Chapter 115
Tegan heard hushed whispers, beeps. She tried to remember where she was before opening her eyes. She gasped. "Lindsey... where's Lindsey... is she okay... are my kids okay" she said and tried sitting up as tears started rolling down her cheeks. "Tegan calm down... just relax. Tegan... calm down" said Sara. "How the fuck do you want me to calm down" screamed Tegan yanking off monitor leads. People came running in to check on her. "She's okay Tegan... she's okay and so are the babies. Please just calm down or they'll put you under again" said Erin. "Where is she? Where... please I need to see her... please take me to her" moaned Tegan. Kate rushed into the room. "Tegan, she's fine... she's okay. I'll take you to her just calm down first" said Kate. Tegan lay back and put her arm over her eyes still crying. "What's wrong with her... what happened" she asked softly. "She just had a bit of a scare... she was so exhausted" said Kate while checking Tegan's vital signs. "Her BP dropped a lot quite suddenly causing her to lose consciousness. It's not uncommon for this to happen. It occurs because the circulation expands during pregnancy and hormonal changes cause the blood vessels to dilate, leading to a lowering of blood pressure. The blood pressure begins to fall in early pregnancy and is usually at its lowest sometime around the start to thethe middle of the second trimester. Her sky-high stress levels obviously also added to it. I'm not going to lie to you... The babies were in a bit of distress there for a while but they're okay now. Addison's got Linds on a foetal monitor. She's sleeping now. She's okay Tee... She's just going to need some bed rest for a few days, we want to make sure those babies don't get any ideas of coming out soon. And we need to keep a close eye on her vitals too. Hey... shhh don't cry Tee. We're going to make sure everything remains under control ok" smiled Kate and rubbed Tegan's hand. "Thank you Kate...This is all my fault... all my fault" cried Tegan with her face in her hands. "It's not your fault Tegan. Calm down" said Kate softly. "It is... she's been under such incredible stress these last few days... and it's all because of me" said Tegan. "Tee... it's not your fault you're in here. You didn't make yourself sick okay" said Sara. Tegan swallowed hard. "Yeah it is... Listen whatever... please can I go see her now" asked Tegan softly. "Okay... I want you out of this bed and moving around pretty soon anyway" said Kate. "Abby's going to remove the catheter and I'm going to remove the monitors for a little while so you can go see her. Just keep the portable pulse ox on for me" said Kate. Sara bit her bottom lip. She felt like bawling her eyes out. She folded her arms over her stomach that was cramping from worry and lack of food. Kate's hand brushed her shoulder and Sara looked up. Kate smiled and winked at her and nodded indicating that everything was fine.
Tegan got out of bed weakly helped by Sara and Kate. She felt woozy again but she needed to get to Lindsey. She sat down in the wheelchair and closed her eyes while flexing her arms that were now aching. She still had quite a variety of IVs going into her arms and one into her neck. "Arms a bit sore buddy?" asked Kate. "It's nothing" mumbled Tegan. "They've been poked with needles way too much... they're going to hurt for a while. Listen while we're on the subject. You're going to need more of those immune boosting drips, especially now and you have a course of IV antibiotics to complete after surgery. I cannot continue inserting new IV lines in your arm all the time so I'm going to insert a central line under your clavicle" said Kate. "Ahh fuck" complained Tegan. Just for a week or two Tegan, we need to have a line in you and this way we can keep it open for meds, fluids, blood tests...It's either that or I'm keeping you in hospital until you don't need any IV fluids anymore" said Kate. "Yeah... whatever you think" said Tegan dejected rubbing her temples. "Hey bud... this is a team effort okay" said Kate. "Okay... can we talk about this later? We need to go now" said Tegan, anxious to get to Lindsey.
Kate wheeled Tegan into the room where Lindsey was being treated. Tegan immediately burst into tears when she saw her wife on the bed looking pale and exhausted. "Hey Tegan... she's okay" whispered Adison and dropped to her haunches in front of Tegan. "We're taking good care of her"she said softly patting Tegan's knee. "We're just keeping an eye on your wife and babies' heart rates right now and making sure doesn't go into premature labour. We're giving her some intravenous meds and fluids and we're putting her on strict bed rest for the next few days to stabilise her BP... maybe longer depending on how things go. Everything looks okay right now Tegan" said Addison gently. "Thank you" breathed Tegan through her tears. Kate wheeled Tegan next to Lindsey. "We're going to give you a few minutes" she smiled. "Here's the call button if you need anything Tegan... if you feel anything weird please call me" said Kate while covering Tegan's knees with a blanket. Tegan nodded and held Lindsey's hand, her chin started quivering, she felt her ribs and her trachea hurt as she stifled sobs. She felt as if she was going to throw up any second but she knew it was nerves and nothing else. She didn't say anything, careful not to wake Lindsey up. She was next to Lindsey's bed for a few minutes only so far and she felt as if she was going to have a panic attack, a heart attack or both. She didn't understand how her family and friends managed to sit next to her bed for weeks on end. A few minutes later Sara and Erin entered and sat next to Tegan without a word. Another fifteen minutes later Tegan started to nod off through the pain that was creeping back as the pain meds started wearing off. Her body had been through so much and she really struggled to force herself awake. Sara looked at Tegan and got up to go find Kate.
"Come on buddy. We're moving you and your wife into the same room. You need to get some restyou're pretty out of it" said Kate and started wheeling Tegan out. "Teegs..." said a soft, weak voice.Tegan snapped her head around. "Linds... baby" she said as she put her feet down to stop the wheelchair. "I'm here... I'm right here" she said and pushed herself up. "Easy Tegan sit down" barked Kate pushing her back down. Tegan grabbed Lindsey's hand as soon as she was next to her. "Hey sweetie... you're okay... Oh God I love you... don't scare me like that" said Tegan. "I love you too Tegan. I'm so happy to see you up and about" said Lindsey softly touching Tegan's cheek. "How are you feeling boo?" asked Tegan. "I'm fine Tee... I'm so sorry for scaring you. I'm sorry" said Lindsey. "You don't have anything to be sorry about... I'm the one who put you here" said Tegan looking down. "Tee... let's not do this. Let's not blame ourselves. Let's just make sure we take care of each other and our babies from now on" said Lindsey. "Yeah" whispered Tegan.
Sara was pacing around the hallways waiting for Kate to finish with Tegan. She moved into a waiting area and dialled their manager. "Tom... Hi it's Sara. Yeah sorry for not getting back to you earlier... Um... She's okay I guess. That's why I wanted to talk to you... I think you should cancel the show Tom... I don't know, Tee's pretty weak after surgery. No they didn't say how long she'll take to get over it but I don't think we have enough time... Well what the hell do you want us to do? It's not exactly in our control... Yeah it sucks but I don't want to put too much pressure on her... I know it's all over the media, I'll post a statement later today" said Sara. Kate entered as Sara was finishing her conversation. She kissed her softly. "What was that all about?" asked Kate. "Work" Sara sighed. "Tom's flipping out of course... apparently the media is already all over this. And now with us cancelling the show..." said Sara shaking her head. "Hang on... you're cancelling the show?" asked Kate confused. "Yeah well... we don't really have a choice do we?" shrugged Sara. "How does Tegan feel about this?" asked Kate. "She doesn't know... but I mean... what can she say" said Sara. "Sar... I don't think you should cancel" said Kate. "What? Am I hearing your right?" said Sara. "Yes... you're hearing right. I think that Tegan will be fine by then" said Kate. "Well even if she is, we need to rehearse and she's not even close to well enough after surgery to do that" said Sara frustrated. "She'll be ready in a few days... you're not going to be rehearsing on the days you're in court anyway. What day is it? Saturday... Tegan will probably be okay to start rehearsing, although slowly, towards the end of next week" said Kate. "I don't know" said Sara shaking her head. "Sar... the needs something to work towards. You both do" said Kate holding Sara's hands. "And the babies... as things are going now she may be a mom by then" said Sara. "Everything is fine with the babies. They will probably be early but not that early" said Kate. Sara buried her face in Kate's neck. "Sara... I know this scares you... but... you have to take this chance. It doesn't have to be the best, flawless show ever... people just want to see you guys play music again" said Kate. "You're right. I have this horrible feeling that if we don't do this show now we're... well we're... never going to do it. I don't want our band to end Kate" said Sara becoming emotional. "I know... it won't baby" said Kate kissing Sara's hair. "Shit let me phone him back before he cancels it!" said Sara. "Okay... and then I'm taking you out for lunch... in the cafeteria... so fancy!" laughed Kate. "Thanks Kate... you're amazing" said Sara.
A/N: The show must go on! Glad Lindsey is okay for now. Forgot to say there's a new playlist up on Tumblr.
