A/N - So sorry to leave you guys with such a dramatic cliffhanger. I hope that this one is worth the wait. Enjoy!

The call came to Emily shortly after eleven pm.
She had put the girls to bed earlier and spent a few hours relaxing before making her way to bed. She had felt restless for some reason and had found herself playing on her phone swapping between texts with Spencer and Casey. Just when she was about to set the phone down and force herself to go to sleep, the phone lit up and a call rung in. She constricted her brows when she saw the person calling- Jason DiLaurentis. What could he be calling for?
"Jason?" She answered anxiously.
"Emily, hey," he greeted. She sensed some stress in his voice and it made her nervous. Jason hadn't called her in years. The only times that he had, it had been about Alison.
"What's up?" she asked, "Is everything okay?"
"No, I'm not sure," he exhaled, "I just got a call from the hospital in Rosemont. They said that Ali was in a car accident."
"What?!" Her heart dropped upon hearing that. She had just spoken to Alison on the phone a few hours ago when they were putting the girls to bed. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, but they didn't say much. I guess they just brought her in. They didn't have any details yet."
Emily was already moving. She flung the covers up and swung her legs around the bed. "What hospital?"
"Rosemont Memorial," he told her, "I'm in California and I don't know how soon I can get there. Definitely not until at least tomorrow night…"
"I'll go- I'm going now," she told him decisively. She opened a drawer and grabbed a pair of jogging pants. "I'll call you as soon as I know something."
She hung up and started getting dressed. Her chest was pounding out of fear and worry. What if the blonde was seriously hurt? What would she tell the twins? What would she do?
Her mind was so clouded in fear and adrenaline that she had almost forgotten about her sleeping daughters. She couldn't take them to the hospital with her. She called her Mom.
"Em, hunny it's late. What's wrong?" Pam answered sleepily. She knew that Emily would only call so late at night if she had a problem.
"I need you to come stay with the girls," Emily told her quickly, somewhat jumbled.
"What's going on?" Her mother asked again, worry seeping into her voice.
"Jason just called. Ali was in a car accident."
"Okay," Pam said, "Try to calm down. I'm on my way."
Once Emily was dressed, she paced the house more times than she could count. She'd tried to call the hospital, but couldn't get any information. She figured that she'd have to come up with something when she got there. She just wanted to get there as soon as she could. She needed to see Alison. She needed her to be alright.
Pam arrived at the door twelve minutes later, and Emily went flying out to her car ready to speed to Rosemont. She vaguely heard her mother behind her telling her to drive safely. She wasn't in so much of a haze that she couldn't drive. She was focused and determined. She just had to get there.
She turned the normally forty minute trip into thirty-two minutes and somehow managed not to get pulled over for speeding on the way. When she got to the hospital, the receptionist confirmed that Alison had been admitted and taken to a room. She eyed Emily suspiciously, telling her that only a relative could go back to see the patient.
"I'm family," Emily had told her. The nurse nodded, giving her the room number, and Emily took off in a hasty pace down the hallway.
"Ali?!" She called, eyes wide as she rounded the corner of the room.
Hey eyes immediately went to Alison, who was covered up and laying in the hospital bed. She didn't look seriously injured. Her blonde hair was fanned around the pillow, and her eyes were closed as she slept. Emily felt memories flood back of Alison at Welby, strapped down and alone and and her heart ached.
The second thing she noticed was a man that she had never seen before sitting next to the bed. He had been looking at the floor when she walked in with his elbows propped on his knees. He had sandy blonde hair and was dressed nicely. When they registered each other's presence he looked up at Emily and she noted that he looked tired.
"Who are you?" She asked, somewhat flabbergasted at the presence of a stranger. Jason had only called Emily about an hour ago, it was unlikely that anyone else could have made it here in such short time. And even if they did, how did they get through to the room.
"I'm Sam, a… friend of Alison's. I was in the accident with her," he told Emily.
Her face contorted in confusion, "Well why is she laying in a hospital bed and you look fine?" She assessed the situation and realized, "Were you driving?" She shook her head. How could someone be so careless to let this happen. "Were you drinking?" She asked.
Emily's mind was moving a thousand miles per hour as se continued on her frightened rant, "She's a mother! How could you let something like this happen?!" Her voice continued to raise as every accusation left her mouth.
"Woah, let's-" He glanced over at the sleeping blonde and stood up, walking over to Emily and placing a hand on her shoulder, "let's maybe step outside quick."
She shrugged him off. "I'm not going anywhere," she told him, stunned that he would try to tell her what to do.
"Please? She's supposed to be resting," he asked.
Emily swallowed. She did not like the idea of being told what to do. Especially when it came to Alison. But he was right, she didn't want to disturb the girl.
They stepped outside of the room together and she started back on him right away, "How the hell did this happen?"
The man took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair. "We were just driving home from dinner. Another car whipped around a corned and completely ignored a stop sign. I didn't see him until he hit us," he shook his head, clearly disturbed by the events that ha taken place.
Emily stared him down just breathing. She was trying to regain her composure. Somehow during the drive, she had settled herself down with the purpose of just getting to Ali as quickly as she could. Now that she was here, though, all of the emotions were spilling out. The idea of something happening to Alison terrified her.
"Listen, it's Emily, right?" He spoke again in attempts to further explain.
"How do you know who I am?" She asked immediately.
"I…" He looked around, seemingly lost at what to say, "I've known Alison for a little while now. I recognized you from her pictures," he shrugged.
A while now? Emily thought. She crossed her arms, a confused look spreading across her face. "Well I have no idea who you are." She told him.
Sam took another breath, not wanting to cause any drama and tried to redirect. "I'm sorry that this happened. I'm sorry that you're scared," he pressed his lips together she shook his head, "I was scared too, but the doctor said that she's going to be okay."
And hearing that brought down Emily's anxiety some. There were no major wires or machines in the hospital room and Emily hadn't been able to make out any casts or anything. It had still been scary to see, though. She hated the idea that Alison had gotten hurt and she couldn't help her.
"What else did the doctor say?" She asked him. She really didn't like getting her information from some guy that she didn't know, but it was her only option right now.
He ran his hand through his hair again, which Emily found annoying. "She wasn't conscious when the ambulance got there, but she came to on the way to the hospital. The doctors did a CT scan... she's got a concussion and some bruised ribs, but otherwise she's okay. They just wanted her to rest."
Emily nodded taking in the information. She felt pained at the thought of Alison getting loaded in an ambulance, but also thankful that she hadn't been injured worse. They heard movement inside and both headed back into the room.
Alison was trying to sit up, but struggled to get all the way. She winced as she felt pain on the right side where her ribs were bruised. She registered two figures entering the room, but felt disoriented. When they approached the bed she was able to recognize them both. Sam and Emily? What were they both doing in the same room?
"Em?" She asked.
"Hey, I'm here. You're awake." She sat down on the side of the bed touched the blondes forearm.
"What are you doing here?" Alison asked. She vaguely remembered coming into the hospital and had known that Sam was with her, but when did Emily enter the picture?
"Your brother called me," she told the blonde with a half smile, "I guess he's listed as your emergency contact but he's in California."
"I thought he was in South America," Alison mumbled, still feeling dazed. Maybe he told her that he was back in the States, but she wasn't really sure. "How did you get here?" She asked.
"I drove," Emily told her somewhat cheekily. She was happy to see Alison awake and responsive, even if she was technically supposed to be resting.
Alison looked beyond her at Sam, "You're still here too," she noted, voice soft. She registered that both Emily and Sam in the same room was weird, but couldn't bring herself to articulate it.
He took a couple of steps forward and shoved his hands in his pockets with a soft smile, "Yeah, of course I am. The doctor just wanted you to rest, but you're good to go whenever you feel ready. I can get you home."
Emily shook her head, "No, I think you should come back to Rosewood with me. That way you have someone keeping an eye on you." She told herself that she wasn't being petty, that it made more sense for Alison to stay in the guest room in Rosewood... but no matter what the case was, she wasn't leaving the hospital and sending Alison away with this guy. Emily looked over and stared at Sam across from her, daring him to object. He didn't.
Alison was too out of it to notice the standoff happening in the room. She just mumbled in agreement and closed her eyes. Emily raises her eyebrows at Sam. He pressed his lips together and walked out of the room to let the doctor know.
An hour and a half later, Emily carefully helped Alison into the house and got her to the guest room. She was still pretty out of it, and didn't bother changing into anything before laying down in bed. Emily set the nightstand up with anything that she might need throughout the night and put her phone nearby so that she could call if she needed anything. She tucked the already half asleep blonde in and whispered goodnight before heading upstairs to her own room and crawling into bed with her sleeping mother.
She didn't fall asleep right away. Instead, Emily laid awake in thought as she listened to Pam's light snores next to her. She'd been so shaken up when the call had come hours earlier from Jason. She knew that they had all suffered close calls over the years, but the idea that something could happen to Alison now, when they had children, was more frightening to her than ever before. Sure, she had taken care of the girls alone when Alison was in Oregon, but she'd seen the place that they'd come to as a family since the blonde had been back and it wasn't something that Emily was willing to give up. There was something inside of her that had been around for years now that always pushed her to want to protect Alison. She hated that she couldn't do that when she found out what had happened in Beacon Heights. She hated that she wasn't there to help the other girl. She hated that she couldn't protect her from getting hurt tonight too, but she could be there for her now. She found solace in that as she finally drifted off to sleep.
—
Emily's alarm went off just a few hours later and it was a rude reminder of how late she'd been up the previous night.
She noted that her mother was out of bed, so she went in search for her. Normally, she used the spare twenty or so minutes after the alarm to wake herself up and make coffee, but she had a hunch that Pam may have beat her to it, which she was grateful for. She walked into the kitchen and was greeted by the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of her mother mixing something up in a bowl. For probably the millionth time in the past few years she was thankful for her mother's constant willingness to go above and beyond for her. When she thought back to their rough patch after she came out in high school she could have never imagined at that time how much her mother would be there for.
"Ah, you're up," Pam turned around and offered her a mug of coffee. Emily took it and inhaled the scent. "What time did you get home last night?" She asked.
"A little after two," Emily yawned and confessed, "I had some trouble sleeping."
"I felt you tossing around." She took on a concerned expression, "Is Alison alright?"
Emily nodded and put her coffee down on the counter. She folded her arms and rubbed her hands up and down her biceps as she thought back to the events of the previous night.
"She has a concussion and some bruising on her ribs, but otherwise nothing serious." Emily tilted her head towards the guest room, "I brought her back here so that she could rest for a few days. I wanted to keep an eye on her and make sure that she's okay."
Pam pressed her lips together, "You did the right thing, honey. She shouldn't be alone right now."
Emily didn't tell her that there was apparently someone else that could have taken her home and presumably taken care of her. She decided that she didn't like the thought so she'd just been ignoring it.
She leaned back against the counter and sighed, "I was so scared last night," her voice cracked slightly at the end, remembering the whirlwind of emotions that she went through after Jason's call.
Pam walked over to her daughter and pulled her into a hug. "It's alright, it was totally normal of you to feel that way," she assured her daughter as she held her. Emily felt a tear slip from her eye and pulled back to quickly wipe it away. Her mother rubbed at her shoulder and continued to soothe her, "She's okay, Emmy. Everything is going to be okay."
Emily nodded and picked her coffee back up. She told herself that the idea of something happening to Alison was so scary because they had daughters together. What would she have told Lily and Grace if the accident had been more serious? She knew that the other reason that she had been so scared though were the feelings that she has for the blonde. The feelings that she is usually able to keep buried. They had been through so much together over the past five years. They had worked so hard to get to the point in their relationship that they could be this close even after being divorced. They hadn't come all this way for something terrible to happen.
Pam spoke again to break Emily's train of worried thoughts, "I'm going to get these pancakes cooked. Why don't you go ahead and get the girls up and moving?"
Emily nodded, picking up her coffee and taking a large sip before she headed back up the stairs. She knew that she would have to let the girls know that Alison was there, so she tried to prepare herself for how to inform them without causing them to worry.
"Good Morning," she called as she opened the door to the twins' room. She forced a little bit of cheer into her voice so that it wasn't obvious that she was tired and still pretty shaken up from the previous night.
The girls both rolled over in their beds as they acclimated to the wake up call. Emily turned on the lamps in the room and went to both beds, slightly jostling them awake as she did each morning, and pushing their messy hair out of their faces. Once they were awake, she decided to let them know what was going on. It was Friday and she didn't want them spending the whole day thinking that they were going to Rosemont that night when they weren't.
"Girls, I wanted to let you know that you're not going to your Mom's apartment this weekend. We're all going to stay here," she told them.
"Why," Lily whined, "I want to see Mommy." Emily looked over at Grace and the other girl had an annoyed look on her face, clearly not happy with the news but not awake enough to cause a major stir.
She realized that she probably wasn't clear by the way she'd phrased it and tried again, "All four of us are going to to be here this weekend. Your Mom is sleeping downstairs," she told them.
"I want to see her," Lily jumped out of bed and headed toward the door, followed by Grace who somehow had twice the energy that she had the minute before.
Emily blocked the doorway and kneeled down closer to their level. "Girls, the reason that she's here is because Mommy got hurt." She didn't want to tell them how because she didn't want them to be afraid to ride in a car. "We need to let her rest."
"Can we see her though?" Grace asked, "Please. We'll be quiet."
Emily thought about it for a minute. She really didn't want the girls in there crawling all over Alison. She also hadn't seen her since last night and would have preferred to check on her herself first. But she knew her daughters... She wasn't going to be able to say no to them, and they would just sneak in there anyway.
"We'll stop in and check on her VERY quickly… but if she is asleep or if she says that her head hurts we'll need to leave okay?" They both nodded, anxious to go downstairs, "and no crawling on her bed!"
Emily hoped that they heard the last part, because the girls had already started in the direction of the stairs. Emily hustled behind them and beat them to the downstairs bedroom door. She put her hand on the knob and looked down at them with a finger to her lips to shush them. She slowly opened the door and poked her head in to see if the blonde was awake.
Alison had actually been awake for a little while. Her headache had woken her up about an hour ago, but had subsided some. She saw the door crack open and smiled when she saw Emily poke her head in. Her memories from the previous night were mostly intact, but the whole situation was still a little hazy for her. Still though, she remembered how she felt when she woke up in the hospital and Emily was there. She remembered how thankful she was for Emily taking her home. How safe she'd felt when Emily tucked her into bed. It was nice to have some good memories from such a scary experience.
"Hey," she greeted. Her voice was low and a little bit scratchy. She realized after the fact that speaking had sent a wave of pain to her head.
"Hey," Emily smiled, happy to see her awake and looking halfway okay, "I may have let it slip to the girls that you were here. They wanted to come in and check on you. Is that okay?"
Despite how she was feeling, she would never turn her daughters away, "Yeah of course," she said. The girls almost immediately pushed past Emily after that.
"Are you okay," Lily asked, big brown eyes looking sad.
"Mama said you got hurt," Grace stated behind her. Emily walked up behind both of them and put her hands on each of their shoulders. She knew that they understood that Alison was hurt, but she wanted to make sure that they respected the boundaries as well.
"Yeah," she squinted at them and pushed her lips into a smile, "I hit my head, but I'm okay."
"Are you going to stay with us this weekend?" Grace asked again, patting at the comforter.
"I think so," she looked at Emily who confirmed with a nod, "yeah."
"It'll be like Christmastime," Lily smiled, thinking back to the holidays when the four of them were in the house together for a few days.
"Maybe a little more low key than that, sweetie," Emily smiled. She peered at Alison, noticing that her smile was a little tighter than usual and realized that she should probably get the girls moving. "Why don't you girls go upstairs and start brushing your teeth and getting ready? Grandma is making you pancakes for breakfast and then she's going to take you to school."
The both complied and flew out the door to get ready for the day, excited at the prospect of their breakfast. Both Emily and Alison did their best with breakfast, but nothing beat a Pam Fields pancake morning. Alison leaned back into the pillows and closed her eyes, smile fading and lips pressing into a line.
"I'm sorry if that was too much," Emily grimaced.
"No it's fine," Alison opened her eyes and looked back at the brunette once the wave of pain went away, "it's just a headache- it'll pass. I wanted to see them."
"Are you really okay," Emily questioned.
"Yeah, the doctor said that it would be pretty rough today, but would get better progressively over the next week or so. Nothing to be worried about." She gave Emily a small smile, "Thank you so much for last night."
"Of course," Emily sat down on the edge of the bed, "I'll always be here for you, Ali. Jason scared the hell out of me when he called and told me that there was an accident," she shook her head at the memory of his worried voice.
"It was pretty scary, but it was better knowing that you were there." They shared a look for a beat, appreciating being in each other's presence after the drama that could have been last night.
"Don't you have to get ready for work?" Alison asked, breaking their silence.
"Oh no, I'm exhausted," Emily waved her off, "plus I don't want to leave you here alone." She'd emailed the athletic department head last night and told them that someone would need to sub her classes.
"Oh…" Alison nodded, a little surprised and smiled, "well thank you."
"Yeah," Emily stood up, "why don't you rest some more and I'll get them moving. Just let me know when you're hungry."
She left the room and Alison rolled over and closed her eyes. She could use some more sleep and guessed that Emily would appreciate the time to relax.
Once the twins and Pam left, Emily tidied up what was left out in the kitchen and laid down on the couch to nap. She drifted off to sleep almost immediately and finally got caught up on the rest that she had missed the previous night.
—
She woke up to her phone chime with a text. She picked it up and noted the time- 11:37am- and realized that she had been out for almost four hours. It was a text from Alison, who was only two rooms over.
"There's something I might need help with…"
It probably hurt to yell, so it made sense that the blonde had just texted. Emily looked towards the door of the suite where she was and got up and walked towards it. She opened the door and saw Alison sitting on the edge of the bed and noted that she looked frustrated. She also noted that her top was only half on. It took a beat, but she pulled the door shut, "Oh! Sorry!"
She grimaced, embarrassed slightly at her own intrusion. "It's okay," she heard Alison call softly, "you can come back in."
When Emily opened the door, the blonde was still in the same position that she was a few moments ago. Emily tried her best to avert her eyes. She didn't want to get caught staring.
"I wanted to take a shower but I can't… I can't get my other arm high enough to get this shirt off," Alison told her, clearly irritated with her situation.
Emily peaked over at her, "Do you- um- do you want me to try to help?" She asked nervously. She tried to play it cool, but for some reason the idea of helping Alison take her shirt off made her feel anxious. She knew it wasn't sexual- far from it- but she hadn't even seen the other girl in a swimsuit since their divorce.
"Can you?" Alison asked, "I'm sorry… I know it's a little bit weird. It doesn't have to be though."
Emily relaxed a little, "I know," she nodded and walked towards the bed to assess the situation. "I think we can get this arm out without lifting it all the way." She'd had a similar injury in high school and remembered a few tricks. "Let's see…" She lifted the shirt up slightly around Alison's middle and inched the sleeve down her arm to try to slide it out. After alternating a few times, she was able to free the other girl's arm and helped her lift the shirt up over her head.
Alison breathed a sigh of relief and Emily looked down. She forced herself to look past her bra and down at the blonde's ribs. She sighed and before she could help it, she ran her fingers lightly along the visible bruising. "Ali…" she frowned.
"I know, it hurts like a bitch," Alison sighed. Their eyes met and they shared half smiles with each other for a moment.
Emily removed her hand and stood up. She felt like she needed to distance herself from the situation. Her heart had been doing strange things in the past twelve hours.
"Why don't I make you some toast and you can have it after your shower?" She offered. She doubted that the blonde had much of an appetite right now, but she really needed to eat something.
"Yeah, that sounds good," Alison nodded, wrapping her arms loosely around herself before Emily exited.
She was embarrassed to have to ask for help and hoped that she hadn't made Emily uncomfortable. The brunette had been so good to her not just now, but over the last six months. As she climbed into the shower, she realized that this was probably the first time that they had been in the house alone together. Maybe that was where some of this anxiety was coming from.
After she exited the shower, she did her best to try and get her clothes on herself. Luckily, she still had a few drawers with clothes stored in them in the room. She dug out a button-up pajama top and threw it on over the matching pants. It would do for now.
When she walked out into the living room, Emily was waiting on the couch with toast and some water set up for her on the coffee table. She nodded towards the food, "Thank you for that," she smiled.
"Wanna try to watch a movie?" Emily asked holding up the remote. She wasn't sure what they were supposed to do together and she still had two hours before she had to pick the girls up.
"Um," Alison wrinkled her nose, "I'm not sure if I can look at a screen right now... you can put the TV on though, I'll just rest my eyes or something."
"No that's okay," Emily put the remote down. They sat in silence for a few minutes while Alison tried to nibble at the toast.
"Did you get enough rest?" Alison asked, "I can't believe that you stayed up half of the night and took me home. It was really nice of you."
"I got a good nap," Emily nodded, "And I wanted to make sure you were okay. Sorry if I was a little pushy at the hospital," she gave a wry smile.
"It's fine," Alison shrugged, "I'd rather be here so that I can see the girls this weekend."
"I might owe the guy that was there an apology," Emily confessed. She didn't feel guilty about the way that she'd pushed him out of the picture... she'd do the same thing again, but she had been a little erratic when she got to the hospital.
"Sam?" Alison asked through a bite of her food. Emily nodded and Alison waved her off, "He's fine. I talked to him this morning."
This was news to Emily, "Oh, you did? When?"
"Before I tried to shower," she shrugged, "He said that he knew you were just worried."
Emily still found herself curious about their connection. If they'd already talked today they must be pretty close, right? She knew that she should let it go, but she couldn't help it.
"So is he like... your boyfriend or something?" She asked before she could stop herself. She worried that she might regret asking.
Alison put her toast down, but didn't answer right away. She was hoping that she could avoid this conversation, but should have known it was inevitable after the hospital run in.
"He's a... close friend I guess," she answered.
"Ali," Emily shook her head, "If you're dating him you don't need to lie about it."
Alison twisted her lips, feeling a little bit annoyed, despite knowing that Emily was right. "We go out... on dates," she shrugged, "but it's just casual. He's not my boyfriend." She shook her head.
"He knew who I was," Emily pointed out.
"That's because there's pictures of you in my apartment," Alison smarted to her.
"If he was your boyfriend, you know you could tell me, right?"
"Well he's not, so..."
He wasn't, Alison thought, right? She'd told him over and over that they were just casual... but then again, they had been seeing each other for months now. She knew that he wanted things to be more serious than they were, but she still didn't consider him her boyfriend, despite it maybe coming across otherwise at times.
"Okay," Emily moved on to let it go. They chatted a little bit more for the next hour, redirecting their conversation to their daughters. Emily felt a little bit guilty for fishing for information, especially considering things had been getting progressively more serious between her and Casey.
Alison eventually went back to get some more rest before Emily went to pick up the girls. They figured that her opportunities to relax were going to be limited until the girls went to bed that night.
The rest of the weekend went by really well. That evening, they had pasta night, which was Emily's specialty. Afterwards, they put on a movie, and Alison tried her best to get through it without a headache. About halfway in though, she'd gotten sleepy and tried to find a comfortable way to recline on the couch that she was sharing with Emily.
Emily noticed her fidgeting around. She picked up a pillow and put it in her lap. "You can lay your head here if you want?" She offered. She told herself that it was because space was limited with the twins hogging the other couch. She told herself that it just made sense.
Alison took her up on the offer and laid all the way down on the couch, resting her head content on Emily's lap. At the feeling, Emily know that it was more than just the space issue. She wanted to be close to the blonde. She had to physically resist herself from not wrapping her arm around Alison's back or touching her hair. She wasn't sure how to stop the feelings that kept bubbling to the surface.
On Saturday, Alison was feeling better than she had the day before and the four of them were able to enjoy a full day together. It was rare for the four of them to do mundane things together like have dinner and play Candy Land outside of the holidays. It was clear that the girls were happy to spend the weekend with both of their mothers. They doted on Alison more than Emily had- running to the kitchen to fetch her water, or covering her on the couch with a throw blanket when she rested between activities.
Emily found herself worrying less about the feelings that she was having and allowed herself to have a memorable weekend with her family. She liked having Alison around to talk to and help with the girls. She felt close to her and thankful to be in her presence after the scare of the accident. She knew that she should have been more guarded with her feelings and worked harder to push them aside, but for a few days she let the voices quiet down and just enjoyed herself.
Spencer came to Rosewood on Sunday afternoon to hang out and helped get Alison back to Rosemont so that Emily wouldn't need to drive there and back. Emily had felt her absence almost immediately after she left and she found herself looking forward to calling the blonde when it was time to put the girls to bed later.
When it came time, Emily led the reading to keep it easy on Alison. The girls went to sleep quickly, tired from the long weekend, and Emily was looking forward to chatting with Alison for a few minutes. Before she could though, she heard something in the background.
"What was that?" She asked.
"Oh..." Alison answered, "Sam just brought over some Chinese food."
Emily constricted her brows on the other line. She wasn't sure why, but it bugged her a little. They'd had such a nice weekend together and now the 'non-boyfriend' from the hospital was already over at her apartment? She knew that she shouldn't be annoyed or jealous, but that didn't stop her chest from feeling a little rigid at the thought.
"Okay," she said abruptly, "I'll let you go then."
She meant that she'd let her off of the phone. But as she she hung up, she realized that she might need to mean that on more ways than one.

A/N- Hope this chapter eased the worries about Alison. Poor Emily was worried too and her feelings definitely got the better of her.
Keep hanging in there and stay safe! Hope you enjoyed reading and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Where will they go from here?
