Chapter 103
"Hey, it's super nurse!" said Tegan and put her hands on Abby, her primary ICU nurse and one of her greatest supporters' shoulders from behind and squeezed them. "Finally I get to come say hi!" smiled Tegan as she hugged her and sat down next to Abby. "Hi Tegan! Congratulations!" said Abby. "Thank you! And thank you for coming it really means so much to me. You and I have been through a lot together" said Tegan. "We sure have! Nobody knows your veins like I do" winked Abby. "Never mind my veins, my ass too" laughed Tegan. "Yep, there's plenty of people who would love to know your ass as well as I do! Then again, they didn't have to give that bum a shot and a sponge bath every day. Although I have to admit it was better than the 80 year old's bum in the room next to you" laughed Abby. "Husband right here" said Abby's ER doctor husband John jokingly. "Yeah, yeah you're just jealous because you only got to see Tegan's ass once in the ER" she said. John shook his head and started talking to Lindsey. "Can you believe they actually gave me a week vacation time. Of course it's only thanks to Kate's intervention. We miss her! Don't keep her for too long" smiled Abby. "You deserve every minute of down time that's for sure. Wish I could send your whole team to the Bahamas for a week! I can only imagine how you miss Kate. But... we've grown quite attached to her you know. We like having her around all the time. I really don't want to send her back. Maybe we'll keep her" laughed Tegan. "She's earned this time off... Although it's a bit of a mess back in the hospital without her, her replacement is a total dick... you never heard that from me okay! I really hope it's just temporary. Anyway... she deserves a bit of down time... and love and excitement in her life" said Abby raising her eyebrows. "Oh my gosh those two are so cute together. Super adorable. They're so in love they're like school kids" laughed Tegan. "Yeah, the whole hospital is talking about it... including the head honchos by the way. I don't know how to approach this with her but they don't like her being in the spotlight like this." said Nancy. "What do you mean... in the spotlight as in dating a musician? That's total horse shit" said Tegan defensively. "I know it is but..." Nancy got cut off by Tegan. "But nothing... Kate can date whoever she wants and be as public about it as she wants." she said. "You're absolutely right. I can't help but wonder if they would've had the same problem with it if Kate was dating a male musician. Discrimination is alive and well in LA" said Abby shaking her head. "And they're probably going to get even more attention with the trial coming up... but Sara needs her Abby... This trial is going to be difficult to say the least! I'm worried about it" said Tegan seriously. "I know... don't worry. Kate's not going anywhere. I've known her so, so long and trust me, I've never seen her like this. Put a fork in her, she's done! She's found her love" laughed Abby. "And Nancy of course is kicking herself right now for not making a move earlier. She's been moping around since the news broke" said Abby. "Well... you snooze you lose! I need to find Nancy a super-hot girlfriend. I owe her. She did help save my life after all" smiled Tegan. "Yeah she did... You are looking so great Tegan! I sometimes can't believe it's the same girl that was bordering somewhere between life and death in the CCU. How are you feeling?" asked Abby. "Sooo much better. I have good days and bad days you know... but I'm getting there, bit by bit. I still get tired really fast and every now and again something goes haywire... just to slap me back down to earth when I get too cocky... I know that I'm nowhere near hundred percent yet but I know I'll get there and that's all that counts. I'm doing great actually" said Tegan. "That's fantastic Tegan. I'm proud of you. I brought you a card with messages from everyone at the hospital. Karev and Altman are so pissed off that they have to work. And Adison sends her best wishes, she would have love to be here but she had a couple of babies to deliver" said Abby handing Tegan the envelope. "Thank you! That's so special. Those guys are the best! I better go... I need to go dance with Bruce I owe him one" smiled Tegan. "Thanks again for coming Abby. It's an honour to have you here" smiled Tegan.
"Time to throw the bouquet and the garter" said Erin into the microphone. "All the single ladies and guys... we're just going to mix you up here... I want all of you on the dance floor" she said. Sara didn't move. "I'm looking at you Sara Quin" said Erin. Sara blushed and shook her head. "Come on Sar... do it for Tegan" said Kate and pulled her up. Sara stood towards the back of the crowd on the dance floor. "Okay Linds get up on the chair and throw that sucker. Don't trample each other singles... and we don't want any blue eyes" said Erin. Stephen and Bruce lifted Lindsey onto the chair. She looked over her shoulder and smiled. The bouquet of simple white lillies flew over her shoulder and through the air. It landed in the hands of Sara Bareilles and Sara sighed. "Phew dodged that one" she joked. Sara B jumped around excitedly. "Yay! Go figure... I don't even have a boyfriend" she joked. "Okay my turn" said Tegan quickly. She put her head under Lindsey's dress. "Not so fast, no hands" said Erin and held her hands behind her back. Tegan felt Lindsey's smooth leg under her cheek and it turned her on! She slid her tongue slowly up Lindsey's leg from her ankle until she found the garter. "Hey what's taking so long Tegan. You're abusing the situation" joked Erin. Tegan kissed Lindsey's thigh sensually a couple of times and breathed in her familiar scent before taking the garter between her teeth sliding it down her leg slowly. Lindsey was grinning and blushing like a thirteen year old. "Kate should we send some oxygen in there she's been gone a long time" said Erin just as Tegan's head appeared with the garter between her teeth. She smiled a massive gummy smile. "Victory!" she exclaimed holding it into the air. Stephen and Bruce lifted her onto a chair next to Lindsey. "That was hot" whispered Lindsey and kissed Tegan's cheek. "Hmm and that was just a preview" winked Tegan. "Ooohh can't wait... Aim well baby" she said. Tegan turned around and launched her grenade. Sara stood with her arms crossed looking annoyed. She saw the dreaded item approach in slow motion. People jumped in front of her but it flew straight over them. The garter landed right on Sara's chest and she took it with her one hand. "Yay?!" she said looking petrified with wide eyes. Tegan whooped and cheered. "Looks promising babe" said Kate seductively and pulled Sara into a hot kiss. "Oh fuck it! This is cool" said Sara laughing as before kissing Kate again. 'Love is in the air' started playing and Kate and Sara danced and laughed in each other's arms. "I love this song... dance with me baby! Damn this wedding is such a cheese fest... I love it!" said Tegan. "Just the way you like it" winked Lindsey and started dancing with her wife.
"Baby, please play me something on the piano" said Lindsey as she was kissing Tegan's neck on one of the couches. "You know how I love it when you play piano... please, just one" asked Lindsey. "Really? I don't know babe... I think they're all sick of my singing by now, besides I'd rather be making out" said Tegan and continued kissing Lindsey. "Please snookums!" whined Lindsey. "Oh alright then! But just because I love you so much and I'm counting on getting some tonight" joked Tegan. She spoke to the DJ and the music stopped when the song finished. She walked up to the mic. "Hey everyone! Are you having a good time?" she asked. The guests cheered and Tegan smiled "Awesome! What a party eh! We're having the best day ever! I've had a request from my beautiful bride... and you know I can't refuse my bride on her wedding day" winked Tegan. "She loves it when I play piano... don't know why because I'm not that great at it... " said Tegan. "Are you kidding, you're amazing" shouted Lindsey. Tegan blushed "Thanks sweetie you're good for my ego... So anyway... she wants me to play something. We don't really have any piano songs though so I'm going to sing you a song that reminds me of Lindsey every time I listen to it. It's by the piano man himself, Billy Joel. That's setting the bar quite high so please don't judge me too harshly. Friends, please take your beloved in your arms and dance... don't look I feel self conscious about this one" laughed Tegan. She took Lindsey by the hand and led her to the grand piano. "I want you right here where I can see you" smiled Tegan. Lindsey leaned against the piano, she put her camera to her face and took a photo of Tegan. "You see, this is our foreplay. I sing to her and she takes photos of me... Ok guys on the dance floor please... Baby, these words are exactly what I feel in my heart... every word" said Tegan into the microphone. The couples started dancing as Tegan started playing the most beautiful, sincere rendition of "She's got a way" the audience has ever heard. She closed her eyes as the words left her mouth. "She's got a way about her, I don't know what it is, But I know that I can't live without her, She's got a way of pleasin', I don't know what it is, But there doesn't have to be a reason anyway. She's got a smile that heals me, I don't know why it is, But I have to laugh when she reveals me. She's got a way of talkin'. I don't know why it is, But it lifts me up when we are walkin' anywhere. She comes to me when I'm feelin' down, Inspires me without a sound, She touches me and I get turned around. She's got a way of showin', How I make her feel. And I find the strength to keep on goin'. She's got a light around her. And everywhere she goes, A million dreams of love surround her everywhere" Tegan finished the song and the crowd erupted in massive applause. Lindsey sat down on Tegan's lap and kissed her. "That was so incredibly beautiful boo" said Lindsey. "You make me so happy!"
A few hours later the party had died down and the remaining friends and family were sitting on blankets and pillows next to a large bonfire on the beach in the early morning hours. Kate took a spare blanket and put it over Tegan and Lindsey "Stay warm guys" she said. Her constant concern for Tegan was heartwarming. Erin handed Tegan and Lindsey mugs with hot chocolate and Sara put some extra pillows behind them. "Thank you guys" smiled Tegan. Their muso friends took turns playing sweet, acoustic love songs on guitars. "Remember the after party tomorrow on the yacht everyone. I don't want this to end. We have some of the biggest super stars in the world serenading us, how great is that" said Tegan smiling. "Thank you guys for making our day so special. We love you so, so much. A day filled with the best things in the world, love, music, dancing, photos, friends and family... we're blessed beyond words" said Lindsey and pulled Tegan closer. She lay back against the pillows and put Tegan's head on her chest as Mary started singing "She keeps me warm" Everybody was singing along softly holding their significant others. Ellen winked at Tegan, "Thanks for sharing this great day with us" she said. Tegan smiled weakly, she was exhausted but happy, warm and loved... she felt safe in the arms of her wife. She drifted into sweet sleep. Sonia looked at the beautiful face of her sleeping child in the glow of the bonfire. She put her hand on Stephen's knee. "We did good with these two Steve" she whispered. "We sure did, I'm so proud" he said softly, smiling at Sonia.
