"Why are you here?"
Temari started down at her plate, she knew why she was here and she knew she needed to talk about it but she didn't know if Shikamaru was willing to listen. She left something poke her shoulder and turned to find Shikamaru with his hand up ready to poke her again, he looked at her with an expression that said "talk to me" and well how could she resist that.
"I had a fight with my brothers... and I got a few concerning letters. I just... I needed to get away," Temari was staring at her plate again, Shikamaru apparently hadn't thought that was enough and poked her again, Temari took a deep break and put her plate back on the table and turned to face Shikamaru.
"Kankuro just said some things that he really shouldn't have, some really mean and unnecessary things and while Gaara didn't agree with him and he did try to stop us from fighting, he didn't defend me either," Shikamaru moved closer to Temari just an inch and looked at her with concern.
"I got a letter, a marriage proposal from a young lord in the land of wind, I told my brothers about it and that I was going to refuse and Kankuro thought it was a bad idea and that I should accept the offer since there's no way in hell I'd ever get another one from anyone else and... he was just..." Temari stopped herself and tried to calm her breathing,
"I was thinking of maybe coming to visit Ino or something since my brother's been being such a jerk for the past week I needed to get away from him but then I got a letter from Ino... a letter telling me some concerning things... about you."
Temari kept her head down but looked up at Shikamaru through her bangs, she watched as a looked of confusion crossed his face before it turned into realisation.
"Should've known," he sighed.
"Don't be angry at her she's just worried about you. She said you haven't been eating much and that you haven't been sleeping either. Apparently you've been in a crappy mood and been a kinda rude to people, you've been skipping meals with your team and other friends, been ignoring them when they speak to you and according to Ino you've been doing nothing but working for months and you won't listen to her and won't let her help you," Temari still wasn't looking at him, she wasn't sure how he'd react to this, maybe she'd crossed a like by coming here, maybe Ino had crossed a line by sending that letter and Temari had just outed her for it.
"I just... want you, to be okay."
Shikamaru didn't have the words, not because he couldn't think of any words or that he was speechless no nothing like that, he was just to tired to reply. Temari cringed slightly before rising off the couch.
"I can leave if you don't want me here, I don't want to intrude or make you uncomfortable. I can go stay with Ino, I'll still be here for a few days though I mean I didn't just come here for you I came here to get away from my brother, not that you don't matter, I mean I did come here for you just not just for you, you know? Whatamisaying." Temari finally managed to stop her rambling as she backed into the kitchen bench with an "ouch" causing Shikamaru to quickly stand up and instinctively rush to her, he put his hands on each of her arms and started unconsciously rubbing his thumbs on her arms as he examined her for injuries, finding nothing of course. Once he was satisfied he looked at her face, Temari was avoiding his eyes, hiding behind her hair, suddenly all to aware she wasn't wearing pants.
"Don't leave, please," he said softly, Temari finally looked up at him, "what?" She asked.
"Stay here... with me," Shikamaru mumbled. Temari stepped closer looking up at him questioningly.
"Of course I want you to stay," he said a little louder, she felt his body weaken as he let himself drop the facade. "Please stay. Don't leave."
"Okay, I won't." She said, Shikamaru who was still holding her arms started shaking, she could feel it as his entire body shock.
"I'm not going anywhere," Temari said as she stepped even closer and wrapped her arms around his neck, she squeezed him gently as he did the same, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close as if she'd fall away if he let go.
"I'm here."
