Damon was allowed to walk back to the room that Stefan had been staying in overnight. Stefan was still asleep on the bed when he was wheeled back and Damon sat for a while just stroking his cheek as he seemed so peaceful. Stefan eyes slowly opened.
"Hey Stef." Damon smiled, then Stefan closed his eyes again and fell back asleep. Damon was confused. He looked at the nurse.
"Is that normal?" He asked.
"Very much so."
It took another 30 minutes for Stefan to wake up again.
"Hello there hero. How are you feeling?" Damon asked and Stefan mumbled that he was tired. Damon nodded. Stefan then caught sight of the IV in his arm and started panicking but Damon quickly grabbed his hand and kissed his head.
"It's to make sure you're not in pain." Damon said and Stefan breathed out. The nurse then went to get Stefan some food and a teddy bear and as soon as Stefan had been eating, he was allowed to go home. The nurse gently removed the IV but Stefan made no move to leave the comfortable bed.
Damon grabbed him under the armpits and lifted the younger boy into his hold. Stefan went completely limp and just relaxed into Damon. He almost fell asleep again. Yet he had his teddy bear clutched in his hands.
Stefan was out for the entire car ride and Damon put him to bed when they arrived at home. The morphine and anesthesia had hit his baby brother hard and Stefan would probably be out for a while.
Stefan didn't wake up before dinner and when Damon opened the door to his room in the late evening, Stefan was still holding onto the teddy bear and deeply asleep. Damon smiled and decided to let Stefan sleep. The thought of waking him almost unbearable. Although he still had to put Stefan's arm back in the sling he had been given. He whined when his cast was put into the sling.
"Shhhh..." Damon soothes and gave Stefan's hair a few strokes. Stefan didn't wake up entirely. Damon gave the child a kiss on the forehead and then went to his own bedroom.
Something or someone was moving on Damon's bed in the middle of the night. Damon stirred awake seeing Stefan's tear soaked face.
"What's wrong?" Damon asked softly in a sad tone and gave Stefan's cheek a rub.
"My arm hurts." Stefan cried. Damon frowned. It was probably sore both from the surgery and the break. Damon sat up and pulled Stefan into his lap, seeing that his arm wasn't in the sling.
"Stef, you can't take the sling off. It's helping your bone heal." Damon sighed. He kissed Stefan's temple to provide comfort.
"Is it very painful?" He asked. Stefan nodded and sobbed miserably.
"And what are we gonna do about it?" Damon asked giving Stefan's temple another kiss.
"I don't know." Stefan cried. Damon shushed him and pulled out his phone, texting everyone he thought could be available. He told them that he needed Tylenol in liquid form and a syringe. Caroline responded immediately that she would be on her way.
30 minutes later she knocked on the door and Damon opened. She handed him a bag.
"Thanks," Damon said, smiling a little.
"Can I see him?" Caroline asked. Hope clear in her voice.
"We talked about this Caroline.. it's safer for him without everyone... besides, he's sleeping."
Caroline sighed sadly.
"Well let me know when I can see him again."
