Chapter 5 King in the North and Rumors about the Golden Lioness
Jon Snow
Jon Snow, the bastard son of Eddard Stark and some woman that he never knew. When he had heard about the sought. His older half-sister has been kidnapped.
Everyone in the North was talking about it none stop. He hated the whispers about it.
He couldn't sleep anymore. He would get up from his bed and train with his sword every single day.
Jon couldn't help but worried. No, he is full of rage.
He wants to go after those kidnappers and kill them. Jon wanted Gunnel home. However, he doesn't know where she is.
"Why is your mother so dead set on us getting pretty for the king?" Jon snorted.
Jon, Theon, and Robb were shirtless and getting themselves haircut and shave before the King and his party comes to Winterfell.
A servant name Tommy is shaving Robb's chin.
"It's for the queen, I bet," Theon replied. "I hear she's a sleek bit of mink."
"I hear the prince is a right royal prick," Robb snorted.
"Ah, but just think of all those southern girls he gets to stab with his right royal prick," Theon laughs.
Jon rolled his eyes and thought, 'Typical Greyjoy. He only thinks with his cock than his head.'
"Is the king bringing the whole family?"
"Yes, I think so." Robb shrugged. "There is her brother, Jaime Lannister and Tyrion 'Imp' Lannister."
Theon huffed. "No doubt she wants to hear about the rumors."
'Wait rumors?' Jon looked confused.
Theon answered, "Well, there have been strange sightings that Targaryen flags are flying high in the Narrow seas Coast."
"Narrow Seas?" Robb questioned.
Theon looked smug and told them. "Stepstones has gotten too quiet for the likings of others. I even heard that pirates were killed or executed by some sort of massacre. That's why they say they saw the sightings of a white Lioness there at the seashores."
"Do you believe that Gunnel is alive?" Jon asked Theon. He has to know that his sister is still alive. She was the only one who loved him openly. She would greet him with smiles and hugs.
Gods, he missed her so much. She would send him riders to give him letters. Yes, the rest of the family have letters, but she always gave him special trinkets that he had to hide from Lady Stark.
Theon grew quiet and said, "No offense, but if she is. I doubt that she is there at all. Being held prisoner or worse she could be in his company." Jon dropped his shoulders at Theon's words.
No. Not her. Anyone but her. Gunnel must be found and quickly. He fears that sick bastard who forces her innocent or make her carry a bastard in her womb. He prays that it is not the latter.
"All done, my lord," Tommy announced as Robb clean himself with a cloth.
"Thank you," Robb replied and stood up. He patted Jon in the back and shoves him down on the chair.
"Go on, Tommy, shear him good. He's never met a girl he likes better than his own hair."
Jon huffed but remained still to give Tommy a good clean job on his hair.
Jon's mind wonders off about the Rumors.
Is she alright?
Would they abandon her to the likes of him?
Never!
Jon is resolved that once his father leaves for Kingslanding then he will leave quickly to find her.
After all,…
Around Jon's neck is a necklace of the white wolf is curled with a golden wolf in a circle like pendent.
They are two rare wolves of the North. They will always find each other.
Jon vowed that he would find his sister. No matter what it takes.
Eddard Stark
Eddard Stark or Ned as his family and Robert like to call him. Does he wonder how long it been since He last time saw Robert?
He knew the years had changed both of them.
What Ned's mind wonders was not about the King or his wife nagging about meeting the royal family. It was about his daughter, Gunnel.
His precious pup is missing. He fears the worst that could happen to her. He knew he should have gone against the Old Lion to bring her home. It has been years since he last saw her.
He must find her, but he couldn't because the North needs him.
Ned doesn't like it.
Catelyn had to remind him of that. Ned would argue over it until it was too late. He should have just left that day to see her. His daughter. Now it feels like he failed her like he failed Lyanna.
The families are lined up in order.
His son, Rickon is next to his wife, Cat, himself, Robb, Sansa, Arya, and Bran.
Behind them are Theon Greyjoy and Jon Snow.
As Ned turned back his head he heard his wife comment on where is Arya? His eldest daughter, Sansa shrugged.
Arya comes with a helmet on her head.
"Hey, hey, hey. What are doing with that one?" He stops her and took off the helmet and pass Rodrick. There were Stag flags of Baratheon and soldiers carrying them. Then the Lannister soldiers and their lion flags came.
Kinsmen they maybe because of his deceased wife, but they are no family to him since they refused to allow his daughter to stay with him.
He will always carve that in his heart.
He saw the Hound who is wearing a snarling dog-like and protector of the Crown prince Joffrey who is wearing the Lannister red with the stag and lion sigil.
'That's Robert's son?'
Ned had that to himself. Prince Joffrey looks more Lannister than Baratheon. He can tell that his daughter Sansa already likes him because of those southern stories of brave knights and the royal prince who are just and loyal.
He tried to dissuade her that, but she is a child and she'll grow out of it. AT least he hopes that she will grow out of it.
He wonders do Gunnel believes that silly stories. No, knowing his former Goodfather, Tywin he would make everything cold world for her to be growing up.
His mind snapped out as he looked upon his former foster brother.
King Robert Baratheon came upon them.
Everyone had knelt before him.
He has gotten fat and looked exhausted from the looks of it.
All of them had lined up as Robert got off of his horse and went to Ned. He stomps up to Ned and prompts his family to get up.
Ned bowed his head, "Your Grace."
Robert Baratheon looked at him with his serious face, "You got fat."
Silent pause, then they both burst out laughing and hug.
Robert greeted his wife, "Cat!"
Robert hugs and kisses Catelyn like she is his long-lost sister. Poor Cat, she is too formal for her good.
Catelyn greeted him, "Your Grace."
"Nine years! Why have I not seen you? Where the hell have you been?"
"Guarding the North for you, Your Grace. Winterfell is yours."
Queen Cersei steps out of the carriage after her children with a distasteful look on her face. He remembers her, but she isn't much for her cold heart.
Not like his Jewel. She was always warm and more clever than he knew. He remembers that she has never gotten along with Cersei. Or better yet, Cersei never gets along with her little sister.
Arya asked, "Where's the Imp?"
"Will you shut up?"
Ned let out a silent sigh over this. Why can't his daughter act like sisters just for today?
Robert went to Robb, "And who have we here? You must be Robb." Robert shakes his hand.
Robert moved to his other daughter, Sansa, "My, you're a pretty one. And your name is?..."
Arya spoked proudly, "Arya."
Robert went To Bran, "Ohhh, show us your muscles. You'll be a soldier!"
Robert chuckles and moves back towards Ned. Behind him, Jaime Lannister removes his helmet.
"That's Jaime Lannister, the Queen's twin brother."
"Would you please shut up!"
Cersei walks up to Ned and offers her hand; after a moment, Eddard kisses it.
"My Queen."
Catelyn had quickly curtsying, "My Queen."
"Take me to your crypt; I want to pay my respects."
Cersei the queen called out to Robert, "We've been riding for a month, my love. Surely, the dead can wait."
"Ned."
Ned let out-breath of air that he didn't realize that he was holding in. And quickly, followed Robert into the crypt.
Eddard Stark holds a lantern for Robert to travel down to the crypts. Ned wants to know what happens to their old mentor.
"Tell me about Jon Arryn," Ned beseeches Robert.
Robert shook his head, "One moment he was fine, and then…Burned him right through him, whatever it was. I loved that man."
"We both did."
"He never had to teach you, but me…you remember me at 16? All I wanted to do was crack some skulls and fuck some girls. He showed me what was what."
"Aye," Ned answered that he remembers. He just gave Robert a side look that seemed skeptical, barely suppressing his smile.
Robert notices it right away and he simply laughs, "Don't look at me like that! It's not his fault that I don't listen."
Robert turned serious, "I need you, Ned. These are dangerous times…I need good around me, like Jon Arryn. Men like you. I need you down at Kingslanding, not up here where you're no damn use to anyone."
Robert stood tall and gave Ned his decree, "Lord Eddard Stark, I would name you the hand of the king."
Ned stood there speechlessly and humbly kneeled before Robert, "I'm not worthy of the honor."
"I'm not trying to honor you," Robert told him. Good old Ned, he hasn't changed a bit. "I'm trying to get you to run my kingdom while I eat, drink and whore my way to an early grave. Damn it, stand up, Ned."
Eddard complies as Robert continues.
"You helped me win the iron throne, now help me keep that damn thing. We were meant to rule together. If your sister were alive we are bound as brothers. Well, it's not too late. I have a son, you have daughter…My Joffrey and your Sansa shall join our houses."
This came to his surprise after all; his daughter is only 13 and no news of her being flowered.
They walk further into the crypts where they made a pass through the stature of all the Stark's family. They went to a beautiful woman stature: Lyanna Stark.
Ned Stark's sister and Robert's fiancée before Robert's Rebellion which spark the war between the Targaryen's dynasties ended and he won the Iron Throne.
Robert places a feather in her stone hands, "Did you have to bury it in a place like this? She should be on a hill somewhere with the sun and clouds above her."
He will not allow that. Ned knew that his sister just wants to come home.
"She is my sister. This is where she belongs."
"She belongs to me. In my dreams, I killed him every night." Robert gazed at Lyanna, but his eyes darken when he mentions him.
Rhaegar Targaryen.
The dragon prince kidnapped his sister and she died after Robert won the throne.
"It's done. The Targaryen's are gone." Ned assured Robert.
Robert lowered his head, "Not all of them."
"I'm sorry about your daughter."
Ned tensed himself.
"I have to know that you are searching for her. I want Gunnel home no matter what."
Robert stood up and said, "If you become my Lord Hand. I do not doubt that the Master of Whispers can give you information."
SO that it.
Robert deal for Ned.
Become his Hand and he could have all access and information to find her.
Ned's mind stuttered.
Could Robert use his daughter as an advantage to make him do what he wants?
"Think about it, Ned."
Robert patted his shoulder and walked away.
What Robert didn't see is that Ned's eyes grow dark and filled with rage. He clenches his hands that bleed enough to drop his blood on the floors.
He hated that life became unfair to him.
But Ned resolves himself.
He will find Gunnel and bring her home.
Okay, sorry for the wait I was working and busy myself for Thanksgiving, but I assure you that I am happy and healthy.
I hope you are too.
