Welcome to my first new story in ages. I like to believe I have grown in my writing (yikes, that sounds cocky) and that I won't experience as much writersblock as I had before.
With that thought in mind I will make a promise to finish this story if it's the last thing I do, because if I can't even finish a fanfic then how am I going to get my masters degree in writing? LOL!
You read the summary, it's Captain Swan, kids, fluff, some angst and drama, obviously sex and some other ships we know and love from OUAT, so stay tuned!
Disclaimer: the rights to the characters of OUAT do not belong to me, only the OC ones, which I take full credit for.
Before we get into all the fun let me remind you that I would love it if you reviewed this first chapter to let me know if you liked it or not. It gives me a lot of encouragement to continue writing if I know people actually read the story ;)
Now that I have nothing left to say, sit back and enjoy the bumpy ride!
'Hazel, I swear to God, if you have not picked a dress in the next three seconds mommy is going to pick one for you'
Emma Swan was losing her mind. Letting her four year old pick what she would for the first day of school was a disaster waiting to happen. And yet she had not been able to say no to those adorable green eyes of hers. Hazel had a lot of trouble picking anything, whether it was a crayon, a snack, what color cup she wanted to drink from, so Emma should have known picking a dress from the ten dresses she owned would be impossible.
'No mommy no! I get to pick!'
'Then pick one baby, please' Emma sighed in defeat. She was sure the Mommy Mafia would kill her if they found out that she was pushing her daughter to make a choice that she was 'not ready to make'. God she really hated those mothers. The mothers that always did everything for their kids and they did it perfectly as well. They made their kids' science projects, cut their sandwiches in those ridiculous shapes, were always on top of everything during PTA meetings and worst of all, they liked to point out every little flaw in other mothers that were not part of their Mommy Mafia group.
According to them, Emma had a lot of flaws. She was not present enough during PTA meetings, she refused to cut Hazel's sandwiches in hearts and floral shapes and there were more than enough other flaws she could name. Well, they could shove it up their ass honestly. At least she had a cute kid who seemed to like hanging out with mommy at the spa on saturdays, which was more than she could say about any of them and their spoiled brats.
'This one!' at last Hazel had picked her favorite green dress that matched her green eyes perfectly. Luckily, getting her dressed proved less of a challenge as Hazel loved dressing up and feeling pretty with her hair braided in many different ways. Something Emma, surprisingly enough, had gotten rather good at over the years. Taming Hazel's mob of unruly blonde curls was quite a task though, but with the right products her hair was braided in no time. After that it was just a matter of a quick breakfast and they would be on their way.
Emma actually managed to get to Storybrooke Preschool a little early because she skipped her usual round of getting coffee to get back some of the time she had lost by making the mistake of letting Hazel pick her own outfit. She quickly parked the car before helping an impatient Hazel out of her carseat and handing her daughter her little Peter Pan backpack. She took her small hand and they entered the school grounds. The preschool was located right next to the elementary school, which would make it so much easier for Hazel to transfer to kindergarten, hopefully by the end of this schoolyear. She was a smart cookie, her little one, very perceptive and she had actually already started preschool just last january, when she was only 3,5. She had turned 4 in july and now she was back for another year of preschool which Emma was quite glad about. Her little girl was growing up way too fast and she wanted to hold on to her childhood years for as long as she could.
'Emma, over here!' the sound of Mary Margarets voice calling for her made her sigh in relief. She hated being the first one on the playground, mainly because it usually resulted into having to deal with the Mommy Mafia by herself and she was not in the mood for another ban from the schoolgrounds today.
'Neal!' Hazel cried out and pulled her hand away from her mother's before running over to Mary Margaret and her 6 year old son Neal. Even though Neal was two years older than her, the two still got along great and Emma liked the idea of Neal protecting Hazel like a little sister.
'You look content, did you see David already?'
'Emma! He's a married man!' Emma knew her best friend would never admit her feelings for David as long as he was still happily married to that witch Cathrine. She was one of the members of the Mommy Mafia and an insufferable person to be around. How a nice guy like David had married a witch like her, she would never know. But she did know that that man deserved a lot better than that spoiled wife of his. He seemed miserable whenever Emma saw them together and she had seen him talking to Mary Margaret before. The two were practically drooling over each other, and Emma would never let her live it down.
'Well he is also a miserable man so you might as well take advantage of that'
'Take advantage of what?' another one of their best friends, Elsa joined the group with her one year old attached to her hip and her four year old runnig up to Neal and Hazel to play with them on the swings.
'David Nolan'
'Ohhh is that still happening?'
'I can guarantee you nothing is happening between me and David Nolan' Mary Margaret tried to defend herself but Elsa and Emma quickly shot her a look.
It felt good to joke around with her friends again after spending a summer laying low. She had seen some of her friends every now and then but this would be the first time she would be reunited with all of her friends as well.
They called themselves the Single Parent Club, or SPC for short. The idea of the Single Parent Club was born several months ago on a drunken night with Ruby. After yet another confrontation with the Mommy Mafia they decided it was enough and they would have to start their own group. They needed the support of other single parents and most of their friends were single parents anyways. They were so sick of being treated like they were worst parents simply because they were parenting on their own so Emma had become the spokesperson for their little club, going head to head against Regina Mills, the leader of the Mommy Mafia and quite unfortunately also the mayor of Storybrooke.
So far their group consisted of Emma, Ruby, Robin, Mary Margaret, Elsa and Liam. The last two joined purely because Elsa was Emma's best friend and even though Elsa and Liam were dating, Elsa knew what it was like to be a single parent. She had raised her, now five year old, son Matthew by herself the first two years of his life. That was until she had met Liam Jones, who had swept her off her feet and before Emma knew it her best friend had found herself pregnant with his baby. So fast forward to today, she had a 5 year old son and a one year old daughter named Rosie. Even though it was against the rules to let non single parents into the club, they had made an exception for Liam and Elsa.
'David would be a great addition to the SPC, don't you agree?' Ruby noticed the three of them staring at the blonde man who had just entered the playground with his wife and five year old son Ben. The kid was nice enough but since he mother was such a bitch there must be something wrong with him as well.
'Except he is not a single parent' Mary Margaret sighed softly.
'Where's Liam? I thought he never missed the first day of school?' Emma commented as she looked around to see if she could find the blue eyed man somewhere among the playground without any luck.
'He'll be here a little later, he is helping his brother settle in. He just moved here from Chigago, recently widowed. His wife died in a carcrash, left him with a four year old daughter' Elsa explained, a look of sorrow painting her face.
'How recent are we talking about?'
'Ruby!'
'I'm sorry Mary Margaret, but if he's Liam's brother he must be hot. A girl can try!'
Elsa chuckled and shook her head at Ruby's hunting instinct for men. No wonder that woman was a single mother, getting pregnant after one of her many one night stands had made her see the light and though she still hunted for men, she became a bit more meek now.
'It happened about a year ago but he was having such a hard time in Chigago he just wanted a whole new start, especially for his little girl. It's funny, she has the same birthday as Hazel'
'She does?' now that got Emma's attention. She was not really interested in this brother of Liam's. He would most likely be handosme, sure, but she had scars that had yet to heal and a heart that she was sure could never be mended after what she had gone through. She didn't need a man. All she needed was Hazel and she would be fine.
'July 24th, that's Hazel's birthday isn't it?'
'It is'
'Well so is Charlotte's, isn't that cute? She just turned four as well. He'll be taking her to preschool here too'
Emma shrugged just seconds before Ruby grabbed her arm. 'Wait is that him?' Ruby's grin grew wider as Emma's eyes looked in the direction of Ruby's gaze and sure enough there he was.
He took after his brother, that was for sure, but he was even more attractive. He got out of the car just after his brother and then helped a little girl out of the car who immediately clung to him and wrapped her arms around his neck when he placed her on his hip. He had the darkest hair and he looked very fit from what she could see from a distance. Emma couldn't quite see his eyes but she was sure they were as blue as his brother's.
'Yep that is him, Killian Jones, Liams younger brother' Elsa informed them and just when Emma was about to comment she felt a little tap on her shoulder. She did not even have to turn around to know who it was. Only one person tapped her on the shoulder with two fingers like she was some sort of fucked up parrot, Regina Mills.
She slowly turned around to face the stern eyed woman who was holding her crying son, Henry.
'What is it you want this time Regina?'
Driving into Storybrooke Killian didn't know what had possessed him to even move to a small town like this. The only real reason he could think of was his brother. It would be nice to live close to him and see his niece and nephew every now and then. Not to mention Charlotte would have someone to play with, which would be a good start. Still, he was not the small town type of guy. he had loved living in Chigago. He loved the busy city life and having his favorite bar around the corner, the supermarket across the street and the subway taking him anywhere he wanted. It was the city he had fallen in love with many years ago, the city where he had met the love of his life, Milah.
They had met when she started bartending at his favorite bar and it wasn't long before they could no longer deny the chemistry they had. It ended in a one night stand that turned into a weekend at his place, just fucking, eating and talking about anything and everything. He had never felt such a connection with anyone before and it wasn't long until they went on an actual date. Killian Jones was never the date kind of person. He lived on one night stands. But this was different. Milah was different. She had sneaked her way into his closed off heart and made it hers. The two happiest days of his life were when they got married and when their little girl, Charlotte was born. They had been so happy. She took after him in every single way, physical and character wise and he loved that girl with all his heart, just as he had loved Milah. They were good together. Sure, they argued every now and then, but what couple didn't?
Then came the day of the crash. She had left for work that morning, just like any other day. It was Killians day off with Charlotte and the two of them had gone to te park but when they returned he found two policemen in front of the house, waiting for him. On her way to work a drunk driver had hit her car and Milah hadn't survived. It had been like his world came crashing down and perhaps the most heartbreaking thing was having to tell Charlotte. How did you tell your daughter that her mother was never coming back? That she was an angel in heaven now and they would not be reunited with her at the end of the day? It had shattered his heart to hear his darling Charlotte cry out for her mother and sob in his arms.
After that day he had been plagued with nightmares. Nightmares of Milah standing in front of the door with a broken neck and a split skull, asking for help before crashing into his arms. Some nights they were worse than others but it was always about her. So he had decided to make a new start in Storybrooke, the town his brother lived in with his girlfriend, stepson and little daughter. It would be good for Charlotte to be around new kids as well, kids that did not look at her with pity or told her that her mommy was dead. Kids could be really fucking cruel sometimes and he often wanted to beat the shit out of the parent who had raised such a pathetic excuse for a child. He never did though.
Liam had told him a bit about the town but not too much, just that it was a good place for Killian to get back on his feet before perhaps moving back to a big city again, maybe Boston.
The houses here were definitely cheaper and he actually managed to get him and Charlotte a rather nice looking house with an ocean view and more than enough space for them and their little four legged friend Mr. Mittens, a birthday gift from Killian to his daughter a little while ago to help her cope with the loss of her mother. Ever since she got him, Charlotte and the cat had been inseperable and it was rather sweet to see the two of them together. Now she always had a friend with her, wherever she went.
Killian counted himself lucky to have Liam there to help him get all the stuff from the car into the house before he had to drop Charlotte off at preschool. He didn't want her to miss the first day of school and though she always wanted to help out, she always slowed everyone down when she actually tried to. So after Liam had helped him unload the car and get Mr. Mittens into the house in his carrier he quickly grabbed Charlotte's Tinkerbell backpack filled with some snacks and juice for her break before handing to her.
'Daddy, we must take Mr. Mittens with us' Charlotte protested when Killian announced it was time for them to go to school and Mr. Mittens had let out a disappointed little meow from his cat carrier.
'Charlotte darling I know you want to take him with you, but you can't. He'll have to make new cat friends here and you will have to make new friends at school' he argued as he picked her up with ease and took her to the car. Normally he would walk her to school since Liam told him it was just a few blocks away, but his brother had offered him a ride as it would take him home faster before the moving trucks showed up so he had gladly taken the offer.
As he listened to Charlotte's nervous babbling he realized that she was actually scared for her first day of school. His extremely social and lighthearted little girl was afraid of human interaction, he never thought he would see this day. She was usually the life of the party and she could talk anyone's ear off, a talent she had gotten from him and loved using around bedtime when she did not feel tired yet.
'Charlotte it'll be fine, you will make lots of friends I'm sure of it. Mr. Mittens and I will come pick you up after school okay?' he promised her and Charlotte's sweet little face immediately brightened up at the prospect of her beloved cat coming to pick her up from school. Once they arrived at the schoolground Liam parked his car by the side of the road and Killian helped Charlotte out of her seat before holding her on his hip as Charlotte tightly wrapped her arms around his neck.
'Why don't I introduce you to some people? It'll be easier introducing you now than over drinks or at a PTA meeting or something' Liam suggested.
'I really am not in the mood Liam, I have tons of work to do at the house once the movers come'
'Well I can't bloody well ignore my girlfriend and kids can I? I'm not asking for you to even say anything if you don't feel like it'
Killian sighed deeply as Charlotte placed her little hand on his cheek to get his attention 'if I have to make friends, then so do you!' she commanded him and Killian rolled his eyes playfully with a chuckle as they made their way over to Elsa and some other people he had never seen before.
'Aye my little pirate you're right. When did you get so smart huh?' he teased her and they arrived at the group where Liam immediately introduced him to everyone he didn't already know, which was everyone except for Elsa.
'Everyone, this is my brother Killian and his daughter Charlotte. They just moved into Storybrooke so it's been a bit of a hectic day'
'Aye, I apologize if I look like a complete mess' Killian chuckled.
'Don't apologize on my account if this is your messy look' a raven haired woman with bright red lips answered as she winked at him. 'I'm Ruby'
'And I'm Mary Margaret' a black haired woman with a pixie cut cut in before Ruby could say anything else 'that's Robin and you know Elsa of course. And there's Emma'
Killian looked in the direction Mary Margaret pointed at and he was faced with the most beautiful blonde fury he had possibly ever seen. She was clearly arguing with a dark haired woman about something and the two seemed far from friends. Still it gave him a good opportunity to check her out. He may be widowed but he wasn't made of stone. Part of his grieving proces had been a phase where he slept around with a ridiculous amount of women to try and forget Milah and he was sure that any relationship he would have now would mainly just be for sex. This Emma would definitely be a good candidate for that. She had probably the best ass he had ever seen on a woman and she was slender but with a bit of roundness in her hips, you'd never say that she was a mom. Maybe she wasn't, maybe she was a teacher?
'So you are all parents of kids that go to school here?' he tried to see if he could find out whether or not Emma was a mother too.
'We are, and we're all single as well. Apart from Liam and Elsa of course' Ruby immediately brought up.
'Really?' now this was excellent news, a single mother was always easy to win over. They were usually deprived of sex and attention and they could easily be persuaded into a night of fun.
It wasn't long before the hot blonde that went by the name of Emma joined the group and she did not even seem to notice him standing among her friends as she was so furious from what had just happened.
'Emma, is everything okay?' Mary Margaret carefully checked and she immediately received a death glare.
'Would everything be okay if I came over looking like this? Regina actually accused my daughter of biting her son, that little pussy Henry, I-..' it was only then she noticed the strange man with the piercing blue eyes with a child on his hip who definitely should not have heard her use the word 'pussy' in that context.
'I am so sorry, I didn't realize you were standing there. I'm Emma, Swan' she quickly introduced herself, seeming a lot more friendly now.
'Don't apologize love, I am dying to hear more of this tale' he winked at her, he actually fucking winked like it was nothing and somehow it made her sweat. She had not been this instantly attracted to a man since... ever. 'I'm Killian by the way, but I am sure Liam has told lovely stories about me, all of them probably being true' he dared joke.
'Don't worry little brother, I left the most embarrassing stories for you to tell'
'Try younger brother' Killian let Charlotte down as she was growing tired from being held and she wanted to go explore when she saw the other kids playing on the playground.
'Down daddy, down! I want to go play' well she was fucking adorable, that was for sure. She seemed like a nice little girl and not too shy. Perhaps she could pull Hazel out of her shell a bit so Emma crouched down to her level.
'You see that girl over there by the swings? The one with the two braids and Peter Pan backpack? That is my daughter, Hazel. Why don't you go over there, I'm sure Hazel would love to play with a nice girl like you'
Charlotte's eyes immediately lit up when Emma told her about Hazel and a potential new friend she could make. She nodded happily and immadiately ran over to the swings where she introduced herself to Hazel who was obviously a bit taken back by the girls' enthusiasm, though she agreed to play with her on the swings.
'That was very kind of you, she was a bit nervous on the way over. Though as you can see she is not the shy kind. Got that from her father' he grinned before Mary Margaret cut in.
'Please tell us more about what happened with Regina'
'Ah yes Regina, well that fucktard of hers was accusing Hazel, the kindest soul in the universe, that she had bitten him. An accusation I, of course, denied and then she had the nerve to tell me if it happened again she would be reporting it to the schoolboard. I was about three seconds away from punching her in the face before her group of minions came to her rescue'
Oh Killian loved a feisty woman and this one was not afraid to stand up for her daughter, which was an admirable quality in his eyes. It was all show still, he usually let his cock talk because if his heart would do the talking he would be sobbing somewhere in a corner and that wouldn't benefit anyone. If there was one thing he hated it was playing the victim and people feeling sorry for him, that had been the absolute worst about the entire proces of grieving. All those looks of pity that came his way and he wanted none of it. Luckily it was just over a year after it had happened now and the postcards and emails had pretty much stopped. It was life was back to normal except a big piece of his was missing.
'I'm sorry but who is Regina?' Killian dared ask and Mary Margaret was more than happy to inform him.
'Regina is like the top dog of this school. She is a single mom, but she is also the mayor which gives her a hell of a lot of power in this town. You don't want to be on the receiving end of her rage, Emma and Ruby can tell you about that...' Emma glared at Mary Margaret and Ruby just shrugged. 'Anyways, we call her and her friends the Mommy Mafia. They just love going around and pointing out every little flaw in your parenting. It's like they are always watching you to bring you down'
Robin chuckled 'you're making it sound like they are actual mafia'
'They might be'
'I'm pretty sure Regina is just as protective over her child as we are over ours' Robin defended her. Her was more quiet amongst their group but he was more of the voice of wisdom. They liked having him around though and he was a great friend to Liam.
'Well this was fun but I have a job to go to, the diner doesn't open itself' Ruby stated and she waved at her little son, Jack, who was playing with Robin's son Roland.
'I should be heading off as well, I have a ton of chemistry tests to grade, but make we could meet up at Granny's after we pick up the kids? We could all have dinner together. Killian you should come, and bring Charlotte!' Mary Margaret happily invited him and Emma immediately noticed the look on his face. Though Mary Margaret's enthusiasm was very welcome on most occasions, she could also corner you into always saying yes to an invite and that was definitely happening here.
'I uhm... sure, why not?'
'Perfect! Then I'll see you all after school, good luck today!'
They all said their goodbyes until it was just Emma, Killian, Elsa, Liam and their daughter Rosie that were left.
'Look at those two, thick as thieves already' Killian noted and Emma chuckled in reply as she watched Hazel and Charlotte together on the swings.
'They're going to get along just fine, Hazel is a bit shy usually but once she gets to know someone she just opens up like that' Emma snapped her fingers and sighed as they watched their daughters for a moment. 'I'm sorry Mary Margaret cornered you like that. Once she invites you to something you just can't say no, I'll warn you next time'
'Please give me a call in advance so I can think of a proper excuse to use' Killian teased as his damned blue eyes found hers and pulled her to him. How was it possible to drown in someone's eyes? Was she finally losing her mind?
'I'll try, but it happens to me way too often. She has a way of sneaking up on you, but it means that she likes you. You're part of the club now'
'What club?'
'Didn't Liam tell you? The SPC'
'That sounds like some sort of narcotic Swan'
She rolled her eyes 'the Single Parent Club'
'I see, so any single parent can join?'
'Well only the fun ones, and by the grace of Mary Margaret you have been deemed worthy enough to join. Anyways, I should get to work or the thieves will be running this town by noon. See you at Granny's Jones' she waved at Hazel and blew her a kiss before saying her goodbyes to Elsa, Liam and Rosie and she walked over to her car to go to work at the sheriff station.
Killian watched as she walked off and bloody hell, that ass really was amazing. He grinned a bit as he let himself get lost in his imagination for a moment before Liam pulled him out of it, reminding him that the movers would be there soon and they had to get home. So he quickly said his goodbyes to Charlotte and promised once again to bring Mr. Mittens along when he came to pick her up before he could let her go, knowing she would be okay.
Perhaps this fresh start had not been such a bad idea after all.
Reviews keep me floating above the water, so don't let me drown.
See you next chapter my little kitties!
