Inside the Patch home, Flugel and Flandre are seated comfortably at a dining table, conversing with Summer and Taiyang. Sitting on Summer's lap is a 2 year old infant with bright blonde hair.
"So where are you two from?" Taiyang curiously asks. "The places that Summer usually goes to on her missions are full of Grimm and other dangers. Just what were you two doing in a place like that?"
"You wouldn't recognize the name of the place we hail from," Flugel responds while munching down on a cookie. "Hmm... as for the level of danger of the area we were in... It wasn't so bad."
Summer internally sweats, recalling how Flandre had eradicated those Grimm simply by clenching her fist.
'Just how did she do that? I've been meaning to ask, but missed my chance,' She wonders to herself.
"Whatever, Master," Flandre burps after downing a glass of milk. "I'm the one that did all the work."
"What do you mean?" Flugel counters. "I'm the brains and you're the brawn! If anything, I'm very slightly more important."
He emphasizes by pinching the air with his fingers. At the same time, he smugly grins while glancing over Flandre's short stature.
She doesn't miss the subtle implication and she growls.
"O-Okay... So what do you two do?" Taiyang asks with an awkward smile. "Are you a Huntsmen?"
"Huntsmen?" Flugel raises an eyebrow, then glances over at Summer.
'So that is what Summer's occupation is... Huntsmen.'
"Mommy," the infant babbles while reaching for the plate of cookies on the table.
Summer gently smiles down at Yang and gently pinches her cheek.
"Aw Yang... How cute!"
"Tai," She looks up and lightly scolds. "Aren't you being a little to interrogatory?"
"Er..."
"It is fine," Flugel chuckles. "I do not mind. This is your home, after all. It is only natural that he should be thorough with anyone who steps through your doors."
Flandre merely shrugs and reaches out to grab another handful of snacks to happily munch on them.
"Yum!"
"Tai, the truth is, when I was out there, it turned pretty bad for me. Honestly... if I hadn't come across Mister Flugel and Flandre, I definitely would have died."
"What?!" Taiyang exclaims. "Just where in the blazes did Ozpin send you to?!"
"Tai, you know it comes with the job."
"... I know but..." Taiyang sighs. "Okay, keep going."
"I was nearly out of Aura. Several of my ribs were broken, and there were at least a thousand Grimm chasing after me," Summer recounts.
"There were 1,683 of those Grimm or whatever you call them," Flandre mumbles with a mouth full of cookies.
Taiyang looks like he's about to faint.
"Right..." Summer slowly nods. "When I came across Mister Flugel and Flandre, I thought they were civilians. So I turned around to engage the Grimm in order to help them escape."
"Summer..." He says with a wavering voice. He'd lost count on how many times he warned Summer that her heroic tendencies would get her seriously hurt one day, but she never listens.
"Here's the crazy part," She lightly laughs, mainly due to disbelief.
"I'm still having a hard time believing it. Flandre... she made a fist, and every single Grimm turned to ash in an instant. She killed them all."
"W-What? She... like... punched them away?"
"No," Summer shakes her head. "She clenched her hand into a fist. Then it was all over."
Taiyang feels like his head is spinning while his eyes flicker between Summer and Flandre, an innocent looking little girl. The only outstanding feature would be her eyes, but even that is not so uncommon for something like a Faunus.
Flandre merely flashes him a grin, causing a shiver to run down his spine.
"Summer," he begins to laugh. "That's a pretty good joke. You are joking... right?"
Flugel silently watches while munching on his snacks.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" Summer sighs. "Another thing... this all happened literally about an hour ago."
"Uh..."
Taiyang places a hand up against his wife's forehead.
"Weird, I don't feel a fever..." he mutters.
Summer slaps his hand away with a pout.
"I'm not sick. Mister Flugel. He healed me to full health in a couple seconds. Then, as he described it... teleported us to Patch. That's when you met us outside in the yard, and here we are now."
"But that's... was it a Semblance?" Taiyang asks incredulously. Teleportation Semblances are exceedingly rare. To his knowledge, the only one currently alive with such a Semblance is Raven.
"Semblance?" Flugel casually asks. "What's that? These cookies are great though."
"He said it's..." Summer hesitates and glances at Flugel, who shrugs.
"He said it was magic."
"M-Magic? Like... actual magic? Not those card tricks?"
"Actual magic... Mister Flugel, earlier, you mentioned something about my eyes. Could you elaborate on that please?" She asks.
"The ocular magic in your eyes," Flugel nods. "You have a decent quantity of magic present within, though it's a bit of a mess at the moment. I reckon that you feel rather uncomfortable whenever you use them?"
"Well... I don't know whether they're magic or not, but my eyes and head do hurt quite a bit whenever I activate my eyes."
"Hmm," Flugel rubs his chin. "Look into my eyes and activate your magic."
Flandre stops eating and slightly narrows her eyes, sensing what her Master is about to do.
Summer tilts her head up and gazes into Flugel's eyes which seem to glimmer with various hues. She deeply concentrates the way she usually does in order to activate her eyes. As she does, Summer notices that there are countless intricate symbols floating within Flugel's eyes like beads of light.
He reaches out and lightly taps her forehead.
The sensation of electricity zapping through her eyes and head causes her to jerk backwards in her seat. Then, an intense itchy sensation builds up in her head.
"Ah!" She exclaims out of surprise.
"Summer! What did you do?" Taiyang demands.
"Calm down boy," Flandre says with a serious expression. "My Master just gave your wife a valuable gift."
After several minutes, Summer rapidly blinks her eyes while rubbing her head.
"Mommy?" Yang call out worriedly.
"... I'm fine," Summer assures with a smile.
'What was that sensation? I know he did something to me because I almost feel... lighter? Like a weight that I'd never known existed has suddenly been lifted from my shoulders.'
"I feel... different?"
"S-Summer, your eyes," Taiyang stammers with a shocked expression.
"My eyes? What about my eyes?" She asks.
The man jumps up from his seat and sprints to their bedroom in order to grab a handheld mirror. He sprints back at full speed and holds it up in front of his wife's face.
Summer's eyes widen, and she subconsciously reaches up to touch the corners of her eyes with her fingers.
Her eyes are no longer the familiar silver white, but now, is a common brown/black with the very center shining with a bright silver light that looks like a miniature sun.
"Try activating it now," Flugel instructs.
While staring into the mirror, Summer concentrates on her eyes, and is immediately surprised that the amount of effort needed is substantially less than before. In fact, it feels much more natural.
The silvery orb in the center of her eyes expands like an intricate web, revealing itself to be magical circles made of white wings and feathers.
Summer stares into the mirror, mesmerized by the transformation.
'They're beautiful...'
She, Taiyang, and baby Yang huddle around the mirror.
"Pwetty pwetty," Yang laughs.
Flugel nods in satisfaction, while Flandre sports a slight frown.
Summer maintains the transformation for several minutes, until she finally grows tired and they revert back.
"My head doesn't hurt, and I was able to maintain it!" She exclaims in awe. "Before, it was only in momentary bursts! Mister Flugel, what did you do?"
Flugel rubs his chin and explains, "Before, the magic in your eyes was akin to a large body of water thinly spread out across a surface like a puddle. There was no real form, order, or reason. What I've done is that I took this analogous body of water and gathered it into a proper vessel. Think of a pool. From that pool, there are various channels, canals, and pipes dedicated to directing the water wherever and whenever it is needed."
"What a way to downplay it, Master," Flandre scoffs before pointing a finger at Summer.
"Listen girl. I hope that you're not going to take what Master has done for you lightly. I'll have you know what in the past, people would have literally killed each other just get a chance to get a look at Master-"
"Flandre," Flugel scolds as he lightly chops her head.
"What, Master?" She pouts. "I'm just making sure that these people recognize the weight of the massive favor they owe you."
"Um..." Summer nervously glances between the two quests. "So Mister Flugel spent a lot of effort on my eyes just now?"
"That's right!"
Summer quickly lowers her head.
"I'm not completely sure what these changes to my eyes mean, but thank you, Mister Flugel," she says.
Flugel waves a hand.
"Don't make such a big deal of it. As for your eyes, the main difference is control," he explains. "That is magic you were born with. Now that you've gained control over it, you will naturally learn of the benefits on your own."
"How should I explain the visual change to my eyes," Summer wonders. "Ozpin will definitely ask questions..."
"Hmm, if you want to keep this change hidden..." Flugel muses. He flicks the air towards Summer, and the color of her pupils change back to their silvery hue.
"That was?" She asks.
"It's a mere trick of the light. I've also imbued the spell so that its magical signature is near undetectable," he explains.
"Wait," Taiyang interrupts. "You keep referring to Summer's silver eyes as magical, and just now, you also said that she was born with it."
"Yeah," Flugel nods. "What about it?"
"What of it? We've always been taught that magic is impossible except for six individuals!" He exclaims.
"Huh?! Who said something that stupid?" Flandre says while looking at Taiyang like he's an idiot. "It's just that the Ley lines are screwed up. Otherwise, magic would much more commonplace now. Jeez, what the heck are they teaching in schools nowadays?"
"Mister Flugel, we were once told that magic is only usable by individuals known as the Maidens," Summer explains. "There are four of them and they each represent the different seasons. The remaining two capable of using magic is the one who told us this information, and... the one responsible for the creatures of Grimm."
Flugel loudly sighs, "I have a lot of work to do, it seems. How annoying... I'd like to meet each of these individuals. Could you take me to them?"
"Um..." Summer fidgets and exchanges looks with Taiyang. "Tai... do you think we should?"
"We've already kind of spilled most of the beans anyways at this point," he sighs.
"Okay," she nods to herself and gathers her thoughts.
"Mister Flugel, I actually have to report back with the results of my mission to the one who first revealed this information to us. His name is Ozpin, and he is the Headmaster of Beacon Academy. If you'd like, I can take you and Miss Flandre along with me to go meet him."
Flugel nods, "That is acceptable. Flandre and I are feeling rather tired from our long journey, so we have no problem waiting until tomorrow."
"We have a spare guest room upstairs," Taiyang offers.
"In that case, we will take you up on the offer and impose," Flugel replies.
*** Guest Room ***
"Master, why did you do that?" Flandre asks.
"Hmm, the easy answer is because I felt like it?" Flugel answers. "Leaving her eyes as is would've been a waste of potential. Combined with the scarcity of magic, I felt that I should be proactive."
"Master... you expended one of your sources in order to stabilize her eyes. Though it's not a permanent loss, it'll still take you at least 10 years to recover," She deeply frowns.
He reaches out and pats Flandre's head.
"What? Are you worried?"
She slaps the hand away.
"I just hope this wasn't a mistake," she huffs.
"But didn't you notice, Flandre?" Flugel asks with a smile.
"Do you mean Summer?" She asks. "Of course I noticed..."
"Though I've temporarily lost part of my power, it is also an opportunity."
Flandre loudly sighs, "Seriously Master. You're way too generous sometimes."
"Isn't this why I have you by my side? If someone tries to screw me over, you'll take care of it for me," Flugel chuckles.
"Hmph," she snorts before laying her head across Flugel's lap and yawns.
"Coming back home has put you in that good of a mood, huh Master?" Flandre mumbles as she begins to doze off. "But... it's good... that we're finally back."
"You're right," Flugel calmly says while patting Flandre's head. "It's good to be back."
