The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: A Night in the Life of Baby Mokubo!
*WAAAAHHHHHHHH*
*Groan*
"Not again…" Kiki mumbled, throwing the blankets off her body and drowsily scrambling off the bed, drowsily dragging her feet to the door and turning the doorknob.
*Creak*
It quietly swung open as she pushed, revealing her parents trying to frantically placate her baby brother.
"Mom, Dad, it's past my bedtime…" Kiki complained, still half asleep herself.
Makoto turned to her wearily, an apologetic look in his eyes as he explained "We're sorry, Kiki, but your brother won't stop crying. He's not hungry and he doesn't need to be changed, so we're trying to figure out what he wants. Right now your Mom's trying to bounce him in her arms."
…I don't think it's working… Kiki deadpanned as she saw Mokubo continue to cry, no matter how many times she bounced him or how lovingly she cooed in his ear. At this rate, he's gonna keep me up all night! Well, desperate times call for desperate measures!
With a grumpy expression on her face, she walked over to Kyoko and without another word, snatched Mokubo into her arms, making her parents gape in shock at her audacity.
Before they could admonish her, she held Mokubo in her arms so that he was looking her in the eyes, causing him to cease crying and stare in confusion as she scolded "Hey, Moku…"
Moku? Is that your new nickname for him? Makoto and Kyoko wondered as they watched their daughter.
"…Nee-chan's trying to sleep, but she can't as long as you're crying. Dad says you're not hungry or stinky, so please, stop with the crying, alright?"
Mokubo stared curiously at his sister, a moment of silence passing between them before at last he yawned, bending forward so his head nestled on her shoulder. Kiki smiled as she rubbed his back, hearing him yawn one last time before falling asleep in her arms.
Much better…
"Well, I'll be…" Kiki looked up at her Mom, who gently smiled and whispered "You managed to calm him down just by holding him…"
Makoto nodded proudly as he whispered "Your brother must really like you, Kiki. I'd say you have the makings to be a good Mom one day yourself."
…Can't I enjoy my childhood first? Kiki sweatdropped as she saw her parents nod in agreement. Besides, I value my sleep too much to be Mom material…
The conversation came to an end though, as Makoto approached them and gently eased the slumbering Mokubo into his arms, whispering "Your Mom and I will take him back to his crib."
Kyoko nodded, bending over to kiss her daughter's hair as she gently ordered with a tired smile "Go back to bed, okay Kiki?"
Kiki nodded, yawning "…Good night Mom…good night Dad…" before turning around and walking back into her room, closing the door behind her before she fell back onto her bed, lazily drawing the covers over her body and nestling her head against the pillow before she fell back into slumber.

*Groan*
"Hm?" Kyoko groaned wearily, turning in their bed to get a glance of Mokubo in his crib, only to come face-to-face with her husband, who smiled reassuringly at her.
"It's okay, he's just mumbling in his sleep." Makoto whispered, making Kyoko sigh in relief that he wasn't waking up and crying again.
They then stared lovingly at their slumbering son, Kyoko musing "He kinda looks like you, you know."
Makoto smiled and asked "You think so? I mean…he has your hair color and all…"
Kyoko rolled her eyes and retorted "And he has one of your eyes and your brown ahoge. Trust me, he looks like you, and besides…" Kyoko smiled lovingly as she looked at Mokubo and insisted "If Kiki got to resemble me, then you're allowed to have a baby who resembles you."
"Alright, alright…" Makoto conceded, joining his wife to smile lovingly at his son as he wondered "…I wonder what he's thinking about, in that little head of his…"
"…Probably nothing, Makoto; he's not even a year old." Kyoko sweatdropped, somewhat amused by her husband.
Makoto smiled playfully at his wife as he insisted "Hey, you never know! What if he's thinking about how we don't pay teachers enough, or how how great Sayaka's old CDs sound, or how awesome the anime posters in Kiki's room look…"
"…Makoto, he's a baby. The only thing he thinks about at his age is when he wants Mama's milk and when his diaper is soiled. Other than that, he sleeps all day in Mama and Dada's arms."
"And Kiki's…"
Kyoko sighed in the face of Makoto's grin and nodded with a soft smile "…And Kiki's, on occasion. I still can't believe that she calmed him down so quickly."
Makoto nodded, smiling as he whispered "I told you he's taken a real shine to her, and she handled herself really well, just like her Mom did when she was a baby. It won't be too much longer until she's having children of her own, you know…"
Kyoko sighed and shook her head, reminding him "Makoto, she's not even seven years old. Even if we were having this conversation in ten years, I still wouldn't be ready to be a Grandmother yet. Let's…" Kyoko yawned as she insisted "…Let's enjoy the moments where they're still kids, okay?"
Makoto smiled, then kissed the tip of her nose before he nodded "Okay. What do you say we get to sleep while we still can, okay?"
Kyoko nodded drowsily, then leaned in for a quick peck on the lips before nuzzling her husband's shoulder and mumbling "Good night, Makoto…I love you…"
Makoto smiled, running a hand through her hair as he returned in a whisper "Good night, Kyoko…I love you too."
They felt slumber take them, joining their son in slumber.

"Achoo…" Kiki sneezed, mumbling "Someone's…talking about me…" before settling back into slumber, completely unaware of the conversation that had just happened elsewhere in the house.
