Chapter 245
Dr Saxon Sinclair walked out of the OR and washed her hands smiling. Her move to LA a couple of months ago was a good decision. She liked her new working environment and her colleagues. She got to hang out with Kate between cases like in the old days and her partner Jude was thriving.
The phone in her pocket vibrated and she answered quickly. "Hey babe, good timing I just finished up in surgery" she smiled.
"Jude just slow down... What do you mean? You know that for sure?" Sax suddenly felt lightheaded and her heart was pounding in her chest. She took off running still talking to Jude. She stopped in front of the Chief of Surgery's office and barged in without knocking.
"Dr Sinclair? Ever heard of knocking?" said Dr Weber looking slightly annoyed.
"It's Kate... Kate was... Dr Morgan..." She stumbled over her words out of breath.
"Saxon what's going on?" said Richard getting up, suddenly on edge.
"My partner is making a documentary on air traffic controllers. She called me to say that a private jet traveling from Toronto to LA has gone missing... Off radar, no contact. She knew Kate was traveling today so she called me. It was the only private flight from there to LA today... Kate was on that flight"
"Oh god... Are you sure?" Said Richard sitting down and swallowing hard.
"She's trying to find out more but she seems sure... They lost contact somewhere over Colorado. Search teams are already looking for them but they don't know where the plane is. Richard, I'm going to Colorado... When we know more I can go to the hospital they'll take them to. I can help"
"Sax they have surgeons in Colorado... They may not even be..."
"Don't say that!" Sax yelled. "We take care of our own. I'm going. Kate needs me. They all do"
"I know I won't be able to stop you. Go to Denver, I'll call and get the hospital jet available immediately. Let me know when you know more. I'll make some calls and hopefully get you to wherever they are with a chopper and get you in with privileges. Not promising anything, but I'll try"
"Thank you sir... I need to go"
"Go, I'll take care of things here. Call me when you land or have news. And Sax, don't step on any toes there"
"I'll try" Sax huffed and took off towards the locker rooms.
"Please be okay... Please be okay" she muttered as she jumped onto her Harley a few minutes later and took off in the direction of the airport.

"There's antibiotics in here Sar. Fuck… I wish I knew the dosage because I'm sure these would help" said Tegan.
Kate's BP slowly came up and held steady at about 70 over 50. She moaned and moved her head to the side before opening her eyes. The pain hit her again like a punch to the face.
"Hey there, welcome back" said Tegan with a smile.
Kate gagged, the tube down the back of her throat felt terrible.
"Hang on I'm going to remove the tube thing ok" said Tegan.
"Wha…. What happened?" moaned Kate.
"You went out on us there for a while, we got the IV in and your BP has come up a bit after a bit more epi. Your pulse is a bit lower and your sats are low but they're holding" said Tegan.
"Good" said Kate and weakly lifted her hand to make sure that Tegan did indeed get the IV in.
"Good job" she whispered.
"Thank you… shhhh…. Relax now, don't talk" said Tegan.
"Sara" Kate grunted.
"I'm here baby, right here" Sara said sounding drowsy.
"Tegan… check her pupils… and her BP" Kate mumbled doing her best to stay present.
Tegan did as instructed.
"Her pupils still look even and reactive Kate. Her BP's about 85 over 50"
"You need to start a line… on Sara" whispered Kate.
"I'm fine babe, the fluids are for you" said Sara sounding drowsy.
"No no… start the line Tegan… We need it… for meds too"
"Okay doc, whatever you say but just relax now, conserve your energy. Just stay still and focus on your breathing" said Tegan looking for another cannula.
"Tee… is there... something like… dopamine in there?"
"Um… yeah a little bit"
"Listen… write it down… if my top pressure… goes under 50… give me 1mg of… dopamine in the… IV port okay. Give Sara… if it goes under 60" Kate coughed again in pain.
"Roger that doc"
Kate was in excruciating pain and she moaned involuntarily.
"Give her some morphine Tegan. She's in so much pain" said Sara, she sounded in pain too.
"No give Sara more" Kate mumbled.
"I'm with Sara right now. I think this is one of those pain inhalers" said Tegan holding up a green stick with a mouthpiece.
"Yeah" Kate whispered.
"I'm giving this to Sara and I'm giving you 7.5 of morphine okay"
Kate didn't reply. She stared out in front of her, body shaking and screaming in pain. She knew that the morphine would possibly stop her tremors. She needed to stop shaking because she was afraid that she may be causing more internal harm. But Sara, Sara was in pain too. Agonizing pain.
"I'm okay… give Sara" Kate whispered, sweat beads formed on her upper lip and forehead.
"No, I'm sorry… I'm making an executive decision here" said Tegan and injected some morphine into Kate's IV. The bag was almost empty and Tegan prepared the next one.
"Sara" Kate whispered.
"Yes my angel"
"I… love you" Kate breathed.
"I love you too honey… so much"
"And Amelia" Kate breathed.
"Just hang on okay… rescue can't be far off now. Just hang on" whispered Sara
Kate felt the morphine wash over her, it dulled the pain and her senses but didn't numb it.
"Let's just get the mask back on you buddy" said Tegan and gently put the oxygen mask back on. She eyed the pulse ox meter that was dipping lower again.
"Start that IV… she needs fluids"
"God you're stubborn" Tegan swore under her breath but did as instructed.
Tegan struggled again to find a vein but after a few misses and some choice swearwords she got the cannula into Sara's hand and hung a bag of saline.
"Slow Tegan" said Sara.
"You okay there sis?" asked Tegan wiping away some damp strains of Sara's hair.
"I'm okay… I'm fine" said Sara weakly.
Tegan turned again to open Kate's air valve.
"Kate… Katy… you with me?" Tegan asked urgently when she saw Kate's eyes close slowly.
"I'm still here" Kate whispered.
"Good, good… try and stay awake okay. I know it's really hard but you need to fight now alright"
Kate nodded.
"Find my… coconut water Tee"
"You thirsty? Here have some water" said Tegan.
"No… no its for… you can put it... in the IV bag... when we run out... of saline"
"You serious?"
"Yeah… you can infuse it… it's like blood… forgot about that"
"Okay… you sure you're not just high on fucking morphine?"
"I'm sure" Kate nodded. She was as white as a sheet and still trembling like a leaf.
Tegan checked her pulse ox again. It was falling slowly but surely. Her pulse was about 135. She checked the gauze around the metal sticking out of her abdomen. It was soaked through. She checked her BP again. 58 over 42. Tegan was surprised that Kate was still conscious, albeit barely.
"I'm bleeding out… I'll try anything" mumbled Kate.
"Okay buddy… as soon as this one's through I'll hook you up with some coconut water"
"Okay… Sara… Sar" Kate said.
"Katy… I'm here" said Sara.
"How's... your head"
"Everything hurts like a motherfucker…. But I'm okay"
"I love you" Kate repeated. She was starting to look even less lucid.
Tegan jumped up in search of the coconut water. It took her a while to find Kate's bag but she found two bottles.
"I got your juice buddy. Hang in there okay"
Kate was too weak and in too much pain to even reply. She just nodded weakly.
"I'm feeling better baby… I think the fluids are helping" Sara lied. "You stay with me now okay. Everything's going to be just fine alright… you'll be fine. We're going to get out of here. Help's coming alright"
Kate just squeezed Sara's hand softly.

Lindsey shakily sat down on the couch after hanging up her phone. She tried to make sense of it all. The words swam in her head. Sonia breezed into the living room.
"They're down for their nap. You should get going or you'll be late for your shoot" said Sonia.
Lindsey started to hyperventilate. "Sonia... The plane... It's missing... The plane... Tegan..." she ranted.
"Lindsey calm down... Start again" said Sonia not understanding.
Lindsey started telling Sonia about the conversation she just had with Alex. Sax had called him and told him what she knew.
"No... No... Please God no" Sonia started sobbing.
"Alex and I are going to Colorado. Erin will stay with the kids"
"I'm coming... And don't even try and tell me otherwise" snapped Sonia and grabbed her bag ready to go.
Lindsey was shaking, it felt as if somebody was squeezing her heart. She felt light headed and out of breath. Tegan... The love of her life could be dead... Or dying... This wasn't happening.
