Chapter 250

Lindsey, Sonia and Alex was on a commercial flight on the way to Denver. It was the fastest they could find.

"Can I offer you something to eat or drink Ma'am" said a flight attendant to Lindsey where she was sitting with her face in her hands.

Lindsey didn't look up, didn't move. Sonia looked at the girl and shook her head.

"I can't take this… I think I'm having a panic attack" said Lindsey, she started sobbing again.

"They'll be okay… keep believing" said Alex looking petrified himself.

The tears on Tegan's face felt almost frozen. An icy rain started falling hard. Tegan tucked the phone under her belly and closed her eyes. She felt at peace, as if she was drifting away slowly. She suddenly gasped and opened her eyes.

"No Tegan… fight… don't make it easy, they need you. Fight" she told herself. She moved her injured arm so the pain could keep her awake.

"Fuck me" she said with gritted teeth. She has never been colder. Every part of her body felt frozen.

It was dark now. The rain stopped almost as suddenly as it began.

"Fuck you rain… just enough to get me drenched" Tegan thought to herself.

"Tegan! Call out! Tegan!" she heard calls in the distance.

"Help" she tried to yell but it came out as a whimper.

"Help" she tried again but it was much softer than even her normal speaking voice.

The voices were moving away from her.

"No come back" she cried.

"Think Tegan… think"

Tegan pulled out the other phone. It took a while since moving really hurt. It was Sara's phone. She opened it easily using their birthday as the pin code. Her hands weren't functioning that well anymore, she could hardly feel her fingers. The phone wasn't very responsive to Tegan's cold fingers. Tegan put her index finger in her mouth and sucked hard for a few seconds. She tried again. It worked. She opened Sara's playlists and opened Rock. She started playing a random song as loudly as possible. Her head was spinning and her vision cloudy. She opened her own phone and turned on the flashlight app, she set it to flash and put it next to Sara's. The lay on the cold, hard ground listening to a song she didn't know. "I'm dying… to a song I fucking hate" Tegan thought. How cruel. Slowly, her hearing faded and her eyes stayed closed after blinking… she tried to open them but couldn't so she gave in, to the pain, the cold, the darkness surrounding her.

"ETA two minutes" said the pilot of the chopper into his headset.

For Sara, the trip seemed to last forever. Before Kate was in the chopper she gave them as much info as she could about her and Tegan's medical interventions. She tried to ask questions but she had headphones over her ears and she couldn't move her head. Every now and then somebody would appear in her field of vision and check her pupils. Her head was throbbing, her vision blurry and her stomach in an uproar.

"Kate" she whispered, tears rolling down her face. The nice female medic held two thumbs up and smiled. She patted Sara on the shoulder.

For an instant Sara was glad that she didn't have to see or hear the fight that was going on for her wife's life.

Sara felt the helicopter touch down. There was a lot of commotion around Kate. A medic took the headphones off.

"We're here Sara. They're getting Kate out first and then we'll get you into the ER. Hang in there"

"Kate… is she okay?"

"She's hanging in there… she's in good hands okay"

The doors slid open and an icy wind blew over Sara that made her breath hitch.

"Talk to me" somebody shouted. For a minute Sara thought she heard Sax's distinctive voice but she knew it couldn't be. She prayed that whoever it was, they were as brilliant as Sax.

The team was in constant communication with the hospital en-route and Sax had most of the facts. She looked over at the stretcher inside of helicopter. Her heart fell to her stomach.

"Kate… shit" she mumbled, her mouth suddenly dry.

"I don't think there's time for a CT. We need to get her into surgery immediately. She's probably too unstable for it but we don't have a choice" said the trauma doc climbing out of the helicopter.

"Vitals?" asked Sax as Kate was carefully lifted out of the chopper.

"BP 50 over 40 after vasopressors, three units of blood and three units of saline. Pulse is thready at 120"

"What have you gotten yourself into Morgan?" Sax mumbled as she pushed the gurney towards the elevator.

"According to the wife she was in and out of consciousness. They somehow managed to put a needle crich into the chest and stated a line. Run in two bags of saline on scene and two of coconut water"

"Coconut water?"

"Yup…"

"Nice one Dr Morgan" Sax snorted.

"Apparently they managed her pressure with some Epi and dopamine. She went into respiratory arrest about 5 to 10 minutes before we got there. Sara gave her mouth to mouth"

"Okay lets move she's circling the drain" said somebody as the elevator doors to the ER opened.

"Kate! Kate!" Sara tried to yell but it came out in a whimper.

"They've got her Sara. They're taking care of her" said the medic as they pushed Sara into the hospital.

"Captain, it's starting to get dangerous out there. The rain has washed away her scent, the dogs are clueless" said one of the search and rescue team members.

"Keep going, we're not leaving without her. Temperatures are dropping fast and with the rain she will be hypothermic by now" said the captain.

"Roger that sir. Med-evac is on it's way back in and we have medics on standby in the tent"

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the ravine, Tegan wasn't shaking anymore, she lay unconscious in the dark, cell phone blaring as loudly as a phone could, light flashing.
