Chapter 230

It was after lunch when Tegan pulled up to Kate's lake house the next morning. The kids had been a nightmare in the car and both she and Lindsey were cranky and hungry when they got there. The kids were finally taking a nap and Tegan dreaded moving them out of their car seats in fear of waking them up. She did so anyway and as predicted both were wide awake two minutes later.

"Come on guys… seriously… go back to sleep" said Tegan.

"Barely twenty minutes does not count as a nap. Come on guys" said Lindsey.

"I'm driving up and down the road a few times until they fall back asleep" said Tegan.

The kids were screaming their heads off when Tegan buckled them back into their seats.

"Monkeys please! Here we go… let's go in the car… that's it… nice and easy… close your eyes" said Tegan.

Half an hour later Tegan pulled up to the house again. Both kids were still screaming.

"No luck?" asked Lindsey waiting in the driveway next to Kate.

"I give up… I give up" huffed Tegan getting out of the car.

"Hi Tegan" grinned Kate.

"Hi, let's guess, your little angel is sleeping peacefully"

"No… actually, Sara's having a rough time with her too" laughed Kate.

Tegan picked up Ryan and Lindsey got Casey. They were both still moaning but seemed to be calming down after being freed from their car seats.

"Come on you two… let's get you to bed. I know you must be sick of the car.

"Nooo, Mammaaaa" Casey started sobbing again.

"Kate, do you think they're sick? What's going on… Please just… help me" begged Tegan.

"I'm sure they're fine but let's get them to the bedroom and I'll check them out to f it will make you feel better" said Kate kindly.

Kate thoroughly checked the twins over. She packed away her stethoscope and turned to Tegan.

"They're fine from what I can see. Both have slightly elevated temperatures but I'm sure it's because they worked themselves up so much and they're both definitely teething. It's the big ones coming out so I'm sure it's painful. I'll keep an eye on them but I'm not worried at all. They'll feel better after a nap and a bit of Tylenol syrup" said Kate getting out some medication.

"Oh babies… does your mouth hurt? Sweetie pie mommy's sorry" cooed Tegan.

"Go wash your hands thoroughly. You too Linds. It sometimes helps to massage the gums a bit" said Kate.

Five minutes later Tegan and Lindsey lay on the large bed with the kids between them, massaging gums. The kids eventually fell asleep but Tegan was too scared to move in case she woke them up.

"Do you think we can risk getting up? I'm starving" whispered Tegan.

"I think so, but we'll have to put them down in the camping cot. Last thing we need is one of them falling off the bed" whispered Lindsey.

Tegan carefully got up and picked Casey up. She started moaning when Tegan moved to put her down. "Shhhh…. Mommy's here…. Shhhhh" Tegan whispered bouncing her gently up and down. She softly moaned again. "Oh god please… sleep sweetie" Tegan whispered with her eyes closed.

"Finally, I aaalmost gave up!" sighed Tegan walking into the living room. She hugged her sister hello.

"You to look wrecked. You okay?" asked Sara.

"Let's just say we've been… challenged the last few days" said Tegan stretching out on the couch.

"It's all cyclical Tee" said Kate.

"I know… just wish we were in a good cycle right now" laughed Tegan.

"Lunch is waiting in the kitchen guys. After that you may want to take a nap yourselves" smiled Sara.

"No, we're here to hang with you guys. Don't worry we're fine" said Tegan.

"Oh… because we're going to take a nap now. Alex, Erin and the parents are only arriving late afternoon" laughed Sara.

"Thank you" sighed Tegan. "I'm beat"

Everybody laughed and settled in for a long nap after lunch.

Casey and Ryan woke up in a much better mood and were playing with Amelia under a tree next to the lake.

"Gosh it's gorgeous here. It's so… peaceful. Feels as if I can breathe again for the first time in ages" said Lindsey laying back in Tegan's arms.

"Sure is… I'm glad you're feeling a bit better Boo. I was so worried about you" said Tegan and kissed Lindsey's temple.

"I'm sorry I worried you baby… but thank you, for everything. I love you" said Lindsey turning her head back.

"You're welcome. I love you too… like crazy" smiled Tegan.

"Drinks everyone" said Kate carrying a tray out. Sara followed with some snacks.

"Hey love birds! So, excitement's building. How are you feeling?" asked Tegan.

"Excited. I can't wait to make this official" said Kate and turned to kiss Sara.

"Me too" smiled Sara, clearly head over heels in love.

The kids started veering too far away and Tegan got up to go get them.

"Let me give you a hand" laughed Sara. Amelia was crawling as fast as she could, clearly frustrated that she couldn't run after them.

"How are you holding up Linds? You feeling okay?" asked Kate.

"Good… physically at least. Not peeing blood anymore, that's a good thing. Still a bit stiff and sore but so much better" said Lindsey.

"That's good to hear. I'm here if you need me okay" smiled Kate and patted Lindsey's thigh.

"You're a good friend Kate… you're amazing. Thank you, for this… and for what you do for Tegan" said Lindsey suddenly becoming emotional.

"No need to thank me Linds… it's my pleasure" said Kate.

"How are YOU feeling doctor?" asked Lindsey.

"Hundred percent! No pain any more, stiffness is gone. I guess time heals all wounds. Time and some thermo nuclear strength antibiotics" laughed Kate.

"Good, how's the hand?" asked Lindsey.

"Mmm, not bad I think. Doesn't hurt. Hope to get the cast off in the next week or two and replacing it with a removable cast so I can start physical therapy. It'll be fine though" smiled Kate.

Tegan sat back down after putting Ryan back on the blanket. She was out of breath and took a puff from her inhaler.

"You okay?" asked Kate softly.

"Yeah! Absolutely" said Tegan taking a deep breath.

"Boy are we a bunch of wrecks" said Lindsey.

"Don't worry, I'm fine and I'll look after all of you" joked Sara.

"I think they're here! I hear a car coming" said Kate jumping up excitedly.

Everybody greeted Alex, Erin, baby Leah and all the parents. Sara put Amelia down on the lawn while she talked to her parents.

"Oh my gosh! Sara she's walking! She's walking" yelled Kate.

"Amelia! Yes honey you're doing it!" yelled Sara. Amelia plonked back down on her bum two seconds later.

Everybody was cheering madly and Amelia's bottom lip started quivering.

"No no, don't cry sweetie! You did great! You're walking" laughed Sara. She picked Amelia up and kissed her a couple of times. Kate joined in and kissed her too.

"Wanna try again? Let's try again!" said Sara putting her down but Amelia seemed to suddenly have performance anxiety and she pulled her legs up.

"Come on Amelia. Come walk with your cousins!" said Tegan taking the twins hands. Erin put Leah down too and Amelia put her legs down and started walking. Keen to get to her cousins.

Kate turned to Sara and embraced her. She kissed her before hugging her tight. "These are the moments we'll remember for the rest of our lives babe" she whispered.

Kate and Sara took the parents to the house up the road to get settled. Caterers were already preparing for dinner.

"I'm having such a great time" said Kate in the car on the way back.

"So am I. Wish this could go on forever" said Sara.

"We're going to be blissfully happy… forever"

Kate suddenly turned abruptly down a small dirt road towards the lake.

"Where are you going?" asked Sara.

"No I mean, the parking break is sticking into my thigh…. Get out of the car" said Sara breathlessly.

Kate just about jumped out and ran around the car where Sara was already waiting outside.

"I think I have a new wallpaper" said Sara.

"Don't you dare Sara Quin" laughed Kate and got up. She quickly buttoned her pants and chased Sara to the water.

"No… no no" laughed Sara.

"Alright… okay" giggled Kate and took Sara's hand.

"You're full of grass and bugs" chuckled Sara.

"So are you" said Kate fishing leaves from Sara's hair.

"And you're still half naked" said Sara and opened Kate's unbuttoned shirt and kissed her breast again.

"Don't start again Sara or we'll never get home" warned Kate.

"I don't care" said Sara.

"Our babysitters?" said Kate smiling and arching an eyebrow.

"Okay I'll let you go. Babe, do you think Amelia is old enough to sleep over at gran's or aunt Tegan's for a night or two?" asked Sara.

"I don't know, I guess. She's pretty used to them" said Kate.

"I just really want to have you all to myself for a day or two. I think we deserve a honeymoon"

"I'd love that" smiled Kate and kissed Sara again.

"Spoke to mom and she said you guys left ages ago" smiled Tegan.

"Sara its okay, you're in love, it's a natural thing"

"Okay… alright… you've got us, just shut up now" said Sara, now beet red.

Kate just shook her head and started laughing.

"You're the one that brought it up! I'm going to kick your ass Quin!" said Kate and started running after Tegan down to the lake.

"What on earth is going on?" asked Lindsey coming out of the house.

"Tegan's being an asshole" laughed Sara.

"Hey! Go easy on her Kate she's unfit" laughed Lindsey.

"So am I" laughed Kate eventually catching up to Tegan and taking her head into a wrestling grip.

"Okay you got me… sorry" said Tegan. Kate let her go.

"So… was it hot?" winked Tegan.

"Tegan I swear…." said Kate and mock kicked Tegan's bum.

Tegan was a little out of breath from the run.

"You okay?" asked Kate.

"Sure… I'm not wheezing I'm just really unfit" laughed Tegan.

"Okay, we should start exercising… soon!" said Kate.

"Sure, we're still taking our bikes on tour right?" said Tegan.

"Sounds fabulous. Meanwhile, how about we walk a couple of miles tomorrow morning"

"Uh… sure" Tegan frowned.

"Tee it's really good exercise, probably the best exercise out there" said Kate.

"Yeah I'm not arguing" said Tegan.

"Okay, it's a date" said Kate as they reached the house again.

"Kate you shouldn't be running around like this" said Sara.

"I'm fine Sar. It wasn't a marathon" laughed Kate.

"I know… but still, just take it easy please"

"Tomorrow morning we go walking. All of us need the exercise. I'm worried I won't even last a whole show when we start touring" said Tegan.

"Really? Wow, we should… I um… do you feel run down?" asked Kate sounding concerned.

"No no… I'm just unfit and touring just takes a hell of a lot out of you physically. It's quite a workout on stage" laughed Tegan.

"We'll get into the swing of things fast. Don't worry. Unless you've got some choreographed dance moves planned" laughed Sara.

"Oh hell no… I'm too old, too tired and too talented for that shit" laughed Tegan.

"Yup! Anyway, what a beautiful evening. Dinner will be served at seven thirty on the deck ladies" said Sara.

"Or rather, dinner will be served as soon as all the kids are in bed" laughed Kate.

It was a balmy evening and the wedding party was enjoying an amazing dinner on a large wooden deck close to the water. The kids were tucked into bed and Kirsten and Anna was babysitting. Kate and Sara didn't have to lift a finger as everything was being taken care of by an exceptional catering company.

"Tonight isn't the time for speeches but I just want to say that we're so happy you're all here" said Sara grinning from ear to ear. Kate picked up her hand and kissed her knuckles.

"I agree, everybody we love most in this world around one table. Thank you" smiled Kate.

"I think I speak for us all when I say that it's an honour to share this time with you" smiled Tegan.

"Cheers, to Kate and Sara" said Alex lifting his glass.

"So, should I take the couch tonight?" Kate asked Sara where they were standing on a pier watching the stars.

"What are you talking about?" said Sara confused.

"It's the night before our wedding" laughed Kate.

"You… are not going anywhere except our bed" smiled Sara and kissed Kate.

"Phew! I was hoping you'd say that"

"I know I say it all the time but I love you" said Sara

"I love you too… and you can never say it too much"

"Tomorrow this time we'll be officially married"

"I can't wait" grinned Kate.

"Me neither. We better get back to our guests"

"Yeah, let's go have a nightcap because I can't wait to get to bed" laughed Kate.

"You are insatiable! No sex the night before the wedding"

"But you said…" said Kate looking disappointed.

"We can sleep together… emphasis on sleep. We need to uphold SOME sort of tradition. Anyway… that will make tomorrow night that much better" winked Sara.

"But I really want you… tonight will be special" said Kate nibbling Sara's ear.

"Stop it… no" laughed Sara.

"This isn't right" moped Kate.

"Build up your strength for tomorrow lover… I'll definitely want to make love to my wife until the sun comes up" whispered Sara and kissed Kate's neck.

"Don't do that… you're making me wet" whispered Kate with her arms around Sara's waist.

"Hey lovebirds! Get over here, Dr Morgan Senior is opening a 30 year old cognac and Bruce is doing his Stephen impersonation!" yelled Tegan.

"Don't have a hangover tomorrow" said Sara with a final kiss.

"I'll try… but since I can't have sex tonight I may have to kill time drinking" shrugged Kate.

Sara mock punched Kate's shoulder.

"And I haven't had a bachelorette party" said Kate.

"Neither have I… stop trolling" said Sara laughing. She took Kate's hand and pulled her towards the guests.

"Tee I'm sure you don't have to call Dad Dr Morgan Senior" laughed Kate.

"I can't help it. Anyway you still call Stephen Mr Quin sometimes" said Tegan.

"Really Tegan. Call me John" said Kate's dad. He was a young looking 60 year old. With his thick dark hair peppered with grey and blue-green eyes he strongly resembled Alex and Kate. John was really nice but not a big extrovert. His wife on the other hand, also Katherine, was the life of the party. John had a couple of glasses of wine in and had warmed up long ago to his new in-laws. Everybody was having a great time.

"Hope this leaves a bit of fuel in the tanks for tomorrow night" Kate said to Sara.

"Well if they go to bed early tomorrow we'll get to go to bed early" whispered Sara.

"In that case let's get them plastered tonight" laughed Kate.

"Naughty girl" winked Sara and squeezed Kate's bum.

"Cheers girls" said John all animated.

"Cheers... I just want to say, that I feel so blessed to have two amazing families come together. So incredibly lucky that you accept us... our love" said Sara becoming emotional. Kate nodded in agreement.

"We're just happy somebody finally wants to marry you" joked Tegan.

"We're so incredibly happy for you two. You both deserve this happiness" said Sonia.

"Thanks mom" mouthed Sara.

"Hear hear! To our babies' happiness" said Kate's mom.

"Alright, we love you! Let's save the rest of the speeches for tomorrow unless you just want to go ahead with the ceremony now" laughed Alex.

"Yeah yeah! So let me try this Cognac already" said Kate.

Sara smiled and looked at her beautiful, loud, happy new family and an incredible warmth spread over her. She never knew she could love or be loved like this. For a moment time stood still and everything was exactly as it should be.
