Rex, Bly, and Wolffe were sitting silently as a ship would be taking them to the planet Lubin. Kenobi currently driving the ship.
Each company had taken the news of their CO's new missions different. Each had been shocked of course, but that went away soon enough.
For Bly the ones who knew him best looked saddened, but hoped that taking this mission would help him get past their General. As they knew there was no chance for them to be together.
The wolffe pack had made a bet about Plo making himself the honorary grandfather. This ended with many running for their lives as Wolffe was in no mood for jokes.
As for Rex, his company had been the most shocked at first but just ended up teasing him and telling him to bring them back a sister.
As the three sat down Bly was staring out into nothing, his mind completely somewhere else.
Rex and Wolffe noticed it easily and frowned. It was no secret among the officers about the Star Corps Commander's crush on the Twi'lik general. They knew that this was a hard mission for him to take. So here came the question, why?
"Hey Bly, you okay?" Rex frowned.
Bly jumped and said "Oh, yeah I'm alright."
"Scuff, don't lie. We can see it as plain as day. You don't want to be here, so why are you?" Wolffe glared.
Bly sighed, knowing there was no use in hiding it. He looked to make sure the door was truly shut and whispered, "It was an order."
"One you could have said no to." Rex raised a brow.
"You two know I could never say no to the General." Bly sighs.
The other two sigh, knowing the feeling.
"You think you'll go through with it?" Wolffe frowns.
"Not sure, I'll have to see how it goes." Bly looks down uncertain.
Rex frowned for his brother, it was sad to see how much he loved someone but could never be with them. It reminded him of his General somewhat but at least he found a way to be with the one he loved. 'If only there was a way for Bly.'
Bly then said "What about you Wolffe, why didn't you say no?" he raised a brow confused.
Wolffe sighed "Couldn't say no to the General either. He looked too happy on the idea."
The two chuckled at that.
"Don't want to disappoint daddy." Rex smirks.
Rex growled as he almost slugged him.
"Come on Wolffe, we all know General Koon is practically a father to the Wolffe Pack. Just admit it." Bly smirks.
"The General has a 'fatherly' personally, but I don't know about him seeing us as more than his men." Wolffe crosses his arms.
"If you say so. Though, maybe he also chose you for this since he knows how much you like wolves." Rex smirks once more.
Again, Rex had to dodge a blow from his more aggressive brother.
Bly was laughing like crazy. Rex just smirked, glad he had helped his depressed brother cheer up.
"Okay wise guy, why are you here then? Did General Skywalkers flirting finally rub off on you?" Wolffe raised a brow as Bly smirks.
Rex rolled his eyes. If there was one thing his General was known for, besides his crashing, was his flirtatious manner. Sure some of the men, including himself, had somewhat adapted the skill when at 79's but where never as good as him.
'Or as bad.' Rex had to cringe at some of the things the General would do.
"Bet he wanted to show the galaxy that his men are just as good at it as he is." Bly smirked.
Rex rolled his eyes at Bly taking a shot 'Least he's feeling better.' But said "Actually he didn't want me coming in the first place."
The two commanders looked shocked at the captain.
"What? By why?" Bly looked on wide eyed.
"I thought if anyone would agree to this it be General Skywalker." Wolffe raised a brow.
Rex sighed, how could he explain this. "Well the General knows how we're not exactly used to this stuff or making relationships. So, he didn't think it was right to force me into something like this or rush me into marriage. I almost didn't come because of that." Rex looked down.
At that the two finally realized it.
"You want to be here." Bly's eyes widened.
Rex rubbed the back of his head and said "Is it that obvious?"
Wolffe frowned but said "I guess we all have those what if moments, but….Why?"
Rex sighed and said "I just….I've seen people with families and those they care about, and when they want to protect them they look stronger. Like they fight to their last for them, same as I do for my brothers. I wonder if having more to fight fore makes you better and I can't get the what if's out of my head."
The two took that in, curios as well.
"But how did you convince the General to let you come?" Bly frowned.
"I didn't. He took some time to cool off and said that he'd accept anything I chose. The General sees his men as his friends as well, so he didn't want me to choose based off his reaction and let me know it was okay." Rex smiled, still happy at what his General said to him.
The two looked on shocked at this, but they guessed they could understand as their own generals treated them more than just soldiers.
Soon the door to the pilots seat opened and Obi-Wan came in saying "I'm glad to see you all looking relaxed. We'll be reaching Lubin in a short while."
"Thank you General. We'll be ready." Bly nods.
The General was referring to how they had been feeling on the no armor rule for this mission. They had been told to wear their deck officer uniforms as the Lubin didn't want them coming as soldiers but as guest.
It made them a bit anxious to be out and about without armor, Wolffe being the only one used to the uniform. But the thought of not having it on a new planet still made him anxious.
"We've adjusted." Rex nods.
"I'm glad to hear that. I also need to talk to you all about something before we land. I know it might seem strange to you all that the Jedi might have accepted such a mission during the war, but you must understand it wasn't something we could not refuse." Kenobi looks down saddened.
"What do you mean sir?" Rex raised a brow.
Obi-Wan sighed as he said. "This isn't the first war the Jedi have fought in. A thousand years ago the Jedi battled against the Sith. Wars broke out between us and the battles were merciless."
"I've heard the stories from the General. He said you were the first to defeat a Sith after a thousand years." Wolffe looked curios.
Obi-Wan frowned with pain in his eyes as he said "While true, I am still not the first jedi to fight a sith. Now during this war there was another faction, the Lubin."
The three looked at each other shocked.
"Are they truly that strong in the force sir?" Bly asks.
"Some can be, some even stronger. Usually though they only have small abilities, like bonds, animal connections, or healing." The Jedi explains.
They became curios about what each Lubin could do and how strong they could be.
"Now the Lubin did not want to take part in the war. They in no way where dark side users so the Jedi did not see them as enemies, but possible allies. So the Jedi of old ask if they would join their fight. But the Lubin believed that war held no winner. And with their people only living on one planet and not many being as strong in the force as a Jedi, they refused to join."
"So Even back then their numbers were small." Rex frowned.
"Yes, but the Jedi nor the Sith cared about this. At some point in the war the Sith attacked the Lubin and they called the Jedi for help. In spite for not joining the war, the jedi refused to help them and the Lubin where cut down to more than half." Obi-Wan looked down in shame.
The three men looked on in shock, the Jedi refusing to help? It didn't seem possible.
"We felt the immense pain of lose through the force and the jedi knew they had made a grave mistake. Our pride had blinded us and when we came to help the Lubin, they had already driven the Sith away from them. Not only that but the Jedi found that the Sith had done something else. They had used the force to somehow make it difficult for the Lubin to reproduce, and that they would become extinct if they did not do something. So, the Jedi made a pact with Lubin that they would do anything to help keep their people alive. The Lubin where angry but accepted the pact."
The three still looked shocked. "So that's why you all couldn't refuse. It was a pact of honor you had to fulfill." Bly frowns.
"More like a pact of redemption. We tried all we could to get the Lubin back on their feet but all they wished was for us to leave them alone. Never asking for the pact to be used until now, wanting to fix themselves without the help of the people who had doomed them in the first place." Obi-wan looked older in some way as he explained this.
The men flinched, seeing how much this hurt him.
"Though that is one of the reasons why they Jedi have the rule to be empathetic and always help no matter what. That disaster helped us learned that our actions had consequences. And that not helping could lead to unbalance in the galaxy."
Obi-Wan finished as he looked at the men and said "Now do you see why we asked you to do this? Why we accepted their request even in war, and why we are thankful for you participation?" He smiled kindly at them.
At that the three understood, it wasn't just a mission to save a people from extinction, it was a personal mission for the Jedi. A mission to right a wrong made by their ancestors and one they could only fix with their help.
With that a new resolve come over them as they sat straighter and with determined looks. They would take this mission seriously and would not fail the Generals.
For even if they were made for war, for once in their lives their existence would be about life. And at that moment in their minds, there was no greater honor.
Before more could be said an alarm went off and Obi-Wan replied "We're here." And with that he headed to the driver's seat and began their landing. A new chapter in their lives was about to beggin.
Hope you all liked that. Wanted to show why the Jedi are being so complacent about all this and show how the guys are dealing with all this. Hope it was as good to you all as it was to me.
