Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Black Heart of War. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Warhammer; Games Worship and a few others do.
Raines looked over his brothers. They were warriors, veterans of battles that Raines were knew for a fact that they would be prepared for the invasion below.
"There are slaves of the false emperor below." Raines stated as he walked through the horde of marines. "Our brothers wish to stop us from claiming the relic… But I'm sure you know we will cut them down." Raines put in as he ran his hands over his armor.
It had organic spikes growing from his arms. A banner that was made out of skulls of fallen warriors extended from his back. Raines didn't enjoy war so much as he enjoyed defeating his enemies. 2 bone like horns extended from the middle of his helmet. A flowing obsidian colored cape extended from his back. His chainaxe: Vanquisher, hung from his belt.
"Should I remind you of what we are?" Raines questioned and hummed.
His brothers started to file into Thunderhawks. He knew for a fact that almost all of his brothers wanted battle.
Raines didn't, but not because of wanting to deprive his brothers of war.
From what he had been briefed? The Imperium had a sizeable garrison on the ground. They had anticipated the idea of an attack from the Battle Barge which left off the option of simply laying siege to it.
Raine knew whoever this commander was? They were not stupid when it came down to it. Raine was interested in defeating them and it amused him.
Raines was happy to be a warrior with brains, he wasn't a brute. He could fight, however. Rains was a Chaos Marine after all.
"We will grind them into dust under our boots." Raines stated to himself and cracked his knuckles and hummed.
He piled in one of the 5 Thunderhawks being dispatched to the planet. The rest of his men would stay behind. Raines knew better then to put all his resources into a single attack.
"By now they would have known of our presence." One marine put in. Raine nodded and turned back.
"It will not matter." Raine put in and boarded the Thunderhawk.
Raine knew the Imperium would be aware of their arrival. Chaos did not visit upon a planet quietly… Still? Raines didn't expect the battle to be easy.
Raine could feel the 5 gunships slowly drop through space. Raines looked at the bolter he carried. They would be killing Guardsmen and their former 'brothers.
The Thunderhawks started to drop through the orbit of the planet. If the Imperium was smart? They would have launched fighters to intercept them. The Thunderhawks weren't the issue, their occupants would be.
Perhaps they worried more about the Battle Barge. Raine knew the Conquest could easily barrage the base… But this ran the risk of destroying the relic at question.
The Thunderhawks slowly dropped through the orbit of the unknown planet. Last he heard from one of the soldiers aboard Conquest? That the Imperium had sent forces here as an expedition. That was good, Raine didn't plan on facing the full might of the Imperium's armies.
Though part of him welcomed that fight. Raines might have welcomed the ability to strategize rather than brute force the issue.
"I do not see any defenses yet." Raines heard from the pilot. Raines blinked but said nothing at the moment.
The Thunderhawks landed in a gorge close to the base. Raines hummed and blinked before looking at the hatch which lowered slowly.
Raines marched down the ramp with his brothers. He and his men looked at the snow which fell atop their armor heads. He sighed. Raines hummed and slowly looked up.
Raines brushed off his armor. Part of him wondered just how they'd deal with the military base.
Then again? They were Black Legion. Raines knew the Imperium could be conquered.
"March." Raines ordered and crossed his arms. "We must strike their base before proper defenses are established. Raines stated with a sigh.
Even if they did reach the base? That meant dealing with their former brothers. Raines wasn't so worried about the guardsmen. They could and would be easily butchered like most Guardsmen were.
"This seems like an issue." One of the marines muttered which caused Raines to turn.
"The only issue will be reaching the base undetected." Raines stated to the soldier. "If they catch us out here? We will be unable to cut through them to the base." Raines put in which he sighed.
There was a lot of things to consider in the attack on the base. Raines planned on briefing his brothers right before they reached the base.
His warband would butcher the base down to nothing when it came down to the battle.
Raines and his brothers started their trek through the snow. The only sounds they could hear was their footsteps through the sand.
Raines hummed and cracked his neck as he continued to march.
