Chapter 129

The rest of the practice session had a bit of an atmosphere and one or two disagreements but was very successful, musically at least! "Sara... thanks for today... I... I'm really sorry I let you down" said Tegan sincerely, it was clear that Sara being mad at her really bothered her. "You didn't let me down Tegan... you never let me down" said Sara and pulled Tegan in for a hug. Since Tegan got out of the hospital they've been much more generous with their hugs. "Sorry I over reacted" said Sara. "I'm going for a run now... see ya Tee" said Sara. "Can I come?" asked Tegan. "I don't think you're ready for gym today Tegan... maybe tomorrow" said Kate. Tegan looked sad and packed her guitar away. "Sorry Tee" said Sara. "No problem, was just looking forward to a change of scenery. Guess I'll go do my lung exercises" said Tegan and rolled her eyes. Sara shrugged and left the room.

"Is she running in the street?" asked Tegan. "Nooo no no... she's running on the treadmill. I don't think she's quite ready for the streets yet. She still gets pretty nervous when she goes out" said Kate. "I just want her happy and safe" smiled Tegan. "You know, you're not a bad babysitter Kate... I like having you around, I don't know if I like sharing you though" said Tegan and smiled. She was over the moon with Sara and Kate's relationship but she had to admit to herself that some days she felt jealous. Jealous that Kate, who was her friend first, spent more time with Sara. She didn't like that feeling but she acknowledged it. "Hey... why don't you and Erin and I go out to dinner tomorrow night, just the three musketeers? Like in the old days" smiled Kate. "I'd love that" said Tegan. "I think Erin needs to get out of here too... I just need to clear it with Linds" said Tegan. "Sure. You do that and I'll chat to Erin" said Kate. "I'll be down around 7 for your check up" said Kate. "Of course you will" said Tegan and started walking the short distance back home.

"Honey... I'm home" joked Tegan when she walked in the door. "Linds... baby?" she said with a question in her voice. She walked over to the room and found Lindsey asleep on the bed. She smiled and silently turned around. "Teegs" she heard a soft voice say. "Hey you! Did you have a nice nap?" asked Tegan sitting down on the edge of the bed putting her hand on Lindsey's back. "No... I missed you next to me" said Lindsey and pulled a sad face. "I'm here now sweetheart. How are you feeling?" asked Tegan and softly kissed Lindsey's forehead. "Okay... just tired" said Lindsey. "What are you two peanuts doing to your mommy?" said Tegan and tickled Lindsey's belly. "Aaaand... there it is!" said Lindsey with a smile as she felt the babies start to stir. "They love the sound of your voice Tegan" said Lindsey. Tegan grinned from ear to ear with her hands on Lindsey's belly. "Really? How about a song?" asked Tegan. Lindsey smiled at her in the half dark room. Tegan started singing. "You, in a simple red womb..." she fell back on the bed as she laughed out loud holding her stomach and slapping the bed cracking up. "It's so wonderful to see you laughing and happy again" smiled Lindsey. "I've been happy all along babe... just not healthy and laughing" said Tegan and planted a kiss on Lindsey's belly.

"You're not supposed to be exercising until your ribs are healed" said Sara as Kate entered the state of the art home gym. "Relax... just a few leg exercises. The ribs are better!" said Kate. "I'm not so sure about that... take it easy!" said Sara. "I don't even feel it anymore... a little bit of easy cycling won't hurt my ribs" said Kate rolling her eyes. Sara was running almost flat out on the treadmill. She was sweating and breathing heavily. It felt good to get rid of her frustrations. She slowed down a few minutes later and eventually stopped as Kate stared at her on a stationary bike. Sara wiped her face with a towel. "You... make me shy" said Sara out of breath and flicked Kate with the towel. "Sorry... I can't help staring" said Kate softly while looking into Sara's eyes, the sexual tension between them was palpable.

"Baby... when are we moving to your place?" asked Sara. "Um... I should have Tegan off the central line in a day or two but... after last night I... don't know... let's see how it goes. Anyway, I have to kick Karev out of my place first. He said he needed a place to stay for a few nights and that was two months ago. He's just lazy to find his own place but I promise I'm kicking him out tomorrow" said Kate. Sara shook her head as she stretched. "You're too nice you know that" said Sara. "I'm sorry Sar... soon" said Kate. "I understand... and I'm concerned for Tegan too... and I definitely don't want a roomy... but I just want a little bit of normality again you know. And I want to enjoy you... in our own space... just the two of us" said Sara and looked at Kate.

Kate got off the bike and walked up to Sara. She took her hands in hers and attacked her lips with her own. "I'm all sweaty" said Sara panting. "I know... I like it" whispered Kate and pushed Sara against the wall with her hands over her head. "You taste so good" whispered Kate as her hands made their way through Sara's sweaty hair and down to her bum. "Ugh you're so incredibly... fuckable" grunted Sara. Kate pushed Sara towards the magnificent Swiss shower. She put her hands under Sara's tight gym top and pulled it up. "Do you have exercise in things that are so damn hard to take off" mumbled Kate. "Hang on babe... somebody could come in" said Sara. "I locked the door" said Kate kissing Sara's breasts. "Oh so you had plans all along... no wonder you sent Tegan home" said Sara smiling, pulling Kate's face up. "Guilty as charged" shrugged Kate and pulled the rest of Sara's sweaty clothes off.

Tegan and Lindsey were making their baby supply list after a dinner on the patio. Lindsey had her feet on Tegan's lap and was leaning back against the couch pillows. "They need so much stuff!" laughed Tegan. "Can't we just buy a pre-packed baby starter kit... you know like a school supplies kit" smiled Lindsey. "Well that's no fun" said Tegan and poured Lindsey some more juice. "No more for me Boo... I've been having the worst case of heartburn today" said Lindsey. "Ohh poor thing... We'll ask Addison about it tomorrow when you have your check-up" said Tegan and kissed Lindsey's hand. "I'm bored during the day without you Tee... without working... I can only read so many baby books. I really, really want to get up and help with the house" said Lindsey. "Baby... they said you should take it easy and stay still as much as possible" said Tegan. "It's not possible to stay still much longer" said Lindsey. "Linds... I don't want to fight with you over this. Get the decorators to come here" said Tegan. "I'm not going to climb Everest you know" said Lindsey. "Let's see what Addison says tomorrow" said Tegan trying to avoid a fight. "Yeah" said Lindsey looking annoyed.

"You know I would be here with you every second of every day if I could sweetheart... but Sara and I need the practice... After the show I'm all yours... one hundred percent. Maybe you can come watch tomorrow? Take some photos – while seated! I really want to send out a nice update to the fans soon. So they know we're still around and we're working" smiled Tegan. "I would love that so much! How'd it go today?" asked Lindsey. Tegan shook her head. "Awful... Sara was in a stinker of a mood and I kept fucking up which just made things worse" said Tegan. "Do you think she'll let you out of there for a few hours somewhere in the next few days?" asked Lindsey. "Well... she's already letting me out tomorrow to go with you to your check-up... And then I have my own check-up in a few days and you know those scans take hours... I don't know, right now I just don't want to piss her off... why?" said Tegan. "I really want to organise a pregnancy photo shoot... and I want you in the photos. I really don't want to leave it much longer because my belly is just getting way too big now" said Lindsey. "That sounds awesome... I'll speak to Sara. I think she'll understand" said Tegan.

A few minutes later Sara and Kate were walking down to the guest house giggling. Kate had the arm on her non-injured side over Sara's shoulder and kissed her cheek. Sara's mood seemed to have improved about a thousand percent. "Ahhh young love" said Tegan looking at them approaching. "What's so funny" smiled Tegan. "Nothing" giggled Sara. "Ooooo Kate, you're so awwweeesome" teased Tegan and fluttered her eyelids. "Well... what can I say, she is" said Sara and shrugged. "Feeling better this evening" asked Kate trying to change the subject. "Much... thank you" said Tegan. "Can I pour you guys a glass of wine? Something else? It's such a beautiful evening I thought we could just hang out for a while. You know... not rehearsing... not doctoring anyone" said Tegan. Kate looked down at Sara for confirmation. Sara nodded, "Sounds great Tegan, thanks" she said.

"Poor Erin and Alex, they have this big charity event tonight and Erin is so not in the mood for it" said Kate. "Erin's a trouper! Has she forgiven Alex yet?" laughed Tegan. "What... was Alex in trouble today too? And did you two discuss strategy?" joked Lindsey. "Well I need an ally Linds" laughed Tegan and kissed Lindsey. "When I saw them earlier they were pretty loved up so I assume the truckload of flowers delivered earlier did the trick" grinned Kate. "Flowers... so last season. My song and my gift was way better" said Lindsey and winked at Tegan. "Cheesed it up again Tee?" joked Sara. "Better believe it! You know what guys... it makes me so, incredibly happy... that all of you are happy... and kind of healthy and in love... So, so happy" said Tegan becoming emotional.

Tegan poured Kate and Sara a glass of wine and got a non-alcoholic beer and a sparkling water out of the fridge for her and Lindsey. "You're not on antibiotics anymore Tee... a glass of wine isn't the end of the world" said Kate. "I know... but I've decided not to drink if Lindsey can't drink. And I guess it's going to still be a while since she wants to breastfeed, don't you Boo" said Tegan kissing Lindsey's head. "Have you guys decided on names yet?" asked Kate. "Oh let me guess, baby Sara and ..." joked Sara. "You know we'd love that but it would get confusing" winked Tegan. "So what are they?" asked Sara. "Our secret! We have two boy names and two girl names... but we want to see them first before making a final decision" said Lindsey. "Yeah, some people plan on a name and then when they see the baby they decide on something completely different. They say the baby just looked like a... a Sara or whatever" said Kate.

"Kate... now that we have you here... We would like to ask you something" said Tegan. "Oh okay... that sounds serious" said Kate. "Kate... you know how incredibly special you are to us... Lindsey and I have been talking about this and we were wondering if you would consider... I mean only if you feel comfortable... if it's okay with everyone involved... if you can't we understand and..." said Tegan before being cut off by Kate. "Just spill it Tegan... what do you want to ask" said Kate. "We were wondering if you would deliver our babies. It would be so special to be able to tell them one day that their aunt Kate delivered them" said Tegan. Kate stared at Tegan for a few seconds and swallowed hard. "Kate?" said Tegan. "Of course I would Tegan... I would love nothing more. I'd be so honored" said Kate and tears started flowing. Tegan hugged her friend tight. "You'd be doing us the honor. Thank you... Love you buddy" she whispered. "Love you guys too" said Kate. "We'll have to clear it with Addison though... and of course she would be there, she's the expert... but yeah... the answer is yes... if everything works out that way I'd love to do it" said Kate. "I'll feel more comfortable with you there anyway... even if you didn't do anything" said Lindsey. "Do you think Addison would mind? I don't want to step on any toes" said Tegan. "Tee, she delivers hundreds of babies. I'm sure she'll be okay with letting me deliver two. But I'll be happy to speak to he with you if you want" said Kate.

"I've actually had a lot of time to think recently... something I never have. I'm considering changing my speciality" said Kate. "Really? Why? To what? Obstetrics? I don't know... Because let's face it, you're a fucking genius at what you do" said Tegan. "Thanks Tee... I'm considering pediatrics actually. So not taking the babies out but treating the babies... and the kids" said Kate. "Wow... why the change?" asked Sara. "I just feel as if... I don't know... I need a change. I've always loved kids and I think I'm good at treating them. I feel as if I can make a difference there. I'd still be a surgeon... but for little people" smiled Kate. "You'd be great at it sweetie" smiled Sara and kissed Kate. "Thank you... your support means a lot guys. It would be easy for me to switch because that's what I started off as and for some reason... not sure why... I moved to adults. Not that I'm regretting my decision but I need something... I don't know... being an Intensivist is just..." said Kate. "Intense?" said Sara. "Exactly" said Kate. "Katy... wouldn't treating kids be even more difficult... and emotional?" asked Tegan. "Probably" shrugged Kate. "Well I'll be happy if you can be my kids' doctor that's for sure" smiled Tegan. "You've had good practice with this big kid" winked Sara and pointed at Tegan.

The girls spent a lovely, relaxed evening on the patio chatting. Two hours later Erin and Alex joined them. "How was the charity bash" asked Tegan. "Exhausting! My feet are killing me! But good thanks... I think we did some good work" smiled Erin. "Lots of questions from the media though" said Alex looking annoyed. "Erin... I think we should do the interview" said Tegan. "I agree... we have to" said Sara. "Hmmm... get the story out there once and for all so they can drop it" said Erin. "Yeah... I think we're all ready to talk about it... unless I'm wrong and you guys aren't ready, which I can completely understand and respect" said Tegan. "I'm ready... I think" said Sara. "Yeah... me too... Alex?" asked Erin. "Okay... we can do it" said Alex shaking his head, still not looking completely convinced. "Lindsey, Kate?" asked Tegan. "Tee... it's not about us. They'll be focusing on you" said Lindsey. "We can do it without you if you prefer... but knowing Oprah... she's going to want you guys in on it" said Sara. "I'm okay with it if it's what you want to do" said Lindsey. "Sure... but I'll have to get the okay from the hospital board" said Kate. "After the show though... because I don't think either of you two should have that kind of pressure before if you can prevent it" said Lindsey. "Agreed" said Tegan suddenly looking scared.
