Chapter 21 Royal Guard Training Begins

"All right, maggots, line up!" The Captain shouts. Everyone quickly lined up. Valor, Max and Cassandra sat watching. Valor was glad she was too young to be part of the Royal Guard or do any real work still. Plus part of her wanted to see if Eugene would actually pull this off.

"This boot camp will push you to your very limits. By the time I'm through with you'll be sweating tears and crying sweats. But if you make it through camp and pass the final exam.." a yawn made the Valor look over to see Shorty standing in line. 'Why is he even here?' Yet the Captain laughs. "And same with you, that's highly unlikely if, you'll revive probationary trainee status." He said walking past them again.

"Shorty? What are you doing here?" Eugene hissed. "Sorry is this the line to the restroom?" He asked tiredly. "Well, well, looks like we got ourselves some aces in the mix." He said coming to stand in front of Eugene. "Captain, sir, I know we've had our differences, but I'd just like to say.."

"Quiet maggot!"

Valor winces at the man he had a loud voice. "You are a loathsome pathetic excuse for a human being, and it's my full intention to make your life a living nightmare." The Captain threatens. ''Is this his attempt to act threatening?'

"You know, I've never said this to another man, but you have handsome teeth." Valor groans face-palming. "He's a goner." She mutters. Loud enough for Max and Cassandra to hear.

All right, men. Your goal is to get over the wall. When I blow this whistle you go." The Captain said. "Now line up maggots!" He orders.

Once they were all lined up he blew the whistle. Valor winces rubbing her ears. A loud ring followed. With that the first person went. He fell and the other one followed.

Valor whines covering her ears and tightly closing her eyes. A sharp dull thud followed. Cassandra looks over at her with concern. "I-I'm fine. I just have really sensitive hearing." Valor said reopening her eyes. 'Stupid whistle. Stupid Headache.' She thought as they managed to tune back in, in time to see Eunge scale the first wall with ease. Using the others to boost him up.

Valor had to admit he did have some skills. 'As long as he uses what he's used before he should be fine.' She noted, but the Captain wasn't;t having it and blew his whole again. Valor winces at the sharp sound. "Maybe you should go." Cassandra said. Valor shook her head. "No, I am good. It's not too loud that I can't manage." Valor promised. 'Just wish I knew how to keep this headache in check more.'

The next thing the Captain had everyone doing was push ups. Everyone but Eugene looked to be struggling. He was confidently doing them with one arm. "Hph. I can do that." Cassandra said. "Same, that's easy. Though your dad doesn't look to pleased." Valor notes seeing the glare. Leaning on her hand she sighs. "Eugene is way over his head here."

Next up, the Captain gave everyone a crossbow and instructions. Shot the bad guys and not the Royals. Eugene was up now. Moving swiftly through the course. As the targets popped up. With great accuracy he hit them all square in the head. Leaving Cassandra, Valor and Max staring at him in aw. "Now that cool." Valor smirks.

A with a slight of foot. Valor narrowed her eyes as the Captain set up a tripwire. As Eugene walks by he trips. "Whoa." The crossbow goes off nailing the wooden king dummy. The Captain broke off laughing at him. "Crossbow procedure number one, Rider. Always keep the safety on."

The three bystanders glares at him. "He did that in purpose." Valor growls. Max nickers. Cassandra looked tricked. 'Something tells me she dealt with his antics before.' Valor thought as the test continued.

As the basic training went on. Valor watches as the Captain made it harder and harder on Eugene. He still couldn't scale the huge wall. The Captain made one of his soldiers sit on his back while doing push ups. 'This is getting ridiculous.' Valor thought. The Captain was looking very pleased with himself too.

As Eugene finally made it to the top of the wall. He was out of breath. Yet as he jumps down. He lands on a level. Which in turn the the Castle Guard who was the same man who sat on him while doing push ups jumps in the other end sending him flying backwards. Causing him to get his shirt hooked on the wall.

Valor, Cassandra and Max glares at the men who were laughing at Eugene. "That's not funny!" Valor barks loudly causing everyone even the Captain to jump. Jumping up from where she sat. Valor shifts into her wolf form. Quickly she managed to scale the wall. Leaving everyone to blink in shock. "This getting out of hand." Valor growls in anger.

"Here to gloat?" Eugene huffed. Valor narrowed her silver eyes at him. "If I was here to gloat, then why am I helping?" Valor leans down unhooking him. "Why do people young and old have act like children?" Once Eugene was free she jumps back down with him. Valor glares at the Captain who's shock expression vanished into irritation.
