Chapter 258
"Mrs Clement. We've settled Sara in the TICU, you can see her now" said a junior resident.
"Thank you! Do you want to come?" she asked Alex and Lindsey.
"Yes, I just don't want to miss an update" said Lindsey.
"I'll make hundred percent sure they know where to find you" said the resident.
The resident led them to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit. Shaped in a U with three beds on each side and a nurses station in the middle the unit looked cold, sterile and intimidating. Glass separated the three groups of beds. The visitors had to scrub their hands and put gowns over their clothes and shoes.
Sonia felt a wave of dizziness as she stood in the doorway. Sara was lying on the middle bed, the two beds next to her were empty.
"You okay Sonia?" asked Alex with his arm around her middle.
"Yeah, kind of" said Sonia and walked to Sara.
Sara was propped up on some pillows. IV's in her hands, monitors around her bed. She looked pale and had a bandage around her head and a ventilator tube down her throat. The cuts on her cheek and nose had been sutured closed. Her entire leg was splinted and bandaged and propped up on a pillow. The hard cast would have to wait for some of the swelling to go down.
"Oh my god… Sara sweetie pie… my angel" said Sonia through her tears and softly touched Sara's hand, scared to do more damage.
Lindsey fought back a sob standing at the foot of the bed.
"I'm here Sara… Mommy's here okay. You're going to be fine" said Sonia, unable to stop her sobs.
They sat next to Sara's bed in silence for a few minutes.
Craig entered the room.
"Can we talk outside please?" he said softly.
Everybody followed him out to the nurses' station on the other side of the glass.
"I just wanted to update you. Tegan's temperature is going up, slowly but it's going up. We've removed some fluid off her lungs and her oxygen saturation levels are improving. Still not great but its okay under the circumstances. There's still some cardiac irregularity but we're managing that as well as we can. She's hanging in there. She's fighting very hard" said Craig.
"When can we see her?" asked Lindsey.
"We're still stabilising her. I can get you in one by one for a couple of minutes each but there's a large team working on her right now"
"We don't want to be in the way…. We just want her to know we're here"
"She's in a coma at the moment ma'am but I understand" Craig smiled.
"You go first Lindsey… I'll stay with Sara until you're back" said Sonia.

Craig led Lindsey to Tegan's bed. Lindsey immediately burst into tears when she saw Tegan. Her face was bruised and red from frostbite.
"I love you Tegan. I'm here… I'm right here baby. I love you… Please fight. Fight Tegan… please baby just fight. You can do this… you can. You're so strong and brave. I'm here okay… I love you" said Lindsey through her tears.
"Heart rate's a bit more stable and we're up another degree in temp" said somebody.
"That's it baby. You're doing it… You're going to be fine" said Lindsey into Tegan's ear.
Craig put his stethoscope under the bear hugger and listened to Tegan's chest again.
"I need labs please, let's see what her Chem balance is doing"
"They've got you Tee… you've got some great Doctors fighting for you here" smiled Lindsey as she wiped her tears.
"Lindsey, I'm sorry but you need to go now. We have some tests to run" said Craig.
"Okay… TeeTee. I have to go outside now but I'm not far baby. I'm right outside okay... You and me babe" said Lindsey and touched Tegan's face, careful not to move the ventilator tube.
"Save her… please! Please just help her" Lindsey sobbed.
"We're doing everything we can Lindsey" said Craig.

Half an hour later Kate was wheeled into the Trauma Intensive Care Unit by a large team pushing the bed and a plethora of machines.
"Katy… how's she doing?" asked Alex jumping up.
"She's as stable as we can hope for right now Alex" said Sax and supervised as the team settled Kate next to Sara.
"Hey sis. It's Alex. You're going to be okay, I love you. Mom and Dad are on the way. Sara's okay, she's right here next to you. You hang in there and fight now okay" said Alex.
Kate looked terrible, she was as white as a sheet with even more monitors than Sara. She had a large amount of tubes and drains snaking in and out of her.
Sonia looked as if she was about to go down. She sat down on a chair between Kate and Sara's beds. She put her head in her shaking hand.
"Please God… please… please let them be okay" she whispered.
