Intro

I'm not a geography buff so I haven't a clue if what I'm about to write is even accurate... but then again this is fiction... so there's that lol

- Day 5 -

She sat there for a long while debating what to do. He told her to leave. But her instincts were screaming at her to stay. He needed her. She needed to be there for him.

Hedwig sat on the left tower of the London bridge and stared across the River Thames. Her human had been in a panicked state when he sent her off. He hadn't released her to hunt or deliver a message, no... he had sent her to his friend's house for her own safety. What was worse... he smelled of fear.

The snowy white owl shook out her feathers in frustration. She was trained to listen to her human. She was a brilliant owl. Her human told her so, his friend... her human's friend...

Hedwig shifted on the ledge with indecision. Her human told her to go to his friend... he did not say which friend. Granted, her human usually meant for her to go to the red headed friend where she would be near fields filled with mice, but the bushy haired human was his friend, too... and she was at least smart. The bushy haired human would know how to help her silly human.

Decision made, Hedwig pushed off of the bridge and flew gracefully towards Kent. She had a ways to go, but she would not be dissuaded from her course.

Her human may think he was in charge, but he wasn't always right. Hedwig was simply smarter and if someone was going to be in charge of his safety, then she was the owl to do it.

Day 05 - Prompt: Bridge

AN: I hated that attempt at a short so much that I abandoned it and made the mistake of starting to read someone else's work. I should never read when I'm supposed to be writing. It never turns out well for me... three days later and I'm taking another try at writing... Fingers crossed!

- Day 8, take 2 at this same prompt... -

Most of the family were sitting around the living room. The girls were quietly reading, Emmet and Jasper were playing video games with the sound turned down exceptionally low, while Edward and Carlisle had gone off hunting. But the rest of the family was home... and they all heard her. It was impossible not to, they were all vampires with excellent hearing, after all. She couldn't get the stupid tune out of her head. She could not stop humming it.

"Rosalie," Esme reprimanded her daughter after the third time hearing the same tune repeated. It wasn't harshly said, Esme didn't have to be overly strict with her children. Her disappointment in them was enough to make any of them feel wretched... but the blonde bombshell simply stared at her adopted mother with a nonplussed look. Esme sighed softly and tried to explain to the girl, again, about taking other people's feelings into account and that, contrary to what she believed, the world did not revolve around her. Trying once more, Esme started, "While I can understand why you'd have that particular nursery rhyme in your head, the timing is simply not appropriate."

Instead of reacting as Esme expected, Rosalie blinked, still slightly confused. "Esme, I don't..."

"Many died when the London Bridge did indeed fall down."

"Oh," Rosalie bristled, "I see." Her book dropped forgotten to her lap when she crossed her arms in defiance. Emmet looked over at his mate for only a second before going back to his game. Jasper didn't react more than a humored twitch of his lip and kept his eyes on the television. She would have blushed if it was even remotely possible. Rosalie's hand whipped out in a flash of movement. Alice didn't bother ducking and accepted the clip to the back of the head. "I'm not the one humming," Rosalie said in explanation.

Esme goggled and turned her eyes to her other daughter, "Alice?"

She knew it was wrong, that it was heartless because people died... but it was there and stuck in her head. Alice winced, "Sorry?"
