Chapter 91
"Oh hey there's Kate" said Tegan and Sara's head whipped around immediately. Kate came walking towards the house with a surfboard under her arm. The top half of her wetsuit was pulled down and she was wearing a bikini top. Sara was staring – unconsciously but still. Tegan giggled when her mouth fell open slightly. She pointed at Sara behind her back and mouthed to Erin "Somebody's got a crush". Erin's eyes went wide and she balled her fist and pulled it into her body "Yes!" she mouthed and smiled at Tegan. "Act cool" mouthed Tegan back. "Hey guys" said Kate as she reached them. Kate's body was smokin' and Sara's eyes couldn't help darting down at her washboard stomach. She bent over, shook the water out of her hair and ruffled it with her fingers. "Hey..." said Sara softly. Kate straightened her lanky body and smiled at Sara. "How was... how um was your surfing?" asked Sara. She's been lying on the beach the whole afternoon pretending to read but actually ogling Kate on her surfboard. "It was amazing thanks! You should let me teach you Sara... you'd be good at it" smiled Kate. "Nooo no I'll probably break my neck or get eaten by a shark" said Sara defensively. Kate laughed. Tegan and Erin were acting like teenagers kicking each other and stifling giggles. Sara and Kate were oblivious. After a bit of small talk Kate walked over to Tegan and put her hand on her shoulder. "How are you feeling Tegan?" she said caringly. That soft, caring side of Kate drove Sara absolutely wild. "Good... no problems... You'll be happy to hear we've been napping the whole afternoon" smiled Tegan very proud of herself. "Good. And... uh..." Kate pointed at her ribs careful for Sara not to see. "Okay... little bit tender but it's fine. Had another pain pill a bit earlier. " said Tegan. "I'll give you a quick once over after I take a shower but you look nice and rested for a change" said Kate. Sara swallowed hard to get rid of the excessive amount of saliva forming in her mouth.
After an amazing dinner on the beach everybody was sitting next to a bonfire enjoying each other's company. Alex and Erin finally broke the news about their pregnancy and celebrations were in the air. Later that evening Tegan and Sara picked up their guitars and started playing. They played covers mostly. Kate picked up a guitar out of the blue and started playing "Closer to fine" - her favorite Indigo Girls song. Sara and Tegan strummed along but Kate rocked it even though it was an exceptionally difficult song to play. Sara hasn't heard the song for years and she couldn't help but immediately relate to the lyrics, she felt as if Kate was singing to her alone. "Holy crap Kate, you're amazing... why don't you play more?" said Sara. "Thank you" blushed Kate. "Well... I guess life just gets in the way sometimes... you know..." she shrugged. "Tee we have to cover this song when we tour again" said Sara beaming. "Yeah, that will be great. Don't think we'll be able to do it as well as Kate though" said Tegan. "Agree! We can only try" said Sara "So K-dawg... have you practiced our Springsteen song yet? Apparently the show's in just more than two months" said Tegan smiling. "What?" said Lindsey frowning. "Baby... do you think you'll be ready? I'm not trying to be a downer but I'm sure you'll want to be hundred percent?" said Lindsey. "I'm sure... we'll be ready" said Tegan. "Kate? Do you think I'll be ready?" asked Tegan suddenly doubting herself. "I think you'll be ready if you put your mind to it yeah" smiled Kate. "You see Linds... relax" said Tegan and kissed Lindsey.
"You haven't answered my question about the song Kate" said Tegan. "Oh okay then let's try it" sighed Kate. "I don't know what the fuck I'm doing so go easy on me... plus we need electric guitars this is not an acoustic song" said Kate. "Let's just wing it?" said Tegan. "This is the circle of trust... there's no judgement here" she winked. Tegan started playing an acoustic version of the intro to Human Touch. Kate shook her head and joined in. "You and me we were the pretenders. We let it all slip away" sang Tegan. Kate followed with the second line "In the end what you don't surrender, well the world just strips away". She had a beautiful voice. Sara chimed in "there ain't no kindness in the face of strangers... ain't gonna find no miracles here" Tegan continued "well you can wait on your blessings my darlin.. yeah I've got a deal for you right here." Tegan kept singing with her eyes closed suddenly seeming emotional "Well I aint looking for prayers or pity... I ain't coming round searching for a crutch... I just want someone to talk to... yeah a little of that human touch... just a little of that human touch" All three continued singing the rest of the song. Kate had her eyes closed and Sara watched her lose herself in the song. She's never been more in lust. She stopped singing and playing halfway through and just stared. Everybody applauded wildly when the song finished. Kate smiled at Sara "Where'd you go Sar? We lost you in there somewhere" she said. "Um... I don't know... I forgot the words" lied Sara. "As if you'd ever forget those words" said Tegan shaking her head. "You guys just seemed so into it... I wanted to watch you... listen to you... not sing with you okay?" said Sara. "Okay enough for one night... I'm out of practice I need to ease into it" said Kate. "Out of practice my ass" said Sara. "If you want a new job you can come tour with us" she winked. "Funny.." replied Kate. "I'm serious... you're incredible" said Sara. Tegan grinned but resisted the urge to say anything.
The group sat around the fire for hours enjoying each other's company. Tegan and Lindsey started making out at one point and Sara sighed. "Hey... lovers! When are you two tying the knot already?" she asked. Tegan held her hand up to Sara to indicate that she wasn't done with her kissing session. Sara shook her head. A few seconds later Tegan came up for air, licked her lips and responded "We haven't really discussed it much yet... what do you think baby?" she asked Lindsey. "I don't care... I'd marry you tomorrow if I could" she said and snuck in another quick kiss. "Then why don't we..." asked Tegan. "Why don't we what?" asked Lindsey. "Get married tomorrow" said Tegan. "Are you serious?" said Lindsey. "Yeah... okay tomorrow may be a bit of a challenge because I want my parents to be there but... why don't we do it just before the end of the holiday... I'm down with a beach wedding. It'll be small and intimate.. but we can invite some more people if you want" smiled Tegan. "Yes! Do it guys! It will be awesome... I'll organise it all. You don't have to do a thing" exclaimed Erin. "What do you say babe? 13 days from now?" asked Tegan. "Yes Tegan... a thousand times yes" smiled Lindsey and threw Tegan down on the sand to passionately kiss her. "Hey hey it's not the honeymoon yet" said Sara. "Jeez..." she breathed and blushed glancing up at Kate. Everybody laughed and toasted the pending nuptuals. Tegan lay on the sand holding Lindsey's hand looking up at the stars. She turned her head to look at Lindsey "You and me babe" she whispered. "Me and you" smiled Lindsey.
