A Time of Wolves
Summary: In the midst of the Newborn battle, a vampire uses his ability to send Bella on the journey of her awakening to finally find her true place in the supernatural world. Alongside two unlikely allies Bella is put to the test: fighting history in order to return to her present. Will she find her true purpose or will she lose herself to time?
Author's Note: This is set during Eclipse and everything up to the point of the Newborn battle has taken place including Bella's engagement to Edward. This will set an unlikely course for her future and will not follow the rest of Eclipse or Breaking Dawn. It will not follow the cannon storyline or relationships. To make the story work I did change some of the ages and minor details to make the overall story make sense. Those changes are listed below!
I am going to try to update 1 to 3 times a week with the expectation of this story being about 32 chapters long with the regular chapters being much longer than the preface. I like the idea of a preface because it allows me to get the back story in pretty quick so I can jump in the story. I have this being set up where you learn what has happened with the trio as time goes on.
Just about every other chapter will be a time jump to where they ended up and what transpired between them while they were gone. While it was only hours for the pack, it ended up being closer to almost 2 years to the trio. Please read and review!

Also Please Note: I was in the middle of editing chapter one when I saw a comment that made so much sense so... I changed the Paul and Leah pairing to a Jacob and Leah pairing. So thank you so much lazygirl89 for the suggestion. This tiny detail that isn't really used for the first few chapters actually makes the later chapters so much better and makes a lot more sense long term!
Preface: The Battle of the Newborns
Bella sat inside the tent quietly pretending to read a book anticipating an update from Seth. It was eerily quiet that put an uneasy feeling in the pit of Bella's stomach. With both Edward, Jacob, and everyone else at war fighting for her. To save her. She felt guilty and somewhat of an invalid. There was nothing she could do to help but sit and stay quietly. But, after reading the sentence for what seemed like the hundredth time Bella closed her book and stood for what seemed like the first time in hours.
As she stepped outside she heard a small wine followed by a nudge with Seth's large nose pushing her back into the tent.
"Seth, I just need to know that everyone is okay…" She trailed off after he gave her was undoubtedly a 'It's fine. Everyone's good. Now get back inside that tent before I throw you back in there.' She let out an exasperated sigh in response which was followed up with an amused huff with yet another warning glance.
"I know! But, I am tired of waiting and waiting! There has to be some sort of update by now!" Bella yelled at Seth, who seemed to be having an internal argument which meant only one thing. "You're being ordered from not saying anything aren't you?"
Seth's eyes hit the snowy ground, shoulder's sagging slightly.
"It's okay Seth. I get it. Just let me know if everyone is really okay. Please that's all I ask." Bella pleaded with Seth.
Seth's head rose and she saw a conflicted and forced head nod.
"Thank you."
Another nod and nudge back inside.
"Alright I am going. I'm going!" Bella laughed as she turned around to go back in the tent with an angry snarl followed by an angelic yet evil sounding laugh made her freeze mid step.
"A dog thinks that it's going to stop me. How cute." Spoke the angelic voice and as Bella turned her head to see a male vampire. A man from missing posters she had seen before. Jamie. Bella felt her throat close as she felt the end was near. Her eyes quickly glanced towards Seth. It seemed her time was up but maybe she could negotiate for his life. To save him. To do something that mattered. To do something that would make a difference. In a swift movement she took a small knife she had stored her back pocket and sliced her hand as she screamed.
"Hey! Asshole. I am who you want. Now be a man and leave him alone then you can have me. Here I am willingly for the taking." Her voice never wavered as her eyes briefly left the man to see Seth's eyes grow large as both him and Jamie ran towards her. As Bella closed her eyes she heard an angry and pain driven howl that filled the forest to a silence. That was when five things happened simultaneously.
Jamie reached Bella.
Seth wrapped his jaws around Jamie.
Three wolves came out of the forrest at full speed. One with dark silver fur, one that had silver fur with black spots, and one with russet brown fur. Paul, Embry, and Jacob.
Jamie cackled and whispered in a sing song voice loud enough for the wolves and Bella to all hear "My purpose is here and my purpose is clear. But, for you my dear things are much less clear. Take it from me, take it from her, you will never be the healer. I see it in your eyes. I see it in your stance. Your mate doesn't stand a chance."
Time seemed to stand still as Seth tore the vampire limb from limb, not realizing the gold glow that surrounded the three of them as Paul jumped towards Bella just slightly ahead of Jacob and Embry. As glow disappeared the only thing that remained was a pile of dust and a gold engagement ring that once belonged to Bella. Jacob and Embry froze and looked at each other as a high pitched "NO" pierced the air and a red headed monster stood before them. As if in complete sink, the two attacked at Victoria.
Minutes turned into hours as the people searching for the missing trio dwindled down to just the pack and the Cullen's. As Sam gave the order to leave for the night to resume the search the next morning, a gold burst reappeared showcasing Paul, Seth, and Bella who were wearing traditional Quileute garments with Bella standing slightly behind Seth. The three looked as if they had seen ghosts as they saw the pack and the Cullen's staring at them.
"What the hell happened?" Emmett asked the three as he looked at Bella. He went to take a step closer to the three but a warning growl left Seth and Paul with Seth taking a slightly larger step in front of Bella, who simply looked amused at the turn of events.
Edward seemed to be puzzled as he looked over to the trio and spoke quietly, "Why can't I read your minds?"
Bella smirked in response.
