Chapter 170
"Mooommy wake up" said Lindsey and put the twins down on the bed next to Tegan. "Five more minutes" mumbled Tegan. "That's it kids, climb right on top of her, she's feeling a bit fragile" laughed Lindsey. "Am not" mumbled Tegan. "You and Kate got to bed quite late, and don't tell me there was no drinking involved. I assume you sorted out your issues?" laughed Lindsey. "Yeah we did, weren't really any issues to sort out anyway. Oh and... there was a moderate amount of drinking involved, not too much" said Tegan with her eyes still closed, lying on her stomach clutching her pillow. Ryan had his hands on Tegan's back pushing her repeatedly and Casey pulled on a strand of her hair. "Ooouch" moaned Tegan. "That's it Ryan, CPR to get her back to life" said Lindsey holding her belly laughing. "Sorry Boo, this is hilarious" said Lindsey. "Ugh I give up. Okay, okay I'm awake" mumbled Tegan. "Monkeys! What are you doing you silly things" she said and started tickling her babies. The kids laughed out of the pits of stomachs lying on their backs kicking their feet around as Tegan pulled up their shirts and blew air onto their bare bellies making a farting sound. This made them both laugh hysterically. "Tegan shhhh, Sara and Kate are sleeping" said Lindsey. "Yeah they better sleep while they can" laughed Tegan. "I'm going to make us some coffee and some bottles, entertain these two, don't fall asleep" said Lindsey laughing. "Yeah yeah" said Tegan playing with the babies' feet. "I'm going to eat these little marshmallow toes, yes I am. It's monster mom" joked Tegan in an animated voice and pretended to bite the babies' toes much to their amusement.
A couple of hours later Tegan and Lindsey were still lying in bed playing after the babies went down for their first nap. Lindsey cuddled up closer to Tegan. "Koala?" said Tegan looking down at Lindsey. "Yeah… we never get time for the koala anymore" said Lindsey. She put her hand up under Tegan's shirt and threw her leg over Tegan's body. She slowly rubbed Tegan's abdomen up and down. "You're looking so great these days baby. All that working out sure is paying off. You're toning up so nicely" said Lindsey. "Thanks sweetie, veeeery far to go though" laughed Tegan. "Are you kidding me, feel these abs" said Lindsey. "You're so good for my ego. You look super hot yourself" grinned Tegan. "Still some baby fat" said Lindsey. "I like that" said Tegan. "You're kidding right. I have a muffin top for god's sake" said Lindsey. "Whaaaat? I like muffins" smiled Tegan and kissed Lindsey's forehead. "Well you better enjoy your muffins while you can, I need to do something about this" said Lindsey. "Wifey, I love you just the way you are" said Tegan.
"Morning beautiful" said Kate and kissed Sara's neck softly. "Hey hon" said Sara and yawned. Kate kept kissing and seductively rubbing up against Sara. "Somebody's in a better mood" said Sara. "Sorry what?" said Kate. "I said….." said Sara and pulled Kate's face out of her neck. "Somebody's in a better mood" said Sara. "Oh I'm in a great mood" said Kate smiling. "Did you sleep well?" asked Sara. "Like a log… I have a mild case of the wine flu but at least I had more than three hours sleep for a change. Didn't hear a peep from the babies or perhaps I was just too out of it to wake up" said Kate. "Good for you! I heard them once when I got up to use the loo but that's it. I love how you look in the morning" said Sara with Kate's face in her hands.
Kate went in for another kiss. "Honey, not right now please…. I'm sorry" said Sara with a sad face. "What's up?" asked Kate softly. "Just not in the mood right now sweetie. If you're this far pregnant sex is the last thing on your mind…. I'm sorry. I just want to lie here cuddling" said Sara softly and kissed Kate gently while rubbing her tummy. "That's okay, I understand. But I should be rubbing your tummy not the other way around" smiled Kate. "Oh okay then if you insist" joked Sara and lifted her shirt. "Hey baby, it's your other mommy Kate here" said Kate and kissed Sara's belly. "I can't wait to meet you. We love you so much" said Kate and kissed Sara's belly again. "You're so cute. What time is it?" asked Sara. "Uhhh…. 9.15 said Kate looking at her watch on the nightstand. "Oh crap we better get up, we have guests" said Kate. "Oh relax, we're on holiday, I'm sure they're fine" said Sara. "Yeah they've probably been up since the crack of dawn" laughed Kate. "Well that's their problem" said Sara. "I'm going to go make you a cup of tea" said Kate and jumped out of bed. "I can't wait to have my coffee back… single thing I've missed most during this pregnancy. Good coffee!" said Sara. "Decaf?" asked Kate pulling on her shirt. "What's the point" said Sara dryly.
"Morning guys" said Kate walking up to Tegan, Lindsey and the babies sitting on a blanket under a tree outside. "Morning, did you get a good night's sleep?" asked Tegan. "Sure did" said Kate. "Pregnant fairy still sleeping?" asked Tegan. "You better not let her hear you call her that, she'll take your head off" laughed Kate. "Oh I'm so scared" mocked Tegan. "She's just finishing up after her shower and then we'll have breakfast. You guys must be starving by now" said Kate. "We've been up since 6 but we've helped ourselves with some snacks and stuff so there's no rush. Sit with us, finish your coffee" said Tegan. Kate sat down and started playing with the babies. "Katherine" yelled Sara from inside sounding mad. "Oh oh" said Tegan. "Out here sweetie" yelled Kate. "What are you doing out here? I thought you've started breakfast" said Sara with her hands in her sides. "I'm sorry, just catching up with my homies here" said Kate holding Casey's hands. Casey laughed at her. "It's after 10 Kate" said Sara annoyed. "Sara chill, we asked her to come hang out with us for a few minutes before breakfast. We'll make it brunch" said Tegan. "Yeah well, I'm hungry. And hormonal so don't start with me" said Sara suddenly becoming emotional. "Okay, alright I'm coming" said Kate getting up. "I'll come help you. I get the feeling the two of us are kind of in the dog box after going to bed late yesterday" said Tegan. "You're not in the dog box Tegan" said Lindsey. "She may not be…. Me? Not so sure" said Kate.
The rest of the day was wonderful. Lindsey took some amazing photos of a complaining Sara and Kate. Lindsey managed to at least get Sara to show some belly but that was about it. Kate took some photos of Tegan and family while Sara read her book. "What a lovely day" smiled Tegan. "Yeah, looks like we may get some rain. That would be perfect, we need it" said Kate. Tegan and Kate were taking a walk next to the lake carrying the babies in two baby carriers on their chests. Kate stopped and held her back. "You taking strain there superdoc?" laughed Tegan. "Damn, how does your back cope with this" said Kate. "Practice. I don't know how you stand next to an operating table all day. That would just snap my back" laughed Tegan. "Like you said, practice" said Kate. The thunder rumbled in the distance. "We better get back, don't want to be caught in the rain with these two" said Kate.
"Hey Boo" said Tegan walking up to Lindsey reading on the porch. "Hey guys, what did you see monkey?" said Lindsey holding Ryan's feet. "We saw some flowers and some trees and a beautiful lake and a deer and a rabbit" said Tegan. "A deer! Wow, did you see Bamby guys?" said Lindsey unclipping Ryan from Tegan's chest. "Did they have the sunhats on all the time?" asked Lindsey concerned. "Of course they did. That plus the sun shirts, the sunscreen, everything. Anyway, it was cloudy for most of the walk" said Tegan. "Good. Just asking. Can't be too safe" said Lindsey. "Sara still sleeping?" asked Kate. "Yeah I think so" said Lindsey. "Poor thing has been really tired the last few days" said Kate. "Who's tired?" asked Sara with a massive yawn walking outside. "You. Did you get some rest?" asked Kate. "Yes doctor I did" said Sara. "I'm starving" said Tegan. "You're in luck. I'm making my famous spaghetti bolognese tonight" said Lindsey. "Let's get going then master chef" said Tegan and pulled Lindsey up. "Want us to look after these two in the meantime, maybe we can give them their bath?" said Kate. "Really?" said Tegan. "Sure" said Kate. "Okay, thanks guys. That would help so much. Let me just get out their PJs and stuff out for you" said Tegan. "Oh and Sara. You only get to watch okay. Take it easy" said Tegan. "Yup" said Sara.
Tegan walked into the bathroom a while later and found Kate on her knees, hanging over the side of the bath and Sara laughing hysterically sitting on the closed toilet seat. Ryan's wet hair was in a mohawk and Casey's stood in a series of spikes. "Everything okay in here?" asked Tegan. Kate turned around revealing her soaked shirt and dripping face. "Bwaahhh haaa" laughed Tegan pointing. "This business can get quite… wet" said Kate. "We're having a ball though" said Sara. "Speak for yourself" laughed Kate. Casey splashed around some more laughing. "Don't know what's funnier, these two fabulous hairstyles or Kate dripping wet" laughed Tegan. "What are you two rascals doing to your aunt Kate? Do you think she needs a hand getting you two out of here? I think she does, yes she does. She's not a pro like mommy yet" said Tegan. Sara was taking photos of the twins on her iPhone. "I'm okay Tegan" said Kate. "Just let me give you a hand, it will go much quicker. Hold this" said Tegan handing Kate a towel. "Did you wash their faces? And did you wash their bums properly?" asked Tegan. "I'm not a total idiot Tegan" said Kate annoyed but wiped Ryan's face with a facecloth. Sara winked at her.
"There we go aunt Kate, you're getting the hang of this" said Tegan as Kate dried off Casey and started putting her diaper on. "Did you give these two aunts a nice big dirty parcel earlier?" said Tegan laughing. "Boy oh boy did they ever, both of them. Sara almost hurled" said Kate. "Oh I did not" said Sara. "Well I almost did" laughed Kate. "Let's dry your gorgeous head of hair Case" said Kate and gently rubbed Casey's hair with a towel. Sara sat on the other side of the bed staring at Kate. She loved every moment of seeing Kate in mom mode and it made her look forward to their own baby even more. "Where's that comb mom?" said Kate. "Here we go" said Tegan after combing Ryan's hair back into a normal style. "There we go... all clean and fresh" said Tegan and kissed Casey's cheek.
The thunder rumbled outside and Sara got up to close the curtains to keep the flashes of lightning out. "It's going to be coming down hard any second now" said Kate. "I love the rain" said Sara. "Me too... as long as it doesn't scare my two angels" said Tegan carrying Casey to the living room. "Poor babies" said Sara. "They usually sleep right through thunderstorms though. They take after their mom, she can sleep through anything" said Lindsey in the kitchen. Sara and Kate fed Casey and Ryan their dinner as the rain started falling outside. "Good thing we have these plastic shirts that cover everything because these two look as if they need another bath... sorry" said Kate. "No problem, thanks for the help" said Tegan wiping the twins' faces. Casey was becoming fussy a short while later. "Who's a tired little girl? Busy day huh. You ready for your bottle and to say night night?" said Tegan. Lindsey handed Tegan two bottles. They have become a well oiled machine of a team when it came to the babies. "Okay, let's go get you settled. Anybody want to give a bottle while Lindsey finishes up in the kitchen?" asked Tegan. "I will!" said Sara and Kate in unison. "On second thoughts. This belly is so big I won't even be able to hold the baby properly. Go ahead sweetie" said Sara to Kate.
Lindsey dimmed the lights in the living room as Tegan and Kate settled down with the babies and their bottles. "I can sing though" said Sara and started singing a lullaby. Casey turned her head to see where the music came from. "Shhh Casey, have your bottle" said Tegan gently stroking Casey's hair. Kate stared at Ryan as he sucked on his bottle drowsily. His eyelids closed slowly and opened again a few times. He was obviously not keen to miss out on any action. Kate stroke his cheek with the pad of her thumb. "Goodnight big guy" she said when Ryan stopped sucking, his eyes closed. The empty bottle was still hanging from his open mouth.
"Okay, they're both down for the count" said Tegan after settling Casey and Ryan in the camping cot in the hallway. She wanted as little as possible disturbance from the noise and light coming from outside. "I know it's still quite early but dinner is ready when you are" said Lindsey. "I'm ready, starving as usual" said Sara.
"Thank you for a lovely dinner Lindsey" said Sara and got up to clear the table. "Relax Sara, we've got it" said Kate. "Kate I'm pregnant, not sick" said Sara. "I know, we just want to do something nice for you" smiled Kate. Sara could never resist that smile and sat back down. Everything went dark suddenly. "Whoa... there goes the power" said Kate in the dark. "Oooo scary" said Tegan and tickled Lindsey from behind. "Fuck of Tegan" said Lindsey nervously. "Don't worry, I've got plenty of torches and candles and we have a fireplace after all" said Kate and got up to find the torches in order to light the fire.
A few minutes later the fireplace was lit and it was actually quite cozy in the cabin. "It's really coming down out there" said Tegan looking out of the window. "Road's going to be messy tomorrow" said Kate. "Where are you going Sar?" asked Kate. "Just going to go get us some blankets" said Sara. "I love this weather" she said over her shoulder.
Sara put the lantern torch on the night stand and opened the door to the cupboard to get the blankets out. She reached up and suddenly felt a cramp. She put her hand on her belly for a few seconds and when the cramp subsided she reached up again only to be hit by another one. "Fuck" she whispered. She suddenly felt water running down her legs, wetting her tracksuit pants. "Oh fuck" she said louder. "Kate!" she screamed. "Kate get in here" she screamed again. Kate came running into the room a second later. "Sara? Are you okay?" asked Kate. "Kate... I... I think my water just broke" whispered Sara.
