And what Inu's true plan is.

End Chapter 9

I want to thank everyone for reading this chapter, and I hope y'all will enjoy it. Next chapter will be up at some point in time, and I will go ahead and tell you that it is going to be a Yank and Ki chapter. I know what y'all are saying that it's going to be a filler chapter, and you are right. However, to me, their love is so pure that I hope I can capture it in my writing the way I'm thinking about it in my head.

Anyway. Enough babbling about stuff, and I'll see everyone in the next chapter.

Also before I forget. Check out "TLOS: Rebirth of a Broken Soul" by Keyblade Zen. It's a really nice story, and he's put a lot of hard work into it. Anyway peace out everyone.
