Chapter 81
Sara turned away. "I don't know Em... I can't explain it because I don't understand it... I have no fucking idea what's going on in my head" said Sara. Emy put her arms around Sara. "I'm sorry... I know you're going through a rough time. Let's go for a walk. How did the session go this morning?" asked Emy trying to change the subject. "Okay I guess... we had a few good ideas but my hand is still fucked up and Tegan's lungs aren't quite there yet. It's frustrating. I just want to... play music again. I can't believe there were days when I wished I didn't have to go on stage..." said Sara. Emy just shrugged. "Don't know what you have till it's gone right..." she said. "At least I can sing... and Tee can play guitar so now we really need to work together" laughed Sara, it broke the tension between them for a minute.
Tegan sat down at the kitchen table still feeling slightly fragile while Lindsey made her a sandwich. "What's going on with Sara babe" said Lindsey. "She's just stressed I guess, and a little frustrated. She's fine..." said Tegan as Kate walked in and put the inhaler down in front of Tegan. "I want you to carry this with you at all times okay. If you feel your chest go tight like earlier you take a shot please" she said seriously. "And you need to make sure nebulize twice a day... Tegan... Do you understand? Do you know how to use the inhaler?" said Kate leaning on the table and looking into Tegan's eyes. "Yes... jeez... I understand doc. Sara's got one I know how it works" said Tegan annoyed and put the inhaler in the pocket of her jeans. "You have a hospital check up tomorrow. It's probably going to be a lengthy one. I have quite a few scans and tests to do" said Kate. Tegan sighed and rolled her eyes "Yeah... When is this going to end" she asked. "When you are 100% healthy again... D'uh" said Kate. "Okay... I didn't mean to annoy you" said Tegan sincerely. "You take good care of me Katy... thank you" said Tegan. Kate smiled. Erin walked into the kitchen and sat on one of the counter tops. "What happened to the peanut butter and jelly days Tee?" she said eyeing Tegan's healthy chicken and salad on rye sandwich and proceeded to put peanut butter on hers. Tegan looked at it longingly. "I remember those days when they were all we could afford... Good times... Anyway, these two... they have me on a special healthy... aka shitty... diet..." she said and shrugged. "Thought you wanted her to pick up weight" said Erin with her mouth full. "We do, but healthy weight. Have you seen how much she eats!" said Kate. "Peanut butter is healthy" said Tegan. "Oh our little Teetee, listen to your mommies" mocked Erin. "Shut up Erin" said Tegan annoyed and slightly embarrassed. "I'm messing with you Tee" said Erin lovingly. "Wish they'd take care of me like that too" she winked. "Here you go Tee... sharing is caring" smiled Erin and handed Tegan half of her sandwich. "You see... that's true friendship guys. Giving your last peanut butter sandwich to your friend." said Tegan and looked at Kate and Lindsey. "Not really I can just make another one" teased Erin and ruffled Tegan's hair. "I'll be your baby for a while longer... I'll allow it... guess I'll even like it sometimes... but you two need to start giving me some room to spread my wings a bit" said Tegan. "I love babying you baby" said Lindsey and sat on Tegan's lap and kissed her. "Gosh Kate let's make her some waffles or something. There's not a lot of meat on these bones" said Lindsey pretending to rub her bum. Erin pulled a wrapped gift from the cupboard. "I've got something for you guys" she smiled and handed it to Tegan. "Ooohhh a gift" said Tegan like an excited 5 year old she pulled off the wrapping paper in one go. She stared at the gift, tears welling up. It was a beautiful silver frame... inside was an enlarged version of Lindsey's first sonogram photo. "It's awesome... thank you" whispered Tegan and hugged her best friend for a long time. "You're welcome Tee" she whispered. "Best gift ever" Tegan smiled and wiped her tears away. "Our kids' first photo!"
Three security guards took Tegan and Lindsey to the hospital the next morning. Lindsey managed to have her appointment with Dr Montgomery moved so they only had to make the trip to the hospital once. "It's going to be a long day" sighed Tegan holding Lindsey's hand in the car. Lindsey turned Tegan' face towards her. "One day at a time sweetie... I love you" she smiled and kissed Tegan softly on the lips. The car had stopped in front of the hospital and a pap was already right outside the door hitting gold with the shot of Tegan and Lindsey kissing. Tegan closed her eyes and sighed. "Here we go" she said as she opened the door. Security immediately surrounded them and led them through the crowd of photographers. Tegan was all smiles and even engaged with a few of them as she walked towards the hospital doors. "No no... just a check-up. I'm doing great" she answered the many questions about her health. Many were screaming questions about the pregnancy, it annoyed Tegan but she kept smiling. She suddenly stopped in her tracks and whispered into Lindsey's ear. "Let's just confirm it now and have it over with" Lindsey looked into her eyes, nodded and smiled. "Guys, please... can we just have a little bit of air" said Tegan. Security pushed the paps further away. "Is Lindsey pregnant?" another one shouted again. "No she just got really fat... I'm kidding, I'm kidding" said Tegan and kissed Lindsey on the cheek. "Yes... she is pregnant" smiled Tegan. "We're expecting twins" said Tegan with a smile the size of the moon! "When are they due... can you give us more details... who's the sperm donor?" the questions kept coming. "We are so incredibly excited and happy. We don't have any further comments thanks." said Tegan. She lifted Lindsey's hand and kissed it as they walked inside.
