Chapter 159
A couple of hours later Tegan and Lindsey were finally alone with their babies sleeping in the bedroom after seeing their visitors off. Tegan closed the front door behind her and pulled Lindsey closer. "Hey you…" she whispered looking into Lindsey's eyes. "Hey" breathed Lindsey and gazed into Tegan's eyes. Tegan slowly stepped forward, her fingers entwined in Lindsey's and she started kissing her softly. Lindsey ran her hands up and down Tegan's back and ended up with her fingers in Tegan's soft hair. Tegan kept kissing while slowly guiding Lindsey backwards towards the main bedroom. Tegan stopped next to the bed and made her way down Lindsey's neck. Lindsey felt her nipples go erect under Tegan's touch. Tegan and Lindsey haven't exactly had time or energy for sex since the birth of the babies. Tegan kissed Lindsey's neck more passionately while pulling Lindsey as close as she could get her. Lindsey threw her head back and inhaled sharply. Tegan gently guided Lindsey down onto the bed before straightening her back and pulling her shirt off in record speed. She gave Lindsey a massive grin as she unclipped her bra.
Lindsey watched Tegan with an amused expression on her face as she fumbled around to get out of her boots and jeans. Tegan was close to a normal, healthy weight again after months of struggling to put back weight after her lengthy illness. "Hurry up hot stuff" joked Lindsey while kicking her shoes off. Tegan giggled and pulled Lindsey's jeans off before putting her hands under Lindsey's bra. "No baby hang on" said Lindsey pulling Tegan's hands away. "Huh" said Tegan questioningly while still hovering over Lindsey. "We're going to have to lay off the boobs for a while. Soggy breast pads aren't exactly the sexiest thing in the world" said Lindsey blushing. "Everything about you is sexy" said Tegan softly but she respected her wife's wishes and moved down to her stomach. Lindsey suddenly flipped Tegan over onto her back and straddled her crotch and started kissing Tegan's breasts that were now perky with excitement. "Your breasts on the other hand…. Is everything but off limits"
"Baby, pack an overnight bag" said Kate as they entered their house after dropping Sonia off at the airport. "Where are we going?" asked Sara. "Ummm... surprise" said Kate. "Shouldn't we be around if Tegan and Lindsey needs you?" asked Sara. "They're not going to need me. Anyway, I've asked Sam to be on standby for them if they need anything. He owes me a few favors. I'll have my phone with me" said Kate. "Okay... are you sure about this?" asked Sara. "Yeah... Sar I really need to get out of the city... even if it is for one night only" said Kate. "Alright, I trust you" said Sara and walked towards the room to pack. "Thanks babe" said Kate.
The lazy afternoon sun crept slowly over Tegan's naked back as she lay on her stomach, clutching her pillow drowsily after an amazing and long overdue love making session. "I've missed this so much" whispered Lindsey and gave Tegan another quick kiss. "Mmmm…. Me too" mumbled Tegan with a smile. "Sky rockets in flight… afternoon delight" sang Tegan as she turned on her side. She looked at the moving lights on the babies' breathing monitors and sighed when she saw them moving up and down. Lindsey put her hand on Tegan's back and ran it up and down her smooth skin. "I love you" whispered Tegan. "I didn't know it was possible to be this happy… to love somebody this much" said Lindsey looking into Tegan's eyes.
A few minutes later a small cry escaped the baby monitor and Tegan jumped up and ran into the baby room naked. "I've got it… relax" Tegan said over her shoulder. "Heeeey…. Hi Casey, what's up baby girl?" she cooed as she picked up Casey. Ryan seemed to be sleeping through all the commotion. Tegan softly kissed Casey's forehead. "You're so beautiful… where's mommy's beautiful baby girl. Let's see if there's anything in that diaper" said Tegan. Lindsey listened to Tegan through the baby monitor. "Okay honey… let's just pop these open… feet out. Look at these little marshmallow feet... and... one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine... ten mini marshmallow toes" Tegan cooed and Lindsey smiled as she heard her repeatedly kiss their girl's feet. "You like that sweetie pie? I like it too. Oh dear…. Who's got a stinky bum… yup…. That's a big one... oooohhh nasty" joked Tegan. Lindsey lay listen and laughing with her arm behind her head.
Tegan walked back into the room still naked, holding Casey wearing only a diaper. "Oooohhh man... my ovaries" laughed Lindsey. Tegan scoffed at Lindsey's fan joke. "Very funny" she sighed and shook her head. "Ryan still sleeping?" asked Lindsey. "Yeah he's a big old sleepy head hey Case…" laughed Tegan and lay down next to Lindsey against some pillows. "It's kangaroo time before you get more boob" said Tegan holding a relaxed Casey against her chest. Lindsey pulled the comforter over them. "Seriously…. This is both the cutest and the sexiest thing I've ever seen" said Lindsey. Casey moved around a bit but was soon very comfy between her mom's breasts. "She's got the cutest hair... and it smells sooo good" said Tegan with her one hand on Casey's bum and one on her back. "I'll be back" said Lindsey. "Where are you going? Linds? Don't go mommy" said Tegan with a mopey face. "Just a sec honey" said Lindsey over her shoulder.
Sara and Kate sped down the highway in Kate's Jeep. Sara put her hand on Kate's thigh. Kate turned the music up as a clear indication that she didn't want to talk right now. Sara respected that and stared at the window as they left the city behind.
Lindsey walked back into the room with her camera. Tegan smiled. She knew how much Lindsey loved that camera and it was amazing to see her in her element again. Tegan was so used to Lindsey holding a camera that she didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable as Lindsey snapped away. "We should arrange a proper baby shoot soon" said Lindsey. "One with both moms in the photos" smiled Tegan playing with Casey's feet. Ryan's cry escaped the monitor. "I'm up hon… I'll go get him" said Lindsey. Lindsey brought Ryan in after a diaper change and put him down in the crook of Tegan's arm and repositioned Casey in the other. "Holy shit this is adorable" she cooed and clicked away. Tegan was a natural as always and continued talking to the babies. She just couldn't wipe the silly grin off her face.
Kate and Sara stopped at a store to pick up some supplies for the night and headed back out. "Where are we going sweetie?" asked Sara. "Told you, it's a surprise" grinned Kate. "Feels good to be out and about right... out of that stuffy hospital" said Kate. "Sure does... what am I going to do with myself when you go back to work full time next week?" asked Sara. "Write... you and Tegan owe Erin a soundtrack remember" said Kate. "Yeah... I don't know if I'm really inspired or really blocked" said Sara looking out of the window. "Guess you'll find out once you start writing again" smiled Kate. "I guess" mumbled Sara.
Tegan and Lindsey just stared at their gorgeous babies for the rest of the afternoon. They both fell asleep after being fed but the moms didn't have the heart to go put them back in bed so they lay sleeping next to each other between their moms. "They're so perfect" whispered Tegan. "They are... how on earth did we manage to make something so perfect Tee" smiled Lindsey. "They're so good too right... hardly ever cries" said Tegan. "Yup, their perfect" winked Lindsey. "Can't wait till bath time" said Tegan. "I'm nervous about it" said Lindsey. "Why hon... you've done it so many times at the hospital" said Tegan frowning. "Yeah but back there we had somebody checking if we did it right every time" said Lindsey. "And we did do it right... relax, it's going to be fun" said Tegan and winked at Lindsey.
Sara and Kate entered quite a deserted area and drove into some woods until they reached a cabin next to a lake. "We're here" smiled Kate. "What is this place?" asked Sara. "My little get away... when life in the city gets too much" said Kate. "You own this place?" asked Sara. "Yeah, pretty awesome right" said Kate as excited as a five year old. "Yes, pretty cool" said Sara looking a bit dumbfounded. Kate unlocked the door and led Sara inside. "Home sweet home" she smiled. The cabin was decorated beautifully and even had some fresh flowers on the table. "Flowers?" asked Sara confused. "Yeah, neighbours are pretty cool. Sally helps clean the place up before I come and Jim restocks the firewood and stuff. They do the laundry for me... that kind of thing. They can use the extra cash" said Kate. "You're so sweet, I bet you pay them a fortune just for doing that" said Sara. Kate shrugged. "They'd do it for free but I like to help them out" said Kate. "Their little boy fell down a tree and broke his leg once. I helped them out and now they think they owe me so they're always reluctant to take the money" said Kate. "You're fucking amazing" said Sara and kissed Kate.
Kate broke free a few seconds later. "Hang on I want to show you the rest before it gets dark" she smiled and took Sara's hand, leading her out onto the porch. It really was breathtaking. The lake was crystal clear with large, green pine trees all around it. The porch had beautiful furniture on it as well as two comfy looking hammocks. Two fishing rods were standing in the corner. A few steps down, closer to the water was a fire pit, already stocked and ready for action. "Wish we had more time so we could do some fishing. We should come for a week next time, or a least a long weekend" said Kate. She was clearly in her element and Sara could see her visibly relax and unwind. "I have a little boat! It's not much but it's pretty cool for fishing, or just taking a nap on the lake" said Kate. "It's gorgeous baby! I love it" said Sara. "I'm glad you like it, it's probably my favourite place in the world. I really unwind when I'm here" said Kate. "That's great, you need to unwind sometimes. You have such a stressful job" said Sara. "Don't really want to talk about work today though" said Kate. Sara stood at the edge of the water with her arms folded and closed her eyes taking in the smell of pine needles and listening to the last of the sun beetles singing as the sun sank lower over the lake. She felt Kate's arms around her waist and her warm breath in her neck. They stood in silence for a few minutes, taking the time to let calm wash over them.
Tegan and Lindsey had the spare baby crib set up in their room right next to their bed and placed two freshly bathed and fed babies in their bed for the night. "They look pretty happy to be home" said Tegan. "They sure do" smiled Lindsey. "You hungry?" asked Tegan. "I'm famished" said Lindsey. "I'll go make us some dinner. You just relax and put your feet up" said Tegan. "I'll help" said Lindsey. "No really... relax, you deserve it" said Tegan and kissed Lindsey's cheek.
Kate and Sara sat next the bonfire staring into the flames after a delicious dinner of steak grilled on the fire and vegetables. "You could be a chef. I don't usually really like steak that much but that... was... magnificent" said Sara while roasting a marshmallow on a stick. They were just talking, Sara's favourite thing to do with Kate, well... second favourite. "I love this place, it's magic" said Sara before popping the marshmallow into her mouth. Kate pulled her down onto the blanket and they lay on their backs looking at the stars.
"This will be such a cool place to spend time with our kid" said Sara. She regretted saying that as soon as the words left her mouth. She got the feeling that Kate was avoiding the subject and she had no idea why. Kate stayed quiet for a while before pulling Sara closer. "Yeah... it's going to be amazing" she said. Sara smiled. "I'm a big kid and I love it" said Kate turning her head to Sara and smiling. Sara sensed that Kate was finally thawing out, relaxing a bit and now, a bit more open to discuss their future. "We'll sleep outside next to the fire and fish for dinner" said Kate. "Um... I hope you have a bed in there babe because I'm a city girl... don't know if I'm quite ready to sleep outside yet. I'm scared of bugs and creepy crawlies" said Sara seriously. "I'll protect you, I'll even clean the fish" joked Kate. "Uh huh" said Sara not convinced. "Don't worry you big wuss, I have a great bed. Why haven't I even shown you that yet?" said Kate. "We were too hungry to think of anything else?" said Sara. Kate propped her head up on her hand and touched Sara's face glowing in the light of the fire.
Tegan and Lindsey could both hardly stay awake during dinner and were ready for a shower and bed pretty early. "They're going to wake up in about an hour" said Lindsey. "Guess there's no use going to sleep now" said Tegan. "How about a bath?" asked Lindsey. "Sure but we can't bath together, one of us needs to be ready in case they wake up... and we have to be able to hear the monitor and..." said Tegan. "Okay, okay... just come sit with me... bring the monitors with you" said Lindsey. A few minutes later Lindsey was relaxing in the bath and Tegan sat with her back against the bathroom wall, looking at the little lights on the angel monitor indicating that her babies were breathing just fine. "I can't believe we're finally home... we're doing this Linds" said Tegan. "Yeah... everything is perfect" said Lindsey.
"You think the new moms are okay?" asked Sara. "I'm sure they're fine Sara" said Kate. "Do you have cellular reception up here?" asked Sara. "Yes I do... full reception. I had to make sure of that due to my job you know" said Kate. "Oh... okay... is your phone charged?" asked Sara. "Sara! Yes! It's charged!" said Kate annoyed. "Okay jeez... calm down I'm just concerned about them" said Sara. Kate laughed and fell back down looking at the stars. "You're going to be a great mom Sar... an annoying one but still" said Kate. "Thank you baby... so are you" said Sara. "I can't wait, I think I'm finally letting the idea sink in... that we may be parents soon" said Kate. "What do hope it is? Boy or a girl?" asked Sara. "I don't mind... as long as the kid's healthy" said Kate. "Yeah... me too... but I think it's a girl" said Sara. "Bit early to think that" said Kate laughing. "Kate..." said Sara softly. "Yes Sara" said Kate. "Thank you for coming into my life... I don't know where I'd be without you. You make me so... incredibly... happy" said Sara. "And you make me happy... no... ecstatic... and fucking horny" said Kate and sat up fast. She straddled Sara and playfully tickling her. "Stop, you lunatic" giggled Sara. Kate eventually fell back down on the blanket and closed her eyes. She felt Sara's warm breath on her cheek. When she opened her eyes again Sara's face was inches from hers. Sara softly and sensually put her hand under Kate's shirt and slowly moved it up to her breasts. Kate swallowed hard and took a deep breath. She tangled her fingers into Sara's hair and pulled her face closer until she felt the soft, warm, familiar lips on hers.
Casey and Ryan were little angels and both fell asleep pretty soon after being changed, fed and burped. "Sleeeeep" said Tegan and fell into bed. "Goodnight baby... see you in well... two and a half hours I guess" said Lindsey yawning. "Goodnight Boo" said Tegan and clutched her pillow before falling asleep almost immediately.
Sara and Kate lay naked under a thick comforter looking at the stars. "I'm going to put some more wood on the fire" said Kate and got up. "Aren't you cold... you're naked" lauged Sara. "Yeah I'm fucking freezing" said Kate jogging around, chucking more wood on the fire. "I thought you'd be hot, hot, hot after our... workout" laughed Sara. "Well looks as if you're going to have to heat me right back up" joked Kate and got back under the covers next to Kate. Kate plastered herself to Sara's warm body. "Brrr" she said. "No... you're freezing" laughed Sara. "Come on... you don't want me hypothermic do you... and you've got some extra body heat... what with being pregnant and all" said Kate. "Hopefully" Sara corrected her. "Yeah... hopefully" whispered Kate.
Tegan jumped up instantly when she heard one of the babies start to cry in the crib next to her. "I've got it... I've got it" she exclaimed rubbing her eyes. "Hey big boy... shhh it's okay... mom's here" she whispered and picked Ryan up. "I'm going to change his diaper. You get the midnight snack ready" joked Tegan. Tegan was still busy changing a screaming Ryan's diaper when Lindsey walked in with Casey, now also screaming her lungs out. "Well, looks as if their lungs are working just fine now" said Lindsey. "That's for sure" said Tegan. The next moment a stream of wee hit her on the chest. She closed her eyes annoyed and sighed. "Very funny mister" she said and pulled her top off. She swiftly changed Ryan's diaper and picked him up holding him close to her chest while bouncing up and down. "Shhhh, shhhh... mommy's here... shhhh there we go... everything's okay Ryan" she said softly. Ryan was inconsolable. He was still screaming and wriggling around. "Honey hurry up, he must be hungry" said Tegan sounding nervous. Lindsey sat up against some pillows with a baby feeding pillow around her and a baby under each arm as they both fed quite happily. Tegan kept a watchful eye and rubbed Lindsey's leg as she saw her almost nodding off. "You okay there boo?" she whispered. "Yeah I'm okay... sweetie could you please get me something to drink, I'm really thirsty" said Lindsey. "Of course, I'll go make some tea. You okay here alone with them?" asked Tegan. "Yup, I won't fall asleep I promise" said Lindsey. Tegan returned a few minutes later with two cups of tea. "How's it going?" she asked. "Good, I think they're almost done" said Lindsey. Tegan watched her babies closely. Casey seemed to be asleep again with her mom's breast still in her mouth. "Should I burp her or just put her to bed?" asked Tegan. "Um... I don't know she looks okay, just put her in bed" said Lindsey. Tegan picked Casey up and gently put her into the crib. Ryan was also asleep now and Tegan lay him down next to his sister. She gulped her tea up and lay back down to sleep.
Tegan felt as if she had only nodded off for a few minutes when one of the babies started wailing again. "Fuck" she whispered and got up. "What's wrong Case... another wet diaper?" she asked. Casey was screaming her lungs out and was joined a minute later by her brother. Lindsey was now also up and picked Ryan up. They put both babies down on the bed and checked the diapers. "Won't make that mistake again" joked Tegan. "Nothing" said Lindsey. "Okay what's wrong guys? Shhhhh... shhhh" said Tegan bouncing Casey up and down. This went on for a long time. "What's wrong with them Linds... why won't they stop crying! Look at his face, looks as if he's in agony!" said Tegan. "How should I know... keep bouncing" said Lindsey.
About fifteen minutes later both babies were still crying. "I'm worried... let's check their temperatures" said Tegan. "Good idea" said Lindsey and followed Tegan into the nursery. They put both crying babies down on the changing table. Tegan took the thermometer out of the drawer and put it into Casey's ear looking petrified. The machine flickered a few seconds later. "It's normal" sighed Tegan and put the machine in Ryan's ear. "Yup, also normal" she said and picked Casey back up. "Should we call Kate?" said Lindsey. "No... Um... I don't want to bother her if we don't need to. Let's call my mom" said Tegan. "Oh you'll bother your mom but not Kate?" said Lindsey. "Kate's not a mom... my mom's... a mom. We'll call Kate if Sonia says we should" said Tegan and started dialling her mom.
"Tegan? Is everything okay?" said Sonia sounding sleepy. "Um... yeah mom it's just" said Tegan clutching the phone between her ear and her shoulder still bouncing Casey. "It sounds like world war three over there" said Sonia. "Mom we don't know what to do... they won't stop crying... they never cry... we've tried everything... and before you say it... they don't have dirty diapers!" said Tegan. "Okay Tegan just calm down" said Sonia. "We've checked their temperatures and it's normal" said Tegan. "Okay why don't you run me through the last hour or so" said Sonia. "Well they woke up, we changed their diapers, then they had a feed and then we put them back to bed. Few minutes later they both started wailing" said Tegan now in tears. "Mmm... look at their faces Tee... does it look as if they're in pain?" asked Sonia. "Mom they're bawling their eyes out, of course it looks as if they're in pain" said Tegan annoyed. "Were the diapers a normal consistency" asked Sonia. "Yeah!" said Tegan. "Mmm" said Sonia.
"Mom! What should we do, should I call Kate... should we take them to the hospital?" asked Tegan. "No just hang on... calm down. Did you burp them after the feed?" asked Sonia. "No... they... well they both fell asleep with while feeding so we didn't want to wake them up and we just put them to bed" said Tegan. "Bingo" said Sonia. "Huh" said Tegan. "Burp them Tegan" said Sonia. "Okay hang on mom I'm putting you on speaker" said Tegan as she sat down on the bed. "Burp him Linds" said Tegan. Tegan put a floppy Casey in a seated position over her one hand and gently patted and rubbed her back. Lindsey did the same with Ryan looking horrified. "Nothing's coming out mom" said Tegan. "Check her mouth, is her tongue up against the roof of her mouth?" asked Sonia. "Um... yeah" said Tegan. "That means the wind is still in there. Keep going" said Sonia calmly on the phone.
Tegan kept patting for another minute before Casey let out a large burp. Tegan let out a sigh of relief. "Well I heard something" said Sonia. "There we go... let it rip girl" said Tegan. Ryan let out a burp a second later, then another one. "That's my boy" said Lindsey. Both babies seemed to almost instantly calm down. They both looked exhausted as little residual sobs escaped their mouths. Tegan held Casey tight against her shoulder. "There we go honey... I'm sorry about that... we promise not to make that mistake again sweetie pie" said Tegan softly as she felt Casey calm down in her arms. "Shhhhh, there we go... everything's okay... that nasty old wind is out now... it won't hurt you anymore" said Tegan softly while rocking Casey. Lindsey looked at Tegan with big eyes. "Fuck" she mouthed. A few minutes later both babies were asleep and back in their crib. "Tegan?" Sonia's voice whispered on the other side of the phone. Tegan picked the phone up and walked into the hallway.
"Thank you mom... thank you... I was so scared" said Tegan in tears. "Hey don't worry honey... they're okay" said Sonia. "How could we be so stupid... stupid, stupid, stupid" said Tegan pacing up and down with her hand in her hair. "Tee... that's how you learn okay... you're going to make sure you burp them next time" said Sonia. "Hell yeah" said Tegan. "And don't worry about waking them, they usually sleep right through the burping" said Sonia. "Thanks mom... how on earth did you figure this stuff out on your own" said Tegan. "Ha... I phoned grandma, that's how" laughed Sonia. "Goodnight mom... I'm really sorry for waking you" said Tegan. "Any time Tegan... You wake me whenever you need me okay" said Sonia. "Thank you... love you mom" said Tegan. "Love you too honey... I'm proud of you" said Sonia. Tegan hung up the phone and walked back into the room. "They okay now?" she asked Lindsey. "As if nothing ever happened" said Lindsey. "Looks as if these two have quite a temper" laughed Tegan. Lindsey shook her head and burst out laughing. "We have a LOT to learn" she said. "Don't these come with an instruction manual?" joked Tegan. "Meh... we'll get there" said Lindsey and got back into bed. "Get some rest... next episode coming soon" said Tegan and yawned.
Kate kissed a sleepy Sara on the cheek. "Let's go to bed, it's getting really cold out here" said Kate. "Yeah, can't wait to see this wonderful bed of yours" said Sara. "Of ours... it's our bed now" said Kate. She helped Sara up and pulled the comforter around them. "Our clothes" said Sara. "We'll get it tomorrow" said Kate. They ran into the house and slipped into bed. "Ohhhh it's so nice and warm... did you put the warming blanket on" asked Sara. "Yeah... you know I love the wild but I do like my little luxuries" said Kate holding Sara in her arms. "My kind of woman" giggled Sara. "Katy..." whispered Sara a few seconds later. "I can't wait to have a family with you" said Sara. "Me too hon... feels as if everything in my life is finally falling into place" said Kate rubbing Sara's naked belly.
