Chapter 143

Tegan woke up in the middle of the night and heard Lindsey vomiting violently in the bathroom. She sat on the side of the bed for a second and shook her head to get rid of her grogginess before going into the bathroom. "Sweetheart... are you okay... what can I do for you?" asked Tegan holding Lindsey's hair back as the second round of dry heaves came. "Nothing... go back to bed Tegan I'm okay" said Lindsey rinsing her mouth. "Can I go make you some ginger tea? That should make you feel a bit better?" said Tegan rubbing her eyes. "You need some rest Tegan... you're exhausted. Go to bed" said Lindsey looking into Tegan's bloodshot eyes. Dark circles were forming underneath them. Tegan took Lindsey's hand. "Come... I'm going to put you right back in bed and then I'm going to make you some tea. I don't want to hear a word from you" winked Tegan and led her back to bed.

Lindsey obliged and lay down on the bed and Tegan walked to the kitchen bumping into the wall. Sonia woke up with all the commotion and walked into the kitchen. "Tegan? It's 3.30 in the morning... everything okay" asked Sonia. "Sorry for waking you mom... everything's fine, Lindsey's just a bit nauseous. Go back to bed" said Tegan and yawned. Sonia ignored her. She took Tegan's face in her hands and looked into her tired eyes. "You feeling okay honey?" she asked looking concerned. "Sure... just tired" said Tegan. "You've always been pale when you wake up but right now you're almost translucent" said Sonia. "I'm fine mom... stop worrying. I'm not your little girl anymore" said Tegan and turned away to get a cup out of the cupboard. Tegan leaned on the counter and closed her eyes. "Doesn't work that way. You'll always be my little girl. Dizzy?" asked Sonia with her hand on Tegan's back. "Uh huh... actually I just feel like I'm going to fall asleep standing up" joked Tegan. "Go to bed. I'll bring the tea" said Sonia. "Thank you mom... it's good to have you here" smiled Tegan and headed back to the bedroom.

"Mom's bringing the tea Boo" said Tegan getting back into bed. "Tegan I can't believe you got your mom to make the tea... why is she awake?" asked Lindsey. "Because we were noisy? I don't know? She insisted!" said Tegan lying down. "She's a guest" said Lindsey. "She's my mom... what did you want me to do?" said Tegan sounding annoyed. "Hey Linds... here's your tea" said Sonia entering the room after a few minutes. "Thanks Sonia... that really wasn't necessary" said Lindsey sweetly. "Tegan looked a bit out of it so..." said Sonia. Lindsey looked at Tegan lying on her back, already fast asleep again. "Are you okay Lindsey?" asked Sonia sitting down on the bed. "I'm fine... Just tired and I get these nauseous spells every now and again. Other than that I feel remarkably good" said Lindsey. "I hear you... the last trimester of carrying Tegan and Sara was absolute torture. Double trouble" said Sonia laughing. "It's just so difficult to sleep... and so uncomfortable... but I wouldn't change it for the world. It's quite an experience" Lindsey smiled. "Yeah it's amazing. I hope Tegan has the opportunity to experience it one day" said Sonia. "She's going to be an amazing mother. And it's all because of your great example Sonia. Thank you" said Lindsey and smiled.

Sara felt a soft kiss on her forehead and opened her eyes. "Morning beautiful" said Kate softly standing next to the bed. "Hmmm... morning" said Sara and stretched groggily. "Go back to sleep, I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to walk down to Tegan's and check on her real quick and then I'm going for a run" whispered Kate. "You look hot in your running gear" said Sara smiling and pulled Kate's hand. "But you look better out of it" she said. Kate laughed. "I'm way behind on my marathon training. Go back to sleep... I'll see you in a couple of hours" said Kate. "Hours! Nooo... I want to do the marathon with you" said Sara getting up. "Shhh... we'll discuss it later. Go back to sleep, you need it" said Kate. "Hmmm okay, maybe just for a few minutes" said Sara yawning. "I've put out some breakfast and coffee for you and the dads... phone me if you need anything" said Kate. "Okay... love you. Stay safe" said Sara and let go of Kate's hand.

"Morning Sonia. Sorry again for waking you last night" said Lindsey walking into the kitchen where Sonia was making coffee. "No problem Linds... did you sleep okay after the tea?" asked Sonia. "I did actually" smiled Lindsey. "Tegan still out?" asked Sonia. "Yup... I haven't seen her sleep like this in months" said Lindsey. "She deserves the rest... what a great show huh" said Sonia.

Half an hour later Kate knocked on the door after being let through the gate by the security guard. Lindsey and Sonia were bonding on the living room couches. "I'll get it" said Sonia getting up. "No I'll..." said Lindsey. "Take it easy Lindsey... I'll get it" said Sonia. "Morning guys" smiled Kate. "Look at you... running after all that action last night" said Lindsey. "I haven't actually done any running yet. I usually find I feel better and a lot more energised after running... I have to force myself though" laughed Kate. "Still... it's very impressive" said Lindsey. "I just wanted to come check on you and Tegan before my run" said Kate. "She's still out for the count" said Lindsey. "Did she have a good night? Did you have a good night?" Kate asked Lindsey. "She woke up from my puking in the middle of the night but she was pretty much out of it again as soon as her head hit the pillow" smiled Lindsey. "You were vomiting?" asked Kate looking concerned. "A bit... Adison said it's nothing to worry about... it's normal in the third trimester" said Lindsey. "Uh huh... can I check your BP real quick?" asked Kate. "I guess" said Lindsey. "BP looks just fine supermom. You're doing so great. Drink lots of fluids please. Let me go check on the other mom" said Kate.

Kate walked into Tegan's room. It was dark with the curtains drawn. Tegan lay on her stomach clutching a pillow, legs spread wide. Kate smiled and sat down softly next to her. She took her stethoscope from around her neck and put it in her ears. She grinned when she saw the large drool spot on Tegan's pillow. She put the stethoscope on Tegan's back and listened to her breathing for a while. She really didn't want to wake her up. She looked so peaceful. She softly turned her on her back. Tegan had a goofy grin on her face. "Baby... come here I want the Koala" said Tegan playfully still grinning, eyes closed. "Come here hot mama" she said groggily pulling Kate's arm. "Oh... uh... Awkward... Tegan!" said Kate laughing. "Hmmm" smiled Tegan. "Tee it's Kate" said Kate giggling.

Tegan's eyes snapped open. "Oh... shit... sorry" said Tegan rubbing her eyes looking horrified. "Morning sleepy head" said Kate. "Hey... sorry about that" mumbled Tegan. "That's okay, but I have to tell you I have a girlfriend" joked Kate. Tegan blushed. "I'm going to let you go back to sleep in a few minutes I just want to check your vitals" said Kate. "I'm fine you don't need to do that" said Tegan. "Yeah I do" said Kate and put the BP cuff around Tegan's arm. Tegan sighed and rolled her eyes. "How are you feeling after the big night?" asked Kate. "Like I have a hangover, but I'm good" said Tegan. She had a throbbing headache but aside from that she felt fine.

"Mmm... BPs a bit low" said Kate. "So what, it's always low in the morning" said Tegan sounding grumpy. "Uh huh" replied Kate and put the pulse ox on her finger. "Sats look fine. It's on the low side but I don't think you need any oxygen" said Kate. "Wonderful... can I go back to sleep now" said Tegan rolling over on her side. Kate opened her bag and took out an IV bag. She wiped Tegan's hand with an alcohol swab. "What the?" said Tegan opening her eyes and yanking her hand away. "I'm just going to put you on a drip" said Kate. "No... why?" said Tegan sounding angry. "Tegan, it's just some fluid replacement and some vitamins and immune boosters" said Kate. "I'm fine I don't want a drip" said Tegan. "Tegan you're going to feel a lot better after the drip" said Kate. "Fuck the drip... I feel fine" said Tegan. "Tegan don't give me shit today just let me put the drip in" said Kate. "No... I don't understand why" said Tegan still hiding her hand.

"How many times have you been to the toilet this morning" asked Kate. "Um... I don't know" lied Tegan. "Let me guess... you haven't" said Kate taking Tegan's hand. "Okay I'll go right now" said Tegan. "You're just a bit dehydrated. Tee last night took it out of you physically and I don't want you getting sick again okay... this is going to help prevent that. Should help for that headache too. Just relax now. You won't even know it's there. By the time you wake up again I'll be back to remove it" said Kate. Tegan was getting emotional, she pulled her hand away again and shook her head. "Tegan it's just a drip it's not a heart transplant!" said Kate. "But... No... I was fine last night and if I could get through that I think it's proof enough that I'm good. I don't want the drip" said Tegan. Kate was fast busy losing her temper. "Okay... I give up. Do whatever you want to Tegan... whateeever you want. But you're not getting admitted to my ICU again. If you get sick you go to another hospital. I'm done" said Kate and closed her bag. "I'll come get my stuff later. Goodbye" she said and walked out of the room highly annoyed. "Kate come on... Kate... okay put the drip in... Katy I'm sorry... come back" said Tegan. "No no... Dr Quin knows best. You do whatever you want" said Kate stopping at the door. "Kate! Come back" yelled Tegan but Kate kept walking. "Shit" mumbled Tegan and got up.

Kate walked past Lindsey and Sonia in the living room. "See you guys later" she said and walked out the front door. Tegan came rushing up behind her. "Kate come on... Kate I'm sorry I'm a shit" she said standing in the door in her pyjamas. Kate stopped and turned around with her hands in her hips. She looked at Tegan standing in the doorway looking pale. "I'm sorry" said Tegan. Tegan's throbbing headache got worse and she felt dizzy. She leaned against the doorframe and closed her eyes. "What's going on here?" said Lindsey walking up behind Tegan. "Nothing" mumbled Tegan and stumbled around. Kate sprang forward. "Okay let's get you back to bed" she said still looking annoyed. "Linds give us a few minutes" said Kate. She led Tegan back to bed.

Tegan plonked down looking exhausted. "Pretty tired huh?" said Kate. Tegan opened her eyes and looked at Kate. "Yeah... you're right. Last night did drain me a bit" said Tegan. "Tegan... I want you to know that I'm not doing these things because I get a kick out of it okay... I'm responsible for your health and I promise... I promise I won't do anything that I don't truly feel you need. I need you to trust me" said Kate. Tegan's chin started quivering. "I do trust you Kate, you know I trust you" said Tegan. "Funny way of showing it" said Kate. "I just... I thought I'd be done with this shit by now... And last night... well last night went so well I thought I'm okay now" said Tegan. "Tee... you are okay... but let's make sure we keep it that way. This is just going to help you feel better and help us keep you healthy okay. I really don't want you getting sick again and last night you were smooching a lot of people with God knows what germs. You want to feel good for you family lunch today don't you?" said Kate sweetly. "Yeah... I do" said Tegan. "And you want to be healthy when those babies arrive right?" said Kate. "Of course I do" said Tegan giving Kate her hand. Kate smiled. "Okay... let's get this IV up and you can get a few more hours of sleep before your guests arrive" said Kate. Tegan nodded. "Where's Sara?" asked Tegan trying to change the conversation. "Sleeping... she's pretty tired too... it's not just you" said Kate. She swiftly and skilfully started the IV line. "There you go. Go back to sleep now" said Kate pulling the covers over Tegan. "Thank you Kate... and I really am sorry" she mumbled. "Forget about it" said Kate. "You're still my favourite doctor" smiled Tegan. "Well that little stint just cost you some points but you're still up there as my star patient... get some rest" said Kate and left the room.

"What was that all about?" asked Lindsey as Kate came back into the living room. "Nothing" said Kate. "Didn't look like nothing" said Lindsey. "Tegan was just being a bit of a prima donna about the drip I put her on" said Kate. "A drip?" asked Lindsey looking concerned. "It's nothing Linds... I just want to boost her fluid levels and get some nutrients into her. It's just a precaution... we want to keep her healthy" said Kate. Lindsey shook her head. "She can be so full of shit sometimes" she said. "Let her get a few more hours of sleep, or at least just rest. I'll be back in about two hours to remove the IV" said Kate. "Thanks Kate. I'm glad she has you looking after her" said Sonia. "You're welcome Sonia. See you guys later" said Kate.

Lindsey walked into the darkened room and saw Tegan lying in the foetal position. "Hey honey... didn't even have a chance to say good morning" she said sliding in behind Tegan. "Morning baby" said Tegan softly. "How are you feeling?" said Lindsey. "I'm good" said Tegan emotionless. "My rock star" said Lindsey into her neck. "Yeah your rock star that can't even do a show without needing a fucking drip the next day" said Tegan sulking. "You were so amazing and strong yesterday. I'm so proud of you. You're fine Tegan. Let's keep it that way" said Lindsey. "Yeah... I'm such a dick... Kate's just trying to help. Trying to keep me healthy. And I want to be healthy for our babies I'm just so fucking fed up with needles" said Tegan. "Shhh you're not a dick. It's over... relax now and get some more sleep" said Lindsey kissing Tegan's hair.
