To my followers/readers:
Thank you for giving my story a chance and I hope you stick with me to the end. I love hearing your opinions and words of love for my story. It really does keep me motivated to write the next chapter. I hope to start writing longer chapters once I get into the meat of the story. I apologize for the long wait between this chapter and the last but work has been crazy with the holiday. With that I hope you enjoy this next installment.
Chapter 6
"He thinks he knows everything! How dare him?!" Growling I gripped the steering wheel so tight it started to groan. I was driving as fast as my poor beast could handle without blowing up. I was on a damn roll today and it wasn't even two in the evening. I could still feel my blood boiling at the nerve of Charlie and just thinking of where I was headed only made my temper that much worse. I had exactly ten more minutes to stew and boy when I got to Billy's nobody was going to stand in my way. I was going to get some answers even if I had to wring someone's neck.
I pulled into the little drive leading up to the Black's house. Gravel went flying and I nearly plowed right through their front porch before I came to a screeching halt. Jumping out, I slammed my door just as Billy rolled out onto said porch. I could tell that I wasn't a welcome sight and if it could steam would be billowing out of my ears. I held my hand up as I marched straight to Billy and cut straight to why I was there before he could try his bullshit on me some more. "Where's Jacob?" An odd look crossed his face, probably because I'd never been so short or furious with him before. Honestly, I didn't give a shit I just wanted to be done with today as a whole.
"He's not here. You shouldn't be here either." He huffed as I just glared at him practically hissing at his blatant lies. "Bella, go home."
"I'm sick and tired of everyone ordering me around! Edward was a control freak, the teachers always say let it go and don't fight back, Charlie orders me to be a good little girl who curls up in a ball of fear, and you. You just spout a bunch of bullshit and expect me to follow along with whatever you say is best. I am my own fucking person, Billy Black. If Jacob wants to avoid me or not be friends anymore he can tell me his own goddamn self! That little coward has a lot to answer for! I'll go home when I damn well please after I get some real answers and not a moment before!" By this point I was shaking and my vision was flickering but I ignored the warning bells going on in my head and shoved Billy aside to stalk to Jacob's room. I could hear Billy scrambling to call someone but I didn't pay him any attention. I threw open the door to Jacob's room and there he was. The fire raging inside me took a backseat at how innocent and exhausted he looked. He was not my little Jake anymore. Far from it. His feet were hanging off his tiny twin sized mattress. He had to be at least six and a half feet tall. This was impossible. There was no way he grew so much in so little time. It was as I stared at my former best friend contemplating his growth spurt and hesitant to wake him now that I saw how exhausted he was that I heard them.
I looked up and out the window and there like they owned the place strutted four boys. Well I think they were boys. They looked similar in size to Jacob's new height. As they walked closer and I noticed the lack of shirts and almost uniform cutoffs they all wore I realized I knew them. These were the gang Jacob was so afraid of and look there's that traitor Embry hanging behind the other three bigger guys. The one in front must be Sam Uley. I remember Charlie talking about what a good guy he is for rescuing me back when the Cullens left. That must be who Billy called. I looked down at Jacob and noticed for the first time he was dressed just like them and even had a tattoo on one muscular arm. Glancing back up I swiftly bolted back out the front door and headed around to the back of the house that faced the woods where the gang stood.
"You shouldn't be here Bella. You should listen to Billy and go home. It's not safe." Sam looked so serious that I couldn't help but laugh in his face. I mean what could be more dangerous than dating a vampire when you're his blood singer? What about running from a vampire tracker and being bit? He had nothing on the dangers I'd faced.
"What's so funny, Leech Lover? You should run home to daddy, little girl." That sneer got my attention and I snapped my head to stare at him as a growl worked its way out of my throat.
"Paul, lay off!" I barely heard Sam speak. I was so focused on the man who called me that name.
"Just who do you think you are? What do you know? Nothing that's what! Call me that one more goddamn time, I dare you!" Turning to Sam I addressed why I came out there never noticing my nails had lengthened and my eyes had narrowed to slits as my teeth sharpened. "What have you done to Jacob? He never wanted to be a part of your gang. Are you giving him drugs?" Sam just stared at me in shock and never answered anything. That fire that I had been ignoring since I laid eyes on Jacob roared back to the forefront of my mind as I heard the other guy speak again.
"Hey Leech Lover! What has Jacob told you? What did he do? Are you deaf little girl? Or are you just stupid? I'm talking to you, Leech Lover." He just couldn't leave well enough alone could he? I jumped toward him making a swipe at his pretty face. I meant to just slap him but I managed to leave bloody nail marks across his cheek. I was mildly perturbed by my fascination with his blood. Before I could embarrass myself by leaning forward and licking the cuts everything changed and my worldview got a whole lot bigger.
"Paul! Calm down!" "Too late now." "I guess the wolf's out of the bag." I couldn't tell you which one said what because Paul had my undivided attention. "Bella get back!" I was only too happy to take a few steps back when Paul's shaking turned into convulsions and he practically fell to the ground. It was as he fell that in his place a giant silver gray wolf slowly stood shaking out his fur. I was content to just watch as it occurred to me I was surrounded by fucking werewolves. I mean I did date a vampire, werewolves aren't that far of a stretch. When the wolf in front of me lowered it's head and snarled I snapped out of my daze and hissed back. He took a step forward like he was going to attack and my shakes from before came back with a vengeance. I screamed out in pain and fell to my knees just as Jacob came vaulting over my head only to land as a giant russet wolf. The other three moved around the two wolves to come closer to me and I just screamed in more pain. It was as the wolves in front of me began fighting that the strongest wave of pain wracked my body and I felt like my skin was going to burst that a deafening roar sounded and suddenly the pain stopped.
I looked towards the wolves only to realize I was looking at them from a different angle than before. I wasn't on the ground anymore but I seemed to be looking from higher up than normal. I had the whole pack's attention for some reason. The Jacob wolf slowly approached me with his ears pinned like he was afraid of me. The Paul wolf just lifted his lip to snarl at me and the pack that was still human backed away from us all. I couldn't help but to return the sneer to Paul but what came out of my mouth was a deep growl. I jumped because I'm human and humans don't make sounds like that. I turned my head and saw something swishing so I craned my head even further trying to see what it was forgetting the wolves for the moment. It was a tail! I quickly looked down at my feet and instead of my trusty converse I saw huge paws! My moment of wonder was cut short when a cold nose touched my neck. I whipped around and let loose a thunderous roar and swiped at the offender. It was none other than Jacob and he is such a wuss I barely tapped him. I didn't even extend my claws. I felt a wave of euphoric pride. I may be a head shorter than even Paul is right now but I can make the bigger russet wolf whimper without trying. I am above these common dogs. They should bow before me. I huffed what would pass for a chuckle and looked to see what the other wolf was doing. I stared straight into the still snarling silver wolf's eyes and felt my world tilt on its axis.
