Chapter 222

The next morning Sara went back to the hospital an hour early for visiting time. She had been a bit worried that morning when Kate didn't answer any of her text messages. She snuck into Kate's room without anybody noticing. Kate was lying on her side, asleep but looking pale. Sara had an automatic reaction of dread rise up in her. She sat next to Kate, holding her hand for half an hour before Sax came in.

"Oh Sara… hi" Sax whispered.

"Dr Sinclair, how is she?" Sara asked looking worried.

"Let's talk outside, don't want to wake her" said Sax and led Sara outside.

"She looks pale" said Sara as they stepped into the hallway.

"She's okay. Kate had a bit of a rough night, her fever spiked a couple of times but we managed to control it. I don't see any post-op complications. I've x-rayed her lungs and they look and sound clear. No sign of infection in the wounds. Her white cell count is dropping… that's good. She's been afebrile for a good 5 hours now so I'm happy about that. She's just exhausted, as you can see" said Sax.

"So she's okay?" asked Sara.

"She is right now, yes. I'm keeping her for at least the rest of the day though, probably longer to make sure the fever and infection doesn't return. It was very high last night. We're also just making sure her electrolyte balance is ok"

"Oh… alright… Anything just make sure she's okay… please" said Sara.

"You know I will" winked Sax.

-o-

"Hey sugar bum" smiled Sara when Kate eventually opened her eyes an hour later.

"Hey lovely" whispered Kate.

"How are you feeling?" asked Sara lightly stroking Kate's hair.

"Better for seeing you" smiled Kate.

"I've missed you" cooed Sara.

"Not as much as I've missed you. Help me sit up please?"

Sara helped Kate turn on her back and pressed the button to get the bed head upright.

"Sax tells me you had a rough night. Are you okay? I'm pissed they didn't call me"

"I'm fine Sar. It's not uncommon"

"That may be… but you still had me worried"

"Uh huh… sorry. How'd you sneak in here anyway?"

"Helps to have the head honcho Doctor as your friend" laughed Sara.

"Shouldn't you be at an interview right now?"

"No… going when visiting time is over. We have a couple of interviews before the next visiting time this afternoon"

"Baby, I do miss you but you don't have to be here for EVERY visiting time. I'm fine, go do your job hon" said Kate.

"Yes I do… don't fight me on this" said Sara sweetly while stroking Kate's cheek.

"I love you" said Kate.

"I adore you" said Sara.

"Oh get a room" said Tegan walking in.

"I thought we're in one" said Sara.

Tegan laughed and shook her head.

"How are you feeling?" asked Tegan.

"Better thanks. Had a bit of a rough night but I had a great, long nap this morning. Keen to get out of here" said Kate.

"Good job bud" winked Tegan.

"Tee, make sure you don't cancel any more interviews on my behalf please. I'm just going be sleeping or reading. I'm fine, I promise" said Kate.

"Okay… if you insist" said Tegan.

"I do" said Kate playing with the two hospital tags on her arm.

"You have such beautiful hands" said Sara and kissed Kate's fingers.

Kate's pale cheeks blushed.

"I love that I can still make you blush" whispered Sara and leaned over to kiss Kate softly on the lips.

-o-

It was early evening by the time the twins were finished for the day with their interviews.

"I'm getting too old for this shit" laughed Tegan leaning back in her seat as the SUV weaved slowly through traffic.

"Uh huh, me too. Should we drop you guys off at the hotel before I go to the hospital?" asked Sara.

"No I want to visit too" said Tegan.

"You think Kirsten is okay with the kids? I spoke to her a few times and she says everything is fine but…. I don't know" said Sara.

"She's fine, Anna's with them. She'll make sure she does a good job"

"You think the two of them… are like, into each other?"

"Maybe… don't know. As long as they don't get the kids involved"

-o-

"Hey you're back! How was your day?" asked Kate sitting up in bed, a book on her lap. She seemed to be feeling a lot better.

"Our day was good baby. How are you feeling?" said Sara kissing Kate's forehead.

"So much better thanks. Still a bit sore but I feel my strength returning. Had a good walk around the halls earlier. Alex and Erin were here this afternoon. I got to chat to my parents on Skype. Got plenty of sleep. I'm eating actual food again. All good" said Kate.

"That's so great baby! Did they do more blood tests? No fever?" asked Sara.

"No fever. They took some blood about an hour ago, haven't heard back about the results" said Kate.

"Hello. Blood results?" asked Sax walking into the room.

"Hi, yeah" said Kate.

"All good actually. White blood count is pretty much back to normal, so is everything else. If you remain fever free during the night I should be able to discharge you by morning with some oral antibiotics and pain meds" said Sax.

"Really? Can't I go today?" asked Kate.

"Sorry Morgan. Just need to make sure. Sending you home tomorrow will already be a favour!" smiled Sax.

"Come on… please? I'm a doctor I know what to look out for" begged Kate.

"I know you do. Being a doctor didn't do you much good the other day though. Kate… you're not ready yet. I'm sorry" said Sax.

Kate just sighed dramatically before Sax listened to her chest.

"Let me guess… it's crystal clear" said Kate.

"I wouldn't call it crystal clear… but it's sounding good" said Sax pulling up an eyebrow.

"BPs 95 over 65" reported a nurse.

"That's a bit low. Get your systolic over 100 and you can go home in the morning"

"Oh yes, it's that easy. I just tell my BP to go up" said Kate rolling her eyes.

"I have to go check on a TICU patient so I'm going to leave you to sulk in peace. See you later super girl" said Sax.

"Fuck this shit" mumbled Kate when Sax left the room.

"Now you know how I felt for months" shrugged Tegan.

"Yeah… I'm sorry about that Tee" said Kate.

"Hey, it wasn't your fault!" smiled Tegan.

"It's just frustrating. I had plans. I wanted to go with you guys to the interviews. I wanted to go jogging every morning in Central Park. I wanted to have Carnegie Deli cheesecake. I didn't want to spend my time in a place that I saw the inside of thousands of times" sighed Kate.

"I'm sorry sweetie. But you still have time you know. We can go for a walk in the park when you're out of here and well enough. Or better, we can go on one of the horsy thingies" laughed Sara.

"Ooooh the horsy thingies" laughed Kate.

Tegan was busy texting on her cell phone.

"I can't wait to take you home gorgeous" smiled Sara and kissed Kate.

Tegan smiled, she loved seeing her sister this happy. It was very clear that she absolutely adored Kate.

"When are you guys tying the knot now?" asked Tegan.

"Soon! We want to do it before the tour starts" said Sara.

"Really! That's great guys. Doesn't leave a lot of time though… weddings take a lot of prep" said Tegan frowning.

"Not really. We want to do it with just us, and the family. That's it" said Sara before kissing Kate's knuckles.

"That's it? Just us?" asked Tegan, perplexed.

"Yes, just us! Kate's parents, Alex, Erin and Leah, Mom, Dad, Bruce, You and Lindsey and the twins… Oh and of course me and Kate and Amelia"

"Wow... okay… I like it. No, I love it" smiled Tegan.

"Be my best girl Tee?" asked Sara.

"Mmm I'd have to think about it…" winked Tegan.

Sara shook her head and smiled.

"Duh, of course I will" smiled Tegan.

"You baby? Who's your bestie gonna be" asked Sara.

"Alex of course" said Kate.

"Okay great, half the wedding organised already!" said Lindsey.

"Seriously though guys, let me know what I can do to help" said Tegan.

"We will, promise. But really, it shouldn't be a lot of work" said Sara.

"I'm so happy for you guys. You two are so fucking good together" said Tegan.

Twenty minutes later Tegan briefly left the room after her cell phone rang. She returned a minute holding something behind her back.

"Surprise" she said grinning.

"Ooooh I love surprises! Where's my baby girl?" grinned Kate.

"Aah… sorry it's not Amelia" said Tegan.

"Oh" said Kate looking disappointed.

"But it is a large slice of Carnegie deli cheesecake"

"Oh my gosh, thank yooooou! When did you organise this?"

"When I heard you talk about it earlier. Forgot how much you love it. Got the security guy to make a quick cheesecake run" said Tegan.

"Thanks buddy, you're the best. The food in this place sucks" said Kate.

"Thank you Tegan, that was really thoughtful" said Sara.

"It's the least I could do, enjoy! Leave me a bite" said Tegan laughing as Kate started tucking into the cake.

"Take it easy!" laughed Sara.

"Well somebody seems to be feeling a bit better" said Alex coming into the room. He kissed his sister on the cheek.

"I am thanks!" smiled Kate with a mouth full of cheese cake.

"Where have you been?" asked Tegan.

"Got… caught up at the nurse's station" said Alex blushing.

"Alex just say no!" joked Kate.

"He can't, he's too much of a nice guy" said Tegan squeezing Alex's shoulder.

"And then one photo or one autograph becomes 20" said Kate.

"Oh Alex, you're so wonderful. You're so hot" joked Tegan with a high pitched voice and her hand on her heart.

"Fuck off Tegan" joked Alex good-heartedly.

"Baby, I'm going to try and convince Sax to send me home tonight" said Kate to Sara.

"Katy… she already said no. Tomorrow morning" said Sara.

"But I think I'm good, I'm okay to go" said Kate.

"Kate no! Please! I cannot afford to be worried sick about you tonight. I want to know that she is one hundred percent sure when she discharges you. I don't want to have to check your temperature the whole night. I'm going to have a fucking anxiety attack" said Sara shaking her head.

Everyone in the room went quiet and looked at Sara.

"I'm… I'm sorry I'm such hard work" said Kate looking sulky suddenly.

"Sweetie… it's not that. I just. I worry about you, so much. The other night I thought I was going to have a heart attack myself. Babe I thought you were dying" said Sara and touched Kate's cheek.

Kate turned her head away and her gaze fell on Tegan. Tegan gave her a sad smile mixed with a frown. She silently mouthed the word "please" to Kate.

Sara seemed upset now. She wiped a tear from her cheek.

"Sar… I'm sorry, that was unfair" said Kate softly.

"No… I'm sorry. Katy, you know I'll stay awake and nurse for you for weeks if I have to. I just want you to be okay. I'm scared. I want them to fix you" cried Sara.

Everybody else in the room were taking amongst themselves to try and give Sara and Kate a bit of privacy.

"I'm okay. I don't want you to worry baby. Really, I'll be fine" said Kate softly.

"I know babe… but please, let's be sure" said Sara.

Kate stared into Sara's eyes for a few long seconds. "Okay… I'll stay. I love you" she whispered into Sara's ear.

"I love you more" whispered Sara and smiled.

A few minutes later Sara excused herself to go to the bathroom.

"Kate, thank you" said Tegan the second Sara was gone.

"Huh" said Kate.

"Thank you for not pushing any more. She… look I think this whole thing scared the shit out of her. She just wants to be sure you're okay. She's so anxious about this, fuck Katy… please just put her mind at ease" said Tegan.

"You got it Tee. As long as you organise me a bagel with cream cheese, salmon and capers. Waiting for me the minute I get out of here" smiled Kate.

"You got it! Glad to see you're getting your appetite back" winked Tegan.

"Actually, I'm feeling a bit nauseous after that cheese cake... But don't worry, I'm sure I'll be eating like a horse again by tomorrow" Kate smiled.

-o-

"Wakey, wakey dopey!" said Sax strolling into Kate's room the next morning.

"Go awaaaay" mumbled Kate and pushed her face into a pillow.

"Oh what a beautiful moooorning, oh what a beautiful daaaay" Sax started singing. She pushed the button to lift the head of the bed.

"Shut uuuuuup" moaned Kate.

"Oh alright then, I'll tell them you don't want to go home" said Sax.

"Okay, alright… I'm awake!" said Kate and rubbed her eyes.

"Sorry to wake you. Nurse said you slept right through early morning vitals check" said Sax.

"I'm a good sleeper" said Kate still groggy.

"I figured" said Sax reading Kate's chart.

"What time is it?" asked Kate. It still seemed relatively dark outside.

"6.25. That's late! See, I told you California is making you soft" said Sax.

"Ugh… I'm not at work. I'm supposed to be resting, I'm sick" grunted Kate.

"Oh suddenly you're sick. Last night you told me there's nothing wrong with you. Oh and you were fast asleep by 8.30 last night" said Kate.

"Whatever" grunted Kate and yawned.

"Anyway… Thought I'd pop in before trauma rounds start" said Sax.

"Thanks, I appreciate it" mumbled Kate.

Sax proceeded to give Kate a thorough examination.

"So, you ready to go home? Or go hotel rather?" asked Sax.

"Hell yeah" grunted Kate.

"Alright, I'll ask the nurse to let Sara know she can come pick you up during morning visiting hour. Drip should be through by then" said Sax.

"Yes sir" joked Kate.

"You know the drill. Take your medication as prescribed. Finish the course of antibiotics. No heavy lifting, that includes babies and toddlers. Take it easy for a couple of weeks. Keep the wounds clean. In about 10 days those stitches can come out. Don't be tempted to do it yourself! Keep an eye on your temp. Get plenty of rest. Drink lots of fluids. No spicy food" Sax rattled the list of rules off.

"You done?" said Kate looking bored.

"Oh and no… funny business until the stitches are out" said Sax.

"Oh come on!" said Kate annoyed.

"Yep… sorry" said Sax.

"Well, who's going to know?" winked Kate.

"I'm warning you Morgan! I'm not patching up your insides again" said Sax.

"Yeah, yeah" said Kate. "Can I go back to sleep now?"

"Sure, but they're going to wake you up in half an hour for breakfast"

"You're mean!" joked Kate and pulled the covers over her head.

-o-

By the time visiting hour arrived and Sara showed up to take Kate back to the hotel, Kate was already showered and almost ready to go.

"Hey sugar, you're looking nice and fresh. And look, your even have a bit of colour in your cheeks" said Sara taking Kate's face in her hands before kissing her.

"I'm good! Sax is discharging me. Just need my clothes" said Kate trying to take the overnight bag from Sara's hand.

"No… It's heavy, I've got it" said Sara.

"Alright… as you wish" said Kate, not keen on starting a fight.

"And somebody needs to remove this IV" said Sara.

"Oh… yeah. The nurse will come do that soon, and if she doesn't I'll just do it myself" said Kate.

"You will do no such thing!"

"Yes mother, help me get dressed please. This fucking cast is killin me"

"How did you cope in the shower with the cast? Or did you get one of the hot nurses to help you" winked Sara.

"I coped… alone… with a bit of difficulty. Had the plastic thing around the cast. It was sooo much nicer when I had my hot nurse Sara assisting me" said Kate seductively and kissed Sara's neck.

"You getting cabin fever?" joked Sara.

"Yes! I need to go… now" said Kate laughing.

A few minutes later a senior resident came walking in.

"Morning Dr Morgan. I'm just going to give you a final check-up and remove your IV, after that and your signature on some paperwork you're free to go" he said.

"Thanks, where's Dr Sinclair?" asked Kate.

"She sent me. Got paged for a major trauma. She's going to be stuck in surgery for a couple of hours"

"Oh" said Kate sounding disappointed.

"We should invite her to dinner before we go back to LA" said Sara.

"Sure, that sounds great" Kate nodded.

The resident gave Kate a quick examination and carefully removed her IV.

"Take it easy today, your BP is still a bit low" he said.

"Sure thing" said Kate, keen to get out of there.

"Here you go, your prescription for both pain medication and antibiotics. I assume you know the drill" said the resident putting a brown paper packet on the bed.

"Yeah thanks, no problem" said Kate and picked up the bag heading for the door.

"Paperwork" said the resident.

Kate rolled her eyes and slumped her shoulders.

"Alright, can we get this done please! I am sick of this place, no offense"

The resident just laughed.

"Please tell Dr Sinclair I'll give her a call during the course of the day"

"So you're the famous Kate Morgan huh" said another resident where Kate was signing paperwork at the nurses station.

"What do you mean?" Kate frowned.

"They still talk about you… a lot. The trauma team" said the female resident.

"Oh… really?" said Kate frowning.

"You are the resident she measures everyone else against"

"I don't know if that's a compliment or an insult" said Kate, genuinely perplexed.

"A compliment. Not a lot of people impresses Saxon Sinclair"

"Thank you… I guess" Kate smiled.

-o-

Kate seemed to be walking relatively comfortably and complained when the orderly made her ride in a wheelchair to the front door.

"Are there paps out there?" she asked Sara.

"Just a few left babe. Its fine, the security guys are here" said Sara squeezing Kate's shoulder.

Kate got out of the chair and walked to the door. She sighed.

"I'm sorry baby… sorry you have to face this" said Sara putting her arms around Kate's neck.

"It's fine babe. Nobody cares about my appendix and my arm. They're all here for you" smiled Kate.

"I don't think so" smiled Sara and took Kate's healthy hand and headed for the door.

"Can I say… I mean, why you were in there? I mean, this is a private issue" said Sara.

"I don't care, tell them. It's not a big deal" said Kate.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, really! They won't stop fishing until they know anyway"

The paps immediately started clicking and shouting when Kate and Sara stepped out.

"Sara! Sara over here! Dr Morgan, why were you hospitalised?" the paps shouted as Sara and Kate walked to the car. They continued shouting until Sara stopped.

"Okay hang on! Shut up for a sec!" Sara said loudly.

"Kate was hospitalised because her appendix ruptured. She gave us a bit of a scare but she's going to be just fine" said Sara squeezing Kate's healthy hand.

"And your arm? How will this impact your career?" somebody yelled.

"It won't… My hand is fine, I fractured a small bone in my hand and sprained my wrist in an unrelated incident. We're expecting a full recovery" said Kate and opened the car door.

"Sara! Is this going to affect your tour in any way?"

"No… unless there are complications and we don't expect there to be. The tour and the promo tour are going ahead. Thank you guys we have no further comments for now. Kate needs to get some rest" said Sara and protectively helped Kate into the car.

"Sara! Are you guys getting married?" yelled somebody.

"No comment" said Sara fast and got into the car behind Kate.

"That was a fast no comment" laughed Kate as the car pulled away.

"You know what, fuck 'em. I don't want the world on my doorstep the day I marry you" said Sara.

"You know you just made them suspicious" laughed Kate.

"I just realised that, yes" laughed Sara.

"It's fine, they'll be expecting a massive thing and they won't find it. We're fine" smiled Kate.

"I'm so happy you're out of there. I was so worried and I missed you" said Sara and put her head on Kate's shoulder.

-o-

"Look who's back" said Sara when she walked into the hotel suite.

"Shhh, babies sleeping" said Tegan. Alex and Erin were making coffee in the kitchen. Tegan hugged Kate hello.

"Welcome 'home'" said Tegan with air quotations. "You okay? You look better"

"Thanks buddy. I'm fine" smiled Kate.

"Sit down, one, or rather a range of bagels coming up" said Tegan.

"Cheese cake? Bagels? This isn't really like you" said Sara smiling.

"Meh… fuck it, I can use a few extra pounds right now and a bit of extra carbs aren't going to kill me"

Kate, as well as Sara, Tegan and Lindsey all usually ate very healthy. Cutting out sugar and refined carbohydrates as much as they could although they loved having it occasionally. This morning however, everybody was indulging in bagels and pancakes.

"That was amazing" said Kate rubbing her belly.

"Oh yeah… I think I may go into a food coma soon" said Tegan.

"Please don't… no more hospital please" said Kate laughing.

"I'm with you there" said Tegan.

"When's your next interview?" asked Kate.

"In about… an hour actually" said Sara.

"You guys go, Erin and I will stay with Kate and the kids" said Alex.

"We do pay a nanny you know, if you guys had something else you needed to do?" said Tegan.

"Nope… we're happy hanging with little sis" said Alex ruffling Kate's hair. "You can sleep Kate, I have my New York Times and about 4 scripts to work through".

"No way, I'm not sleeping" said Kate.

"Babe… don't push things too fast please" said Sara.

"Sar, I'll stay here, I'll take it easy and I'll sleep if or when I'm tired okay."

"We need to go guys. We should be back around 5. Take it easy Kate" said Tegan picking up her jacket.

"Don't… be… a hardass" said Sara through kisses on Kate's lips.

Kate just laughed and kissed Sara hard before slowly lying down on a couch.

A few minutes after the twins left, Kirsten came into the living room.

"Dr Morgan… I mean Kate… it's so good to see you. How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Hi Kirsten. I'm a lot better thanks, just need to take it easy for a few days" smiled Kate where she was lying on the couch.

"I was so worried. Can I get you anything? Some tea? A blanket?" Kirsten asked.

"Oh no thanks, I'm fine" said Kate.

"Well, please just call if you need anything at all… anything. I'm right here" said Kirsten.

Alex gave Kate an amused grin.

"Thank you. Taking care of the kids is already a huge help. I'm not supposed to be lifting anything heavy" said Kate.

"You don't have to lift a finger!" smiled Kirsten.

Kate smiled back.

Kirsten blushed and looked down.

"I'm going to check on the kids" she mumbled and went into the kids' bedroom.

"Does she have a crush on you?" mouthed Alex stifling a laugh.

"No" said Kate bluntly looking disgusted.

"Oh I think she doooooes" said Alex.

"Maybe… now that you mention it. You jealous?" Kate joked.

"Fuck, what do I do about that?" said Kate looking flustered after the realisation suddenly hit her.

"Nothing. Just keep being… polite, not overly friendly, just polite. Other than that, ignore it if you ask me" said Alex.

"Yeah? I guess you have some sort of experience with this? What with the whole world being in love with you?" said Kate.

"Funny" said Alex rolling his eyes.

"I'm gonna take a nap until Erin gets back from her run. You're being a grouch" said Kate.

"You should go nap in the bedroom, the kids will be awake soon" said Alex.

"That's fine, I want them to wake me"

"Kate" said Alex frowning.

"Oh chill. I've been sleeping my ass off for the last two days. I'm good, trust me" said Kate annoyed and turned on her side.

Alex picked up one of the thows on the couch and gently covered his sister.

"Get some sleep" he said softly.

-o-

Kate tried her best to get a bit of sleep but the last of the IV pain meds seemed to be wearing off now and her abdomen throbbed dully. She stared at the package on the coffee table containing more than enough pain medication but she clenched her eyes tight after a minute and tried some breathing exercises to work through the pain. It didn't help much but Kate was determined not to take a pain pill, at least not until night time.

"Katy? You still awake?" asked Alex softly.

"Uh huh… just a bit sore" said Kate.

"Can I get you something? I know you don't want to take pain meds but maybe you should. You'll be fine" said Alex.

"I don't want to take chances" said Kate.

"Just let me give you some over the counter stuff… Ibuprofen or something?"

"No I'm fine"

"Kate, please… you're obviously in pain"

"I'm fine… drop it" said Kate sounding annoyed.

"Kate… I won't let you fall… I won't let you get addicted again" said Alex softly.

"You can't guarantee that! I'm sorry… I'm just scared" Kate started crying.

"It's okay… I promise" said Alex sitting next to his sister, rubbing her back.

Kate just nodded.

"Deep breaths… you're okay… There we go. In… and out" Alex coaxed.

-0-

"Look who's awake" said Erin coming into the room a few minutes later.

"Baby girl!" Kate called and tried to sit up. She felt a wave of dizziness hit and swayed.

"Whoaaa…. You okay?" asked Alex looking worried.

"I'm good… just sat up too fast. Give me a sec" said Kate suddenly looking pale.

"Damn it! I knew she sent you home too early" said Alex.

"I'm fine" Kate said again.

"I'm taking your temperature" said Alex.

"Alex stop it… I'm fine. Give me Amelia please" said Kate.

Erin reluctantly put Amelia down next to Kate.

"Hey cutie pie. Where's mommy's little super star" Kate cooed. Amelia laughed out loud.

Without asking Alex put a thermometer into Kate's ear. Kate sighed.

"It's a bit high. 100.1" said Alex.

"Crap" Kate mumbled.

Before she could even complain Alex was on his phone.

"Hi Sax it's Alex, sorry to bother you, do you have a minute?

She says she's fine but she's in some pain, her temp's 100.1" said Alex.

"I don't believe this" said Kate shaking her head.

"Uh huh… yeah… that's what I've been telling her…. Okay, sure will do…. Thank you" said Alex and hung up.

"She said to keep an eye on it. She may have to put the drain back in. She also said to take the medication. It will help with the fever and inflammation. She said she'll pop by during her lunch break" said Alex.

"You didn't have to call her… She's a very busy person you know, now she needs to come all the way here for nothing" said Kate.

"Kate… if it was nothing she wouldn't come" said Alex.

-o-

"You guys must be on top of the world. A number one album, a number one single. Incredible success after what can only be described as a very challenging couple of years" said the radio interviewer.

"We're ecstatic, very blessed" said Sara.

"And of course, you both became parents. Tegan you got married and Sara you're in a very happy long term relationship" he said.

"Our lives sure have changed but we're absolutely loving it. We're both incredibly happy and I think that… that I know now how precious life is you know… how fast it all can change" said Tegan.

The interviewer kept asking about the kids and home their home lives. Tegan shifted uncomfortably but answered his questions.

"How do you make it work Sara? Your partner is a surgeon, she must have a hectic schedule and then you have to tour and…"

"We manage just fine. It's hard sometimes but we're figuring it out one day at a time" said Sara sounding slightly annoyed.

"How did what happened to you in the last few years affect your work? I mean, not only a life threatening illness, an abduction and the death of a close friend. And Sara, apparently your partner had a bit of a scare herself this week?" he asked.

"I don't see how that's a relevant question"

Tegan suddenly looked pale.

"I… I just want to find out if she's okay"

"She's going to be fine thanks, I wouldn't be here if she's not" said Sara not offering any further information.

"It's been challenging for us. Obviously… it's been the shittiest time of our lives and the best time of our lives. I'm happy I'm alive! I just… we want to… look, it's hard reliving it over and over. We've had to share a lot more of our personal lives than ever before. We've always been used to some degree of intrusion into our private lives but… this… I mean, when I was hospitalised there was press camped out outside for weeks on end. To an extent I can understand that but when it comes to our families, we'd rather keep that as private as we can. They didn't sign up for this. But we do thank you for your concern" said Tegan.

"Well… thank you for coming in. That was Tegan and Sara, here's their new single" said the interviewer, suddenly cutting off the rest of the interview. The music started playing.

"I'm sorry… did we do something wrong?" said Sara.

"I don't need to be reprimanded on my own radio show Miss Quin" said the guy.

"I can't say I'm sorry… You hardly had a single question about our music. Listen man, our kids and our partners… we don't mind talking about them but we don't want them full on in the spotlight. You'll just have to deal with that" said Sara and got up. She headed for the door.

"Thank you for your time" said Tegan. She grabbed Sara's arm and pulled her out of the studio.

"I'm so fucking pissed off" Sara vented.

"I know right… what an asshole!"

"Sorry that happened you guys… thanks for coming up for us though" said Lindsey.

"I miss Jeremy today… he would have known how to handle this" said Tegan watching Tom talk to the interviewer.

"Oh Tee… I miss him too" said Sara and hugged her sister.

"Let's go… we should check on Kate before the next interview" said Tegan.

Kate finally took some ibuprofen and fell into a restless sleep on the couch. She was used to sleeping through the babbling of the kids so it didn't bother her much.

She opened her eyes she stated when Sax's face hovered over her.

"What the" she mumbled.

"Morgan… what's going on with you?" said Sax.

"Nothing… you didn't have to come" said Kate.

Sax didn't ask but simply started examining Kate.

"What the hell is going on with your BP? 90 over 60 again. Temp's still hovering around 100" said Sax.

"I have naturally low BP" mumbled Kate.

"I should have kept you longer" said Sax to herself.

"No you shouldn't, look at this… no infection" said Kate pulling up her shirt.

"On the outside at least. I'm considering putting the drain back. Something is going on here and I'm not liking it" said Sax.

"I'm just sore okay… haven't really… taken a lot of pain meds" said Kate.

"Well why not?" frowned Sax.

"I…. dunno" shrugged Kate.

"Why are you making it so hard on yourself" sighed Sax.

"Listen, just take the blood. I'm pretty sure there's no infection. Anyway… if there is you can put me back on the IV right here"

"Kate Kate Kate…. always so full of shit" sighed Sax.

"Alright… let me get the blood to the lab. Meanwhile. You… get in bed please"

"No…. the couch is fine" said Kate.

"Alex, keep her on the couch. Only trips to the bathroom allowed" said Sax.

"Geez I may as well still be in the hospital… or prison" said Kate.

"Okay… you want to go? Because we can go? I'm sure your bed's still nice and warm" said Sax seemingly fuming.

"Oh chill please" said Kate laying back on the couch.

"I'm not kidding Morgan… take it easy and for god sake take some pain meds. You look as if you're about to pass out"
