Natsuki Subaru was an average kid in an average world. A world with no talking cats. A world where people couldn't do things like set off explosions with their hands, or leap buildings in a single jump. Where he was from, people could grow up to 8 feet in the air, not like what he'd seen, with people growing up 50 damn feet in the air. Natsuki Subaru was an ordinary boy, who was somehow brought to a not so ordinary world.
As he left his house at night, he counted the coins on his way there. He knew what he was getting, a bag of mayo chips and some cupped noodles. He knew just how much they cost, 490 yen. He was lucky because he had 600 yen, so he would be able to keep 110 yen. Walking inside of the store, he felt the cool brisk of fresh air as he left the heat of the summer night. His tired eyes wandered around the store, sure, he knew what he wanted, but who knows what kind of hidden gem was in the store. His eyes wandered over to the manga section. A colorful manga caught his attention. It was the manga to his current favorite game. Intrigued, he picked it up and read through it. He felt as a seasoned veteran of reading manga, he could safely say, it was terrible. The story doesn't line up with the actual story, and it feels like they made the main character an Ecchi harem protagonist rather than the hero who learned to tame monsters so they would protect humanity, and not destroy it. While he knew some people would be a sucker for it, he had felt the need to put it down. As he put it down, he noticed two familiar silhouettes. One was a girl with long hair. Her wild hair reached down to her back. Her hair was golden, so bright it put the sun to shame. The silhouette next to her, was another long haired silhouette. However, this one was a boy. The silver haired boy was considered a pretty boy in Subaru's school, and was his best friend. And the long haired blonde was Subaru's childhood friend and girlfriend. Normally Subaru wouldn't mind them walking around together, seeing as they were always hanging out without him. However, he kept watching to his horror. The blonde girl had pulled the silver haired boy into a kiss. It wasn't like a small peck, it was full blown making out.
His world, his trust, and his friendliness came crashing down on him. Of course, Subaru wasn't shell shocked the entire time. Sure, someone he loved wholeheartedly and his best friend, someone that he was supposed to trust, were making out in front of him, but he wasn't going to act oblivious. He was seething with anger. He picked up his phone and started recording as they got more and more intense just across the street. He decided he's filmed enough so they couldn't deny it. While his heart hurt, he grew the willpower to come up to them.
Itsuka knew it was a bad idea. Subaru wasn't just anyone, he was Subaru. Itsuka loved Subaru, with almost her whole heart, so why did she do it? Why'd she have to pull Hiroki into a kiss. Sure, it looks Hiroko was superior to Subaru, but he was evil. He was manipulative and had girls wrapped around his fingers. He used Itsuka to reject many girls he had been leading on. However, she fell for the soft side of him. The vulnerable side of him that was innocent, that looked everywhere with admiration even if he didn't show it. He admired Subaru, for Subaru's dedication to himself. He admired Subaru for a lot of things, but his closed exterior wouldn't show it. Itsuka knew where they were, in front of a convenience store nearly 10 minutes away from Hiroto's house, and less than 3 from hers. And she knew Subaru lived 15 minutes away. The Natsuki family lived in the community, farther from the more commercial area of her town, so he wasn't supposed to be there at 3 in the morning, because he was a self respecting student. So why. Why was he there? Why was he there, at that place, at nearly three in the morning. As she was getting more and more hot from the kiss, she started noticing the world around her less and less. But those eyes, the naturally sharp eyes, had looked even sharper. It immediately stopped dead in her tracks, as she shook from the pure rage that was across the street from her.
"What's wrong" Hiroki said. He didn't notice the horrified look on her face, nor the shaking that she was doing. He was only thinking of himself. He too knew it was a bad idea, and it was wrong. To him, Subaru was a role model. He was someone Hiroto had wanted to be like. Subaru was Hiroki's first friend when he moved to the Itsumoto providence. It's not like Subaru had it easy. He knew how Subaru felt about things in his life. Subaru was already depressed enough when people around him compared him to his dad, not being able to see the greatness that was Natsuki Subaru behind the shadow of Natsuki Kenichi. He hated how everything he did was "Only expected of Kenichi's kid". He hated how his parents never seemed to notice Subaru's troubles, his lack of motivation for others. Subaru hated how his parent's never scolded him for anything he's ever done. Whether it had been in fights, sneaking out late at night, or doing nothing all day, his parents have never once scolded or grounded him. It wasn't a lack of love from his parents, but too much love. They turned a blind eye to whatever he did because Subaru was their kid, he was their perfect child. Even though he did things wrong, they always looked at the bright side of him. He knew Subaru was sick of it, and was depressed. He knew it. He knew it and yet. And yet. The feeling of regret that poured onto Hiroki was like nothing he's ever felt before. As he turned around, the eyes that used to comfort, be playful, were now filled with an emotion Hiroki had never seen in Subaru before. He's seen him angry, hell he's seen subaru furious. Yet he had never seen Subaru so distant, so untrusting. He had never seen subaru filled with unparalleled wrath. The sharp eyes that were normally knives, were now stabbing into Hiroki. He looked down and away, he was ashamed of his actions.
"I thought... What wa-..." Subaru started but stopped. He couldn't force the words out of his mouth. The words that he wanted to say, were now gone, and in return, sorrow had filled him. These two were people he was supposed to trust, second only to his own parents. He already knew he couldn't his parents through him, but this. This was too much for Subaru. Hiroki was Subaru's best friend, the two had known each other since they were in middle school. And Itsuka even longer, he had known Itsuka since he was in grade school. So the thought of the two betraying him, with each other, was criminal to him. Was everything a lie? Was this what they did behind his back. And despite everything going on through Subaru's head, nothing came to his mouth. He couldn't say anything. So he just stared. He stared, and looked straight into their souls, and saw through them. He knew he was scaring them, because they had never seen this side to him, because neither had he. He couldn't muster any words in his mouth, so instead he just turned, and walked away. He ignored them, anything they said now didn't matter, because he saw what they were, things that they hadn't told him were revealed. He was so sick of it, sick of it all. He was sick of this hurting. He was sick of things being expected of him. He was sick of everything around him. All he wanted to do now, was sit down in his room, and never leave again.
It had been a month. A month since that day. Itsuka walked into her school. She walked to her classroom, noticing the quietness that had been the past month. Subaru was usually the person who talked the most. But now, he left. She never really realized how lonely it was without him. Subaru was the center of the class, and without him, everyone's morale was low. She knew this was her fault. She knew this was her fault entirely. If she hadn't dragged Hiroki into the kiss, it could've been different. As the day went by, the teachers tried bringing up the student's low energy that seemed to radiate from Natsuki Subaru, but failed. It was evident, Subaru's absence was having an effect on the class. This was the consequence of her actions. All this by her hand. She had so much effect for doing something as simple as a kiss.
Itsuka decided she'd visit the Natsuki household. She needed to somehow, someway get him back. If not for others at least for himself. She knew she was the last person who should do this. After the way she had hurt him, she had no right to worry about him. Yet she did. She wanted him to come back to not ruin his life because of her. She knew she had done more damage than she meant to. She knew his world was broken. She knew she was the cause. However, she wasn't going to sit by, shell shocked, and act like nothing ever happened, because something did. And she needed to own up to it. It was the one thing she had learned from Subaru. So she walked. She walked 45 minutes to go to the Natsuki household. She walked and laid her eyes upon a despaired Naoko Natsuki.
"Itsuka-chan, have you seen Subaru in the past few days?" She heard a mascuine voice behind her. She turned around to see Kenichi Natsuki. The man was a giant, with a everglowing smile. However the everglowing smile had seemed to turn into a night-taken frown as the man spoke.
"No, I came to ask him to come back to school. I need to apologize to him." She responded. While simple, it carried the weight of thousands of hours of regret.
"I see. Itsuka, I don't need you to panic. In fact please do not panic, but Subaru, he's gone missing. Since five days ago when he went to the convenience store, he has yet to return." Kenichi said. Although he was trying, he could not stay in the tone of a calm man. His the water that had been walling up in his eyes had broken through as he finally came to terms with it.
However, to Itsuka, she felt it was her fault. She didn't even imagine it. Whenever Subaru had gotten mad at her before, he was always there. When she knew she was wrong, she always apologized. And whenever he was wrong, he always came to her. Subaru was always there. So for him not to be there. It was- it couldn't be true. She broke down crying, wailing like a child. She had caused this, this was her fault.
Itsuka Yaoyorozu had lost something of value that day. Even as she grew up throughout the years, she grew up throughout the years wondering what if. Why did. She would never have any idea however, that her great great grandchildren would have a run in with her first, her true love.
I woke up that morning, not expecting anything. 3 weeks ago, I learned about my girlfriend and my best friend. 3 weeks ago I learned the cold hard truth of this world, that not everything is real. I knew I couldn't keep moping, but I wasn't ready to face anyone yet. Not after my world came crashing down. My parents didn't question it. Of course they didn't. They never cared about what happened to me. Hell, I could go missing and they wouldn't so much as bat an eye. I walked to the convenience store. A different one this time. I have many painful memories in the old one. I went in and bought my stuff. A bag of mayo chips and some ramen. I continued to walk before feeling something change. I rubbed my eyes because it might've been the fact that I was tired. I stayed up all night gaming. While I continued to walk out, I blinked, and woke up a different area than where I was two seconds ago. What the hell? Everything was so strange. Everyone around me had some kind of strange quirk around me. Cat ears? In the corner of my eyes, I notice a kid with blonde hair blowing his hands up. He was screaming something about Deku and Quirkless turd. He said something about losing as well. The thought dawned upon me then. Was I in another world?
