Chapter 8: A Different Way
Thomas pulls up the car to the building where the pet show would be held at. "Are you sure about this Dusty?" Kodi asked looked at looking at his mate. "Yeah, I'm sure," Dusty said as she nuzzled her mate. "Berry are you ready?" Thomas asked looking in the back seat. Berry was sleeping with drool in his mouth. "Berry!" Thomas and Kodi shouted to the raccoon.
"Huh? What? I'm awake!" Berry said jumping up from his spot. "Good, we need to focus," Thomas said adjusting his bow tie to his suit. "Okay, let's go," Thomas said as he opened the car door. Kodi, Dusty, and Berry stepped out of the car and headed towards the back door of the building.
Once they were inside they went to check-in.
"Name and pet's name?" The man at the desk asked.
"Thomas and Dusty," Thomas replied
"Thomas...Dusty..." the man muttered to himself and he looked through the list
"Ah there we are, just proceed down to that hallway and the tenth room on the left, the rest the show dogs will be in there." The man said.
"Thank you," Thomas said before he and the rest of the others went down the hallway.
Once they were in the room Kodi was helping Dusty get ready for the show while Kodi went over the plan with them.
"Alright guys here's the plan, Kodi, Berry, you two and I will go steal the diamond when the show begins, once we steal the diamond we'll head for the car and high tail it out here," Thomas explained.
"What about Dusty?" Kodi asked a little concerned.
"Dusty will participate in the dog show after we steal the diamond Kodi, you'll go get her and meet us back at the car," Thomas replied.
Kodi wanted to stay with Dusty but they had a job to do.
Kodi looked at his mate.
"Kodi..." Dusty began.
"I know it's dangerous Dusty, but Alan's fate is in our hands," Kodi said.
Dusty sighed, before nuzzling Kodi.
"Okay, just...just come back for me okay," Dusty said.
"I promise, I'll be back to get you before the show's over," Kodi said.
"Just be careful, I love you," Dusty said.
"I love you too," Kodi said.
Kodi then kissed Dusty and walked up to Thomas and Berry.
"Come on, let's go get that diamond before the show ends!" Berry said.
Little did they know, that they were being watched by a pair of eyes.
The show started with a few dogs going out to the runway. It would be a few more dogs before Dusty would go on the runway. "Alright let's go," Thomas said to Berry and Kodi as the snuck away from everyone. The trio went under the stage where the diamond was being held. "They just had to hold the diamond down here huh?" Berry said while crawling behind Kodi. "Well, there going to push the diamond up from the ground while the dogs are doing the show and then push it back down," Thomas explained. "But we're going to steal it before it goes up," Kodi added.
"Just wish there a better view! Kodi move up!" Berry shouted from behind Kodi. "Hey, guys be quiet!" Thomas whispered. "Sorry, I'm just getting uncomfortable back here!" Berry whispers back. "There it is!" Thomas said as he crawled forward seeing the diamond in a case.
Thomas carefully opened the case making sure not to trip the alarm system and grabbed the diamond.
"Okay, I got it, now..." Thomas began to say when someone hit him on the head from behind sending him falling to the ground and the diamond rolling out of his hand.
"THOMAS!" Kodi cried.
Thomas groaned in pain slowly turned around to come face to face with not a security guard but a teenaged boy presumably 18 or 19 years old, he had thick brown hair, he was wearing a dark blue hoodie, black shoes, and khaki pants, and was pointing an SD9 pistol at Thomas.
"Just where do you think you're going with that?" The teen asked.
Thomas immediately kicked the teen in the stomach as hard as humanly possible before quickly getting back on his feet and punched the teen in the face knocking the gun out of his hand.
The teen quickly recovered and punched Thomas back in the face.
Thomas and the teen rolled around the ground while Berry and Kodi watched. "Come on Thomas! You can do it!" Berry cheered. The teen grabbed Thomas by his neck and choked him holding him against the wall. "Ow," Berry said before jumping into the fight. Berry jumped on the teen's shoulders and started pulling his hair. "Ah!" The teens cried out before letting go of Thomas.
"Go! get out of here!" Berry shouted trying to hold on to the teen. Thomas got himself together and looked for the Diamond. "I got it!" Kodi called out as he grabbed the diamond with his mouth. "Get off of me!" The teen shouted as he grabbed Berry from his back and threw him at Kodi. Berry crashed into Kodi making him drop the diamond. The diamond then rolled over into the middle of the room where both the teen and Thomas could see it. "It's mine!" Thomas shouted as he jumped forward for the diamond.
The teen kicked the diamond away and swiftly grabbed his weapon and pointed it at Thomas.
"I can't let you have it!" He said.
Then all of a sudden Kodi lunged and bit the teen in the leg causing him to scream in agony and unintentionally fire his weapon.
The alarm goes off alerting the guards to come and get the diamond. "Shit!" Both Thomas and the teen say as the guards come to grab the diamond. "What are you doing here?!" One of the guards shouted while pointing at the two teens and Kodi and Berry. "Take him away boys!" The teen shouted as he pushes Thomas into the guards. "Hey!" Thomas shouted as he was grabbed by the guards. Teens laugh before grabbing the diamond and start shooting in the air to get away from the guards.
"Hold it right there kid, what you were you doing in there?" The security guard asked.
"Um, doing your job." The teen snarled.
"I need a more specific answer." The security officer snapped.
"Then here, here's a better answer," the teen said as he pushed Thomas towards the security officer. "Hey!" Thomas shouted as he landed into the security guards' arms. The guard grabs Thomas as the teen tries to get away but Kodi and Berry wouldn't let him.
"Get out of my way!" The teen snarled.
Kodi and Berry didn't comply and stood their ground.
"Get out of my way or I'll make you sorry!" The teen said.
Still, Kodi and Berry didn't comply.
"Okay that's it you two asked..." the teen began to say but was cut off when he heard the sound of the security guard being punched in the face and falling to the ground.
The teen spun around and his face met Thomas's fist, he then fell to the floor out cold
"Who is this guy?" Berry asked while getting onto Thomas's shoulder as the four looked at the unconscious teen. "I don't know, but let's get out of here before he wakes up," Thomas said as he grabbed the diamond. "Come on, we need to get Dusty," Kodi said worried for his mate. Just then the lights went out and then came back on. The teen was then gone from his spot.
Thomas, Kodi, and Berry reached the room where they had left Dusty, but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Dusty?" Kodi asked.
"KODI!" A familiar female-voiced screamed.
"Dusty!" Kodi cried as he ran out of the room.
"Kodi wait!" Thomas said.
When they turned the corner there was the teen and he was holding Dusty with a pistol pointed to her head.
"Name's Drew, Drew Thibodaux, and I will not rest until your boss Kidman is dead." The teen said.
"Now if you want your doggie friend back you're going to hand me that diamond or else we'll we all know what happens to doggo here," Drew said.
Thomas knew that handing the diamond over to Drew would save Dusty but it would also mean his father's life.
"I'm sorry but I-I can't," Thomas said.
Drew sighed sadly.
"Very well you made your choice," Drew said as he cocked the pistol.
"Kodi...help me." Dusty squeaked.
"NO, DUSTY!" Kodi screamed horrified.
Dusty closed her eyes and waited for the bullet that would end her life.

Nothing.
"Shit, out of bullets," Drew said as he threw the gun down and took off with Dusty outside. Kodi growled before looking at Thomas. "Why would you do that Thomas!" Kodi shouted before taking off after Drew and Dusty. "Not cool man," Berry said as he jumped off Thomas's shoulder and went after Kodi. Thomas couldn't believe it himself, he chose his dad over Dusty's life. "I'm sorry Kodi," Thomas said to himself as he went after his friends.
Kodi, Berry, and Thomas chased Drew outside to the parking lot.
When they got to there Drew was nowhere in sight
"Where did he go?!" Kodi asked panicking
"I don't know but he couldn't have..." Thomas was cut off short by the sound of a muscle car revving its engine.
And not long after that, a black 2005 Ford Mustang GT sped past them.
"THERE HE GOES!" Berry cried.
"Quick to the Skyline!" Thomas exclaimed.
The three of them ran over to Thomas's Skyline and then chased after Drew and Dusty. "I shouldn't have let you talk me into having her on this mission," Kodi growled at himself as they were on a high-speed chase. "I know and I'm sorry," Thomas said passing some cars while trying to get near Drew's mustang.
"I'm gonna ram him!" Thomas said
Thomas pulled to the left side of Drew's Mustang and slammed into it causing to shift, but wasn't enough to spin him out as Thomas had hoped.
"AGH! So he wants to trade paint huh?" Drew said to himself.
Drew slammed his Mustang to the side of Thomas's Skyline.
"ARGH! Oh that's it he's really asked for it!" Thomas snarled.
Thomas tried to ram Drew's Mustang again but Drew knew what he was going to do and was able to avoid Thomas's slam.
"Shit, he's too good!" Thomas said.
"What did he do to that Mustang, why is it so fast?!" Berry asked.
"I don't know but I don't know if we'll catch him in the Skyline!" Thomas replied.
Unbeknownst to both Drew and Thomas they sped past police modified C6 Corvette.
"All units, this Sgt. Cross I'm in pursuit of a black Ford Mustang, and a blue Nissan Skyline GTR R34." The cop said through the radio.
"There was a different way of doing this Thomas!" Kodi shouted. "I know that! And I'm sorry!" Thomas shouted back as Drew started to pull away. The C6 Corvette speeds ahead now head to head with Thomas. "Shit," Thomas said trying to get away from the cop. "He's not even trying to get the other guy!" Berry pointed out.
"Attention driver, this is Sergeant Cross of New York City Police, pull over and step out of the vehicle with your hands up," Cross said through the megaphone.
Thomas didn't comply he kept his focus on Drew's Mustang, Thomas shifted his car and tried to outrun Cross's Corvette but Cross's C6 was too fast.
"You cannot outrun me, pull over now or I'll make you pull over!" Cross said through his megaphone.
Thomas still didn't comply.
"That's it you leave me no choice!" Cross shouted.
Cross slammed his C6 into Thomas's Skyline, causing it to spin out of control.
Thomas screamed and slammed on the breaks and miraculously avoided crashing.
Cross pulled his Corvette to the side of the Skyline, he got out and walked up to Thomas's car with his gun drawn.
"Alright kid, step out the car with your hands behind your head!" Cross shouted
"Officer you don't understand, that guy in the Mustang is getting away with our friend!" Thomas said.
Cross angrily opened Thomas's driver door.
"I don't give a damn!" He snarled as he pulled Thomas out of his car and handcuffed him.
Drew got away with Dusty in the car. Thomas watches as the mustang drives off in the distance. Cross picks up Thomas from the ground and throws him in a police cruiser. Kodi and berry were also thrown into the back with Thomas. A tow truck comes along and takes the skyline to the impound. Thomas sighs as he sits back in his seat. About an hour later Thomas and his friends were thrown into a cell together. Thomas sits down on a bench while Kodi snarls while pacing back and forth. "Kodi please talk to me," Thomas said while watching Kodi. Kodi glairs at Thomas and starts to growl "I trusted you! Dusty Trusted you! How could you do this to her!" Kodi barked with his ears back. "I told I was sorry I froze up," Thomas said looking at his dog. Kodi growled.
"Froze up?!" Kodi barked again. "I-I-I know I screwed up Kodi and I'm sorry," Thomas said with his head down. "Can't a guy get a phone call around here?!" Berry shouted while grabbing onto the cell bars. "Not now Berry!" Thomas and Kodi both said at the same time. Thomas and Kodi looked at each other before speaking again. "I will get her back Kodi I promise," Thomas said still looking at Kodi. Kodi shook his head and looked down. "No Thomas, I can't trust you to do that," Kodi said before looking away from Thomas. "Kodi…" Thomas started to say before an officer walked up to the cell. "Come on kid, Cross wants to see you," the officer said as he opened the cell. Thomas sighed before standing up and walking out of the cell. Thomas looked at Kodi one last time while Kodi didn't look at him Thomas went on his way to see Cross.
