"Excuse me?! Of course it matters! Why would I care about something that doesn't matter?!" Undyne's response kept playing through his head.

"I don't know. Maybe you care about dumb things." Why did he say that? That was literally the worst thing he could say.

Before Undyne could respond, Papyrus had walked up the stairs and into his room.

He had told his friend that caring about him was dumb, and by extension, she was dumb too. He didn't actually say that last part, but Papyrus was sure it was inferred.

Down the stairs, in the kitchen, were 2 angry monsters.

"Dumb?!" Undyne yelled, "Why would he say I was being dumb?! All I did was ask him why he was in the kitchen, what's so wrong about that?!"

"I dunno."

Sans' answer only made her madder.

"What, do you think I'm being dumb too?!"

Sans' eyes widened and he spoke quickly. "Oh no, of course not!" He looked down for a moment. "Um, but, maybe you should stop shouting."

Undyne's expression was unexplainable. All Sans knew was that she was angry.

"Stop shouting?! My best friend, who never gets frusterated, just told me I'm stupid!"

"...Yeah, you got a point." His face showed sympathy and concern. "I'm sorry about all that."

"Sorry?! What do you mean, you're sorry?! You're the one who told me to go in there! If it's anyone's fault, it's yours!"

"Well, you went in there. You didn't have to."

"Because I care about my friend! And apparently that makes me dumb!"

"Undyne, calm down." Yeah, Sans wasn't sympathetic anymore.

"Calm down?! What are you talking about?!"

"Calm down means calm down, not yell louder."

Undyne raised her voice. "Too bad!"

"Seriously, stop."

An irritated groan was heard before Undyne slammed the door. She had left.

Next came footsteps. They were getting louder and louder.

Sans was going to enter his room. 'No, no, don't you dare come in...' Papyrus thought.

And then the dreaded sound. Papyrus' bedroom door opened.

"Hi, bro," Sans said. Papyrus didn't look.

"Hello," he squeaked.

Silence. "You good?"

"Yeah." Papyrus was curled up in a ball, underneath the covers.

"...No, you're not."

Oh no. "W-what? I am!"

Papyrus felt more weight on his bed. It was his brother, now sitting down next to him.

Sans looked at his face. His sibling was anxious. Scared. Sad. A whole bunch of things.

The taller skeleton thought it couldn't get any worse. But then... he felt a tear fall down his face.

His brother's arms wrapped around him.

"P-please go away..." Papyrus whispered.

But Sans refused.

"What's going on?" he asked.

Papyrus felt and heard himself crying. "I'm tired," he started to say, "I guess that's why I'm in bed, huh?"

Neither of them laughed at his joke.
