Chapter 157
Tegan and Lindsey both passed out after breakfast and were snoozing away on the double bed in Lindsey's maternity ward room. Tegan had her arm over Lindsey's waist and her face in her neck. Sara peeped inside but quietly left the room to go find her mom when she saw them sleeping. "Psssstt…. Sexy" she heard a whisper behind her. She turned around and found Kate grinning at her. "Don't you have work to do instead of harassing visitors" joked Sara. Kate glanced around the hallway. Everybody was minding their own business, tired, busy… She grabbed Sara's hand and pulled her into a supply room. "Oh baby…. harass me" laughed Sara as Kate attacked her lips. "Sara…. I'm so hot for you right now" whispered Kate into her ear. "Somebody's going to come in" said Sara trying to wriggle her way out under Kate's arms. "Fuck it… that's what makes it so much more exciting" grinned Kate and started grinding her hips into Sara's. Sara moaned softly as Kate's lips made their way down to her neck. Kate's hands slid up under her shirt and moved over her breasts. A floor mop fell over and Sara jumped and shrieked. "Easy baby… it's just a mop" laughed Kate and continued to kiss Sara.
Kate pushed Sara towards the back of the room slowly while fondling her breasts and playing with her tongue. The room was dark and the thrill of being caught excited but scared Sara. Sara felt her back hit a wall and put her leg around Kate's body. Kate pulled both of Sara's legs around her waist and kept grinding her hips to Sara's crotch. Both Sara and Kate were panting, excited to finally have time for this. The door opened and somebody entered. It was a girl and she seemed upset. "Dickhead" she mumbled and sat down on a box not noticing Kate and Sara to the back of the room behind a shelf.
Sara looked at Kate with wide eyes. Kate looked into Sara's eyes and put her forefinger in front of her mouth. Sara giggled softly and put her head on Kate's shoulder. "Who the fuck does he think he is... you don't treat people like that... not even if you're the high and mighty Dr Weber and I'm an intern" the girl talked to herself. Sara sighed into Kate's neck. She relaxed and enjoyed Kate's body plastered to hers in silence. The girl sat in silence for a few more minutes. Sara lifted her head and stared intently into Kate's eyes. She felt as if she could see Kate's soul. She was so in love it made her feel dizzy. Kate stared seductively back into Sara's eyes. The girl got up and kicked something. "Here we go" she mumbled and left the room. Sara burst out laughing but Kate didn't waste any time getting back to work. Her hand slowly made it's way into Sara's pants. "Yes... fuck I've missed this" mumbled Sara. "It's only been a few days" whispered Kate through her kisses. "Yeah a few days too long lover" smiled Sara and threw her head back.
Tegan stared at Lindsey's sleeping face and smiled as she began to stir. "Hey mommy" she whispered. "Hi my love" smiled Lindsey as Tegan planted a kiss on her lips. "How are you feeling?" asked Tegan softly. "Sore... but happy" smiled Lindsey. Kate walked into the room grinning like a cat that got milk. "Hey guys! Did you have a good nap?" she smiled. "Great nap" said Tegan and frowned. "What's up with you?" she asked. "What do you mean?" asked Kate. It was difficult to wipe the stupid grin off her face. "I mean... why are you grinning like that?" asked Tegan. "Life is beautiful! What's not to smile about" winked Kate. "Uh huh" grunted Tegan looking suspicious. "Time to check your vitals Linds. You guys must be missing your little pumpkins" said Kate looking at the TV screen with the babies on. "Yeah let's do this so we can go visit" said Tegan.
Lindsey was allowed to walk the short distance to the NICU clutching her IV stand. "You okay sweetie?" asked Tegan concerned. "Yes Boo... I'm perfectly fine" said Lindsey. "Hi babies! We're back! Mommy and mommy is here" smiled Tegan when they reached the babies' cubicle. Sonia was sitting reading next to them. "Did grandma stay with you? She's the best grandma in the world right" cooed Tegan holding they babies' hands. "You're so beautiful" smiled Lindsey touching her kids. "Everything okay?" Tegan asked the nurse. "Everything's great. No problems at all this morning. Little super stars these two" she smiled.
"I think these two are ready to be held by their mommies" said the paediatrician as he walked up to them. "Really? Thank you! That would be amazing" said Tegan. "Great, Lindsey you're fine, you're wearing a robe already. Tegan, do you have something like a zip down hoody?" he asked. "Sure... I'll run and go put it on" said Tegan. "Don't wear anything underneath" said the nurse. Tegan jogged back to the room and pulled her shirt and bra off before putting on her hoody and zipping it up. She jogged back out of the room and ran straight into Sara. "Sara! I'm going to hold my babies! You need to take video" said Tegan sounding nervous and out of breath. "O wow that's exciting" said Sara and followed Tegan back to the NICU.
"I'm so nervous" said Tegan softly before taking a puff from her inhaler. "You'll be fine Tegan" smiled Kate. "Okay guys... we should give you some privacy" said Sonia. "No no stay... I want to share this with you" said Tegan looking at Lindsey. Lindsey nodded. "Besides one have to take photos and the other video" said Tegan. The nurse pulled the curtains around the cubicle closed for some privacy. The lights were dimmed.
"Moms, you can both sit down in a recliner" she said. Tegan sat down looking petrified. "Relax... everything's fine" said the nurse and pushed the bed closer to the recliners. Kate helped Lindsey open her fluffy robe and pull down her hospital gown. "Open up Tee" she smiled. Tegan pulled the zipper of her hoody down with a shaky hand. "Any requests in terms of who holds which baby first?" asked the nurse. "You just randomly decide please. We won't be able to" said Lindsey. She looked at Tegan and winked. Tegan smiled and squeezed Lindsey's hand.
It took quite a while to get the babies ready to be moved, tubes and wires attached. Sara and Sonia were ready with their cameras and Kate crouched next to Tegan, she held her wrist and took her pulse. "Tee… deep breaths now okay... easy does it just it. Try and calm yourself down. The baby will be able to sense your anxiety" said Kate softly. Tegan took another puff from her inhaler and then took a deep breath and balled her cheeks breathing out. "I'm sorry... I'm just, I'm so nervous. What if we hurt them" said Tegan. "You're not going to hurt them, the opposite in fact. They're going to love bonding with you" said Kate as she put a pulse ox meter on Tegan's finger. "No please I want to touch them... I don't want this on me" said Tegan irritated. "Okay, just want to get a baseline sats reading I'll remove it in a minute" said Kate calmly. She looked at the meter. "Your heart rate is sky high Tee... and your sats are lower than it should be but I'm going to let it slide and see if this baby does some magic with mommy. Just close your eyes now... take deep breaths... calm down and enjoy what's going to be one of the most special moments of your life" said Kate with her hand on Tegan's shoulder. Tegan closed her eyes and tried to calm herself down with some deep breaths. "There we go, much better" said Kate as Lindsey gently stroke her hand. "Alright honey... everything's okay" whispered Lindsey. Kate nodded at a nurse.
Tegan kept her eyes closed and smiled when she felt soft, warm skin on hers. She opened her eyes. "Here we go, we just need to be careful with his breathing machine and his monitors and IVs" said the nurse softly while arranging Ryan's tiny body on Tegan's bare chest, between her breasts. Tegan put her hand on Ryan's body, he was wriggling around but calmed down as soon as Tegan spoke. "Hey mister... hi Ryan... mommy's here" she said softly as the nurse covered him with a blanket. It was sheer magic. Tears started freely flowing over Tegan's cheeks. "I love you so much... so, so much" she whispered.
Lindsey couldn't contain her own emotions when she saw the love of her life holding their baby. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. Everything seemed to fall into place. Everything was perfect. She smiled through her tears as the nurse put little Casey on her chest. She put her hands on Casey and sniffed. "Hey baby girl... my gorgeous little princess. Mommy loves you" she whispered and felt her breasts start leaking as mother's instinct started kicking in.
Tegan held Ryan as tight as she thought was safe and felt herself relax. "This is the best feeling in the world" she whispered. "It's amazing" said Lindsey still teary. "Wow, he smells so good. This is my new favourite smell in the world... and my favourite feeling... my favourite thing to do... my favourite everything" said Tegan and smiled breathing in Ryan's baby scent. "There we go... everything's fine... relax as much as you can... if you want to you can talk to them or each other but just relax now" said the nurse and put the feet of the two recliners up and covered both Tegan and Lindsey with blankets.
Sara felt the phone in her hand shake as the sobs started coming. She had never seen anything more special. She could feel Tegan's total and absolute joy and it made her so incredibly happy. Tegan kept whispering sweet nothings into Ryan's ear and he seemed to be completely relaxed now. Kate stared at the baby monitors and smiled. "Look at that... both babies' vitals are improving. Breathing is improving, heart rate stabilising, blood pressure going up... how amazing is that" she said. "They're both sleeping like logs already, Kangaroo care is usually the time when they sleep the best, they go into this deep sleep when they connect skin on skin with the parents. They know you, they feel safe. They love your sent, your breathing, the vibrations of your voice" said the nurse. "Looks as if the mom's are also relaxing" smiled Kate. "Both babies temperatures are just perfect right now" said the nurse.
Tegan looked at Sara and Sonia and smiled. "I can't believe I'm finally holding my baby" she said softly. She turned her head to Lindsey. "I love you Lindsey... thank you for this gift... I adore you" she said softly. "I love you too Tegan... you're my everything" said Lindsey looking into Tegan's hazel eyes.
Sonia stopped snapping photos a few minutes later but Sara kept filming. "Sar... it's okay you can stop for now" said Tegan. Sara nodded and put the camera down. Tegan closed her eyes again and felt her son's rapid but regular breathing on her chest. Complete calm had swept over her the second she held her son. She was surrounded by the purest form of love. She knew in that moment that this was the most special, most important thing she had ever done. Her priorities, her whole life had changed and there was nothing she wouldn't do for her wife and her children. She would die for them. She finally had the family she so longed for. This was where she belonged, nothing could ever sever this bond.
Kate put her arms around Sara's waist and watched Tegan and Lindsey silently holding their babies. She wiped a tear from her cheek. Sara turned her face back towards Kate. "It's beautiful isn't it" she whispered. Kate nodded and gave Sara a soft kiss on the cheek. Tegan was completely relaxed now. She felt as if she was in a special bubble with her little family. Nothing could touch them. The nurse allowed them to hold their babies for about ninety minutes before Ryan started to stir a bit. "Hey honey... hey sleepy head. Did you have a good nap? Mommy's right here, it's okay, you're safe" whispered Tegan touching Ryan's tiny hand. He put his fingers around Tegan's forefinger and blinked slowly, still quite chilled. "Time to go back to bed big boy" smiled the nurse. "No please... just a few more minutes" begged Tegan. "Okay, five more minutes. You can come back for some more this afternoon guys... they're not going anywhere" said the nurse. "I thought I could hold Casey too now" said Tegan. "Later Tegan, I promise. We don't want to move them around too much in one session" said the nurse.
Tegan started softly humming. Ryan seemed to be liking this and he moved his arms up slowly over Tegan's breasts and closed his eyes again. Lindsey smiled at Tegan with her hand still on a sleeping Casey. "This is the best their vitals has ever been" said the paediatrician looking at the monitors. Tegan grinned and kissed Ryan's head. "Maybe we'll give grandma a chance later" said the nurse. "Yeah... and the godmothers" said Tegan smiling at Sara and Kate. "You'll have to do this again soon, these two just love their mommies" he winked. "Not as much as we love them" said Tegan.
A/N: Wow, super soppy chapter huh! Hope you enjoyed it. For those of you commenting that they don't want it to end, I feel ya! I don't want it to end either but truth be told I'm almost running out of story. Feel free to send me suggestions for storyline going forward and I may consider writing it.
