Chapter 12 The Explosion
While Varian took Eugene away. It left the girls and Pascal alone. Valor walks over to the machine. "Soo... How did you end up meeting Varian?" Rapunzel asked Valor with a curious look. "That's uh... well it's hard to explain really." She admits.
"I guess in a similar manner as today but, less crazy-ish." Valor pounders. "He was trying to figure out this problem and I sort of wandered into it. Well, next thing I know we'll be working days and nights on this and that." Valor finally explains with a smile.
"So.. how did he take it when he found out you're a werewolf?" Cassandra asked her. "Because this kid doesn't believe in magic." "Oh, well. You see it was tricky. If remember correctly he fainted that day.. twice actually. For two totally different reasons. After that, he let me explain a few things he jumped on board and wanted to figure out everything there is to know about, well me. So the testing began. And because of it, little mishaps began happening here ad there. My hair ends up with a permanent purple dye streak. I lost my sense of smell for a couple of hours and my hearing a little longer."
Valor grins. "After that, I put his little ideas to rest and we've stopped." She proclaimed.
"Sure, some tests weren't practical, but I had fun. He really isn't a bad person. He may do dangerous stuff at times, and I get warped up into it, but he just really wants to help out. By doing stuff like this.." gesturing to the machine and everything. ".. so he can help his village out." Valor said with a proud smile.
"Sounds like you really like him." Rapunzel points out. Valor blinks. "Wha..? Of course. He's my friend.. and the same age as me. Sure we aren't really the same in many ways. But still. Why wouldn't I like being around him?" Valor countered quickly. Looking at them as Rapunzel gives a mischievous smile and Cassandra just smirks.
"Val, what she means is that you 'like him.' Like how Raps likes Eugene. Valor laughs nervously. "Come guys. I've only known Varian for six months. What gives you that idea? We're only friends." Valor asked.
"For one. You have been staring at him the whole time we've been here." Rapunzel points out. Valor shrugs. "So, he works around dangerous stuff. I'm just keeping a watchful eye on him." She defends. "Okay, then why are blushing?" Cassandra asked her. Valor huffed. "Look, how about we get back on track here. Which test number was it again.. 15.. 14?" Valor asked.
While Cassandra and Rapunzel whispered. "She's denying it. I can tell." Cassandra said watching her. "Well, he's sort of cute too.." "..You two ladies know I can hear you both still." Valor speaks up as she sits down where Varian was. And looking over the controls with a sly smirk.
Cassandra and Rapunzel smile at each other. They didn't forget. Valor's hearing was sharp and could pick up movement miles away. "Oh.. we know," Rapunzel adds. Valor didn't turn to face them. Her face was crimson from the embarrassment.
Then Pascal squeaks from her shoulder. Glancing as he made a heart with his hands. She sighs. "Can't you three just drop it?" Valor mutters. "I should have gone with Var and Eugene when I had the chance." She grumbles to herself.

Meanwhile, Eugene was pressing Varian on details. Details on what Rapunzel and the others were doing here. "Listen, buddy. I need you to tell me everything that the princess told you." Eugene tells him. Tired of being left in the dark.
"Oh, yeah." Varian eagerly began explaining. "Well, okay, first she said, "We're looking for Varian," and then I said, "I'm Varian," and then she said, "Uh, hi, sorry to bother you, sir, but I wanna ask you about my hair. Wait, oh, I'm sorry, let me back up. I forgot to tell you about the raccoon trap. So, there was.." "...Yes. Yes, that's great, but what I meant is tell me all the important stuff she said." Eugene interrupts him.
"Mr. Rider, when the Princesses of Corona speaks directly to you, every word is important." Varian clarifies firmly. Eugene groans in response. As they made their way to the shack.
"So, how did you end up meeting Valor? It seems you've known her for a while now." Eugene asked him as they walked to the shack.
"Lavender? Yeah.. we've met six months ago. She sort of wonder into one of my many.. many.. inventions. Since then we became friends and she's been helping me out with my many projects." Varian explains entering the shack with Eugene following.
Varian began moving things about the shack searching for the press. "I know that the press is here somewhere Flynn." He reassured him. "Again, it's Eugene." "Here it is.." he pulls off the blanket showing the press. "And, once the tests are done, it'll print the results in parchment paper.," Varian explains holding it up to show him. "..That's muy interesante, but get back too.." then the ground shook again.
"Whoa.. whoa. Why does this keep happening?" Eugene asked him. Varian gets moving Eugene away from a trap door. "Flynn Rider! I believe I promised you.." he pulls the hatch open. "..a secret."
They began to descend. "Now, if my dad knew I was down here, he'd kill me. Heh. Of course, if he knew what I was actually doing down here, he'd probably be impressed, or at least I hope he'd be impressed." Varian explains leading the way with the lantern.
"These tunnels run throughout my entire village, which makes them perfect for my project," Varian said. "What project?" "Well technically, Laver has been helping me. So, it's sort of our project now. Ah, here we are." Eugene stares wide-eyed at the huge machine before him.
The machine creeks. "I don't get it?" Eugene admits as he let Varian lead him closer. "Through the miracle of alchemy.., not magic... I found a way to heat this entire tank of water with a single drop of my newest yet to be named compound.. which I'll call Flynnoum!" He declared proudly holding out the neon glowing yellow chemical.
"I still don't get it." Eugene confuses. "I'm gonna surprise my village by bringing the people hot running water!" The machine creeks and streams. *Laughing.* "I've constructed five of these babies all throughout the caverns," Varian explains to him which now Eugene was clearly catching on. "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. These.. theses., tremors.. your machines are causing them?" Eugene asked him fearfully.
"Wha... No, no, no. My machines are not causing them. The chemical reactions they trigger do." Varian drop of a drop of the Flynnoum into red liquid causing it to burst into fire.
"And no else but, you and Wolfe. Knows you're doing this? Okay, listen, kiddo. I'm no expert in.. whatever this is, but anything that can cause earthquakes can't be got to warn people about this." Eugene tries to reason with him. "What? No! We can't! Okay? You gave me your word you'd keep this a secret. And besides, I'm an expert and this all perfectly safe." Another tremor and a screw flew lose and right between them.
Eugene looks him worriedly. "Yeah, it does.. does that all the time," Varian tells him.

The testing on Rapunzel's hair was nearing the end. "Only.. 12.. more... tests.. to... go!" Her voice was shaking as the machine rattled about. Then the bell rings. "Yaaaaay!" Valor rolls her eyes, but smiles. At least someone here was having fun.
"Team Awesome is ba-aback!" Varian sing-says as they returned from their little trip to get the press. Varian carries the press past them. "Now, Rapunzel, I know my tests have been a pain in the hm-hm." Valor shakes her head. "Aw, I wouldn't say pain." Just then the room lit up with a bright electric glow. Valor shields her eyes from it quickly.
"Y... Now I would." Valor blinking looking at her. Rapunzel hair fizzled and sparks. Varian sets the press down and hooks it up. "In a moment, this little guy.. hehe.." he kicks it. "He'll give us all the answers we want." "Woo-hoo! Answers!" Rapunzel enthusiastically said.
Cassandra looks to Eugene with a sly look. "So, Eugene!" She walks over to him. "Got yourself a secret, huh?" Like an interrogation. "If you wanna call it that. The kid ha.. uh-uh, nice try, Cass." Eugene catches himself.
Valor frowns. Trapping Varian on his shoulder. "You showed him it?" She whispers. Varian beans. "Yep, all good." Valor frowns. "Uh-Uh." She wasn't convinced. "Come on, Laver. It's perfectly safe." Varian reissues her.
Then it begs a to shake again louder. Chittering sound made her watch as Varian's raccoon fell from above and races off. Valor fixes a narrow look at him. Varian laughs nervously. "Ummm. Look Raps, I think it's time to go. Now." Eugene suggested.
Rapunzel looks over at him. "Now? You're kidding, right? This almost finished." She tells him. The machine dings as it drops to 8. "Can we talk?" Eugene asked Varian. "Uh-ha, of course! That's what Team Awesome does! Whoa!" Eugene grabs him pulling them out of the lab.

"Those things down there are dangerous!" Eugene snaps at Varian. "Dangerous? No, they're not dangerous.." "..Varian what's going on?" Valor exited the lab walking over. "Wha.. nothing. Flynn here thinks the machines below us are dangerous, but they are not. I... I adjusted my calculations for every possible outcome. The margin of error is.. is .56 percent or.. now, wait, wait, was it .57?" He asked.
"Wait? You don't remember? Var? How are you not sure?" Valor asked him. "Uh.." "Look you two I don't know anything, that was just said." Eugene addressed them both.
"Look, Varian, I think you're a good kid, a.. a.. a smart kid and you got great intentions. But, I'm asking.. pleading with you.. for the love of my life, Valor's life.."
"Hey!" She snaps at him. Eugene looks at her then back at Varian. "..and your entire village... I ask you to please shut off those machines until a seismic-quake-atologist can come inspection!" Eugene pleaded.
Valor sighs. "You're something alright. You are really good at begging for your Life now." She said to Eugene turns towards. "How are you not freaking OUT!" Valor blinks. "Should I be?" She asked him. "Because.. you just did it of all of us just now." Eugene sighed. "Does nothing phase you?" Valor narrow her icy eyes at him. "I have no right to answer that." She points out sharply.
The ground was shaking again. Both teens gave a slightly worried look. To each other then back at Eugene. He had a point though. "I suppose we can turn them down... a bit. Come, Laver." Valor hurried after him. Leaving Eugene to deal with Rapunzel and Cass.
-line break-
They hurried to the machine. Which was starting to look uh... off. "Uh... Goggles. How long has this been doing.. Uh this?" Valor gestured to the machine as it streams and shakes violently.
"Uh, All... weekend?" Varian admits. Valor sighs. "And you didn't inform me before leaving... these things have been acting up." Valor shoots him a sharp look. "Hey! I have it cover Lavender. See.. oh, hehe... I guess it was .57." He admits tapping the monitor.
"Varian!" She shouts and then leans overlooking over his shoulder. "Var, what was the one thing I asked you not to do while I was away?" She asked him.
"Not, to blow anything up. And, see everything still intact." Valor shook the head. "Let's do something before this thing destroys this place." The two broke away.
Varian leans on the table as he tightens the loose screws. Valor was on the other side doing the same. Then a crash made her look over to see the Flynnoleum knocked over and covering the ground. "No, no.. the Flynnoleum!"
The ground was shaking more. Varian began to clean it. Valor dashes over grabbing his hand pulling him along. "What are you doing? The.." "Look you can make more, but right now we have to get to the rest of these babies before they burst!" She shouts at him leading the way above ground.
Looking around. "I'll go that way!" Valor points, "and you head the other way." They need to cover as much ground as they could. Then the sound of something breaking. "There's no time, come on." He said grabbing her hand pulling her along with him.
They quickly ran towards the next closest high-pressure machine. Valor could hear the building breaking and the glass from all around. 'Okay, maybe I wasn't thinking rationally back there.'

Eugene managed to explain to Rapunzel and Cassandra what was going on. And as the last test kicks in. They were trying to stop it. But the controls weren't working.
Eugene grabs the glowing rod jamming it into the spinning machine. Bringing it to a stop. Both him and Cassandra ran over. "Give me your arm," Cassandra tells her. As they pull.
Rapunzel looks out and gasp. "Eugene!" She shouts out. They look to see Varian and Valor race by. "Varian! Valor! They're gonna get themselves killed!" Eugene shouts.
"Get her out of here. I'll get the kids." Cassandra tells him running out after the two teens.
-line break-
They had managed to turn off two of the highly pressured machine. Now three more remains. Just then something grabs them both of them. Causing Valor to jerk to a stop.
They turned to see... " Cassandra?!" "Listen you two! We gotta get outta here!" She orders. "No, no! Ugh! No, we've got three more pumps to shut off, and I can't let this happen again!" Varian said trying to pull free.
"Ahh." The fiery ball flew past them. Valor stares with wide icy blue eyes. "Uh! Guys in..COMING!" Valor shouts out directing all eyes at an incoming pipe. Then Cassandra grabs both of them pulling them towards her right. They all squeeze their eyes shut as the pipe lands right over them.
