Chapter 246
Tegan double checked that the oxygen was on max. It was, but Kate's saturation was still falling slowly.
"She's not shaking anymore… I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing" said Tegan.
"Kate… stay awake okay, stay with me… please baby" Sara begged and moved closer to Kate.
Kate opened her eyes and tried to move the oxygen mask away.
"I'm not scared... of dying Sara… but I'm scared... of losing you… or you losing me... I don't want Amelia... to grow up... without me" whispered Kate weakly.
"She won't baby…. Hang tight you're going to be okay" said Sara.
"I'm bleeding out Sara… I'm dying… god knows... I don't want to... but I am… if I don't get to a hospital... soon I won't... make it"
"You'll make it!" Sara cried cradling Kate's face.
"We have to... be realistic... my love…. I'm not giving up... I swear but…" said Kate as tears flooded her already cloudy vision.
"Just keep fighting please, fight, fight, fight!" said Sara.
"I love you… I love you... so much. You make my life... worth living… you're everything" said Kate softly.
"I love you too…. I can't live without you Kate please, please"
"You're gonna be okay… you will" whispered Kate and closed her eyes.
"Keep breathing, put the mask back on" said Tegan looking worried. She knelt back next to Kate and opened the valve to let the air out.

Half an hour later.
"Tee… thanks for... taking care of me… you're doing a... great job" said Kate and smiled drowsily.
"I love you… hang in there, we're going to get you out of here alive" said Tegan and squeezed Kate's hand.
"Love you... too bud" said Kate. Her body started shaking again.
Sara curled her upper body around Kate's head. She groaned in pain but Tegan helped her put her leg on a pillow.
Kate was drenched in sweat from pain. Without asking Tegan injected more morphine into Kate's IV and then into Sara's. The morphine was running out pretty fast.
"Sar… Sara. When the morphine runs out I'm going to give you some of these codene tablets so we can keep the IV meds for Kate. You okay with that?" asked Tegan.
"Of course, I'm fine just help Kate" said Sara, her hand softly on Kate's cheek. Kate was out cold again and Tegan watched the pulseox meter on her finger like a hawk. She pressed the BP button again.
"Sara her BP is falling. I'm giving her some more dopamine"
"Yes, do it" said Sara.
A couple of minutes later Kate's BP went up a bit. She groaned as she came to. "Sara… are you... okay?"
"I'm fine baby just relax… take it easy"
"How's your leg?"
"It's okay… it hurts but its okay" Sara said.
"Tegan… check her BP... and give her some... more morphine please"
"Kate we're… we're out of morphine"
"Shit… Um… Uh" Kate mumbled.
"I'll give her some of these tablets okay… it'll be okay"
"Okay" said Kate now looking almost translucent.
"I'm going to cut open the IV bag now so I can get the coconut water in okay"
"Huh.. uhhh" Kate grumbled. Her brain was quite obviously not getting the blood flow it needed.
Tegan cut open the empty IV bag at the top and poured in the bottle of coconut water. She struggled but managed to tape the top closed again.
"Here goes nothing" she said. Kate still seemed out of it.
A few minutes later Tegan reluctantly made her way to the cockpit again. She tried to find some kind of communication device. She picked up the radio and tried her best to get it going. She slapped it a few times before speaking into it. "Hello… can anybody hear me… help…. We need help urgently. Mayday mayday…. If you can hear us… we've crashed and we need medical help urgently. I have two severely injured passengers and three deceased crew members. We need help… please…. Please help us" she begged but the radio remained silent in her hands. "Fuck!" she cursed out loud before returning to her severely injured sister and friend.
Another hour passed without much being said. Sara clutched Kate's hand tight, shaking violently from the cold and the trauma.
"Sara are you with me" asked Tegan.
"Yeah… I'm awake"
"I have to go outside… see if there's any way out of here. I need to see if I can get reception on the phones okay"
"No don't go!" said Sara fast.
"I have to Sar. I'll be back really soon. You have the last bit of epi here and there's a bit of dopamine left. Keep an eye on her breathing, open the valve every 3-5 minutes okay. Sara are you listening?"
"Yeah… I'm listening"
"Good… I won't go far I promise. I just need to see what's going on here. Before we lose the light okay"
"Okay… Tegan please come back" said Sara desperately.
"I will, I promise…. Hang tight okay. Don't fall asleep Sara, you're her life line now"
"I won't… go"
Sara now had a blue tint around her lips.
Tegan climbed the stairs down to the ground carefully, things didn't feel very stable. She surveyed the scene again. They were at the edge of a forrest it seemed. The plane was in some sort of open area. She looked up at the sky. Grey, low hanging clouds made the eerie silence even more ominous. She started scanning the area, walking in a circle around the plane, she made sure she could still see the plane at all times. The three cellphones in her pockets all had no signal.
When she had finished about three quarters of the circle she saw a hill rise in the distance when the clouds broke for a few minutes. Tegan started running back to the plane and climbed the steps as fast as she could.
"Sara… Sara I saw a hill not too far away. I'm going up there to see if I can get cellphone reception. Listen to me now Sara…. You keep Kate alive okay… You keep her alive"
"No Tegan I can't, don't go" Sara cried.
"You can… you can" Tegan emptied another bottle of coconut water into Kate's IV bag. "Sara…. Keep her airway open okay… use the epi as a last resort"
"Tegan please don't go" Sara cried desperately and started wheezing.
"Here, take a puff from the inhaler… there we go deep breaths" said Tegan assisting Sara.
"Sara listen to me" said Tegan when Sara was breathing better.
"I have to go… it's our only chance… they obviously don't know we're missing or they don't know where to find us. Kate's getting worse by the minute… I have to go Sara, I have to try. I promise I'll be back really soon" said Tegan.
"Okay… I don't want her to die Tegan… please don't let her die" Sara sobbed.
"I'm going to find help… just stay positive. I'm leaving the inhaler with you"
"No you need that" said Sara fast.
"I have another one" Tegan lied. She knew full well that the other inhaler in her backpack was almost empty. She hoped to god that there was a few more puffs left in there"
"Here's some water… stay hydrated okay" said Tegan.
"Okay… Tegan… be careful please"
"I will. I love you"
"Love you too"
"See you soon okay"
Sara just nodded. She hated the fact that Tegan was leaving but she knew they desperately needed medical attention. Kate especially, she was now unconscious, struggling to breathe and white as a sheet. Sara knew that she must be bleeding internally, the question was how much and whether she would be able to hold on a bit longer.
A/N: let's hope Kate hangs on and Tegan finds help. Please send feedback.
